Ohh, thanks.
Ohh, thanks.
Does flashing to the asus bios actually LOWER the voltage? Because I can't clock as high now by a few mhz. I'm going to pencil mod soon.
ya, flashing my asus bios lowerd my voltages. I guess it's fine though as it unlocked higher clocks.
Yo, OP, do you have an asus bios that DOESN'T lower stock voltages? Cause I need one.
This BIOS has correct checksum (works in beta 8.8) and upperlimit is set to 720mhz instead of 700.
The BIOS version is also newer than all the others i've seen
http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/2...12.080807.html
Edit it in RBE 1.3 and set 1.158v (max) on 3d, and you're in good shape. Also make sure you update the fan-settings, as the current ones in this version are bugged (stays at 30%).
If anyone has any BIOS'es with a higher upper limit and correct checksum, please let me know.
Leonarderman - do you have a visiontek lightly overclocked hd4850 bios?
Are these bios preconfigured with higher fan settings too for a lower idle and load?
Thanks.
Can I use some other's (ie Sapphire/Asus, etc) Bios on my Gecube 4850 ? I havent recieved the card yet. Where can I find a Gecube stock bios ??
I have WC and willing to use 1.4v with 850/1100, Lets hope it turns out good.
i'd like to request one for the visiontek hd 4850 as well
here is the original bios in a zip file. you'll have to unzip it first.
Is there a HIS 4850 Bios?
Here's your HIS HD4850 Bios file: HIS HD4850 Bios Modded
Core Upper limit 800MHz
Mem upper limit 1300MHz
And don't change anything!

Yes, you can use sapphire/Asus's HD4850 Bios because they're the same. You can find your stock Bios below. Let's modify it with RBE1.13 :D

Your Bios below attachment.
Default Core 675MHz / Mem 1050MHz
Upper limit core 950MHz / Mem 1250MHz
Fan auto cool 50oC---Fan40% ====> max 95oC----Fan100%
Bios checksum corrected! ;)
Thanks leonarderman for the visiontek bios - but quick question - why is it 675/1050 while the other "lightly clocked" versions are 700/1100?
Is it that the visiontek can't handle it? I bought a preflashed visiontek 4850 off of ebay for a decent price (used) set at 725/1100 but under 3dmark06 and Vantage appears unstable since it pauses/jumps. Do you think 700/1100 would be ok?
Someone sent to me a problem with Bios Sapphire Lightly Overclocked Core 700/1100MHz. I have tested with my card and didn't see any problem. But They say it make their card unstable! :( So I think 675/1050Mhz are enough to use. You can Overclock higher with CCC + AMD GPU Tool.
Please note: combining CCC + AMD GPU Tool to be best Performance of Overclocking! :D
Hey, this happened to me yesterday! I was playing Space Siege with 730/1100Mhz just fine, then I went to play some other game (I think it was GRID...) and bang! VPU recovery error and tray notification!
After that, I couldn't play any other game (even Space Siege which was runnning fine) with that OC... I had to go back to 700 core or something like that. The 2D clocks also changed from 160/500 to 160/750 which was odd...
Then I remembered this thread and saw your post. I went and delete the profiles folder and I have everything ok again.
Is there any way to go around and prevent this protection from kicking in? I don't want to use a fixed BIOS (been there).
Thanks :)
Actually RBE 1.13 doesn't allow you to change the limits according to the creator of RBE. He said 1.13 will be the shortest lived version. He will have a 1.14 out very soon.
Factotum, I'm using this modded BIOS you posted with my card right now... will it work with Catalyst 8.8 or will I get a black screen?
Also, can anyone provide me with a reference Sapphire BIOS with JUST the core upper limit raised to 800 that can work with Cat. 8.8?
Thanks in advance :D
BTW, I swapped my cards stock cooler for this:
http://www.monocromatica.com/fez/ATI/DSCF9027.JPG
Do you guys think it will let me achieve higher OC with a slight pencil mod?
Actually tried my ebay bios modded visiontek hd4850 on another motherboard. Stable no artifacts 3dmark06 and Vantage. Bios set 725/1125. Fan set to idle mid 50's and not get past 65 load. Works with CCC 8.7, haven't tried 8.8.
For you guys to play with if you want.

RBE v1.14 is available now!
Here are the new things:
v1.14
- Fixed bug with method one overdrive hack not working. Should run fine now.
- Added fan control for 4870 X2. Completely new controller chip, was a big pain in the ass to code... :-/
- Made spin up fix, powerplay functionality and voltage decrease in the one-click update for 4xx0 cards seperately selectable.
- Fixed WinFlash check sum correction bug.
- Added and fixed a lot of small things. Too many and too minor to mention all... :-)
Please tell me your opinion about everything! :)
Here is the .rom file if you prefer to use winflash - worked fine for me.
http://rapidshare.com/files/139312923/4850new.rom
is that saphire the reference model? If it is, none of you guys that have a stock 4850 need a different bios because of the pcb is the same
Thanks BAGZZlash for the 1.14 quite fast :)
Why is the HD 4850 limited to only 720 Mhz (with the method 1-Hash)...at least 750Mhz or so would have been nice :(
honestly, it should have been 740mhz, that way ati could have protected the 4870's market but please customers, my guess is the stock cooler couldn't handle above 700mhz very well and then they'd be replacing a lot of parts due to their CCC ocing policy
leonarderman, would it be safe for me to use RBE to up the voltages for your modified Visiontek 4850, and apply the fan spin up fix? If not could you please do that? Thanks.
Will these custom bios' work with CCC 8.8? I noticed that the one i have will not.
No modded bios is working with the Catalyst 8-52 and Catalyst 8.8...any idea if the CCC limit can be increased by using the signature of this Gainward Golden Sample HD 4850 bios :)
http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/2...12.080806.html
A limit of 750Mhz on the core makes a lot of sense as most of the cores can do arnd that much only without any hard mods :)
yes, this is very well possible, according to the "F.A.Q" in rbe 1.14 the author has written that the signatures that are signed by ati are used to increase the ccc clock limits, so that it works properly with the drivers.
So we need to either report to the author, or we try and manually implement this key by our self. So yes it is very possible :DQuote:
"Urgent information on overdrive increase
What is this all about? Maybe you tried overclocking your card using overdrive and found yourself running into the upper limit there. ATI implements this limit into their cards to assure the video card vendors don't overclock their chips too much. They just want to have an overview over the market and maybe, want to participate in the more expensive OC edition cards. Thus, the video card vendors make a video card, create a BIOS for it and send this BIOS to ATI. ATI approves the BIOS (or not), adds a signature to it and sends it back to the vendor. Only then the vendor can produce and ship the card, this is not possible without that signature. The signature mentioned is an encrypted key. The overdrive limit in the BIOS is protected by this key. It can be changed, but if so, the key won't match any more which makes the catalyst driver not recognize the card any more and therefore, this BIOS is unusable. RBE can't decrypt this key, but it can transplant an overdrive limit and its key to another BIOS.
Even though this is an attractive method, it has some disadvantages:
1) There must be BIOSes with increased limits and matching signatures. So far, RBE's author is not familiar with so many such BIOSes.
2) The area that needs to be put into the BIOS contains the deviceID, also. If you are keen enough to put a HD 4850 hash into a 3870 BIOS for example (not recommended, though), be prepared for strange things to happen: Programs that make decisions out of a card's deviceID (just like RBE for example) will be fooled then, of course. Maybe you will have to install the matching catalyst for the new card (in this case, the one for the 4850) after flashing and rebooting. But of course, the 3870 is still a 3870, not supporting many things the 4850-catalyst expects to work. Please try not to mix up video card types, at least not among the video card generations (like 3xx0 and 4xx0 for example). The key matching your card best will be suggested by RBE automatically.
__________________________________________________ _____________________________________
As you can see, there are two methods offered. The first one takes all the stuff described above into account. It's the safer variant, but only available for several video cards. If you can select 'method 1' and 'change to these values', your card is supported. The second method won't take care of the signature described. It will simply change the (protected) overdrive clocks to the values entered. While this can be done to almost any video card, keep in mind that the key won't match any more after changing the limit that way. Some card/Catalyst combination might work however, at least there are reports on the internet that they do. Just try if it works for you if method one is not available for you."
Hey mate, can you edit my Bios to a upperlimit of 1100/1300 and a clock of 160/500 with low voltage for low power consumption under Idle (Powerplay)
Here is the link to my Bios

I have Catalyst 8.8, will I need to roll back my Driver to older version to Flash the bios ?
Thanks a lot.
The problem is with the RAM sub-timings as the Gainward card uses Samsung 0.8ns DDR3 . I got a few red dots here nd there at boot up after flashing to this bios. Went back to the powercolor one with 720Mhz limit :)
I have 4x 3870 water cooled and voltmodded to 1.675V. I pulled down a newer BIOS from Techpowerup, 010.081.001.000 and proceeded to modify it with RBE 1.14. I did touch the custom clocks page. I also selected "Method 1" from the other clock page, and RBE said I would be able to go up to 1100 GPU speed in overdrive, but my max there is 900MHz.
Also in Catalyst 8.6 I can do Quad CrossfireX, in 8.7 and 8.8 I cannot do anything more than 2-way Crossfire, with the same hardware. Anybody else having this issue?
I have attached the BIOS I am using. Any help getting themax clock up past 900 would be great. I have set some of the voltages in the clocks panel to keep the idle voltage at 1.4V and the load voltage at 1.675V with the voltmod I have on each card. I want to set the system to 1000MHz GPU and 1271MHz memory on the 4x video cards just like I was able to with the older 010.071.000.000 BIOS that was posted early this year to get past the 862MHz GPU speed limiter.

Hi leonarderman.
Can please change the limits on my Palit 4850 bios file:

RBE v1.15 is ready for download!
That's the changes:
v1.15
- Fixed bug causing an error message on loading several BIOSes (small ones like several 3870 X2 BIOSes).
- Added remote control feature for WinFlash to acquire and flash BIOSes from within RBE. Will be included in the tutorial soon.
- Superior PowerPlay should be available for more 4870 BIOSes now.
- Added link to the tutorial in the menu bar. (Info... Tutorial on how to use RBE (websource)...)
- Added display for the card's internal voltage table (it's in the clock settings tab).
- Fixed a bug causing the device ID being written incorrectly if it's changed in rare cases. Coded this very drunk, there might be bugs... :-/
- Added some nice method one hack signatures (4850, 4870 X2).
- Added a feature for method one overdrive hack signature saving and loading.
Have fun using it and please be sure to make extensive use of the signatures exchanging thread!
Yes thanks bagzzlash, its the most useful ati tool yet :D
So has anyone been able to get their edited BIOSes to work with 8.8 or 8.9? I've been trying to get mine working.......UGH. There must be a way......
Try using rivatuner with official bios
Is there a way to increase VGPU back to 1.21V like in a BIOS edit? I ran auto tune and got 690/1093.....
I know I can edit the voltage in the XML profile, but when I tried it didn't seem to work...
use RBE 1.15 to edit your voltage in your original bios and reflash with the card 1.158 in RBE will give you max voltage.
It will also work on cat 8.8/9.It will NOT work on 8.8/9 if the bios is modded to more than 1.158v.
http://forums.techpowerup.com/showpo...7&postcount=13
I have the same issues with 3870 cards which are modded. Today I will try going to a pure stock Diamond 010.073.000.xxxxx BIOS, no mods at all, to see if Catalyst 8.7, 8.8 or 8.9 recognizes 4 cards. Then if the BIOS voltage setting is what's really messing things up I will adjust my pots. Currently the cards run 1.4V idle, close to 1.7V at load. Remember these are 3870s. If I can get that working then I will try putting in the "Method #1" signature to unlock the upper speed so I can run the cards at 1000/1275. I'll post my findings tonight, hopefully. Same thing should apply to the 4850 too.
Holy crap... you really need a better CPU *cough C2D :p:* to help unshackle those 3870s. Both of mine score about 15.2k on my system :p: once a new CPU is plonked in I'll be beating your results :D
Agreed, however when I built the system it wasn't certain how limited the Phenoms were. I am eagerly awaiting the 45nm CPUs coming up from AMD... should help unlock some of the potential of my video array and should plug right into the MSI K9A2 Platinum. Back to the subject at hand, I will post about my findings on the voltage settings and CCC 8.8/8.9 compatibility.
Hi,
Would be the Sapphire HD4850 Modded Bios will work under CCC 8.10Beta and Windows Vista 32Bit? Thanks
-Battlestar
is there any modded bios for the sapphire 4850 1Gb Version ?
Mhz Volts CCC limits
one @ 800/1150 souled be fine! plz dady :D
i tried and for some reason when i mod the original bios the card cannot detected by the driver and i get an error code 10 on Vista
i have flashed countless vga's but i can't understand what the fluck is happening on this one
and i have seen this only on sapphire 4850's both 512 and 1Gb versions :(
i tryied all your bios's for the 512 and it does the same think
Is there a custom overclocked MSI hd4850 bios that works with catalyst 8.10?
The low 2d clock (idle, web surfing) of 160 would be ideal as the majority of the time it would be in that position.
Thanks if anyone has it, and if Leonarderman could make it =)
Hey guys, I need some help here.
I have the Sapphire Radeon 4850 and yesterday I flashed my modded BIOS with RBE 1.17.
I changed the default clocks to 720/1200 and I changes the upper limits to CCC at 800/1300.
After tha flash went ok, I tested the system by playing 30 minutes Far Cry2.Everything was great and the temp was good as before the flashing.
Also I used the pc for 4 hours for watching TV or internet use.
Today, I wanted to see some emails and when it reached at windows desktop, I got 3 vertical columns full with artifacts and then my pc froze.I rebooted 3 times and everytime I got the same thing.
Sometime, I got a VPU recover message (even if I had it disabled) about that the graphics adapter was reset. The screen was ok for a few seconds, but again the pc froze.
What is your opinion? Can the bios cause all these troubles, when yesterday was working fine? Can the fan create problems?Or maybe the drivers, which were installed again after the flashing..
use catalyst 8.7
what do you think about this voltage @ full load? do you think it's possible?
my 4850 is volt modded & i use 1.4v for vgpu.
i set 0.89v idle & 1.044v full load in RBE together with 800/1150 core & memclock.
i'm wondering if the hardware monitor's detecting the real voltage required to run 800/1150 stable on atitool artifact test and furmark.
or it's only detecting the voltage set in the bios by RBE? i thought 800mhz core required 1.3v and above?
http://img404.imageshack.us/img404/4...voltageqv0.jpg
i have try to ovec my svga @ 725mhz (hd4850) but result at 3dmark06 is equal to 700mhz
ccc has a block of gpumhz? i have tested to 750mhz @1.158v ( 10min furmark renamed 1440x900 msaa8x extreme burn test)
what is the problem?
what voltmod for hd4850 1gb blu design?
http://i40.tinypic.com/x5dxqt.jpg
i want a simple gpu vmod, with pencil if is possible, under 1.4v ( 1.26-1.3v is better)
is it possible?
it from the other side of the card :p:
The links are dead on the first page.
Can anyone upload these files again pls :)
