Those are some beautiful numbers with the ST
But as others have said.. even if you dont post any pictures, can you
at least tell us what the set-up includes?

Is CPU producing an error? shouldn't It be LGA 771 not 775?
Wow. 5 ghz is close i can feel it..
[QUOTE=JAG87;2626732]Movieman you missed my point my friend. Skulltrail is not the top, its something beyond the top, which will only be available in limited quantity, because fortunately there are only a handful of people stupid enough to buy it.
Answer: = Ever been to a ball game? Ok, this is the front row seat. The average fan couldn't be blackmailed into paying for that seat. Yes, it is limited quantity and only a few can afford to see the game from that vantage point. Oh, and the game lasts what? a few hours? Nice way to spend $5,000.00. Going with your analogy, all those people are stupid for paying for premium. Econ. 101: Premium = Expensive. Get it?
Its one of those elite things that you will pay twice as much as it should cost, and will lose value much faster than anything else.
Answer = I remember when I shelled out $2,400.00 for a P4 2.2 Ghz processor system from Dell. That's just the way things are. As in above.
So my point is that its not the top, its something in its own class, the class of retards with way too much money and way too little brains.
Answer So because you can't afford it, everyone who does is stupid? You probably think the same of the front row seat, don't ya?
Dont take any offense in this, I know you can get a bit defensive about skulltrail (you and your multicore... you should see a psychiatrist), but just pause and think about it. I have no problem with people buying QX chips, or spending 800 dollars on a kit of ram, or buying 2x the latest and greatest video cards, and so on. Those things always have resale value, and dont become expensive paperweights. But Skulltrail is one of those things that will cost you boats of money, and will end up in the gutter just like Quad FX.
Answer Too many contradictions, will pass on this one.
Now how many of you fellas would get a skulltrail if you CAN afford it? See? That's where the whole point to this thing is really. I know if I could afford it, I would be out there bugging someone at Intel to put me on the order list. :D
Ahh so this is where all the Skulltrail heads are hanging out at. This news is insane! I knew this forum would bring the heat once again. Gotta save up for this one though, and hope it will dominate long enough to be worth it. Must see more results!
IF I could afford it I would buy it in a heartbeat.
Is it a reasonable investment? Probably not.
Is it bleeding edge, makes even my old 55 year old plumbing tingle?
You bet your backside it does!:D
Skulltrail hell yeah I'm there!!!
How does skulltrail deals with multiple VGA's ? Supports SLI ? Anyone care to enlighten me ? Thanks !
I wonder who sells them?
Thanks for the heads up !
Please dont show me tri-sli + OC'ed quads scores.... my head may blow up.
I would get it (a regular dualie, that is) but I don't know what to use it for...
PS3's cant do WCG.
yeah whats the point in this system?
great you'll bethe few able to play crysis in dx10 with a good fps. but then you'll get bored of crysis. and want you thousands of pounds back.
Going fast.
hey guys that are worried about the price, u can still pick up a q9450 and overclock that. it would be like half the performance for 1/10th the price.
For private use, I guess it would be great for HD content encoding.
I hope the tools for that support multithreading regulary now. If not then you get my point on the other thread why I said that hardware monoploly for a while would be a good thing cause it would let software catch up.
You could you build a virtualization server with this and use its power for all the PC's in the house, right?
That would require a new way of thinking in my house.
hopefully we will start seeing more boards like skulltrail ...
monster oc'ing dual socket mid lowend boards would be great .
every time i see a skulltrail thread , it has very little to do with benchies . where's the pics and scores of tri sli and ln2 oc's of 6ghz .
i told myself no more spending $300+ dollars on a board when i can oc just as good with a $200 board , but with boards like this comeing out i might have to break my own rule .
bios screenies pleeeeeeeeeeease ....
I like dual socket boards for some reason. There's just something about them...
can i get a dual socket 775 with ddr2 please ... to go
No, but you can get a dual socket 771 with DDR2..:D

Here, look at this: Tigertown..4 Quads..and don't ask the price..
It'll scare you..

Here's the board:

The "cheap" chips for it are just around $1400.00 each
The top ones are "I can buy a pretty decent car for this" type of money.
Then you NEED 16 sticks of memory..
Yea, close to $1600.00 for the memory for the minimum..
We priced one out a few weeks ago for laughs.
Top shelf your looking at $12-13K
Now about SkullTrail being expensive??
Oh, PSU: They make a special one for it..1200a..I think it's 120a on the +12 line..
"only"
Come here so I can slap you!:ROTF:
Price out some of the Sun ultra high powered servers

Finally, some news of skulltrail. Tri SLI support ist the best news I heard this year, at last we can build SLI systems w/o using crappy nv chipsets :)
But... do you really need QX CPUs?
Top it all off with

I'm a total noob, can someone explain what Skulltrail is? I thought it was a dual CPU platform (for gaming???)
Is Fugger using 1 or 2 penryns?
Now let's remove FBDIMM part and we got a top notch system :D
amazingly fast speeds!
Great, thanks for clearing that up folks. Now only "problem" remaining is the use of FB-DIMMs. They don't clock well...
Now, here`s me, a little guy dreaming of a time of new "BP6" (still brings back memories of building the beast with 2x300Mhz celerons@ 2x450Mhz). Now can some manyfacturer please make us all a cheap dual socket that can take cheap memory/cheap quads and OC like a bat out of hell? Is it really too much to ask? ;)
i have no need for FB-dimms :) regular ddr2 would be nice thankyouverymuch
There are cheaper 5000x mobos from Tyan, but I don't think 5000x support Harpertown...
Cheapest 5400 is $409.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813151100
I mean the useless crap on server boards, like PCI-X slots (I haven't ever seen anything useful utilizing those ) Also the boot up diagnostic thing that server boards have that slow down boot up a little.
I would like some SAS ports on SkullTrail though :D
It would make sense that Harpertowns work on the 5000x chipset (at least the 1333 mhz Xeons should be supported) since it's still an LGA771 CPU but I read a post somewhere that stated you couldn't.
Do you have a link on that? I'd love if the 5000x series was supported because they're 1/2 the price of the 5400 series motherboards (and like 1/4 the price of the Skulltrail system :ROTF: ).
That system is my new system as soon as it comes out...I just hope it arrives soon.:)
And cost is totally irrelevant for something that powerful...;)
less talk more clock!!!
I'm sending Intel an e-mail with this link. I've also bugged my brother-in-law, who works for Intel.
They've got to understand that the market for Skull Trail is bigger than they think... but their strategy may be to create artificial short supply conditions to hype up the product.
I feel upset that the Skull Trail mobo will not be widely available to the mass market before it gets to oems like Voodoo and Falcon NW.
if you look at the supermicro boards they claim compatibility with the complete 45nm 1333 fsb line up.
tyan on the opposite claims their 5000 chipset based boards are only compatible to the only 1066 dual core 45nm xeon, but not the 1333 fsb dual / quad ones.
so its basically a case by case thing, on some boards they will work, on some they wont.
There are 2 rumors, 1 is a limited editon board, the other is that it will not be limited but full production but limited access as it will be available from intel only ( and select oems ).
I just hope they will be making enough that I can get one for about $5-600 usd, it works and oc's in bios reasonably easily with regular harper towns ( 5430, 5440 ) and they add some more options ( sas card optons? ) both for the work station crowd, the mega ocers, people who just have cash to burn etc.
I'm not finding a lot of info about skull trail on google
But it support 771 and 775 ?
So Wolfdale and Yorksfield ?
nvm
On the screenshot (fist post of this topic) you see a C2Q Yorksfield QX9650 775 :s
