Cheers homolin:up:
these mobos are pretty freaking crazy lol
Performance Level = 3
700MHz 5-5-5-15 1T heh
http://img409.imageshack.us/img409/8...ipl3at3av4.png
but that's not the crazy part
the crazy part is in F2 bios on this mutant board (x48 rev1.0 PCB with X38 NB)
if you select 1.7v or 1.75v in bios check what the actual vcore is
all i can say is i feel very lucky i am using this little Cellery 460 for testing and this son of a :banana::banana::banana::banana: has survived 2v before :D
but WAIT there's more
have a look at the second screen

New X48T-DQ6 review:

i said this a few days ago to SuperShanks...dual cores are where the gain will be:

So, looks like Intel X48 chipset used for Gigabyte GA-X48T-DQ6 mainboard failed to improve quad-core CPU overclocking. You can get pretty much the same results for quad-core CPUs on older mainboards using Intel X38 or even Intel P35 chipsets.
I recently put together a system with X48-DQ6, and the heatsinks are just very very warm, even when lot loaded. It's slightly painful to touch them.
The CrazyCool has been remove to make room for a water cooling kit, which seems to work fine. I just don't understand why the heatsinks are so hot?
Anyone else experience this?
System temp in bios reads ~35 at idle (in BIOS)

ok, i see that you revised your post to drop the "T" from the bios version...obviously, it is for the DDR2 board.
Guys, hopefully you could help a Gigabyte newbie out here. I've just crossed over the the X48-DQ6 (DDR2) due to a coolant leak that took out my Maximus Formula.
I'm only just getting to grips with a new BIOS but at the moment am struggling to get anywhere near the performance out of this; I've managed to get my FSB up to 400MHz but my memory write / read / copy is down according to Sandra.
The BIOS is totally different to the 680i & ASUS incarnations so if any of you would feel generous enough to give me some pointers, post your BIOS settings or point me in the right direction for me to stop regretting buying this board I'd be a happy bunny. I just havent a clue at the moment
Thanks in advance; hopefully I'll get somewhere before my patience wears out & the board becomes an interesting looking door wedge.
haha adjust just vdimm and vcore and enable loadline.. the rest of the volts should do fine on its own :D
Hi,
The 7b Beta Bios is on the Gigabyte website http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/M...ProductID=2763
Regards
@GlowingBulb
This is from my X38 Dq6 9x400 Prime stable but should give you a starting point, getting to grips with the new bios. , The bios layout is the same for x38/x48 .
luck:)
@ SuperShanks
Cheers for the starter matey, I'll give them a go in a few minutes! As for the BIOS being the same for both X38 / X48, I'm pretty sure that they are, its just a big difference in how its presented between my old ASUS & this new Gigabyte
I guess there's a chance to shout RTFM at me; didnt realise there were hidden BIOS settings that can only be seen after a CTRL + F1
Yep that's why i thought my x38 settings would give you a head start :) It does take some getting used to at 1st , but it's worth it . Well at least in my experience with x38 & X48TQuote:

Just going to try GA-X48T-DQ6 F5c beta
luck:)
Doesn't do anything for me, was playing previously at 520x8@3.33D 1,733 7,7,7,12 benched great on F5A wouldn't post on F5C. Despite reflashing was getting some odd actions with the CPU Host clock comtrol. wouldn't stick on manual.Quote:

P45 is gonna punk y'all X48's :-)
Hi,
So far the x48 seems a step backwards compared to my Gigabyte p35c ... I assumed it would be simple enough to just use the BIOS settings from the p35c especially the memory settings but when I try the x48 just locks up ...
In memset (the pic shows the settings from my p35c) as soon as I change the performance level from 7 to 6 the board locks up, with the p35c the performance setting is set to extreme in the BIOS and the thing chugs along 24/7 ... I am going to wait for a a couple of bios updates which i hope will fix the performance probs and lockups before I try the board again
Performance level depends on the FSB, FSB Strap, RAM Divider, and 1-2 RAM 'timings'.
Also, I've noticed that X38/X48 has stricter chipset timings at a higher ( worse ) performance level compared to P35.
What I achieve with P35 @ PL6, is achieved with the X48 @ PL7... not just reached, but surpassed as well.
PL5 at the settings you're showing would require some high voltage for the MCH ( NB ) to be reached.
Unless you're taking part in seriously competitive benchmarking, then it's not worth the risk to give such voltages to the MCH.
Hi,
With the P35C all voltages are at default except for the vcore ...

nehalem is going to cream yorkfielsd we know that.
Is this just a jibe or have you something constructive to add that i've missed??
Did anyone experience very hot stock cooling with this board?
I recently installed X48-DQ6 in a friends computer, and even at stock settings, the heatsinks on NB and vreg etc godt very warm to touch, even at idle.
System temp didn't read more than 30-35 or so, as far as i remember, but still burning heatsinks.
Q9450, 9800GTX, Corsair TX750W, 2x2gb pc6400 corsair ram.
Anyone?
What airflow do you have?
watercooling on CPU.
80mm back
120mm back
80mm top
psu top
3x120mm front (radiator here)
but there is a space between the 3 front and the actual case, to prevent hot air from being blown into the case
So what airflow do you have actually directed at the NB?
well, none.
But that shouldn't be necessary either, since the board is not at all overclocked and the CPU doesn't emit much heat because of the water block.
I thought you meant general case airflow. I'd say that that is pretty decent.
I thought this was the whole point in silentpipe :P

How many people here flashed bios from within windows (@bios) or floppy drive, when do the mobo manufacturers start using USB stick recognition from within bios to use USB stick as a media?
Bios flashing within Windows using programs such as @BIOS is alot safer then it used to be, it's pretty solid these days....but, i always use the embedded BIOS system, Floppy is dead now...QFlash has been using USB drives for over a year now...it's very solid and fast.
I never use Floppy, a USB drive these days is very safe and consistent, i've flashed many times.
The cooling system is designed for a sytem that will be running a HSF on the CPU. The airflow from that radiates out across the cooling heatsinks. With water cooling you dont get that hence your heat problems.
X4er0.
all you need is to format your usb drive in FAT/Fat32 so it can be seen in dos, which can't access NTFS file system. Put the bios file on it & then flash from within bios. It's a breeze.
Realtek 889A codec drivers, version 1.91:
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...&GetDown=false
Good to know:)
Also no real problems with it either, so cant be all wrong.
and by the way..
The water cooling is thermaltake, came with the case. The backplate has some sticky pad under it, so it's stuck to the mobo, but we'd actually like to turn it ninety degrees (we didn't realise we could do this at the time:P), since it's making contact between two solderings on the backside of the board. We prevented contact by sticking some lil thin piece of plastic between the backplate and one of the solderings. But it's pretty much stuck, and we have no clue how to remove it without damaging the board.
Anyone?
The Jmicron controller burns to the touch also, i put a nice copper ramsink on that to chill it out, Newegg stock alot of copper ramsinks that do the job.

Ok, if anybody wants to use Qflash in combo with usbstick, FAt32 is a "no" go, must be simple FAT, so format in FAT otherwise mobo/ Qflash can't read the file.
New X48T-DQ6 review:

Didn't wind it up much although in fairness I've struggled with my Q6600 , both E8200 & E8400 run great but , Q6600 Go isn't prime stable at my normal 3.6k It seems to be down to GTLref , though the settings are identical to the x38 which rran the cpu up to 8x465 stable. Small FFts fail after at best 2 rounds , highest i've managed so far is 1hr 22min when core #3 failed using 9x380
I had to pull one of those backplates off the back of my friends MB. I used thermal compound remover to disolve the adheasive and a bit of hard prying, however the MB was going back for RMA so I have no clue if it worked after I took the backplate off, sorry.
One note, the Thermalright bolt thru kit use to have adheasive, but the one I got in the mail yesterday for my new build does not, makes it a bit harder to mount the HS, but at least it won't become stuck on the back of my MB anymore.
Think your right, flashed today & only USB drive seen. I have also have a small partition on a hd which i can use for the odd mobo that has issues with usb. Have just checked it' is formated as fat32. Qflash didn't see it but Abit IX38 Quad & Asus P5E3 did :shrug:Quote:

That bad huh?
Did it leave a lot of residue stuck on the mobo after you got the plate off? We're thinkin on using a zalman plastic frame that i have to spare, if we cant get the thermaltake one back on (i.e. if its get sticky or whatnot). I dont suppose another backplate will change anything about the cooling really, as long as it keeps it in palce.
My 256MB flash drives works perfect, seen as HDD3 in Q-Flash.
Has anybody removed the backplate on the mobo?
No..but it's supposed to be easy, GB have guides on there website.
- YesQuote:

New Problem fixing BIOSes would be a nice touch. This "beta" thingy is starting to annoy me. First video card drivers now mb BIOSes...
Okay, so with a lot of blowdrying and prying with plastic tireirons, we finally got it off. The metal that was in contact with the soldering, got so warm that it actually meltet this soldering a bit, which worried me. The adhesive in between the board and the bracket was not very heat conductive, so it was only at the places where it touched the solderings we had some serious heat issues. But well, the board worked fine after, and we replaced it with a plastic zalman 775 backplate, which is much much better. For some reason, the NB heatsink is no longer burning either, this could be because we added an 80mm fan (standing loose on graphicscard)... but its just SO much cooler, so I doubt that was the only reason.
Anyway its all good now. So word of advice:
DO NOT take off the protective film between adhesive and motherboard when mounting thermaltake watercooling. There is no advantage of this... unless you consider a permanent huge metal backplate an advantage.
What are the default volt. in BIOS ? I search the net but nothing found.

1.3 DQ6??...thought they were all Revision 1.1?, throw up a piccie if you can.
yup
my board is rev1.03 :D
My X48 DS4 will be here Wed, although I haven't any idea when I will have the time to install it (new home owner...).
Take a quick peek at the PCB Shawn and report if it's Revision 1.3 or not.
Not a problem. I'll open up the box and take a look as soon as it comes and post what it is.

OMG this board is crazy good
i'm very happy with mine from initial tests
i can bench my Corsairs (for the first time) in dual channel at 980MHz 8-7-7-20 1T on Intel chipset (32M SuperPi stable)
board is efficient and with some subzero cooling on MCH and high volts i should be able to bench PL-7 past 510Mhz and hopefully PL-6 close to 500 heh
did a quick 4.62GHz 32M run and got 9m59s >> pretty efficient compared to previous boards i tried
Asus P5E3 DLX is a touch more efficient though...so bit more work to do....will take it up with bios engineers to see what we can do
i am using official P4 bios ;)
i am extremely happy with this board :D

[EDIT-figured it out it was a PSU problem with X900 Seasonic...corsairs HX620 and HX1000 work fine]
i got some issues with my X48T-DQ6 and official F4 bios
every cold boot i had from previous day's (overnight) bench session would result in continuous power cycling and it's impossible to have the board boot....even if i leave stable settings the night before
this morning it took me 15 minutes to finally get the board to post >> very odd
once it does boot the first time it has no issues running...i can boot, shut down, reboot, turn it all off....let it sit for half an hour and no issues....but overnight causes it to go through constant startup/shutdown.....we are talking about half a second startups here lol
when it did i found F4H bios and flashed the board
cleared cmos, rebooted and went to windows at stock settings and shut the board down....i'll see what happens tonight
hopefully it was just bios related....otherwise i'll send it off for repairs
this board is pretty fast and clocks the ram much better to X38 Gigabyte boards i have
i can finally bench my Corsairs a hair away from 2GHz...980MHz 8-7-7-18 1T max 32M SuperPi stable so far
here is an entry i did for sub10m category in 32M challenge thread

Hi Dino,
that's tough m8,. Maybe is a bit of cmos corruption & hopefully you've cleared it I've had the odd failure on cold boot but not often to be an issue., have just put it down to borderline settings & pilot error :D
See 3rd link in Bios Section
I'm still running wqth F5A seems to be the best, for me anyways.
luck:)
F4H didn't do anything
i just flashed to F5a and will try again tomorrow morning :)

My trip got delayed a day and I was able to get the X48 DS4 installed this afternoon. I simply took out the X38 DS4 and put it in it's place. Smooth a butter. I don't have the time to properly push it, but I can say that it is running my QX9650 at 3.33ghz at stock voltage, as well as all 8 gig of the G-Skill without issue. When I get back I will push it, but so far so good.

OK kiddies, F5d beta for the X48T-DQ6:http://www.megaupload.com/?d=XJNQ887O
Hey guys.
I am facing weird issue with X48-DQ6.
I set it up with E8400 (Q807) + 4GB Gskill 4GBPQ + 6200TC for testing.
PSU is Tagan BZ800.
Now problem is with manual overclocking.
Whenever I modify CPU Host Clock control to ENABLE.
No matter what FSB value I set and what memory multiplier i use, the system. Once i save and pc goes to post, it reboots with default settings.
Even Default FSB 333 does not work if set manually.
CIA2 on other hand works like a charm with any divider and overclocks cpu
Tried AxeRam memory modules as well. Same there. So RAM issue ruled out.
Tried F6 as well as F7G beta.
Any clue what I am doing wrong?
Its not like I am new to ocing. But this is my first Gigabyte board in long time.
do this....set all your overclocking voltages up first...now save...go back in adjust the FSB and now save to see if that holds...i found at times if i tried to many changes at one time, on my "T" board, it would not save and then revert back to settings that would work.
