Has anyone got M0 stepping yet ? Curious bout it's result ! :)
I got my Q705A E2140 to 3.2ghz with 1.43V (15 hour Orthos stable using a lapped TT120)
Attachment 62366
I got this on stock voltage (1.325V in BIOS) and stock cooling. +0.1V to the FSB and MCH. Gigabyte 965P-DS3 rev 3.3.
I plan to push further soon, but I don't know how much more since SpeedFan is reporting my T_case as 57-58c and Intel's thermal spec is 61.5c.

lo guys.. havent been here for a long time.. got myself a 2160, testing 3150Mhz now.. but the temp is quite high.. 81-83 with ORTHOS..
u think i can run it if its that high? my last Intel was P4
thx, someone
what should i measure with? core temp 0.95 shows 83°C, 0.94 691C, speedfan 69°C and intel thermal a. tool 81°C:shrug:
Well here is something close to 3.6Ghz (3555Mhz 9X multi) on stock cooling + a Air conditioner close to the rig, that's @ ~1.58-1.59V,sometimes it runs @ 3.57 with no problems other times (like this one) it wouldn't, anyway great chip for the money....
Your temp is to high !
Is your heatsink attached good ? And your cooler fits good ?
I dont believe those temps with any cooler  .
Anyways, temps you can best read out with Everest and CoreTemp 0.95.
I got the same with mine E2160, runs perfectly 3550Mhz , and sometimes harder, but usaully it snaps out if i go higher then 3560Mhz.
I wass testing on 1.52VCore then, but ATM waiting on WC rig and for now i use the boxed intel cooler :X

Wow that M0 -stepping can take some fsb! Not bat clocks either...
Now that i have better mobo (Gigabyte P35C -DS3R) i can get my E2160 to 3.2GHz (356 x 9). Vcore is set to 1.48V in bios. Zalman 7700AlCu is the cooler.
my maximum:
stable clocks are 3100Mhz....

so you guys think M0 of E2140/E2160 is best buy for price/performance....
You all guys have luck. I got really bad one E2160.

Maybe my motherboard is fu**ed, its singing (PWM) when CPU got load.
Max stable FSB is 250, does not matter on voltage and multiplier. 2,25GHz its on 1,25V voltage.

Had an E2140 for a week now and just started pushing it. Will have results soon.
Question for other E2140 owners: In Coretemp is your Tjunction read as 100deg C like mine as I have seen a few that read as 80. Does anyone know what this means? I'm not sure i trust coretemp as reading the true temperature.
For idle-temps use Coretemp 0.95, for temps under load use Coretemp 0.94. ;)

the highest ive had my E2140 is 2560 mhz at stock vcore, my DS3 rev 3.3 seems to be having some trouble with the bios, im back using the F10 bios just to get the OC to stick, not to mention i have severely poor cooling, even with the enzotech ultra x, the airflow is terrible in the case.
Fed ex is on the way with a new 2140 retail from newegg. gonna use a p5b dlx and a tuniq tower. goal is 3.2ghz. I'm not sure what the fsb max on 2140 is yet. I've mostly seen around 400mhz fsb. WIth the exception of Venom-Crusher's 440mhz fsb! :toast: amazing overclock!

perhaps with a better aircooling you can get a better clock. btw that score was nice with stock cooling..
'of course' I didn't say at that speed either did I ;) in fact I didn't specify any certain speed. I was just curious what kind of longer-term stability he can get with whatever clocks/voltage for comparison purposes. I asked him specifically because he has an M0 and it seems to be doing very well and since there are so few M0 results around I figured I'd ask.
Any tips how to get over the wall? ll be happy 4 any advice.. i end up at 410.. ve got a 8cm fan over the NB
priming my 2160, air cooling
You can rise the FSB + SB voltage and try again.
Very nice chip btw, i need 1.46VCore on 3.4Ghz  .
So hopefully the wall goes away with some tweaking and you can get maybe 4Ghz  .
BTW, Coretemp 0.94 and Speedfan give you the TCAse temp, you need the CORE temps, and those will be +15°c of the temps what you see there !
So remind it , else you gonna bow up your chip !
u know with box temp were like 34 idle and 66C load.. in coretemp 0.94.. my ambient is like 20C.. with the thermalright ultra 120 i ve got 21 idle (i 'd say it right as i ve got a 12cm 2000rpm fan) and i ve got no case.. so the mobo is on the table.. and there is nothing like (its "hot" in case so u cant have 21 idle)..
so i ***** dont know what to trust
I don't think coretemp 0.95 is right at all. It says i have a load temperature of 75deg C. I know i have good contact from heatsink and there is no way it is that hot. You can tell that much just by touching the heatsink.
I have the E2140 @ 370 X 8 (2956Mhz). 1.3v. Seem to have hit a wall about here and cpu needs way more voltage to go a little higher. this will have to wait until i find a LGA775 bracket adapter for my xp120.
The you just stay stuck on CoreTemp 0.94 !
I tested it with varies of persons.
I got with Coretemp 0.94 temps of 21/22°C when my room is 25°c, you think that is right ?
NO ;).
So if you wanna be harsh and dont want to listen stay on 0.94, but dont complain if your cpu is dead ;) .
Unless you can prove to me, that YOU can cool something to 21°C with air that's 25°C ;) .
Then you are THE MAN !
Sorry for my post, but you dont understand it, then i must be a little hard  .
To be honest i dont think coretemp 0.94 is right either, it gives closer to realistic values on my system though.
I'd take a seaparate correctly positioned thermistor over these internal diode reading apps anyday.
I'm gonna test a 2140 with an Ultra-120 extreme soon.

You should run 094 and 095 at the same time. See if they are different since you seem 100% sure they are. Maybe other people have the opposite results from which one is correct. Last time I did this they were exactly the same, of course the 'reality check' always applies - idle temps can't be below ambient with air or standard water for example.
*edit* Didn't mean the above to sound harsh. I've just tried out Coretemp 094 and 095 with my L2 stepping (:() e4400. Running them at the same time 095 does read 15C higher but also shows TJunction at 15C higher. Don't know which to believe but as long as the temp to tjunction allowance is correct it doesn't matter. The CPU is a poor oc'er anyway :p so I don't really care.
Coretemp 0.94 gives me 6°C idle  .
Coretemp 0.95 gives me 23°c idle...
My room i currently @21°C, and my water of my WC rig is 22°C.
What do you think is right ?
I just say it to help you guys, you will be looking @ 0.94 and 0.95, YOU all think, ohh I LIKE 0.94, because of the temps ;).
Well , let me say, if you are on 65°c with 0.94 it's actually 80°C ;).
I understand you all why you wanna believe 0.94, but it is wrong.
Look, your are 'hopefully' grown up guys, so pls listen if i say it. I know al lot off guys that where wrong about 0.94 VS 0.95.
Why yoy think its called 0.95 anyway ? Becuase its a new update, and updates give sollutions to earlier bugs...
Just want to say, i've been ALWAYS under ambient temp with 0.94, and i'm not a holy man to break the law of physics :p: .
I hope you understand it now ;) .
Besides that guys, i gonna leave you all, i'm on a E6750 now.
My E2140 is sold, and my E2160 is getting some dust in the closet :P.
But i will keep in touch here  .

Screaming results for a dirt cheap chip. I just stumbled across this since I sold my Biostar Tforce P965 and E6300 that was good for 3.4. I was able to buy a sealed EVGA 680i SLI A1 board and for now I got a retail 2140 till Q6600 drops a bit more

Delta is massive from idle/load. She idle's around 20c, then jumps straight to 65c under load & slowly increases. Better cooler should reduce the massive delta on air.

I don't see a 2140 with a 9 multi, only 2160s...please reference a post # for a 2140 with a 9 multi.
Nice clocks there Ming@s, with a L2 as well.
What impact does the lack of cache have in non-benchmarking activities? would you know what speeds these chips need to reach in order to compete with the 4mb cache chips?

on one of ewiz's weekend sales i picked up an e2140 for 66.67$ shipped, does 3200Mhz 1.45 v's 24/7 stable :) 100% OC ftw!
wedfighter: Very nice E2140 you got there :)
What was the max speed (FSB) you were able to run on air?
My E2140 can do 456MHz FSB with 1.4V, but not a single MHz higher on air or watercooling. I will try it on LN2 soon, but it would be interesting to know how much further you were able to push it with better cooling.
Here is the CPU-Z validation:

i have a e2140 i got from directron.com a few weeks back.
batch#: Q711A630
Package date: 07/30/07
SLA3J stepping so its L2
i should have time this weekend to put it together, just waiting on my Ultima-90 to come :p:
Hey, thanks man.
vcore is around 1.35 or a tad higher. Cant remember the fpo/batch coz i got it without any box or any protective stuff. Ill try to run it again maybe on a different mobo or same mobo coz that mobo is not mine, its for my buddy and i just test the mobo before giving it to him.
yeah, i was just amazed too it went that far considering my hsf, scythe zamurai-z is smaller i think than a stock intel hsf .
Will also try to run this on a much bigger hsf and post the result here.
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d2...k2005score.jpg
when i run this, coretemp says its 62 on both cores.
thx u Fr3ak
i could do about 450ish on air, and 440 on stock cooling
looks like u hit a wall on that FSB, try a subzero perhaps it can break the wall
a nice CPU u've got there too, is it M0 or L2 revision? i have an M0 that can do bout 440 on 1.4v but it can't scale much more higher no matter what voltage we gave
i'll try to push some more this weekend :D
@wedfighter,
awesome chip you got there.
whats the fpo/batch?
ill post mine tomorrow.
wedfighter, I have a L2. I will lap the IHS and put the chip on LN2 in about 2 weeks, so I will find out how much further it can go. Too bad the budget chips have a hard fsb wall. Voltage wise, there is a lot of heatroom left :/
But even a 100% OC on a 70USD chip is awesome. Not comparable to what chips overclocked 3 years ago.
my validation.

@Noob-ftw, trans am
its an M0. Batch Q725A.
Hi all!
with short time of tweaking I got my E2160 (rev L2) to 333mhz*9, meaning 2997mhz. To achieve this, I had to rise the cpu voltage to 1.4V my cpu cooler is TT bigtyp vx, which is quiet and it has a lot of cooling power(and I got it cheap ;) ) have done some tweaking in bios, like disabled the thermal control etc, but, this one is not maxed out yet.the stability? I ran 3dmark06 about ½ hour, tweaking my 8800gts, and the system run fine. I´ll run orthos when I have time.
http://koti.mbnet.fi/narkian/pictures/benchmarks%20&%20overclocking/3dmark06_10130.jpg
hey bro i was looking your temps at 100% load and you have a lot head room left in that department, just raise the vcore and see how far you can push the cpu.
1.4v is nothing if you cooler can handle the temps.. with knowledge of 6 intel core 2 duo chips i can say that the system will come unstable somewhere around 60-70c so keep pushing mate i wanna see more mhz :D
Well 3.2GHz isn't much but it's a start :)
http://img249.imageshack.us/img249/5507/cpuzk9.th.jpg
I think that it went pretty easy to that speed as I didn't have to tweak very much. That vdrop is pretty huge or I think it is as voltage is 1.36v when idling and 1.32v under stress.
Im using TuniqTower btw. I might lap the CPU one day as it seems to be concave if you look at the temps...
yup actually it's a $65 chip :D and yes it's OC quite well
i haven't lap the IHS and it runs on stock cooling on daily use @ 450 @ 1.45v
under LN on previous page i set the vcore to 1.7v (BIOS) bout 1.65v (real) damn this IP35 PRO has a lot vdroop
i'm gonna try another board soon, maybe with DFI LP P35 next time :D :D
my batch is Q711A717 is that a good one? sla3j i get my mobo today. its a asrock dual-sata2 it wont clock over 300mhz. but its a step up from my barton 2500 so im happy.
