Kai, what cpu speed just to make it even?
Thanks to all for the great responses. The vista crysis fail may be fixed, a reader at TPU has a work around, I will try it tonight. I am also desperatly in need of some tool which can oc this beast beyond CCC limits. if any coders out there can get one working I would appreciate it, just PM me so I see it quick. I can provide bios dumps etc.
i run my E4300@ 3240Mhz (360x9)
So far so excellent jimmy! :woot:
To be honest, performance is a little bit disappointing, my OC'ed 8800GS can do almost the same. :(
Okay, maybe OC-potencial is great, drivers will be improved and so on, but that's definetively no real big-time. (Doesn't mean I don't want to play with them ;))
[QUOTE=GoldenTiger;3060286]I'm hearing $299 for the 512 and $329-349 for the 1GB around the various forums... sounds reasonable to me. The memory's expensive but not so expensive it will boost the price obscenely.
Think ill just hang in there and wait tell they go down to 150$ in six months. :D Heck maybe even three the way things are.
The reason , I ask is cause my 8800GTS returns these results, and i want to see how the 4850 does in comparison:

Coming soon 4870 40 TMUS?!!!!!!!!
Nice, I think the GDDR5 would help a lot but I'm going for 2x 4850s myself.
Current setup does this, compare to 24FPS average for ONE 4850, while this is 8800GT 512 SLI:
http://img249.imageshack.us/img249/1...12660cofz5.jpg
4850 = nice! So, will we be able to use atitool/rivatuner/etc. to overclock crossfire 4850s, or gonna have to wait for BIOS flashes for CCC again?
So, basically, 4850 has better score in 1680x1050 on crysis high than 8800GT SLI?
model of the monitor used?? AOC 416-VA Monitor LCD 24" Widescreen max resolution 1920 x 1200 @ 60 Hz .:D

This is awasome :) I am looking forward to 4870 review :)
I'm wondering if my 8800GT will be pwned by the 4850....it probably will, but by how much will determine if i get one :)

3870 has only 64 SP which are capable of 5 operations per cycle = 320. Does 4870 have 160 SP ? Oh yeah, and 3870 has only 16 TF/TMU, same as X1900 or X2900 - what about this one?

Thanks for that Jimmy, but whats the framerate on the custom config WITHOUT any AA, and is there a big increase in framerates once you clock it back to 4Ghz, again with the same config?
I think i may have to invest in one of these....and then maybe another at some point :)
Aaaah - gotcha, i see now :)
7fps improvement....how smoothly did it look...and more importantly, how GOOD did it look? :D
It´s not pretende 4850 vga card maestream?
These runs at 3240 Mhz on the cpu. including custom config runs.
A member ask me to post a comparison with his rig. so this is for Kai. But I figured the rest of you might like a lower cpu run or two. these also are at 1400 x 960 so that might be of use to some also. this represents a midrange rig a little better.?performance down:down:
It looks good but it is scaling from my native 1920 x 1200. I went ahead and jumped back up to 4.8ghz and ran instead. slowed the ram just so I wouldn't have any probs.

doomwill, what do you mean it is not a mainstream card? I don't get your post. please explain better.:)

This is looking more and more awesome.
I wish my motherboard supported SLI... So now I have to decide whether to go cheap and get a 4850, spend a litter more for a 4870 (probably the best choice), or wait for the 4870 X2.
Jimmiz what's the difference with lightmark 2007 on Vista and on XP (it does a big difference)?
I know it does 399 FPS but.. which OS?
Wow, 41fps eh? Okay looks like one of these made my shopping list!
I speak to vga 4850 can not be considered a mainstream card, with that low xcore in crysis, where is the problem?
In which segment it fits, near vga that can place it? Future drivers will have chance to improve?
Erm - hate to break it to you, but it IS a mainstream card, in the price point its aimed at, and it outperforms my 8800GT....
Will you do a few game benches @ 3.0ghz, nobody who buys a HD4850 will have a QX9650 @ 4.80ghz :D
Crysis benches are meh, I sold one of my 8800gtx's for €210 2 weeks ago and this card is not faster..
use the 3.24 Ghz as before, maybe? Most C2D's can do that at the very least!
Those results make it a bit faster than 8800gts, which are alot cheaper..
8800gts $146

That was xp pro, it does 270 on vista same clocks.
and Dragonavenger, I have different drivers, You have a card with GDDR4 and 225mhz more core clock, and you are showing a shot where I was using Kai's custom config file. the results are not comparable. that is why I used big type above the pics:cool:
no comment ,you have something wrong with OS

tuesday i`ll install Abit in9 32max plus 2x8800GT and i`m going show real score with SLI
nice benchmark, well i got mine 3870 last year, desember i think just in time for xmas ;P
woowee, i'm definitely throwing my 1950pro out for this
thanks for this awsome thread :)
Eh, this will likely be cheaper than an 8800GTS 512...which are still at least £60 more than the 8800GT's here (which are £120 at least ($240))
I used to have the same problem with the benchmark, where it would just start the game with the dev mode thing on in the corner. To get it working I had to compleatly remove everything from Crysis and the benchmark off the HDD, then reinstall both the game and the benchmark. After that it worked.
I personally feel the benchmark is more of a worse case senario or something. At 1680x1050 all very high no AA, I can play the game with steady frames (over 22 90% of the time), and it only slows down when there are over 30 guys around me. Thats with a single Sapphire Toxic 3870 at stock clocks, and a E8400 at 3.8. The benchmark however, says 16fps with those settings.
And this card is supposed to be next-gen? My "last-gen" g92 GTS scores better in synthetic benchmarks and games. Dont get me wrong i aint no nvidia fanboi but this is dissapointing.
Isn't 29 fps at 19x12 al high in crysis really good? am i missing something? the review posted by a magazine said the GTX 280 would run crysis at the same configs at 34 fps?
Review posted in the magazine is a load of crap, GTX 280 will be twice as fast as HD4850 at that res ( if not more )...
Yup, fxvideocards is relatively new on the gpu scene but very excellent deals in general from a reputable vendor. And they were cool enough to provide Jim with this 4850 review sample...
Why is the writing on the core upside down? lol...
TBH I think it looks pretty good, if this is really what the 4850 performs like then the 4870 and 4870X2's will definitely be better! :D

A good thread.... I supposed cat. overdrive is the only tools for OCing this card, at least for now?what about RBE, winflash, ATIflash? not work either? And does this card still has same shader clock as the core? thanx man
235 viewing Video Cards. NICE Jim ;)
Thanks buddy :D. This thread has been great so far. I just wish there was some way to clock up the card higher. I know it has lots more to give but the ccc lockdown at 700 is stopping me cold. DMM shows a little less than 1.2v under 3D load so even with just 1.35 like the 3870's this little puppy would fly.
I am searching the far east for overclocking utilities, my mandarin is a little rusty.
If I don't find one soon I will post up the 700mhz oc scores I have.
Now we just need some 9800GTX scores to compare these to.

9600gt sli/ HD3870 crossfire vs HD4850 benches please?
Ordering out of the UK back into the UK got me stung for 20% Import Tax. For price comparisons do try to stick to UK stockists for a fair comparison
What about ordering from USA to Europe? Is it safe? You can easily safe up to 20-30% :D
Dude, I live in Bosnia. Trust me, it worst... Here they take whatever they like. For example, my DDR2 that i my friend shipped my is just gone missing. I don't know what to do...
4850 these are going to be a nice option. introductory price of 250 aud...which i reckon means <200 bucks for a cheapy brand at some point in the future.
not to mention 3870's pricing...mm tasty pickings.
9800gtx vs 4850...hows that look? is it close in performance?
3d06 score makes me think 4850 is just an 8800gt.
...well, looking at yr crysis benches, the 4850 looks a bit better than my 8800gt with 4xAA@ high settings. ie 32 fps. ...and sub 20 fps with those settings on the gt i think @ 16x10. i remember that 16x12 @high in crysis XP was not playable for me with anything above 2xAA; more like 1280x1024 with 2xAA with gt for around 30fps.(21-35fps id say IIRC)
4850 vs 9800gtx vs 8800gt wood be interestink.
i hope the 4850 gets its arse tested off by the review sites.
Mark it as a 'review sample' and i've never had a problem...and yeah, USPS > UPS/FedEx/DHL
DHL = Drop it, Hide it, Lose it anyway :p
And yeah, tax rates in germany aren't the same as they are here (17.5% here as opposed to 19.6%) and the delivery cost would make up for any savings made on the purchase itself.
fxvideocards (the store that supplied the test card) has a Zotac 8800gts (G92) for $147 + S/H after $40MIR
in stock too! :D
After MIR my GTS was ~$220 shipped and included crysis, a game which I have yet to play :p:... Though the 4850 OC'd might very well best my GTS(802core/2003shader/2248mem -> game/stress/bench stable @ 75% fan speed), The performance increase will IMHO be negligible and require replacing the stock single slot cooler. So we're already talking ~$200 for the card + ~$30-$60 for a decent after market cooler.
The 4850 is best for the budget oriented performance gamer who has not already bought and enjoyed an 8800GT(S) or 3870. Though I hope the 4870 and 4870x2 offer much more in terms of real world FPS(DX9 included as all games I still play are Dx9). For 4870x2 I pray there's no bridge chip and the shared memory is indeed a reality.
Wow, It's funny how far you're willing to take this since most Nvidia users are busy trying to convince me that the 9800GX2 is a better buy than a GTX 280 because its much cheaper :)
The 4850 is a nex gen card, and its performance will improve lots over the next few months as drivers mature :)

In the review, I didn't see a 3DMark06 score, only 3DMark Vantage. I only ask since it is an easy way to compare to cards that have already been reviewed or to cards that someone already owns, but doesn't have Crysis. Did I miss it or will it not be tested using 3DMark06?
Thanks,
Utnorris
Edit: NVM, I must be getting old since I missed it the first couple of times looking through the charts.
So where would this card be placed in relation to an 8800GT, 8800GTS & 9800GTX
http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/2610/06ce1.jpg
Thats an impressive score. I can't wait to see what the 4870 and 4870X2 can do.

Do you play Marks or GAMES? in games is real performance!!
you can't compare 3dmark scors across differnet platforms and come with any real conclusion
Anyways, new version of GPU-Z is out, can you get us a new shot jiimyz?
Granted, you cannot really compare one system that has a q6600 with another system that has a q9300, but you can still get some idea of whether or not the claims that have been made that these new generation chips are going to be twice as good as the current generation. Since this is the first legit review that I have seen so far, I am trying to get an idea of how valid the claims of being twice as good really are. That's all.
Thanks,
Utnorris
So then the claim that the 4850 would be twice as good as the 3850 or the 4870 would be twice as good as the 3870 is not a valid claim, correct?
Utnorris
