how did this get changed to this in the following quoted post.
"the other spots, Chicago and NY"
wasn't aware of a NY shindig.

well I didn't get an email back but not all news is sour, I may be going with someone else to the boston event. More info to come.
Everyon should have invites now. Email me if you don't.
Team is working on vids and pics here in chicago now. Should be up soon.
For all going to chicago and boston, take advantage of maps, gps, and our directions. Be early, travel safe, don't get lost.
So no info from the Monday event at all?
If there was a Monday event it was on another plane of existance.
wow, it must be a huge event if it's going to take all day to set up pics and video.
I'll be there unless we get a heavy snowstorm friday.
Driving into Boston at 6pm on a weekday in a snowstorm is like slamming a hammer into your nuts. Just not productive and doersn't feel good!:D
same here, I went to the site from the first email and put in all my ifo but not heard back yet.
Something on the site about they had to verify your info or check you out.
Maybe I shouldn't have sent in a pic with my Intel coat on?:ROTF:
i have two friends who are very interested in going to this event. i know that i can only bring one guest, but is it possible to sneak in another friend? the other friend sent an email to simon, but didn't get a reply back. btw, i'm going to the chicago event tonight.
little snowy here in milwaukee, i have to imagine chicago isnt any different. my friend and i are taking the train down and will probably try to get in chi around 6-6:30. lookin forward to this! be careful everyone!
I'll be watching it on the web. I'll give anyone a fiver if they scream Leroy Jenkins and run up and tip over the LN2.
I will be there ( boston )
As for tipping over the ln2 um whats gonna keep the vodka cold if that happens
i heard some light snow tonight in chicago so nothing to worry about. i'll be looking for XS members at the event. i wonder how many XS members will be at the event. i got like 3 hours to kill before the event. i get out of work at 3:30. i wonder if AMD will need some help with setting up :).
are you familiar with where the event is held in relation to the chicago ogilvie metra station is? google maps it looked like it was just 10-15blocks east and 5 blocks north of the station so i figured we'd just grab a cab. does that sound reasonable? thanks
Chicago is today? I thought it was yesterday(Monday, 8th. :o). Can't wait for the info! :(
Well we are sitting at the bar at ogilvie, probably grab a cab in an hour or so and head over
Ahhhh told my friend to guess 4.0 max air oc and he won a 4870x2 outta it I only got a 4850
Wow, dang that must've felt like a rip for you. Congrats to your friend though, free 4870X2... I would kill for that :yepp: Still, I would settle for a free 4850
Anything interesting you are allowed to inform us about from the event? Or was it similar to the one in San Fran?
6.0 crisis run on ln2 was new high, I guessed that too but cpuldn win again. 1.56 volts for 4.0ghz on air like 1.9 v on 6ghz ln2 run. No temps recorded from windows
Ooh, that's the first figure I've read regarding voltage and OC'd PII. So it's about a 16% increase from stock voltages for a 33% overclock if my maths are correct (1.56v/1.344v = 1.16, 4/3 = 1.33). Anyone have any idea what voltages would be safe for PII or can draw any voltage range comparisons from PI and PII?
I'm guessing that 'cause an Intel Q9550 has stock volts at ~1.21v and an acceptable max voltage of ~1.47v, that the PII will have a voltage range of maybe 1.344(stock) to ~1.6v? All guessimation!
Yes they said feel free to talk about what we saw so I give u voltages. And I believe I overheard an amd guy saying the air runs were well within pII's limits
Edit to add u gotta member they onlyhd 30 min. To get
max oc outta 5 random cpu's so they were far from tweaked n fine tuned
And to add (might be made up might have heard it from the horses mouth ;) ) something like around 3.5ghz 24/7 with stock 1.35 vcore on air ;)
did the crysis bench loop on 6.0ghz or single run?
Crisis bench needed 2 make 2 passed in a row to be 'stable'
here is a video of where the event in oston is going to be at.
looks like a cool building lots of windows...green themed!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBxAebK2ZYE&eurl=
They coukda got higher on air IMO but that was highest they got in the time frame. Not much higher but they really only had like 5 min. With each chip and they had to make 2 crisis passes
Hey CrazyD, Gratz on the show and the 4850!
Did you pay any attention to what Mobo's they were using?
Gigabytes and reference amd boards
i'll be going dino, you can pick my brain saturday morning ;)
nah man
i will be picking my own brain on Sunday (your Saturday) ;) :D

i want to know NOW :D:D:D heheheh
I didn't run the benchs. The 2 finns and 2 guys from amd had friendly comp. Dino read the thread u seem lost
just a bit lost with your posts atm
I am on the train on the way home from the Chicago event on my buddies iPhone. The guys from team Finland where able to run the crysis bencark loop succesfully @ 6ghz and complete a session of 3Dmark.
The event was awesome and it was cool to chat with all of the AMD guys.
I'd like to thank Simon and XS foe the oppourtunity to attend. I will post more later when I have a in and it's easier to type.
I won a Phenom 2 and my buddy won a killed nic. :D
did you guys see any 3DMARK scores damn it hgeheheh
congratulations on the PHII Mattskees, and thanks for the info.
Sorry dino I'm on my bb storm keepin it short. Its same setup as san fran details pretty much except the finns got to clock at chicago preview as well as amd guys.
And I must say thx for everything amd and especially for the free vodka, my friend and I got our moneys worth that's for sure!
Free Phenom II
There is to be no sleep! only benches!
I really hate to be the one to dampin your spirits Christmas, I really do! But I don't think they get them until Jan. Then again, I could be wrong!
Yep your right we have to wait till january to get them... They are coming in the mail.
I won a 4850 1gig, the friend I brought with me will be getting a phenomII in january :D
Everybody else on the event that guessed wrong also got a phenomII, so they gave out around 20 of them! I see XS flooded in january with penomII records...
6ghz passed two runs in crysis and one 3dmark05 witch resulted in(if I remember correctly) 35000 with one stock(i assume) 4870x2.
There should be more then enough photos of the event and also many videos. (they filmed everything for the amd game page and they record the stream tomorrow from the same location)
the guys from finnland told me they tried 2.0Volts a few times during the afternoon without any problems. (but who knows how long it will take to kill the chip with that voltage)
That's alright.
I still have an unused M3A79-T I want to sell off for the DFI 790FXB before I do anything. :D
The event was :banana::banana::banana:ing awesome. Everyone from Team AMD were really talkative, and just laid back and easy going. They answered pretty much every question I asked, even some they shouldn't of. :D Good things are too come.
I met alot of cool people there and it was awesome that pretty much everyone there was so enthusiastic about AMD as all of us are.
Simon was an awesome guy, and I thank him again for the opportunity to attend. I'm gonna say it again man, you just made my month.
I hope everyone who goes to the Boston event gets the same kind of treatment we did. It really was a nice event.
It was worth the freezing cold ass walk to and from the train station.
Cheers.
Argh why are they ignoring us up here in Canada??
I am insanely envious of you all!
Mattskees: Man I envy you... I really wanted to go to that show!
I live in Cincinnati, so it's only a few hours drive from here, but things are so busy at work that I didn't dare ask for a day off. I'm sure it was a blast, and it would've been cool to meet some folks you only know from XS forums.
Did you pay much attention to the boards they were testing on? Is there a reason you want to ditch the Asus 79-T? It does REALLY well with the Phenom I's...
Yeah. Every computer that I was able to see inside of via window and/or antec skeleton had the Gigabyte 790GX and Dominator ram.
The reason I wanted to go with the DFI is because I always had great luck with DFI and I kind of want to make a shot out back to the old DFI/AMD glory days with a DFI Board, Crucial Ram, PC Power and Cooling PSU and a Lian Li case.
My #1 dream pc ever was the DFI CX3200, x2 3800, x1800/x1900 in crossfire, PCPC 510w, 2gb Ballistix ddr500 and a Lian Li v1000. I just could never afford it back than, so when I build that box I settled on mATX with the Biostar 6100, 3200+ and 2gb of OCZ ddr500.
I have a v1010 and I had great luck with my last DFI/Crucial products so I had decided to give myself the dream rig I always wanted, just with current parts. :D
If you can respect that. I've been debating on keeping the Asus and just buying the DFI so I can toy around with both.
I got a peek at CPU scores in 3Dmark 06 at 6ghz, do you guys really want to know the number?
I think fugga is just a cruel person by nature , and I think a bit jealous too having seen those coldbug free runs at minus 180C - I have to say it was such awesome thing to watch! Can't wait to run one of these puppies in the very near future!
Awesome job AMD, Macci, Sampsa, SF3D and Peter! Great event and so good to see AMD back in the game!
i just want to add my thoughts on the event in chicago. AMD rocks and came thru again for their loyal fans. Simon and company were awesome. ok, so my buddies came with me and one of them was afraid of not getting in. don't worry folks, you'll get in. good luck to those who are going to the boston event. what can i say, everything was awesome. shout out to the great Fugger, i shook your hand :). i also ran into another XS member. things i got to see:
mach II hooked up to the stacker case
the new thermaltake case(my next case if you want to change chassis)
the humongous lian li case
the bare naked antec case
LN2.....(my buddy couldn't stop talking about it).
all processors at the event were phenom II
i tried the logitech racing wheel/chair at DRIFT(wow)
it was a great event and everyone was a winner if you stay till the end.
congrats to the Finnish team for the win on LN2 overclocing to 6Ghz. i'm looking forward to another event like this. absolutely awesome.
If I win a phenom II when i go I will be holding some form of contest for those not fortunate enough to go as I have no plans to use a ddrII variant unless its on a reference motherboard which at this point in time I do not think I will have access to.
Stay tuned ;)
Did they say when they'd go on sale?
They said that the cpu's won will be shipped in january, that said they will likely be for sale in january.
charles
spill the beans man spill the beans :D
For those unfamiliar or familiar with the area there is a best buy we could all park at and carpool from a mile away, I have a feeling parking is going to be a pain knowing the area fairly well.
The one off of frontage rd, Enjoy you most likely know exactly where i'm talking about.
14 Allstate Rd Dorchester, MA 02125
It's not that hard to guess. It can't be lower than Phenom I per clock, which scores ~4000 in Vista at 3Ghz.In XP,Phenom scores 10% better(~4400pts),Vista kills the CPU score for some reason when Phenom is in question.
So if it was Vista(like i suspect),than the CPU score at 6Ghz should be somewhere between 8200 and 8500 points, assuming 6% better IPC than Agena and 96% efficiency in scaling with clock from 3 to 6GHz.Am i close? :)
Early Retail PII 940 tests
He's gonna be trying on water later. :D
if retail phenom on avg all of these are capable of such speeds, this will be the chip to have =) I cant wait!!!!
I just have to figure out what mobo to pair it with.
I just sent thru a request that they take one of the air cooled machines and set up BOINC on it and run the WCG HCC project on it.
That would show a very real world comparison to the Intel based systems.
Real world to you, not at all to me ;)
So it's the 20th of December? I asked my shop and they said January...
I've just gone and bought a throwaway AM2 CPU so I can get a new board and memory etc set up and on water for the 940 coming out.
That is true and I do agree with you on that point BUT to gage the effectiveness of a processor or shall we say rate it against others the only reasonable way to do so is to have both run the same app and compare them.. As in the benchmarks that we run.
I assume your familar with benchmarks?:D
thenagain this demonstration is drawing heavily on a crowd that has a large interest/fixation with DC. a demo in this capacity would go a long way in promoting this launch with the DC community.
i've got 20x200 stable at 1.3v, cpu can also bench at 5.0+.
But i'm not anticipating intel hardware demos being introduced so last minute.
I didn't say that the benchmark you suggested is not a decent benchmark, I just said that your claim as it being "very real world comparison" isn't always correct.
Next to the obvious fact that everyone has a different opinion regarding what benchmarks should be used to measure performance and how those measurements should be compared, there are much more other factors to take into account if you want a real world comparison: price, heatload, idle power drawing, availability and so on.
I'd say that your BOINC benchmark would give a fairly good indication of what this CPU can do in comparison to an Intel alternative. However, scoring lower doesn't mean it's worse, even in your benchmark. If it's 25% slower, but 50% cheaper, you could buy two and have a 50% faster platform :).
Me personally I don't think although i could be wrong that deneb is meant to go head to head with i7 clock per clock. This is just based on an educated guess based on suggested retail price and current retail prices of the I920. Etc retail 3.0 deneb suggested ball park $300 I920 $300.
I would love to see how it compares to current intel quads however especially q9550 being priced in its range, If asked I would bring my current rig for a head to head comparison on air.
I'm thinking that Amd most definitely has the edge here with what apears to be a majority of cpu's stable @ 4.0 on air while most struggle for 3.6 on air with intel.
Actually the benchmark inside BOINC is a useless thing.
It is the timeframe required to do the work itself that shows the true power of any cpu.
I also can't think of any better way to measure a cpu's effectiveness than researching the ways to cure disease.
I know that I'm in the minority on that point on this forum where there are over 80,000 members and maybe 2000 that do this type of work but thats how I feel.
That is correct and we agree on this.
There's more to total cost than the chip itself.
Two system require additional space, a second PSU,hard drive, etc so many times the more expensive cpu can be a lesser total cost when all the factors are included.
This is why I buy server grade equipment not gaming systems.
Many benefits that more than offset the initial cost.
They don't break down like gaming systems do.
They require less maintainence than gaming systems.
I have 2-8 core clovertown machines here that have run at 100% load since December 2006 and with the exception of a 35 hour downtime to electrical loss from an ice storm are at 100% load 24/7..
That's TWO years at 100% load 24/7..
There simply is no gaming machine that will do this that I have seen.
