hmpf, with the fsb at 333 and memory at auto (yeah, that won't work) i get the 3 beeps - indicating a memory conf error.
same fsb, and using your memory settings (as close as possible to 1066MHz - using the latencies of my RAMs) my system won't post - screen just stays black.
I wonder what's wrong :confused:

Greetings >gtj< - I'm interested in this new board - my understanding was boards based on this chipset weren't out until January (or maybe that's just the 45nm CPUs i'm thinking of).
Anyway I've been a lurker/fan for about a year; have bought several D975XBX2's over time based on your threads. Whenever I've bought a new board for a friend and forgotten overclock settings I just google-searched any one of the machine-names in your sig I could remember since you have all the settings spelled out and I could just plug them in to the bios! To be honest though I haven't done much D975XBX2 tinkering since getting an EVGA 680i board + 2x 8800GTX's about 6 or 7 months ago.
However with this new Intel board has my interest is back.
In trying to determine a cost/benefit buying into this board (biggest hit being DDR3 mem cost) it occurs that I'm not sure what real world usage or apps will benefit from the greater memory speed other than 3d or video transcoding. I may still buy in for no reason other than to serve as a tinker toy. I've been buying Intel branded boards for 15 years now when stability was needed for a new client/friend build and one thing I do know is the first 1-6 months of a new generation of Intel-branded board are *always* rough in terms of bugginess!
Anyway thanks for the great work and interesting threads and I'm sure there are others like me that have lurked in silence yet appreciated your postings and gained much knowledge.

So far seems prime95 stable.
333Mhz ref /1333Mhz mem cannot boot, have to use 400 strap.
Thanks! Glad I could help. I agree with the "1-6 months" point. I'm not sure I'd recommend this board just yet. Although it's been running stable, getting there takes a lot of time. Right now for instance, a specific sequence of events has to happen to get the board to boot from a cold power off state, but once it does, it's stable as a rock.Quote:

Yeah, EIST always enabled even I disable it in maintenance mode. This board need bios update.
Are you sure it's EIST? If you're seeing your multiplier changing, it could also be C1E for which there is no option in BIOS. You'll have to change it using RMClock or Everest, etc.

Hows the FSB on BoneTrail? Im kinda bummed that the Q9450/9550 have an 8/8.5x respectively, and that you can only get 9x/unlocked by droppin a grand which is not what I am in the market to do atm (anyone got an idea on the reasoning behind intel taking 9x from 300-500$ processors?)

nah, i just went straight to 333 (all voltages at default - even vcore) - but at 345/356 i started getting orthos errors, so i upped the v to 1.35 (from 1.325)
im pretty sure the majority of the q6600s do 333 with default voltages :)

Using a Zalman 9700 and I'm very pleased with the temps. Doesn't seem to break 38C @ load. Ran Passmark Burnin for quite some time and ran the machine through the ringers on Crysis and everything seems stable.
I had tried pushing 400FSB, but it hosed my Vista. I hated to push the memory up to 1.8, but it's stable, and under warranty.
Any suggestions ?

so, the bios says the memory speed is 1333 with cpu set to 340, ref mem set to 400 and ram speed set to 1066. then cpuz says ram is running at 454? wtf...i so want to throw this thing through a wall.

sometimes it will push marginally stable settings over the edge and make them completely unstable. In general it's best to have it off while searching for your goal, and then turn it back on when your at your 24/7 speed. Of course if you are using the board for benching an not as a daily runner, then it's completely useless.Quote:

Bugs I found:
1. vCore setting don't work, change vcore to 1.350v, vccp alway shows 1.148v in hardware monitor. Seems vcore locked at default value.
2. Board won't do cold boot at 400 ref./1600 Mem at fsb 400MHz. I have to boot it at 400ref./1066MHz memory, then change to 400 ref./1600MHz. Once it boots, the board rock stable in windows.
3. Multiple higher than default value won't work. For my QX9650, multiple 8&9 works, change multiple to 10, bios shows 4GHz, but cpu-z shows 3.6GHz. My QX9650 should have multiple unlocked.
Will test more.
gtj, which software are you using to monitor temp. voltage in windows? I'm using everest ultimate 4.20.1197. Thanks.

Well this kinda sucks. One of the OCZ sticks developed bad errors and during the investigation I realized that although the sticks are labeled DDR3-1800, they're really DDR3-1333. So I'm stuck with one operating stick and that one is sub-standard.
I guess I'm on hold while I sort this out.

Weird thing is i can play COD4, and Crysis @ full everything, and it never skips a beet, but if i run (Vista performance index), it will crash windows explorer everytime! Try to remove a program, random windows explorer crash!
Am I the only one? Maybee a bad board, but why only WINDOWS components crash?

Here's a new one, I seem to have lost my IDE port on this board. I have one Plextor SATA burner, then I have another IDE Liteon DVD Burner. I know it was there a week ago when I copied Frosty the Snowman for my boys.
I have 2 150GB Raptors on 0 and 1, a Maxtor 250 SATA on 2 and the Plextor Burner on 3. The I had the IDE DVD as master on the IDE. I looked at about every option in the bios, and everything looks correct. I didn't have to do anything to get it working when I first put this thing together.

Well, I'm back in business (actually I was never out of business). After talking with the guys at OCZ and playing around some more I now realize just how sensitive DDR3 memory is to voltage and timing. On the XBX2's I'd just give the memory a little more voltage and loosen the timings a bit when I wanted to eliminate the memory from a troubleshooting process. YOU CAN'T DO THAT WITH DDR3!! The chips are very sensitive to overvoltage and loose timings. What will run perfectly at 1.86v will throw errors at 1.90v and 1.82v. Same for timings. If you set them too loose for the speed they're running at, you get the same errors. That was what was happening to me.Quote:

GTJ, you are truly the man, i aprreciate the help! But, it still shows 9x. It is not jumping around like a Yo-yo, but it is not going to the multiplier specified. Funny thing is, in Intel desktop control panel it shows the multi set @ 11. But EVERYTHING else (besides bios) shows 9x @ 3100. My memory is running at 1381 (corsair 1333).
Multiplier has a Definatle a BIOS bug, FYI Everest still shows EIST enabled. In bios it is set to disabled. Also, if i reboot C1E re-enables itself.
I think asus has a jump on them this time, not to say P5E3 does not have problems, but it did run my QX9650 @ (11x345) 3.8 with only 1.35v Easily.
Yes, all the multiplier higher than 9 don't work correctly on my QX9650. Waiting for new BIOS. :(
So the BIOS isn't actually setting the multiplier? That's a biggie. You guys should submit bug reports on it.

C1E is a processor register and will reset each time the processor is reset. Check this post for a windows driver that turns it off each time the systems id rebooted...

Got this board last Friday along with a QX9650, no matter what I set it BIOS it always boots up to the default, flashed to the 1308 BIOS, turned off the watchdog timer EIST is disabled. tried adjusting the FSB, mutli, voltage anything I change it just boots back to default, :shrug: Overclocking board yeah right:rofl:
Yep, Multi higher than 9 doesn't work correctly, no matter what value set in BIOS, vcore always lock at default value. But I can overclock my QX9650 to 400x9 at default vcore.

There is a new version of the Intel Desktop Control Center specifically for this board. I wouldn't exactly call it extreme but it does let you change the same performance settings as the BIOS.
Do you actually have IDCC v2 beta running? I have a clean install of Vista 32-bit, and everytime I go to run it on this board, the splash screen just fades away, the task is still running, and nothing comes up. It stinks because I use this to control my various PWM fans throughout the case.

I've shut off every boot option I can think of in the BIOS except boot to optical drives.
If there's actually a CD or DVD in the drive, the BIOS will spin a bit looking to see if it can boot it. Also if you routinely leave flash drive connected, make sure that "boot USB devices first" is disabled.
Those are the only times I get the wait.
I found the IDCC issue. The service XTUService never starts. It says "Starting" but never gets to "Started". No idea how to fix it.
Nope, no CDs in the drives. The only flash type device are the slots in my HP printer, but there's nothing in them. I'll try disconnecting the printer.
Got my DX back in, running great. Same issues as the last as far as the memory settings go, but everything else is working again.

It leaves the pc running, and if i hard off, raid verify time ( i hate that $hit). I have tried restart and shutdown, same problem.
Did you reset your BIOS settings to default and reenter them? I had to do that to get a stable boot.
And Vista shutdown works OK for me.
