Same here, to bad that download button does not work :p:. I'll download it tomorrow, it's ~2:20 AM over here and time to go to bed now.
Thanks for your help, the link that you gave me was all I needed apparently. I did press your link directly and then got a 64-bit key, although I needed a 32-bit key. Oh well, now I got both a 32-bit key and 64-bit key :p: and I will be testing both versions in the end.

I see the ati drivers. How about sound and raid controllers wifi etc, are you able to use previous xp or vista drivers for these?
I just reinstalled vista last night on my main rig. I wish I knew about this sooner. can't get a key. Maybe I'll plug in an extra drive and play with it for 30 days.
Post some screens guys if you have any good shots to share. I'd like to know if anyone is successfully gaming on this os.
I used ATI Vista drivers and Creative X-Fi Vista drivers. Both worked just fine.
I would avoid the Win7 beta driver from ATI for now, since they introduce beta support for WDDM v1.1.
Unless there is a real benefit for having that right now, i would stick with the Vista ones.
About gaming successfully on Win7, I had no problems or FPS issues on Team Fortress 2 or Bioshock using Vista 32 bit Catalyst 8.12.
For my X-Fi I had to run the installer with Vista SP1 compatibility enabled, else it would kick me out telling me to run it on XP or Vista.
Most chipset drivers are bundled with Windows, and I'm not using RAID.
Thanks Pontos. Sounds good. All DOne! started 64bit Dl at 845pm its now 915pm
May someone please do an MD5 on each (x86 & x64)?

Damn. You'd think the servers would be slow as hell right now, but I'm downloading at 500KB/s.
Only 500 KB/s? I was hitting 2.5MB/s, average 1.3 though. :D
Yah, but my connection is weak. I have the top-tier connection in the Yukon, which is only 5Mbps/512Kbps advertised. Oh yah, with a 20GB/month cap. :(
not too bad was downloading @ 800kbs
I just got my x86 key :D (now I have both).
The address for the x86 one is https://www.microsoft.com/betaexperi...s/default.aspx, and you must log in on Technet with your .NET Passport account before trying to access it (else it will redirect you to Windows 7 homepage).
Good luck
I have 4 x64 keys, that will work on x86 installs too.
I can't seem to be able to download the ISO directly from Microsoft, so now I'm downloading it with bittorrent. After all this hassle I actually have more than one key :D. So maybe I may be installing it on more than one PC over here. I won't be giving it away to anyone just yet though, not until you can't get any new keys anymore.
EDIT: @Warboy: you mean to say that all keys work for both the 64-bit as well as the 32-bit version? I didn't know that, also nice to know BTW.
So not the other way around, as in a key for the 32-bit version will not work for 64-bit? Or was that a typo?
Who wants a Windows 7 Beta Key? :D
FOUND: Working links for keys!

Does anyone know of any possible way to actually GET a key? I've never had trouble like this before on any MS public beta
thanks ColonelCain, you rule!
there seems to be only 5 keys of each type (32/64 bit). After clicking the like about 20 times for each link, it seems it recycles 5 different keys for each.
edit: i can confirm that 64bit keys work on 32. I just tried a 64bit key on my 32bit windows 7 and it worked fine :)
If you're really having that much trouble, then just wait until the beta actually goes live. It was delayed due to the trouble they were having.
I've heard similar reports on other sites, though I don't remember the exact number.
I've installed the 64 beta without any key and it seems to work fine... not sure if I need it though no way I can get one anyway :p
Time for some benchies :)
You can use it for 30 days without a key, then do the rearm thing to reset the counter. Or you can just click the link to get a key and forget about it :P
For me, it's worthwhile to get a key, as I been using the alphas and beta's as my main opsys on my laptop for a while now. Since my laptop is a lot more speedier then it was with vista on it.
Its live again:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/dd353205.aspx
Their is something called "2008 server converter" on TPB that has a button called REARM.
I tried that on Windows 7 and it does reset the timer on it so it gets back to 30 days again.
all the keys are universal now, its up all over the net

those are all the ones i got refreshing. not sure how people are getting a 6th key... i just tried like a million times.. dunno why i am wasting time doing it though lol
I simply can't get the ISO through Microsofts own site. For some reason it just stops downloading after a while. Does anyone else have the same problem? I'm trying to get it through a torrent now, but that is not nearly as fast.
I was wrong, i got 6 x64 keys and 5 x86, the same as Warboy.
I'm not posting the sixth one in here because The Coolest also got a key not on this list, and different as the one I have as well.
Maybe there is 1 unique key per betatester, who knows...
X64 mirrors http://www.findfiles.com/list.php?st...iso&db=Mirrors
X86 mirrors http://www.findfiles.com/list.php?st...iso&db=Mirrors
Try using a download manager like getright to resume the download if it suddenly stops, and also to get it from two or more different sources at the same time.
That's a good point. I didn't even realize we needed a key. I thought we just had to download the ISO, burn it to a CD, boot from the CD, and have at 'er.
EDIT: Just pulled a key off MSN no problem.
People that have been busy refreshing the pages last night and this morning got different keys than these sets. I used one from this list to activate my copy of Windows 7 7000 I downloaded almost 2 weeks ago and it activated just fine. Dunno what happened at MS and why they they spent almost a whole day distributing individual keys and then switching to just these 2 sets of keys.
i already had the english 32bit but wanted to try the german 64bit - it's impossible to get it. you english folks have these versions spread over the torrents already, but the german one with 64bit is nowhere to be found :/
unfortunately, downloads from these links always stopped to work after a few minutes/hours.
however, downloading from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/ works again now. using the akamai download manager i'm downloading with fullspeed
besides, i've been hinted to some other sources where the german versions can be downloaded as well. even though it took longer, it's now also available at the usual suspects hehe
Sweet, I'm using it right now and I'm certainly pleased. Running it on my laptop at the moment and pretty much everything seems to be working just fine. I've had no problems whatsoever and Windows update found all necessary drivers by itself. Boot up performance is not such a major improvement over Vista for me though, maybe my expectations were a bit to high on that part or my system is not running optimal. I'll see what boot up speed will be like on my desktop system sometime in the future, I've got no time for that right now (Test period, so I've got to study).
Cya all guys and goodnight (or whatever it is in your timezone).
All is working fine so far. Even the drivers that weren't quite working, are no working. That means that my LAN and audio are functional! I'm wondering if vLite will accept Win7 Beta1--I'd like to try this on my EeePC 900 12G.
Apparently the MSDN one is a different size to the others. Who got it from MSDN and what size was the ISO?
3,387,009,024 bytes. That's directly from Microsoft.com.
I tried installing drivers for my wireless NIC card, but my Windows 7 install already has indexing errors and it won't let me install them. Time to reinstall the entire OS. Dammit.
By the way, how successful have people been installing x86 software/drivers?
I've been fine with installing. Chipset and graphics drivers are available through Windows Update or built in. The rest, just grab the Vista x__ version of it and install in compatibility mode. I've done that twice now; the first time for my sound drivers and the second time for my LAN drivers.
What's with the Program Files (x86) folder then? That's where it tried installing the XP software for my wireless NIC card. Is that not for 32-bit application compatibility, as the folder would suggest?
Yes it's designed for the 32 bit applications, which is the vast majority.
Microsoft wanted to keep the 32 and 64 bit applications in a different folder, for whatever reason. But AFAIK, it makes no difference if you put a 64bit program in the 32bit folder or the reverse. One reason is does exist could be if there are two versions of the same program, one 32 the other 64bit.
as anyone tried this on virtual box yet.
Nope, the driver is x86. I never used Vista, so I'm new to all of this. Looks like an x64 driver is important, though. Unfortunately, Linksys never released an x64 driver for this wireless card. :shakes:
EDIT: So it looks like Linksys did manage to get a rare Vista driver out for my card; however, it is 32-bit. Does that sound right?
yes most companies make 32 bit stuff and never make 64 bit which I find very stupid. You will find out most stuff goes into the 32 bit program mainly because of the companies NOT MICROSOFT who would of guessed. This is why Vista is a good OS and everyone blames it to be crappy because companies are not making stuff to work with it.
X:\Program Files (x86), X:\Windows\SysWOW64, HKLM\Software\WoW6432Node are designed for 32bit components using WoW64
X:\Program Files, X:\Windows\System32, HKLM\Software are designed for 64bit native
not quite.
program files x86 are for 32
program files are for 64
system32 for 32
sysWOW64 are for 64.
yea works good as vmware client.
I have the same problem with a Netgear wireless adapter here, they do have a 32-bit driver but no 64-bit driver and it sure sucks. Windows Update did find a driver for it after a while, but that driver is not directly from Netgear (I think it's from Atheros or something) and is not completely stable. I can't use normal sleep/standby mode (S3 mode) with it and my connection will drop after a couple of hours. So I have no use for that adapter at the moment and just use another one instead. I'm talking about my Vista 64-bit install right now though. I only installed the Windows 7 32-bit beta so far and with that one I have no problems whatsoever (yet :p:).
BTW, I heard reports that the Firefox 3.1 Beta (2) supported the new preview style that Windows 7 has, but for me it doesn't. Is it not enabled by default, or is it still in the works? Also, does anyone know if you can adjust the delay there is between hovering over a taskbar icon with your mouse and the preview window showing up? I think that delay is to long and I'd like to adjust it, maybe I should search through the registry a bit and see what I can find. Although I doubt I'll be able to find something over there.
Dose any one have problem with divx-avi files?
Not quite indeed ;)
WoW64 = Windows On Windows 64bit.
SysWOW64 is redirected to System32 when WindowsOnWindows64 32bit emulation environment is being used, ie 32bit native app. And holds all 32bit native drivers/dlls/apps.
System32 is always 64bit native.
Tell you what if you want to see it for yourself, run x:\windows\system32\cmd.exe, then check task manager process for it and it will be native 64bit, then run x:\windows\syswow64\cmd.exe, check task manager and you will see a "*32" next to process. That means its running under WoW64 32bit emulation
;)
HEres an MSDN article if you are interested in learning.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/cc300794.aspx
mikeyakame kewl :) i'll check that later on . 10x
hehe cool no worries ;)
I've become accustomed to the design as when developing / compiling you need to get your head around it so as not try and compile 32bit app in a 64bit dev shell and make it either unusable for 32bit windows or get errors.
Also note that native 32-bit installers ie. NSIS which Firefox/Thunderbird x64 builds use, will install into Program Files (x86) because thats where the environment variable for 32bit app points to. Until NSIS is rewritten for 64bit native that problem will be there.
yea i have the same issues when running 32bit ms.net app on 64bit iis.
That doesn't seem to fully work for me though. I have FF 3.1b2 32-bit installed on my Windows 7 install and the taskbar thumbnail previews don't work in the same fashion as for IE8. I heard they did, but I guess its not yet implemented and is still 'on the drawing board' so to speak.
Does anyone know where I should install my 32-bit Vista driver for my wireless card? The .inf file won't do a right-click install, device manager won't take the .inf file - even though it's asking for a .inf file - and I can't connect to the internet via the standard network port on my mobo to let Windows Update install a driver. Also, none of the pre-installed network drivers work.
Is there any folder I can drop the .sys file into? The package comes with the .inf and .sys file.
Are you using x86 or x64 though?
x64 Windows 7. So there is absolutely zero compatibility for 32-bit Vista drivers and 64-bit Windows 7, but 32-bit applications will work fine?
Wanna get a key the easy way just go here and follow the directions. You have to have a hotmail acct to logon though. Sorry id someone has already posted this, you can delete if it's redundit. http://www.neowin.net/news/main/09/0...ows-7-beta-key
Yukontrooper,
64bit OS requires 64bit kernel mode drivers. 32bit applications on the other hand aren't a problem.
You can set the desktop background to be a slideshow. A bit of OSX is creeping through.
NVIDIA have beta drivers though update as well.
I did download the Nvidia drivers through Windows Update.
Has anybody received indexing errors from trying to install 32-bit drivers? I've had them a few times now, and I think that's where they've come from. Of course, I won't be installing 32-bit drivers anymore, but I had to ask because I want to make sure it's not my hard-drive. Error check doesn't bring up anything in HD Tune.
If using a 64bit OS you should enable memory address remapping in bios too!
Just a heads up mate!
My personal flavours are either FreeBSD, Gentoo or Debian. But I've never really taken much taste to *nix GUI and never used OSX for more than a few minutes at a time.
I wish they would combine the flexibility of *nix shells ie zsh/bash/csh and Windows UI. I would be in heaven :D Powershell is nice but it's too clumsy and over-simplified that it becomes annoying.
I just couldn't get my video drivers installed on Ubuntu. It said there were no restricted drivers available, and if I tried to manually download and install them, it would half install and prevent me ever downloading other packages. With Windows I just run the setup, restart and it works. In Win 7 the drivers are already installed.
My video card fan runs at 100% without drivers installed, that's why I wanted them :(
