your telling me.
Imagine while probing you find that your dramv is at 2.24v and your QPIv is at 1.81v:shocked:
Oh well at least when the the BIOS is set to default it had the CPU idling @ 1.31v and 1.52v under load:p:

I'm gonna check mine. I'd contact Asus about this. It's possible a component could've been left off the board, or this could be a BIOS issue. Are you running the latest BIOS. They have released a couple already. If this is happening on many boards, we need to get this fixed immediately. That is way outside of Intel specs. I've seen overvolting before, but that's waaaaay outta control. That could permenently damage people's hardware. I have 1000 US Dollars in my Extreme CPU. I don't wanna damage it. It's my first Extreme CPU. I will OC, but not with voltages going wild like that.
That's like the opposite of vDroop...like vDroop or loadline calibration is screwed up or something. Do you have dynamic loadline enabled?
Seriously, this has me worried.
i'll ask again....
can anyone suggest any settings to get 4ghz+ stable?
im using the R2E and a 920
Looks like folks are busy or they haven't seen this yet. I'll test mine when I can get it running. Right now I'm stuck...my damn burner failed and without it I can't load an OS so that really blows...it'll be next week before I can get it running.
I promise you though I won't forget about this, and will test for it on the RIIE. Specs are in my sig. I have it written down. I will post about any BIOS/Actual VCore, VDimm or any other voltage delta between the BIOS and actual.
I'm only capable of going to certain clocks due to stock air right now. Later I will be able to get it on water. I still should be able to see if there is an issue with this voltage. This is a serious thing, and I wanna see if this is an issue just with your board, or if more than one does it.
I'm gonna use the BIOS and ProbeIt with a external digital multimeter. I'm wondering if the BIOS is borked.

1. Fixed the CPU ratio setting incorrect in TweakIt Batch File function.
2. Revised the default value of keyboard TweakIt control hotkey to "P" in BIOS setup
btw: do u thing it would make a huge difference if i use the upper blue one + the white one instead of the 2 blue ones for sli or doesnt it even work at all since the manual says "use the blue ones for sli/cf" ?
would prefer to use my auzentech soundcard, but the second gpu would interfere with the pci slot.
still waiting on the cpu block so im not able to test it.
Got my board today :D

Only cost me a extra £240 to upgrade after selling my old kit :D
that works well for me since i use the sys for video/audio editing
ty =)
think some1 alrdy written it, but if i use both blue ones for sli, am i able to use the white one for a soundcard or would this make a problem, since the 2 blue ones would use all 32 lanes?
Thats normal
With LLC enabled with 1.32500vcore, I get 1.39 on load and idle according to ProbeII
With LLC disabled with 1.32500vcore, I get 1.36 on load and goes down to 1.34 in idle according to ProbeII
This is on my Striker II Extreme
I also hate how ASUS cant get voltages right since the first ROG board came out Grrrr...
i had no probs with llc on my s2e and on my re ^^
is anyone having luck getting this board stable @ 4.3 or higher?
I seem to be stuck at 4.25... I can boot in as high as 4.6 but I can't seem to get 4.3 prime stable :(
help?
ah perfect, so i gonna think bout it and maybe get another soundcard xD
Question I dont know if tweaktown are idiots or not
But they stated that if you run the R2E in Tri-SLI you cant use any of the PCIE 1X slots, does this mean the soundcard too?
also they said the last pcieX16 slot runs in 4 lanes only, I thought these run in 16x/8x/8x in Tri sli?
Which doesnt make a difference usually?
The RIIE runs in 16x8x8. i have that baord and know it well now.
If you use Tri SLI you can still use the top Black PCI for the included soundcard.
Saying the abiove you have options in the BIOS for 16x16x1 or 16x8x8. The X58 supports up to 32 lanes. That is why it is the way it is.
alright this might sound like a noob question but what is the chip that located under the Republic of Gamers Logo? And it looks inter Changable like we will be able to upgrade in the future? is this the case or not?
where are all the user results for this board?
My stuff came today, I'll post results soon. BTW, we need an official thread for this motherboard (unless this is it) It would be great to have one place for us to go like the old P5B days. ;-)
My stuff not coming until this week.
And we might as well keep this as the official thread.
i got water up and running on mine today....

How big of an improvement are you noticing on NB temps with that swiftech on there?
seems to keep the NB and SB both around 34c - 40c so far. mine was 41c - 54c before on the stock air setup.
my nb/sb temps dropped to ~30°c after applying some ic diamond, some washers to increase the pressure and mounting the ek hp block.
I have checked this issue and am not seeing it. My ProbeIt voltages are slightly lower than shown in the BIOS. That was using BIOS 0402,0602, and 0705. I also noticed that when I set 1.65 in the DRAM that I get a 1.65xxx number that is alsightly higher than 1.65, but when read on the Multimeter i get exactly 1.65v, and when the RAM is accessed it flickers between 1.649 and 1.650 which is spot on. I am using mnaual setting for RAM. Not XMS profiles, any turbo modes or any of those "qucik" settings. I've only messed with the RAM side. I ahve not done any CPU OC'ing yet. At present I am waiting ona Video Card RMA to arrive so I can get back to testing. I ahve not measured any inconsistency with vCore when i ahd the system up before.
You might wanna describe what you were doing at the time and your OC level, and anything else you've noticed. So far all my voltages check out in ProbeIt.
I put everything together last night, overall, a MUCH better experience than my last Asus board (Maximus Formula, which ended up being an RMA)
Booted right up the first time. I haven't pushed it too hard yet, but here are my results so far: (this is solid as a rock with Linpack, Prime95, etc)

hi, i just installed rampage 2 extreme to my comp and i´h having problems with adaptec 3805 sas raid controller. when i boot adaptec post screen should pop up but its somekind of buffed cause it leave cursor blinking and dont show adaptec post screen . i have tryed everything, flashed new bios on rampage and adaptec, tryed it on diffrent pci-e slot. is there beta bios available on rampage that would fix this?
YO
anyone else notice that vQPI/DRAM is consistently about 0.05v under BIOS?
i set 1.65v in BIOS DMM reads 1.60v
Has anyone been able to get TweakIt to work in Windows with keyboard control turned on in the bios? You're supposed to be able to hold down "P" (or whatever key you pick in the bios) for 2 seconds and then the arrow keys are supposed to work like the controls on the motherboard. It doesn't work for me, and I have the TweakIt driver loaded in Windows.
Thanks!
Its a lot, them 32M better be good :D Any numbers to share ?
What is stock?? for QPI DRAM core volt? and DRAM bus should be 1.65 right?
I just got my board yesterday and the mosfet heatsinks were loose. The bases were attached the the board but it looks like the thermal epoxy that connected the heatpipe/heat sink assembly to the base failed. I think I can just get some Arctic Silver Epoxy but has that happened to anyone else?
Nice :) Cpuz 149 is very fast and reads cas ok, you might wanna give it a go. Nice mem, what dimms you use ?
Yeh, this was done before 1.49. And speed didn't matter, it was rock stable :D
Using Kingston hyperx 2000mhz cl9 dimms, so it's not really that impressive.:p: I can't tell whether it's the uclk or the ram that's the limiting factor beyond 2200. I'm pretty sure it's uclk.
How good is the soundcard that comes with it? Its called an X-Fi, would it be better than the gamer I got?
Has ANYONE gotten TweakIt to work from inside Windows using a keyboard?
That's something I haven't tried, and wouldn't. That's a dangerous thing to do. If you have a OC fail, and loose the KB...well, you get the pic. It's either/or for me. BIOS or Manual Tweakit on the board, or the Asus Util, but combining TweakIt with the KB? Negative...not gonna give up direct manual control to my KB as that would be my last chance.
i just CANT get 4ghz to boot into windows with my RIIE. im running an i7 920 cooled with a Swiftech GTZ and swiftech NB-MAX on the NB backed by a iwaki RD30 and 2 PA120.3's. temps are fine and i have tryed what seems like every single setting in the bios and 4ghz will never make it to the desktop.
whats the deal? any suggestions?
Tried 19 and 21 multi?
What's your specs? Could it be PSU? You've got the awesome board with what is arguably the best power circuitry out there. Also what BIOS? Have you tried reloading OS in case something got hosed up? Have you tested for Memory Errors with MemTest? That system should at least boot to 4GHz with that kind of cooling.
yup.
using a pc power and cooling 860watt psu. i have 2x 4870x2's and 2x gtx260's. im trying to get 4ghz to run with a single gtx260 though.
tried 050X bios, 0602, 0705. all seem the same.
reloaded both xp and vista and 7 many times on different drives.
memory passes memtest flawlessly. im currently using the red gskill 1600mhz 3x1gb kit but i'll have a new set of gskill black PI 1600mhz on monday.
maybe the cpu is a dud?
Firstable, plz execute my english:)
You got the same problem like me. I flashed the bios 0602 then 0705 , but still can't get 4GHz although i set the VCore: 1.45V-1.5V . I tested the RAM and it's ok.

can someone walk me through how to set up network teaming on this motherboard? I'd really appreciate it
Hello everyone! I am new to the forums here, but I would like to share how I modded my NB heatsink so I could use any sound card on an Asus Rampage II extreme!! I used an old nforce 2 board NB heatsink and attacjed one of the fans that was in an old Corsair Dominator fan that had a dead fan. I tore out one of the fans and mounted it to the heatsink and it works great! I wanted to be able to use Tri Sli in the near future and use my X-fi titanium card!

I hope this is helpful!!
Hehehe, yeah! It's a good thing I always remove the parts I think I can reuse later off dead components and boards!!:)
We've got one too :)
BringerOdeath, nice water! I think we'll try something similar.
Hehe, Thx Donor! I am thinking about putting another 240mm rad on the top of my case with the lian li top panel they just realesed for the pc-p80. The heat my too graphics cards produce and the I7 is insane, this should do a good job in combination with my gtx480mm rad!!:)
Yeah, It took me 1.4125v to be stable with HT on for 8 threads. I had to turn off turbo mode because it would instantly bluescreen when trying to increase the frequency to 4.2 ghz. I also had to use a multi of 19x because 20x200 would boot to windows but instantly crash When I ran Prime95.....I am using the same memory jasonelmore has also.....
i have tried all auto. it will boot once but not again after reboot. i have tried underclocking the ram and leaving the timings loose. nothing seems to work.
i can get the cpu and memory level up settings to boot into windows just fine. i did that and measured the voltages and then set them manually and the board wont even post. something is not right here.
Hmm...I know that on my R2E with a Core i7 940 I cannot get 200x20 stable at all. Nothing works. Volts, QPI volts, loosening DRAM timings and speeds, amplitude, nothing...
However, 212x19 is no problem...
I hope that this is not some kind of engineering fault that made it to some R2E boards and not all. It's also not likely that I can contact Asus for an RMA and say "sorry, my i7 940 cannot clock to 4GHz using 200x20 but is fine with 212x19 so please replace my board".
@dejanh
some i7 have problems with mutliplier 20. my first 920 have this problem too. my second 920 not. change the cpu and test again ;)
new bios

several changes...
Ok for all of you that can't get your 920's up to 4.0 Ghz (4.2 with turbo mode) go to my post over here. I started a thread the other day dedicated to us people with Rampage II Extreme's. I'll post my Bios settings over there.

cool, thx jason...
now on asus ftp

What are the fixes or changes in bios 0804?
Is this only a problem on Asus boards? It sure as heck sounds like it is, which would be indicative of either a propagating BIOS fault or a motherboard engineering fault. But I doubt every Asus would carry the same eng. fault so maybe it really does have to do with the BIOS?
Are we aware of Gigabyte boards (or others) having this issue?
Either way this is POS. I tried two i7 940 CPUs now with the same results. In fact, the first CPU was worse as it ran hotter. I can run 19x200 rock solid for days if I wanted, even 216x19 with some serious volts but overall this is pretty pathetic as almost each and every i7 920 will get about the same results. So much for paying $350 more for a higher binned CPU.
not only Asus
Chri$ch have gigabyte
Hey R2E owners, ive been reading that u guys are having problems Oc'ing the board over 4Ghz? Is this an ASUS problem? and can it be fixed by BIOS updates, or a manufacturing problem?
Would u guys still recommend the R2E over the Gigabyte-x58-Extreme after uve gone through these problems?
P.S- Not sure if this is in the right section though :o, delete me if necessary!
EDIT: Typo!
It's hard to tell what is what with the 920's and 940's becasue the memory *could* be coming into play and walling out. You don't hav the options in the BIOS to adjust the memory ratios becasue they are locked. That's something that can be done with a 965, but that won't tell anybody what is going on with the lower clocked versions. It's possible it *could* be memory, or a BIOS glitch, or a combination of things.
The trick is to isolate it, but the problem is you can't with a retail 920, or 940. It takes an ES sample that is unlocked to do that, and to have one of those, a user needs Intel support. If it is a BIOS issue, give it some time. We have brand new technology. We've had alot of initial BIOS releases to fix the nasty things, but they are probably working on the other tougher stuff now.
For those that have Rampage II Extreme boards, there WILL be support. Take that to the bank. No, we didn't pay a premium price for these boards for nothing. Yes, they are THAT good.
If this is becasue of a BIOS glitch, they'll find it. I'm not sure whether it is or not. I'm just saying if it is, they'll catch it.
^^ That being said with your 965 have you noticed any of these issues? I see alot of ppl running 4ghz+ with the 965.
Memory ratios are not locked on 920/940
So anyone tried this new bios? Changes made?
Everybody STOP right now...that's a beta BIOS. Dang Man. I can't believe that somebody posted that like that and didn;t even warn people that it was a Beta. :shakes:
http://translate.google.com/translat...6rlz%3D1I7SUNA
T Flight many of the new bios youll find here and in other topics are beta, nothing to worry about. If you want to be 100% sure only get them from Asus website... Mem ratio's are only locked on ES i920/940's not retail.
Not sure whether the 20x200 issue is only CPU related. When i started playing had a hard time getting that stable while 19x211 and 21x190 are fine. Now testing mem in superpi with HT disabled, 20x200 runs as wel:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...M4000mhzC9.jpg
[Edit] Maybe this helps: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...&postcount=805
I sure hope you are right. Some stupid thing is going on here. The above link to my post in another thread points to me successfully running 4-cores/8-threads for a while without issues when normally I cannot even run for 5 seconds without crashing at 20x200 (19x, 21x, and 22x multipliers are just fine). However, after a couple of runs it went back to usual. Crashes a few seconds in, no matter the voltage settings. I cannot see this being CPU related though (maybe it is the chipset ) as such a large fault on so many chips really would not be overlooked by the manufacturer. Processors are some of the most precise devices built and they rarely have issues, and especially not of the likes a lot of people are seeing here. I've had tons of chips go accross my desk and I have never seen one with issues. Something else must be at play...
I do hope Asus comes through and fixes this somehow...I really, really do...
Edit: After some more tests, I am starting to think that this has something to do with heat. If I lower the ambient temperature I can run stress testing longer at 20x200 then when I leave it at normal. Also, if I crash at 20x200 and then restart to try the run again, I cannot do it. But if I turn the system off for a few minutes, then power it on, I can run 20x200 again. Why in the heck would this be the case though when even higher volts and temps have been stable under say 19x216? Something making the CPU too sensitive to heat at 20x200? Some protection circuit tripping when it is not supposed to? Any ideas why this would be the case?
have you guys tried upping Vmem? I have no problems running 200x20 at all, but I for sure needed Vcore, VTT and! Vmem to accomplish that
What settings are you using Mike? I am bsoding after about 5-6 hours in prime 95....
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...=205521&page=7
You can see how i did it here, with my fuzion v2!! Pics arent so great, done with my cell phone...
I take it the bundled x-fi card is pretty pointless then, unless your installing a single GPU in second PCIe slot? (which the manual recommends not to do)
I have my 280 fitted in slot 1 and have just found this out  It may have squeezed in if the bracket on my 280 was not a double one.
So...no bloody sound! :(
no, the bundled sound card will fit even with 3 cards in tri sli in the top pci-e 1x slot! It's aftermarket soundcards that wont fit without modification. Did you see how I modded mine so i could fit any sound card? Its a page back or two on this thread!:)
so will the bundled sound card fit without the modifiaction and tri sli 280's? Because im currently tossing up between the evga and the rampage, but concerned about the sound card issue and tri sli. Also does tri 280's fit comfortably? I have a thermaltake armor + case...
Yes, the bundled sound card will fit with Tri-SLI. Did you people really think ASUS would ship a motherboard for the purpose of tri-SLI on the intel platform and not have the use of sound if you used tri-SLI? I have the board and it will fit don't worry.
Ok thanks, so evga or the rampage?
Yeah, i just wanted to use a better sound card, so i used a different heatsink than the one that came with the board. It was a heatsink from an nforce 2 board that died about 5 years ago, LOL!! I just strapped a fan to it!!:D
