Yup, that's what I suspect myself. I wonder what happens to the power consumption of a vdroop modded IP35 Pro?
Guys is there any proof that Premium is better of Delux in terms of OC.
Did anyone changed his mb from deluxe to premium and noticed 20 mhz higher stable oc on CPU or mem or something ?
Also vdrop is that giving you any stability problem with deluxe ? Coz i can't see any advantage in fixing that anyway.
awaiting XtremeTiramisu's test results :)
I confirm, the Premium is better with the quad core. The pwm was really hot with the Deluxe. It's better with the new components on the premium
Seems like there are a lot of minute differences on the P5K Premiums depending on batch and factory.
The one on Newegg site has PCB made in Taiwan and MEC inductor beside the DIMM slots.
The one on the first page has all round RIO inductors.
I have two Premiums, one has RIO inductors all round but CPU area is 'brandless R68', and the second premium has a MEC inductor for the DIMMs but 'brandless R68' for the CPU area. Even the DIMM slot manufacturers are different for both boards! I'm getting a board with all 4 slots having the same kind of clips, while the other has differing pairs (like the one on the front page)!
I haven't come across any other brand that has so many differing components for the same revision number.
But I like the Premium, clocking my previously stubborn Crucial 10th Anniversary much better than my old board.
Got mine today, I will play with it over the weekend. My P5W DH was not playing nice with my Q6600 G0 so what better excuse?
I have an issue with the premium
when I set 4 4 4 12 2T in bios, load into XP and finally I have 4 5 5 15 ...
any suggestion ?
edit: found the problem, was memset :D
Still waiting to see some test results on the Premium from anyone that's got one ...
For those who gets occansionally si~si~ sound with the on board sound, use the P5B Premium Vista sound driver will fix, now it is fine :D
ordered 1 will be here wendesday with a q6600 go
Well, so far when you enable the Intel RAID Controller, the OC because VERY UNSTABLE. Anyone else expriencing the same?
Have had the board 2weeks now and using raid0 isnt giving me any problems its has stable has a rock!
What processor? Q6600?
I have 5 HDs, I will try with just one and see what happens.
Also, are you using 8 or 4 pin for the cpu?
Additional Comments:
Just to give you an example of what I mean I set the OC to 480x7 and set the SATA to RAID, as soon as you see the windows logo it crashes and reboots, but if I set the SATA to IDE everything is fine and dandy.
Check your PCIE frequency...Mine likes to bump up to 150 for some reason after tweaking settings in the BIOS occasionally and my drives set for AHCI but not RAID are not detected when that happens....
Y2J
so far, what defining aspects does the p5k-premium have over the p5k-deluxe?
So who's been able to successfully run RAID0 with Vista? Who has tried and failed?
Im running raid0 on one set of WD Raptors with Vista 64bit and raid0 on another set of WD Raptors with XP for a dual boot config.....no problems my end with Q6600 @ 3.6GHz - 9 x 400 fsb.
Am running raid 0 with vista 32bit fine! At 500x8
The Blitz Formula edition is touting 2-phase power for the dimms as opposed to the 1-phase on the P5K-DLX and BP. Seeing the great memory results on the BP so far, I wonder if the 2-phase on the Blitz is a great benefit or just overkill.
most likely overkill, but then again what forum is this?
http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/9...blepi32zv0.jpg
2,5 vDimm, seem Premium can do good OC :D
I just got my Black Pearl today and will be upgrading from the Asus P5W64 WS Pro. Do I have to reinstall Windows?
Okay, so has no one gotten it stable with RAID0 and Q6600?
Try uninstalling drivers for the existing board first, then install drivers for the new board, you may not need to re-install Windows.
Has anyone tried the new beta bios? 0302, dated 14th August 2007.
where that!
In Vista 64 on the Premium, I noticed some of the apps like coretemp and cpu-z would hang or take ages to load. Its completely stable, prime for 12hrs, memtest et al. It was a left over install from a Asus Blitz, so I thought i'd try a fresh install of Vista 64bit. Nightmare, it gets a few percent into copying files and just sits there, doing nothing. Tried Vista 32bit, same thing. XP Pro 32 bit, no problem goes straight in. And so far everything is as it should be, I had read this board didn't like Vista, but put it down to user error. Ive no idea whats going on , maybe its because I'm using an IDE CD-ROM on the Jmicron controller. I dunno, but some things not right.
EDIT: Spoke too soon. Fresh install of XP latest drivers, all new gear except for the CD-ROM. Spitting out timeout errors, when coping files.
"The device \Device\Ide\iaStor0 did not respond within the timeout period."
http://www.intel.com/support/chipset.../CS-025783.htm
EDIT2: This Premium board doesnt like my IDE DVDRW either, put in a Sata drive and imstalled Vista 64. Didnt take long for it to start hanging again. Somethings wrong with the Sata ports.
EDIT3: Meh, just about had it with this board. Different hard drive, memory DVDRW, cables. Spitting out ATAPI errors now. Definitely a problem with the way it handles SATA/IDE. Two top of the range boards from Asus, both faulty not impressed.
FWIW...I was using a P5K Deluxe and I set this Premium board up today and using the same HD as with the Deluxe I didn't have to reinstall any of the drivers. So far all benches and functionality are the same at the same settings.
Which bios did your board(s) ship with? 102 or 204?
I have another Asus board with the Sata1 port not working. This happened to my first Deluxe board and I had to RMA it as out of 6 only one would work. Right now it appears I have the same problem with this board. Also, it came loaded with the 204 bios which I think is a little soon in the game for these boards to have the latest bios installed. Frankly I am concerned the retailer has shipped me an open box item in lieu of a new retail board as the box itself looked like it had been opened and the date and time were already set. This is atypical with boards I have set up recently, or ever for that matter. I have been quite happy with this company's service and overall quality but I am just trying to figure out if something got mishandled with this deal.
I found the board is very picky about the SATA cable. It won't detect HD when I use low quality SATA cable. Use the one come with the motherboard, everything is fine now.
I got mine 3 weeks ago with the 204 bios here in The Netherlands.
I'm a first time builder, and I've chosen the Premium as my first board. I was wondering if anyone knows of a site that has a great explanation of each of the settings in the BIOS, not just recommended settings but what they do as well. The manual doesn't have enough information on somethings. Thanks.
I am going to try either the Asus Blitz Formula Special Edition or the premium , price aside which is going to give the best overclock
I've just bought this MB with an 6550 and Team Xtreem PC1066 5-5-5-12.
I've been having major issues with the X-FI Xtremeaudio. Ramdomly i have a loud squeal, that only goes away when i change the profile of the X-Fi. I'm running with the latest bios, and latests Asus Intel drivers and X-Fi drivers. I've tested in both PCI's slot's. My graphics is an EVGA 8800GTS 320 KO.
through these days benching.
p5k-p vs blitz vs p35-t2r
p5k is rock for higher cpu clk.
blitz is for crossfire + fsb
p35-t2r is for memory and extreme fsb
Has anyone tried 1T for memory.
Has anybody some news about a new bios?
I would like a new one that fix my problem with the X-Fi
I’m surprised no one has mentioned the poor placement of the SATA ports. I received my Asus P5K Premium last week. I think I used every profanity in the book when I went to install my Evga 8800 GTX KO. The video card resides right over most of the SATA ports.
Looks like either the Blitz Formula or the P5K WS are in my future plans.

The placement sucks, but i have no problem with it. The lack of bios support is worse.
Anyone here know if there are any serious issues with the P5K WS?
what bios is everyone running?
Bios support for this board suuuuuuuuuuux.
same with the P5K deluxe , for almost 2 months there are no bios updates for this board 2, I think Asus is 2 much busy with marketing and making to much boards, and dont got the "time" to optimize a bios for each board......
Also 0204.
I think 0204 is the latest one.
On asus foruns some people talk about bios 0302, still in beta. Asus is trying to fix the problems with RAID sata.
Here is the link: http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?...Language=en-us
Great news, but realy hope to see a quick public release.
I am having some problems with (overclocking) this board (apart from the SATA issue which means i cant use my AAKS with it!)
I cant seem to get past 360 FSB. It works fine at 360 whether with an 8 or 9 multiplier so i dont think its the Q6600 (G0). Its stable at 360 using 1.33V
Does anyone have any ideas? Also, silly question, but how do i run prim95 on all 4 cores? do i need to start 4 instances of it? if so, how on Vista 32?
Thanks,
DS
This works for all 4 cores, with 1 instance ftp://mersenne.org/gimps/P95V254.ZIP
nice1 thanks!
Anyone have any ideas why i hit a wall at 360 FSB no matter what the multi is? even at 6? Could it be the cpu or some dogy setting in the BIOS?
im on 104 until the next one comes. Have had no problems and 204 gives no reason to update yet.
Well, if they want repeat business they better hurry up. :)
Anyone else notice certain settings (like upping the northbridge voltage to 1.55 @ 266 strap), makes your pci-e link speed drop from 16X down to 1X?
The only fix I found was d*cking around with pci bus speeds, until it snapped back.
I like the board (other than everything to do with it's sata placement and raid support), but it definitely needs a bios update.
I didn't sign on to beta test hardware I paid for. :D
Hmm I just ordered one of these boards to replace my broken IP35 Pro (yes I broke it) and you guys are making me second guess myself, I figured my Q6600 GO would rock on this board because there is little to no vdroop.
I could run at 3.6Ghz on my IP35 Pro with little trouble but I had to crank the vcore up to 1.5v which gave me 1.40-1.41v under load which sucked, I am just looking for 3.6Ghz out of this board, guess I'll find out in 3 days.
0204 bios & QX6700, no matter how I set my multi and speed it wont come off of 267x6 wtf ?

So far my experiences with the P5K Premium are bad.
My rig: P5K Premium (2.04), Q6600, 4GB Corsair QuadX, XFX 8800GTS 640MB, 2 WD400 AAKS SATA.
The installation of Windows Vista Ultimate (32 bit, AHCI mode) went extremely slow. Unpacking of the files took about 2.5 hours. After 4 hours the installation was finished, apart from all the available updates.
I tried to install Vista with a minimal hardware configuration (LAN, HD Audio etc. disabled) 1 GB insted of 4 GB. I checked my harddrives with WD Digital Data Lifeguard Diagnostics (no errors) and I used Memtest86 to test my memory modules (no errors found). I installed the Microsoft patch that Asus recommends.
The installation of Windows XP Pro went fine and fast. This morning I tried to download the Medal of Honor: Airborne demo. After the download was finished Windows wanted to move the file from the temporary directory --> very slow and at nearly 80 percent this resulted in a BSOD and a reboot.
After the reboot the systeem was extremely laggy. Windows started up very slowly. Again I tried to download the Medal of Honor: Airborne demo. After finishing the download Windows tried to move te file --> also very slow (30 minutes predicted) en after a few minutes it stopped and freezed (the rest of the system was still responding).
I started HD Tach --> results: CPU Utilization 26%, average read and burst speed only 3.9MB.
I just updated my bios to version 0302 --> but no sata problems solved for me.
If someone wants to try bios 0302 just let me know.
Hey gosmeyer & Toeni, could you tell me where you bought the board. this is on my very short list and I'm just wondering if one the resalers got a bad batch, maybe? Not to be rude but if both of you got the board at the same place I'll buy somewhere else.
Well, I'm from the Netherlands and i bought my board from 4Launch.nl
Many users have similar problems with their P5K Premium --> Asus forum
I would avoid this board like the plague if you have a SATA2 drive. Go to the threads on the Asus forum to see what I am talking about. Asus are not saying a word and its looking more and more likely to be a hardware fault which IS NOT fixable via BIOS update. There is no UK support number only a website (what a joke!). I still cannot believe that this has passed quality control... I mean, did they not test this on a SATA2 drive? I just cannot believe that they even tested this to be honest. And another thing, how come none of the reviewers online have spotted this? Or is this a case of not wanting to upset Asus so they keep getting their free boards?
Anyway, im going to go and calm down now :).
I just read the whole thread at Asus and it is fubar. Guess I'll look harder at the Abit IP35 pro board and do the Vdroop mod, all the owners love the Abit board. All I have is Sata 2 drives. And IDE opticals, their not liking this board either. :<
I have 2 SATA II harddrives, they are seagate 7200.10, they are both working perfectly in SATA II AHCI or IDE mode (not RAID) in my rig.
Or I can later post some pictures to prove.
http://img376.imageshack.us/img376/6...aaap5kpnb7.jpg
Here the same. AHCI mode with 2xHitachi drives SATII 320GB (HDT725032VLA360), 2xSATA DVD drives and Q6600 B3, the board is working perfect in XP Pro and Vista Ultimate.
I have. :(
could it be a crappy cpu? Running prime95 showed that even that was not stable. Had to go down to 333 making the CPU@3.0 gig
Coretamp reads around 62 - 69c while Asus tool reads 59 for the whole cpu. (under 100% load/prime95/closed case/warm day)
The TU 120 extreme is fitted as per instructions but i seem to be able to twist it over the cpu a bit too easy. Is that normal?
Anyway, due to the whole system hanging with the AAKS i am now seriously considering replacing the board. Is there any sort of pattern to the SATA problem with regards to where they are made?
Also, bios is set for IDE under SATA. Is that right? what are the other options?
Sorry about all the questions but im at a loss to what to do next.
I have both Premium and Deluxe versions of this board and am running Sata2 drives on both with no problems. My first Deluxe board had to be RMA'd because none of the sata ports worked. But since I have had these 2 boards no troubles at all.
I got my premium from clubit and have sata2 drives. I initially had problems with slow loading of windows and hard drive time outs but they have since gone away. Other than moving the SATA cable around and changing cases, I'm not sure what fixed the problem.
sometimes a broken/damaged SATA cable could cause this probleme aswell.
I'm running 4x WD 320Gb drives without problem sofar, but then I only installed Vista Ultimate 32bit using the IDE option. I'll have to try AHCI or RAID later.
I do however suffer from the boot problems and also my system not wanting to boot at the correct speeds set in the BIOS. When I first got the board it would boot fine at any reasonable overclocked setting, but now if I set 9 x 400FSB, I get the stock speed of 3.0Ghz. If I go back to the origional 0102 BIOS, my CPU (E6850) defaults to 2.4Ghz even though defaults are set in the BIOS.
The only thing I can think of since I first installed the board, is that I origionally had my two backup drives on SATA connectors #3+4, but later moved them to #5+6 hoping it might cure my boot problems. Some time after that I seemed to loose any consistent overclocking ability. Suppose I'll have to try moving the drives back to where they were...
Btw I bought my board in Toronto, Canada.
I had one and it wouldn't work with a Samsung Spinpoint, 16Mb Raptors or WD AAKS. Slow installs are the symptoms, if you get the OS in, sooner or later it starts giving iastor.sys/ATAPI errors, check the event logs. Changing ports makes no difference, fine for awhile then the errors return. That's with AHCI or Raid, nor was it cables or drives. They're all on an IP35 Pro doing just fine.
i have a Raptor and a 500gb WD RE drive that are both SATA II and both work just fine.
By the way, what does Static Read Control do and how does it effect overclocking?

Lol... Yeah I feel like I'm in the dark ages. But that's what I get for dicking with the 680i, (like no one esle on this forum has ever destroyed some hardware:explode2:) the pcb on the EVGA version is a POS compaired to the Ultra-d I use to have.
But I want thank all for the feeback. I'm pulling the trigger Monday for something that will do my Q6600 G0 some justice, this or maybe the deluxe, or the DFI LP P35. Those seem to be the only choices with a Vdroop option in the bios, thanks again for all the help and I'll let you good folks get back on topic.
From ASUS FAQ, "This is because older versions of ICH9R IMSM (Intel Matrix Storage Manager) driver (include VISTA boxed driver) has compatibility problems with several models of HDD from particular vendors.
Please kindly build a new AHCI/RAD driver diskette using makedisk tool v7.5.0.1017, and load this driver prior installation of operating system (Windows XP and VISTA) to fix this problem."
Personally I tried 7.6.0.1011 from Intel site for XP install cause I thought newer should be better. Wrong. With 7.6.0.1011 it never install, died somewhere always, not exactly at the same spot but always dies somewhere. When changed to 7.5.0.1017 as ASUS sugguested, fine ever since.
