no it doesnt!! send it to me !
lololol
just kiddin, good luck on that (and on the whisky)
Wow, the fusion has way to much restriction for my D5 pump. I already knew that it was restrictive but, when I attempted to blow into it and notice the amount of force required to get air exit the other barb I was concerned. My concerns were verified when I installed my loop. My pump began making a noise I never heard before and that worried me. The force of the water exiting the loop into the res was far lower then normal, to low for my liking. In a nutshell if you don't find a SE I wouldn't be worried. Put a fan on the N/S bridge and call it a day IMO. Or, use all 3/8" ID tubing (I had 1/2" ID tubing).
Here are my C2D settings with 450x8 and ram at 1200mhz. Tested over night, stable. For the first post perhaps:

Added to the main post, eSp!s0. :)
I`m so proud and happy with working 400strap :bravo:
:D
I just got some trouble here.
Was about to reboot and the computer rebooted, but then it said CPU INIT.
Tried to clear cmos, put battery out for 15min.
I took the motherboard out too and checked everything.
Will try with a different cpu tomorrow...
I got this board with 4B Crucial Ballistix DDR2-800, can I start out with 3.0Ghz first and work all the way up to 3.6Ghz? I'm currently using 0602 btw. Any advices are welcome and appreciated. :)
good luck I'm testing my setup as I type this. so far I'm on 1.52V and not even stable . I'm trying to get it to 3.6ghz. I get frustrated easy so I've actually been trying for about a week now . all together about 8hrs for 3.6ghz :shakes:
I fianlly got 3.6GHz stable again on the 8 multi thanks to nuckin_futs.
Now to get bios 903 to run my setup
Anyone? Guide for 3.0Ghz?
3.0?
375 x 8... leave everything else on auto. 3GHz shouldn't be a problem at all.
1. What are your temps? If 64c scares you, you might as well stop trying to get to 3.6Ghz unless you're planning to go chilled liquid or something. A few days ago, I saw 100c on my quad when the loop kinked. So these CPUs can take a lot of heat into the high 80s.
2. Are those 4x1 rams your running capable of the speeds your pushing them? 4 sticks = plenty volts on the NB. You could try two sticks first, then 4 to eliminate that problem as a factor in your poor overclocks.
3. What are your settings?
Here is what I remember from my settings
FSB=400
Multiplier=9
FSB Strap=400
CPU Voltage=1.4-1.5 it boots up everytime but crashes occt
my temps at 1.4 are around 58-65c depending on the cpu voltage
ddr2800 is what I set it at
the voltage for the ram is set at 2.0
I can't remember what I put on the northbridge.
now for my setup, should I try the FSB strap at 400?? I am stable right now already at 4ghz (10x400) with my setup now.
look at my sig, sorry I just updated it.
I thought you had a different cpu
With 0903 bios those 0.5 multis do´nt work.
I picked/ordered this board with Ultima-90 and OCZ reaper memory (2 x 2gb). Is there enough space around the cpu socket so that the ultima-90 wont touch the memories ?
Having problems getting over 3.3 Ghz stable on my Q6600 G0.
Does 3.33Ghz at 1.3v 415*8 rock solid.
Would like to get 3.6ghz tried 400*9 and I can't seem to stabilise it. Tried all the way up to 1.4v on vcore can get in to windows but Prime95 bluesceens vista after a 5 or so loops.
Seems 3.3 is my sweetspot as the VID for my CPU is 1.3. Guess I got a duff one.
Bios 903.
Any advice?
Unless you got a bloody good CPU you'll need more than 1.4v for 3.6GHz. Stick it to 1.5v and once it passes a few hours of prime small ffts, lower it a notch (1.485v?) and try again, repeat until it becomes too unstable, bump the voltage up one notch and retest. It should now be stable.
Cheers Kup will give it a shot.
Any advice on CPuPLL? Currently using 1.5v
AWESOME THREAD!
I have one of these on the way along with a e6750. My last o/c endeavors were with an A64 so this will definately be neede.
Subscribed!
EDIT: Where is the generic Maximus Formula thread? Is it that monster 4k+ post thread?
It is indeed the monster 4k+ post thread. There is a link in the first post here!
kup I'm going to give 1.5V a shot tonight . I didn't want to go that high but screw it ! whats the worst that could happen :P
Cool. What cooling you got on that chip?
I wanted to update the bios yesterday to the 0903 version for the Maximus Formula SE, though it always gives Asus signature not found in EZ flash and aborts the flash...
Any ideas ? I'm currently on 0701 bios, maybe a newer version updates the EZ flash too... tried to the 0903 bios from the ftp and official site , same warning pffffffff
I did some overclocking with QX9770 and my Maximus:

I and one friend of mine made a little review of that CPU finnish language:
mato78.com QX9770 testissä
It really is damn hot CPU, at 24/7 clocks 10x420MHz and 1.45V Vcore temps are constant 72C when crunching QMC.
So what is the best (most stable) o/c BIOS so far? Are the 0901/2 worth it even though they are both in beta?
0903
Hey Bulldog, was that overclocking on air??
Check the very first post of this thread...
OMG. Im retarded. Thanks for your patience.
Im sure I will be in this thread a lot come friday when she is built. Im relaly hoping to get 3.8Ghz on air with Tuniq 120. :)
hey Jas, what part of MD do you live near??
Hi there guys,
I just picked up my maximus formula se, and have got my q6600 upto 3ghz with ease :) (1.3v)
Anyway, ive seen a lot of you are using 4gb crucial ballistix, i have 4gb as well (albeit 5300 edition) which worked amazing on my striker.
I was wondering how you got yours to work? myn will only work with everything on auto (so i get slack timings and only 667mhz) and even then its using 2.25v.
All other bios stuff is auto besides vcore and fsb, what should i try?
Many thanks
You have to up the NB voltage. 4 sticks stresses the mem controller and to make up for that you need to bump the NB volts.
well i put the boost thing to relax 3, does that sound ok?
Transaction Booster:
Ranges here are from 0-7 (0-3 are stated as usable in BIOS), with either the "Enabled" or "Disabled" setting. The 0 setting with either "Enabled" or "Disabled" selects the default tRD level for the NB strap and memory divider combination. The Enabled function lowers tRD (tRD -1) and/or tRD phases with each additional digit over 0, meaning an upward scale increase or boost is more aggressive with Transaction Booster set to Enabled. If using the 333 NB strap, set Transaction Booster to Disabled and use either 0 or 1 as the "Relax level" setting. When using the Relax setting range (Disabled Transaction Booster), using higher numbers will increase tRD (tRD +1) and tRD Phase adjust for lower overall performance, allowing access to higher FSB speeds. For quad-core overclocking the 400 NB strap performs best with Transaction Booster set to Enabled and 0 as the Boost Level setting - unless you're chasing higher FSB speeds at the expense of overall performance. Dual-core CPUs capable of high FSB speeds may use the "Relaxed" setting of 3 if outright FSB speed is the goal.
This is taken from anandtech, At the bottom it states you can use the relaxed setting of 3 is this DISABLED and 3 or ENABLED and 3?
Im getting poorer performance from 0903, and ive tried everything except for higher enabled levels as sometimes it wont post, i prob have to give soem more juice to get the same level which sucks, but as long as i get it i dont care, and i dont want to downgrade my bios as im worried of bricking it .l As i bricked my P5K Premium using ASUS UPDATE in windows.
what to do?
i might try a new OC tonight too and use 480X8 instead of 427X9
Thanks, well ive got myn disabled with relaxed on 3, with ram @ 1111mhz 5-5-5-15 2.2v. Would you recomend lower frequency for a lower transaction booster?
Thanks
Hey guys I got a Maximus on my way, I want to replace the stock heatpipe for a Thermalright HR05 IFX and for the SB a enzotech low profile copper block. But since I want to mount my TRUE Vertical, should I pick the regular IFX or the SLI? btw I am using a OCZ XTC cooler, but if thats in the way it could be replaced by a simple 80mm fan over it......Any one got this combination and can confirm it will fit?
Check the liquid cooling section, it has a few threads on cooling the maximus.
I am not going liquid.. the NB and SB just air.
anyone figured out the voltage problems yet? I've tested it, and It seems when i use dual-channel mode, It has problems. But When I use Single-channel mode everything runs smooth.
Just a few posts here on this board and I am a OC newbe but thought I
would post this and see what you guys think.
This is for a 3.6 Ghz OC with a QX6700
This is with the stock BIOS or 0401. I will update that in a bit after I finish
backing up everything. Not real sure which is a good working BIOS atm and
reading through these threads, 902,903 seem to give others problems and
hard to flash backwards. I think I have seen a few posts with 602 or 802
that seem to work fine.
I used the basic setup from the first post and worked from there. Using a
8x450 would not post for me, even up to CPU 1.5v. At that point I changed
to 9x400 and it went smooth. Ended up dropping to CPU 1.468v and that has
been stable all day.
So in the end I just wanted to give this BIOS a shot to see what it could do.
In Everest it shows the CPU temp, then the temps for all 4 cores which seem
to be higher temp's. Which are the correct temps ?
I will most likely not Prime this as I will update the BIOS and will do it then.
And Thanks a bunch for this updated thread !

has anyone worked out how to sort the high voltage on 4gb ram? its set to 2.1 on myn but i get 2.2...
i wonder wat does the EPU driver for in the driver cd? i never install it...does it bring any good? i still have cpu temp problem...seems like all my core at 62,62,59,59 and my cpu temp show in everest is at 66,65....is this a problem or wat? is like the temp is higher then the core for 3-4c
lol, ok well ill set it .1 lower :)
Whats the memory static thing do? sorry i keep forgetting the names, i never had them on my striker extreme.e.....
Also, im getting 65 degrees on my NB, is this too high? im going to try add it to my water loop later...
-------Edit------
This is the latest that i have got, not pushing too hard on the cpu until i get a new loop(s) for christmas....
What do you think of the NB voltage? I had just run memtest for 2 hours, so that is higher than normal....
http://img123.imageshack.us/img123/4862/mobobd0.jpg
yeah, 65*C is quite high... i believe anything over 47* or so is where you see instability issues, according to anandtech. i think i'm at 38-40*C underload. this is with the NB heatsink reseated and water added. i was at 53* before doing these two things. 1.54v fwiw.
Ok, please someone help me by answering this question: I have a Maximus formula coming here in a few days, and was wondering / hoping there is a fix for this CPU temp reading issue. I use coretemp for my cpu monitoring, so will this still affect coretemps readings? I would hate to have spend 249USD on this board, only to have it display way off temps LOL. Thank you
ya coretemp is fine...the only thing is not fine for me is the CPU temp i get either everest and speedfan always show 4c more then the cores...etc 1st core get 60c CPU temp show 64-65...i think it should be -3-4c rite?
Hmm not sure I installed the EPU driver, but the only driver/util I had a problem with in Vista 64bit from the CD was the AI Suite. It made Vista hang, so I removed it.
JH_man
Exellent thread. Getting my board on tuesday next week.
Wzp wuth the watercooling heatsink, if im not going to use water is active air recommended?
I`m thinking about buying aircoolers for my NB and SB.
My system is air only and I have the SE Formula. I don`t want to change to water. But my NB temps are a bit to high wirth stockpipe and air. I looked at the HR-05 series and want to knwo, if I can remove NB construction only or if the SB has to be removed, too and I have to buy an SB cooler, too?
I have a TRU120E vertically mounted with one 120mm on each side(front and back) and an 8800GTS(1.PCIe) with HR-03+ mounted downside and HR-11 between TRU120E and casebackside.
What HR-05 will fit there and what cooler for SB is good, if I would need it? They should be passiv.
i am getting water blocks soon for the whole motherboard, just a matter of waiting...
It's pretty clear that the Freezone is having a hard time at 3.6 with my setup. It also looks like I might need to reseat the CPU cooling block as temps seem float around a lot on each core.
Plus I still need to update the BIOS, just a bit unsure on which version to use atm. Some of you guys say 0903 and some say thats unstable and gives poor performance.
802 has proved to be the best for me.
I can hit up to 485x8
I dont use the 9 multi much, others have had great results with 903 but I have found it CRAP on a quad core, but thats just my 2 cents
dang, just got this board today with a G0 q6600 + ultima-90 with a 120mm fan @~2000rpm. but when I run prime95 some of the cores woop above 55, one is even high as 58 and 2 are around 48. Checking these temps with everest. How the hell do ppl keep theyr cpus idling below 30 and loading below 40-50 with the same heatsink..doesnt seem that much greater than from the stock ..
So is this some Bios fault? I havent updated the bios yet
I would like to build a Q6600 system based on Maximus Formula, but I live in a region where some memory brands are well known with all their models (Kingston, Geil, Kingmax), and some brands are totally unknown (Mushkin, Micron, Crucial for example). For this reason I have a hard time choosing the RAM for my new rig. Everything I know is that I will need 4 GB of RAM, and I will overclock my system a bit (to the level it's still quiet for a living room, using air cooling).
From the posts I read and from future proof reasons I really think I will need 2x2GB insted of 4x1GB sticks. Do you think is it the way to go?
If I go with 2x2GB, I have the following choise of RAM's.
OCZ XTC Gold
OCZ XTC Platinum
OCZ Vista Upgrade Edition
OCZ Reaper HPC
OCZ XTC Titanum
OCZ DDR2-1000: ReaperX (will be way too expensive)
Geil Black Dragon
Geil Black Dragon EVO ONE
Geil Ultra
Corsair TwinX DHX
Kingston KVR800D2N5K2
Patriot PDC24G6400ELK
Compustocx Overclocking CEC (German specialist company)
Kingmax, A-Data
At local prices, the OCZ XTC Titanium, Patriot, Kingston, Corsair are costing about the same (~290 USD), while Compustocx is cheaper by 30% and Geil, Kingmax, A-Data are half the price! Why does OCZ have so many models, is it because they have really big experience with 2x2GB models, or it's just marketing and they are labeling the same PCB-s and chips differently (Vista and Crysis RAM sounds like this...). What would you choose considering the price differences I wrote? Stability is important since I would like to work on that machine too.
Coretemp will give you somewhat of an acurate reading
there are some bios issues temp wise atm
Asus has been spitting bios's out like cheap 2 dollar whore's so they might eventually get it right.
so has anybody actually had success back flashing with the utility on the first page? i sure as hell haven't. i also tride different methods of afudos but i can't figure out a way to have the all the files i need on the disk... usb didn't work nor did cd.
so what bios should I take;)
I've had success, so has Grnfinger and a few others from the first thread.
Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, it's my first post here,
anyway I am just about ready to buy this board (or possibly a maximus extreme) but i ran across this statement on bit-tech's review of the Formula and Extreme under the "Stability" heading
here: http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/200...and_extreme/15
[qoute]
"The Formula was far less reliable (than the extreme)- twice, within a couple of hours of starting, the PC had either rebooted or crashed 3DMark06. We tried a complete OS reinstall and used a dual-core CPU instead of quad-core, but the result was the same. Even though it had been stable throughout testing, it certainly was not happy under extended load."
Anyone experience this under exended load with their board or is it just an isolated incident with Bit-Tech's particular board.
thanx=)
Hi, wears out  Actually I've managed to increase my overclock since sorting out my cooling. I think that bit-tech had other issues as the motherboards are more or less exactly the same the only difference being is in the use of DDR3, that might be a clue to bit-techs issues..
Chris
This board does not "wear out" too fast. Perhaps that was a joke? Tough to tell when reading text. Mine has actually gotten better now that 0903 came about and I invested some time. 506*8 with 1.54v, 4x1GB RAM @ DDR2 1215 - 5-5-5-15 with 2.25v, NB @ 1.63v - load temp 35°C on water, 12 hours stable under OCCT RAM, OCCT "Blend" (slider in the middle), OCCT CPU, Prime95, and 3dmark06 looping. I just got COD4 and Crysis for my birthday and have been playing them for hours (usually 3-4) at a time with 0 reboots, lockups, or BSODs. The board is of solid construction with a decent layout. It is however not Quad friendly with the older quads. Apparently the new Quads coming out play quite well with this board. I may snag one after the first of the year. sdumper was getting nice results with his.
I guess what I am saying is this:
People are blaming this board for a lot of issues they are having. Some may be caused by the board, but I think others are related to other issues. Issues like tired CPUs (migration is a b*tch), tired RAM, or possibly user error. I agree there may be a few of you with boards that are wearing out. I mean look at the voltages we had to apply with the first BIOS's that came out. In that case, I would RMA, get a fresh board, and try again.
My board has also improved. Becoming much more stable over time, allowing me to increase both CPU and FSB clocks...
today my Maximus Formula non-SE arrived. but it was the 1.02g revision :shocked:Quote:
Board Revisions
There are 2 known revisions of the Maximus Formula, the Special Edition, or SE, is the 1.02g revision, and the Non-SE version is the 1.03g revision. This is the only known difference, just a revision change to signify the difference in the package.
so the info which is the quote and first post concur.
changed also to AS5 under the heatsink to SB and NB.
edit: which BIOS is recommended at the time ?
How strange!
I'll leave it as is in the first post until I get a few more people report the same thing.
I'd go straight to bios 0903 as it does seem to be best for the majority of users now.
Is it true that 1:1 setting would make a more stable system, which is better for 24/7 usage and 3D workstations? Or the saying that better go with 2x2 GB RAM than 4x1?
Kup, I am just before TwinX 4096 DHX, would you suggest it for an overclocked workstation system?
Well 2x2 would be easier to get stable then 4x1 and 1:1 should be the rule of a tumb to test a CPU overclock at first then work up the dividers, so u can outrule the cpu for instability and have a look at your RAM settings.
But for 1:1 I would need a 1066 or faster RAM, which is expensive to get in 2 GB sticks. What would you do?
what 1066 for 1;1? thats an fsb of 533, which is pretty much impossible...
How about Gskill PC8000 4 gig kit sells here in germany for around 130 euro's mate about 180 dollars; will be fine for FSB up too 500FSB easily and with a tiny bit more voltage they 1066 too...
@Technokid 500+ FSB is not rare , with quads yes (most users get around 460-475 FSB) but with dual cores easy to do if ya got good hardware...
and cooling
even so, a 533 fsb is a lot...
hmm, have my q6600@3.0ghz(333x9), vcore:1.2v.
have prim95 running now, the temps are worrying.
celsius
core1: 68
core2: 63
core3: 58
core4: 57
latest bios.
Heatsink: Thermalright Ultima-90 + Adda 92mm (1500rpm).
no point for me to increase the vcore anymore, dont want to cross that 70 border..
Something is a miss with ya mounting prolly, the fan is running full speed ?, too much paste ?
Just for comparison :
OCZ vendetta with Q6600@3ghz (fan at 1200RPM) max temps under prime for all cores 58°C
Thermalright Ultra 120 with Papst GL fan : 51°C max coretemp under prime 95
Plz remount ya cooler it has to give ya better temps than that !!
thing is, even with the screws fully down u can slightly rotate the cooler, its not firmly attached
using everest ultimate to check these temps.
are those temp bad for the core? I think I read that one shouldnt press the core above 75'C
Why everybody wants to use bios 0903? I have 0602 and it's perfect. Is there any benefit for a Q6600??? I've tried it and couldn't boot past 3.0Ghz!
well, I reattached the heatsink, took away the old as5, put on new. they idle around 43/40/33/37 (core 1,2,3,4). seems like the temps didnt improve even the slightest
could it be my fan?
92mm
28cfm
1500rpm
hmm they still load at the same temps,, annoying.., room temp ~23'C, open case
the heatsink is pretty firmly attached now too..
ok now one of the cores hit 74'C. what is this .............. had to stop prime
25CFM isn't that great man, most 120mm fans blow more than twice air then your fan shifts...at a reasonable Db
I would look for a beefier model and I thought you could mount a 120mm fan onto the 90 series not ?
This one I mounted on some coolers is pretty inaudible too...
