heres a start to end of making the newest mount-
http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/a...er/cutting.jpg
I use the nice hitachi miter saw with a 60tooth dewalt blade- yes i have a horizontal bandsaw but the miter saw gets really nice 90 degree angles- however i wouldn't think of cutting copper or thick metal with this ( even with my high tooth blade)
http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/a...ithcaliper.jpg
hmm pretty accurate huh? 1.500" :)
http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/a...ber/onmill.jpg
Setting up on mill (x3 can handle up to 150lbs of accessories on the table- when im making lots of moutns at one time i have the rotary table off to the side and the 1-2-3 blocks and clamping setup.

1 done (IN ALL PICTURES YOU SEE NO DEBURRING HAS BEEN DONE- mine broke :( )

milling :)
http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/a...yber/3done.jpg
the 3 muffs are done :) lots of thought and design havee been going into my evaps and mountings in the past month or two, this is a lot closer to what i originally hoped then were i was at a couple months ago with my mountings. (4 hours on mounting that looked like crap... no thanks). maybe tonight but most likely 2maro ill finish up to tops do the mounts. These are mounts that will go with a first run of something i want to try- which i cannot say in public :p: )
Ill try to post more in action pictures next time- or you guys tell me what type of pictures you want.
reed
See now that I like.
thank you! :eleph:
Nice Job! They are almost as sexy as me! ;)
no pics but i had a large bar of hdpe and cut it on miter saw
http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/a...dmountings.jpg
and drilled it with my drilling jig
http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/a...rillingjig.jpg
which saves me hours
http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/a...ber/boring.jpg
Boring
http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/a...ber/finish.jpg
finish- not bad :)
http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/a...ishedmount.jpg
http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/a...hed3mounts.jpg
they are covered with oil and all dirty and not deburred- its midnight here not really in the mood to do that sorry. so please excuse that from the pics :)
Reed
Very nice. :)
Can you explain more about the drilling jig ? Is it for a hand drill / drill press or am I missing the point ?
Instead of spending 2 hours or so (literally) measuring and marking each hole, the insides are milled out to the exact dimensions of the mounting plate so i pop it in, turn it upside down and drill holes thought the jig :)
brazed her up today- These i don't want to send to customers unbrazed- extremely hard to braze these. My goal with these is a cheap, brazed, cleaned, leak tested stepper evap. I started working a while ago on a new chemical that is great for cleaning evaps :) i am close to perfecting it. absolutely no hints! :p: i will say that i was missing one of the main ingredients but still came out great. (well... 1 hint- c l h )
had to braze and flip it over 3 times to get it proper- the vice serves as a heatsink to the lower half, i can get the top half hot enough to braze without having the lower part melt and still get a really good quality braze.
http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/a...r/DSCN2467.jpg
Also this is the importance of purging- you see the outside of the evap, and the stem of the evap(innards)? well the entire insides gets that black cr*p all in it if you do'nt purge (and this is how the insides are supposed to look :) )
http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/a...r/DSCN2468.jpg

base not lapped yet. I made a oops and the muffs for these are too big.......... need a larger snap ring (or redo the muffs hopefully not -_- )
Reed
Is "Muffs" a engineering term ? What is a muff ?
no its slang term :p: just like donut-
there ya go
http://img382.imageshack.us/img382/6...evapzg3.th.jpg
thanks duh! partial credit goes to cpt. planet :)
walt- i fail- the part i labeled backplate i call the mounting plate... sorry. and you would be surprised with dictionaries- gullible is not even in the dictionary
btw at some point i want a tester for this- anybody who can give me quick-ish results please hope me a pm
I wouldn't use HCL though Teyber if your thinking that, your sandpapering via the roto sander is good though.
nope not using hcl either :P
edit- its a mix of about 6 chemicals
Then I think its rather odd your using it. :P
#1 rule, KISS>
haha, see how silver the top is? you can't really mechanically clean the top of a brazed evap well like that... plus the cracks and such are much better, pretty much i let i rough sand on my *insert secret evap cleaning machine* then soak it in the chemical for an hour or so then a quick sand using *secret* with some *secret* my house cleaner recommended me :)
edit- and the polished stubs :) all for show really -_-
Yep, ultra sonic cleaner, yep yep lots of em got em. Good secret :P
Chemical A is probably vinegar. Then probably using some either sanding compound or some crap. It looks good.
actually, no joke, i only used ultrasonic cleaner to clean after machining- it doesn't do a great job of removing oxidation. i may try to use my new chemical inside ultrasonic cleaner but too much volume :(
Looking good mate, top job with the pics! mmm....... need an evap for my little build lol Pity I am so far away!
ygpm :)
alright this update is for adam/nol. we got in a friendly argument about who brazes and cleans evap better. So i brazed this and i cleaned for 5 minutes-literally- i will finish it up later. this evap is going in naekuh's unit.

http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/a...r/DSCN2484.jpg
First- drugs needed to have the energy for this.
jk, its my super secret mix for cleaning evaps. 3 parts solid 2 parts liquid. As you can see here, the base and sides are cleaned SUPER well but the top part and the step is not at all. this is what the cleaning fluid is for- helps tremendously with this.
See how well brazed it is too? i didnt' even leak test it before i cleaned it :P
SO NOL- SHOW ME WHAT YOU GOT!
Very Nice Stuff Teyber !
Considering you have a belt sander and a mouse sander, you can think you have me beat, but we'll see.
Cause now I've got those too ;)
Plus that looks alot like flux and water, watch out if thats the combo, it'll super oxidize after.
I look forward to seeing some frost on that evap shortly Teyber! Quality work as usual mate! Cheers.
buckeye: thanks! btw i still owe you a phone call :p:
one_servant: thanks! won't be frost for a while. im re-doing the entire low side on his unit, pressure testing for a week while im on vacation, ill come back literally do a 24 hour vacuum and then we will see frost :)
noob(of leet) haha jk man :) - wrong! Ill say that this combonation is ALMOST safe to eat :) with one exception. by goly you would throw up it tastes so bad.
And its not the belt sander its the disc sander and finish it off with the belt sander, *PUBLIC* not a belt sander but a table sander. To get the even sanding you need the disc sander... to get the nicer finish you need the belt- followed by some chemical scrubbing then soak it in my special sauce :)
Ewwwwwww.... ;) :lol:Quote:
then soak it in my special sauce
Wait a tick... That evap the sleeve = OD. I thought you said you didnt have 1.5" OD pipe....
thanks allot teyber, i just received my evap/mounting. it looks great i shall take pics soon... im hoping i can get a unit up within the next few weeks if not this weekend... and again thanks...:yepp::p::):D:cool::rolleyes:;)
JB420
sweet :) sorry it took to long to ship. its summer i lost track of the days :p: went to ship on saturday lol.
Hope it didn't get too oxidized in the mail and i hope i didn't forget anything in package!
citric acid and vinegar.
Yo Reed, you ship my stuff per the deal?
I got a PM saying you don't have my address, but you do, it's with my paypal and I've pm'd it to you a dozen times.
i forgot it was with the paypal....
I cancelled a drive with my dad, who i won't see for o~ 1 week just to finish them. i woke up at 8 and worked on them until 3 non stop to realize that i made the 2 mounts for your chilly1 evaps 1/16" too big... and i didnt want to send them to you so i remade them. I had them done at 5:30 and was rushing to the post office to realize i didn't have your address...
Can you PM me your address, luckily i brought the box with me on vacation so as soon as i get to the destination i will ship it to you.
hope you understand- also to keep this thread from being moved to relations could you respond via pm?
regards
edit- btw i cleared my pm box recently
Yo no problem, you earned your bonus :)
Get off my leg! ;)
brazing the last design proved too much of a pita so went with a new design. ill be making the evap and brazing one in a couple of days so stay tuned :)

brazed pictures 2maro :) sorry for terrible quality pics btw... didn't notice it till i uploaded them :/
way to be blunt with it :/
my camera was on a different setting, its terrible for close up unless you have it on a certain setting and on vacation it was used on the long distance
My expensive camcorder is having problems :( it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. i have lots of orders so the next evap i make ill see how the camcorder is acting :)
btw start to finish would be multiple tapes, and hours to upload and my entire D drive :p:
reed
You look like your getting a lot of bit chatter while machining. Make sure your bits are sharp, depth of cut is not excessive for bit diameter and feed rate is not to fast.Copper is actually harder to machine than steel,it dulls bits fast & drags.
i too think its time to sharpen the HSS 1/2" dont ya think? :/ saves me a collet change as my slitting saw is 1/2". don't have to many 1/2" shank endmills- most of my high quality ones are 1/4" and 3/8" ones. i won't be lazy next time, i promise!
edit-
yeah copper is tricky. hard to get a good finish as i find it expands hugely with heat- i mean i can machine it and the copper towards the rear of the endmill is hotter and actually rises to the point where it digs the front in... jinu had the same problem for a while before he got a air gun
gotcha :) yeah ill see what i can do :)
and i thought you were serious :p:
ooooo them look purdy, hope to have one on my SS somtime :D. but question, why 3 holes? am i missing something here?
1 hole is for the cap tube, the other 2 holes are for the suction :)
gah! camcorder isn't working......
http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/a...h_DSCN2530.jpg
http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/a...h_DSCN2531.jpg
brazed and cleaned. the itty bitty kitty commitee took over sorry about that
Wow what an ugly kitten. jk
But seriously, im not gonna lie, that evap looks SUPER NICE.
Super clean man.
Dont you have a webcam or something lying around that you can record with?
no sorry i dont' :(... will a picture of every step suffice for now?
love the pic with the kitty!!!! i also like the taller/rounder top.. should have my unit up within next 2 weeks... or if i can find a good compressor(in-town) before then... just dieing to get one up..... :yepp::p::cool::rolleyes::D
thanks again for the evap..
JB420
hey!
the rounder top is a cap instead of a sleeve... a bit more costly but a bit easier to braze. thanks for the compliments :) let me know how the insulation works out for you... :)
steven- :p: i already started it with only 2 pics so far lol sorry. ill take more :)
me brazing up a evap-

(p.s. im not hugely fat in first pic i just am standing in a funny position... lol)
Pics of cleaned evap soon...
Teyber your torch is not set correct and its too far from the work.
BTW is that a welding helmet your using to braze with? I hope its the variable shade model.
Teyber do you know what a long haired HVAC tech becomes eventually........A short haired burn victim.
Also milling machines and lathes are very good at ("scalp-em's) rip the scalp right of your head, you can die from bleeding since there are so many blood vessels in your scalp.
He doesn't have long hair?
http://www.everaftercostumes.com/snood_carolyn2.jpg
I got one you can borrow teyber
 :ROTF: I think that's why they have the safety label 'Caution: Don't Stick Your Head Into The Spinning Shaft' ;)
I see you're still not using enough O2. :shakes:
Teyber your gas supplier will have demo torches, ask them to show you how to set the flame properly. should be 2 to 5 psi acet depending on tip size around no more than 8 to 12 psi o2 for light brazing.
Holding one of his Signed Limited Edition Evaps in my hand right now.
These are very nicely done, good quality with lots of attention to detail.
Great Job Teyber
oh yeah, get a hair cut LOL, sorry could not resist
hey!
hair is being cut today... whenever i use my mill i actually put my hair up (no joke) with what looks like a big rubber band, but made for hair. The welding mask is temporary... i use oxy/acet goggles but they are cheap, the band got so stretched out that i was brazing and they just fell off my head... closed my eye's and jacked up the o2 till the flame blew out, using this till i replace it. the welding mask has a ansi # 8 shield.
keep in mind the first pic is without oxygen... is that what you guys are referencing to? oxy is ~ 12 acet is ~ 6psig... When i braze the end of the flame is not blue... if i have more oxy it blows out. tips or is this normal?
cheers buckeye :)
No we are referring to the second pic. If you add more O2 and it blows out then your acetylene amount is wrong.
Turn the acetylene up until it stops producing soot. Then add the o2.
Oh and I don't use goggles with flame, only arc.
my dad is blind from the top left side of his vision. he has had a total of ~ 4-5 different eye surguries for 4-5 different things (cataracts, detached retina, et cetera). i love sight and hope i die far before i loose my sight. If wearing a pair of goggles or putting something on my head will help keep this from being true its far worth it to me...
walt you say 2-5psig... ill try using less...
cheers:up:
sweet looking stuff you got going on teyber
I have a funny feeling this evap might just be getting shipped to Australia;)
Good work matehttp://img26.exs.cx/img26/2245/thumbsup8de.gif
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZojIpKCo4TQ
good video to learn how to set your torch correctly, touches on carbon flames, neutral flames, ect.
http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/a...r/DSCN2681.jpg
my newest mount :)
Nice!
Teyber you are doing Great Work there.
Super nice Evap and now the mount, very, very nice !
Top shelf work!
thanks guys!
bill: cheers!
newest kit ships out tomorrow (btw snap ring is not on in the picture)

http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/a...r/DSCN2685.jpg
Looks good! Hope it works as well and don't worry.
Long hair or not, Fat or not. if it works it works
Hehehee... I don't wanna be a$$hole but they are exact copy of the evaps/enclosures i was using the last 4 years!
I dont have problem as i am not building units anymore and all the credits should go to eleven for the original design,
but you know it is a little bit weird.... Anyway, good luck!
http://www.myfreezepack.com/index.ph...c=detail&id=90
!
i had never even seen those mounts!
Well yes, those are the exact same thing! all credit to you, im not like that... if i had seen them i would have given ya total credit or not done them!
No not being an arse at all id have the same thought as you if i saw this. they are even rounded off a little bit... wtf!
man ill thi nk of something
Chilly1 and Fugger had the original design. All others stemed from it afaik.
BTW - this is a combination gpu and cpu package
It does look nice. Where can I buy one.
ron- i more mean just the overal design of the mounting plate. im a honest guy and TBH i don't think its copying just because its 2 part. mine also doesn't use a cap but uses a machined block of high density polyethylene.
lu523: hope me a pm :)
cheers
PM sent.
Anybody making kits for 1366 socket with a 775 evap fit?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...x/jokerdm1.gif
A big part of the design of an evap is determined by the cpu and motherboard design, insulation issues and fabrication limitations.
Since we all use it for cpu cooling, use similar insulation and fabrication methods, a lot of evaps look the same. So it's not copying, it's just only so much that you can vary in your design.
Teyber, your evap is definitly looking nicely!
A clean and professional look :)
OOOO i want one! seriously good job mate
jack: thanks so much! i really appreciate the kind words :) where in the nederlands are you from?
lha: :)
I ordered some muffs and hold downs from duniek today. sure a lot cheaper then the ~ $1,500 i would need to convert my mill to cnc hehe.
Also cleaned a evap on a unit im making- and played with the lighting.
http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/a...ber/evap-2.jpg
Is it me or does that cut/channel look a bit wavy? Lighting experiment?
looks good keep it up
