Cool, an Ultra-120 Extreme is one of the parts I'm waiting on too :D
Good call on the OC database too. I see that there aren't man entries for the newer weeks at all...I'll be sure to add to it soon.

Ok.... my first overclock attempt has me at 3.2ghz. Idle was 37'c with the stock cooler at 1.35v. I've been running Orthos for the past 20 minutes and my temps are stuck at 58'c both cores.
I think it's time to ramp it up a little more.
Just received a L709A442 pack date 04/12/07 currently testing 3.2ghz at 1.30v loaded 48 min
EDIT: Yeah I will have to add mine to the database soon
FYI...Arrived today from ZZF. My first Intel build in years.
Have it running 3.2ghz on 1.328 v. on a 965p ds3 version 3.3. Have not tried for a higher oc. New to this intel. Failed orthos at stock voltage so up to 1.328 and so far good.
Batch L0704A945 pack date 04/04/07..
One quick question guys.... at what temperature should i start getting concerned about the safety of this chip? I'm going to push this thing on the stock cooler some more but want to make sure i don't go too high on temp or the voltage.
thanks!
i have the exact same pack date and stepping so that makes me really happy, are you using air, or water or some other kinda cooling, if your using the same set up as on your sig im going to be buying almost the same water cooling set up as that from NCIX in about a month or so
some one from extreme overclocking forums said that sl9zl cpus where not OCing good,
and sreedx2 do you DH or freeride mountain bike or some thing, im huge in to mountain biking as well
ah the good old days .. yes I am into mountain biking .. I use to do a lot of downhill and jumping I still jump but I take it easy .. I'll ride up then down :) how about yourself what kind of riding do you do
Yes I am running whats in my sig, NCIX = GOOD :D
I actually just received my cpu today and am OCing at the moment, currently testing 400x9 3.6ghz at 1.48 loaded :( I am hoping it just has a break in period because 1 step lower Vcore in the bios I got a bluescreen after 40 min
I don't know what the deal is but the two newer batch cpu's I have had both like to bluescreen instead of failing orthos
doger_666 ... I am very happy so far with my cooling, good luck with yours :)
Hi Guys
I'm thinking of upgrading my E6300 which is at 3.00GHZ atm to ethier a
Core 2 Duo E6600 or a Core 2 Duo E6700.
I basicly want to get 3.6 GHZ out of the chip of air.
I have a good case and lots of fans use AS5 paste and good CPU cooler.
I was wondering would a E6700 do 4GHZ? I use MAME emulator a lot a need the speed.
Also what board would you suggest to get this kind of clock and what memory?
My Specs:
E6300 running at 7x430
Gigabyte 965-S3
2x1GB Patriot 5300 memory running 1:1, my memory can hit 930MHZ after that it hits a wall.
Radeon x1900XT
Artic Cooler pro 7
Full midtower with 2 120mm fans.
Thanks
Josh
well the one I was just running was L629B367 which I was running at 3.3ghz with 1.43 Vcore any higher the voltage would be through the roof
also had a L638F050 and it was crap .. don't even remember what I had
My L709A442 is running at 3.6 with 1.48v loaded small fft's 8 hours
currently running blend to see if she is stable .. just knocked the voltage down one step and she crashed after 3 min
Get a commando P965 Board or how are the new DFI P965 boards doing
Depends really if you get a good chip or not .. also depends how much voltage you want to give your cpu, with the newer batches lately some have been OCing well some haven't, how is your luck ? :)
I can sell you a brand new E6600 not opened, I ordered two thinking I would get different batches but turns out they shipped me two of the exact same chip
I have posted my OC's so far above
If you want to run 3.6 400x9 with a 1:1 ratio your ram is fine but if you want to run 4:5 probably a no go considering you mentioned above you cannot reach 1000mhz .. so if you reached 3.6 and wanted to push it further you probably do not have much headroom .. If looking to upgrade your ram find some nice D9 chips from G skill, Team group .. the list go's on
EDIT: ah whoops did not see what ram you had .. yeah maybe upgrade to some DDR800 D9 chips .. my Team Group can do 1000mhz easy with stock volts or less
Well there is a lot of good help here on the forum, keep on truckin :D

Right now, Here's what I'm testing. It's not very extreme, but I'm surprised that the current voltage it's set at is working.

I'm not sure where to fiind my processor batch number though. Do I have to actually look on the physical chip? Sorry, I'm a noob to the overclocking scene.
It will be printed on the heat spreader on the top of the chip as well as the bottom of the retail box if you went that route.
Hmm, that actually doesn't seem that bad to me so far, maybe the 44's can do well too? With a better cooler and some volts, hopefully the results should be interesting :)Quote:

Hey,
Just got my 6600 in the mail from ZZF yesterday, upgrading from a 6300
It has a packing date of 3/26/07 and its a L644G425 . Ill let you guys know how this does, im waiting for a U-120 Extreme, didnt think my freezer7pro would be sufficient. Hopefully this weekend ill have it up and running.
Interesting...I got the same batch and I ordered from ZZF as well. Same packing date as well I believe (the chip is not in front of me.) I'll be awaiting your results, I'm not entirely sure when I'm getting a few of my parts (usps tracking sucks.)
First tests on my e6600 I got from mew egg yesterday.
L706A499
I am testing on air with a through hole mounted Ninja.
3429 auto voltage with 56C load temp.
Odd thing is CPUZ shows my Multi @ 6.
I've yet to even get started overclocking this thing. As soon as I get a better cooler (probably Enzotech Ultra-X 120 since the Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme is too tall for my case) i'll ramp up and see how high this thing will go. I'd rather not go much higher since my stock cooler sucks.
i tested a new CPU recently

That doesn't look to bad. Of course u are on water. I hope my U-120 extreme can do something close to that....
Any more results with the L649G batch? I just got two 6600s from ZZF but don't have a mobo to test yet.
As demenion stated does anyone have results for the L649G batch from ZZF. I am waiting on memory to install, just wondering how this batch is?
Thanks
my L709A442 is stable at 3.6ghz 1.48v loaded 12 hours orthos blend, this new chip is pretty flat and very cool .. check out my idle temps
I recieved 2 of the same batches as well from zzf also
i havent taken any screenies yet, but i do know that it will do 3.4 with 1.35 vcore (in bios ds3 rev3.3 f11b)
I've ran it at 7x500 @ 1.375 vcore but its not quite stable at the current settings.
Right now im testing at 8x438 3.5 at 1.38 in the bios. Cpu-z and speedfan always read it lower, and i dunno which one to believe.
im using the thermalright ultra 120 extreme and under load at 8x438 and 1.38 vcore is are 25c idle, and 42c fully loaded with orthos.
here is a 7x500 shot cpu validation shot http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc?id=191021 7x500
I'm always surprised when newer batches don't OC as well as original ones...logically, I would think that if anything, they would iron out the production process and they would get better, not worse. Weird!
I got one as well from ZZF. I can't test it out until I get ahold of my graphics card though. Trying to hold out to see what R600 does on Wednesday but it's hard to wait lol. I have a Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme already here and it's going in a new Silverstone TJ09 so I will have some great aircooling going on.
Where has everyone purchased the Thermalright 120 Ultra Extreme from? Everywhere I found is sold out/backordered. Thanks
I remember my old athlon 3700+ passed 12 hours of prime. Later I started getting into company of heros and my sound would skip and it would disconnected me in the middle of the game. 6 months later I ran othoros and that test failed in 43 minutes but prime95 passed.
The point - I don't trust prime95. I test using orthos and occt.
Got my e6600 the other night and I am just Orthos testing the first OC overnight of 8x400=3200 @ 1.35vcore My load temps are 38c. Oh Ya, this chip is from batch L646G509
By next week I should know what it'll do. I like find my stable way up but it takes forever.
LOL
Benamin
...I bought a new E6300 from ebay for $130 to use in a back up rig and so far testing has been horrid. Batch code is Q706A and it is orthos blend stable up to 2.64GHz at stock vcore. Going beyond this even with 1.6vcore is impossible. The system will absolutely not boot at 3.0 and orthos fails within 10 seconds from 2.7-2.9GHz no matter how much vcore I pump into it. It appears the chip doesn't like any additional voltage above stock.
The pic on ebay said it was an L629B batch and the one I had before was orthos stable at 3.2GHz with stock vcore. I contacted the seller and hopefully he will trade me for this piece of crap Q706A.
hey sofarfrome, I see you have the same ram as I have, how high of an O/C have you gotten it up too? just wondering.
hi, my E6600 which I bought last friday:

E6600 comming from newegg this thursday. Will post as soon as it arrives.
I recieved 2 chips from newegg in the past two weeks. So far I have been able to play with one. I have been able to get it stable @3429 with 1.4 volts. The batch is in my sig. My other chip is currently running at stock speeds until I can get another cooler.
My second rig is used for solidworks.

I put it in my Microfly on an Abit F=190HD and thought it was the poorest clocker I ever had. Was about to ebay it but tore apart another rig with a DS3 mb. It takes more juice then I would like but it runs very cool with just a TT BT. SPi is just to show stability. Please no grumbling.:nono: We all would like 3600@1.4v but it aint going to happen.:(

Wow...I bought a L640F on ebay and hope it clocks like that.
If the tracking thing is on time I know 2 people getting a E6600 from the egg on Thursday. I just checked my tracking and it said Thursday. I hope they're good batches. This makes my second E6600, I'll be able to compare it with a L632B444 That's if I don't get the same batch which I probably won't. I was so satisfied with the first one, after a mobo change, I went ahead and ordered another one. (I almost ordered another E6420, but figured I'd be pushin' my luck. :D)
I've got my L649G979 batch E6600 from ZZF up and running. Been testing it out for the last little bit and having to learn all the different settings on my DFI P965-S Dark. I've got most settings set to Auto at the moment and Orthos has been running for 35 mins so far at 3.2Ghz with stock voltage. Voltage is set to auto and it's reporting as 1.29-1.3V in the BIOS and Smart Guardian. I'm pretty sure the voltages are fairly tight on the P965-S so default vCore may be 1.3v on this one. I dunno though, I've been out of the loop of things for a while and been on a laptop so this is my first desktop in almost a year lol.
L640F030 6600
Low volts 3.0@2.568v prime for 9.5 hours. One core failed at 9.5 hours but it is still good. I never worry about a failure after 4 or 5 hours.

me and 3 friends got l6xxf from the egg in the last three weeks, but all of us are from new jersey and they came from the south river warehouse all go 3.6-7 on air.the forth got a l7o7a 3.3 on air
Man..so hard to tell if I should go with e6600 or e6420...OCing seems more unpredictable these days
Cowie...what vcores are l6xxf and l707a using
I should have my OC results by this weekend, been soo busy haven't had a chance to fool with it.
got my E6600 L646G494 400x9 3.6GHz 1.5v Bios 1.448v Cpu-Z Pencil Mod.
about 60-63c orthos with a Zalman 9500 waiting for my water kit to come tomorrow and see if i can get the volts and temps down.
it can do 350x9 with about 1.35v i cant believe it would need that big of a jump just to be stable at 400x9.
oh yeah its orthos stable for 12+ hours i was just trying to tweak the memory timings before.

Well guys.... my E6600 (see sig) is currently stuck at 3.3ghz @ 1.45v. Max load with my enzotech ultra-X is 51'c using Orthos. Any CPU speeds faster have resulted in a failure in Orthos.
How high can I ramp up my V-Core on the CPU with this good cooler before I have to start worrying about damaging my CPU? I've been an AMD guy for the past 5 years and am just learning how to OC intel chips.
Thx.

05/03/2007 DELIVERED[D] - but I am work... :(
Let's see what you guys got and what kind of OCs they pull!!!
well I did a little OC today
its a L644G425 packing date of 3/26/07
i was orthos stable for 4+ hours today with
400x8= 3.2
1.47v
max load temp was @ 51c using a U-120 extreme
im gonna try for a 400x9 and see if I can get 3.6 out of this chip. Dunno because i failed after half hour with 1.45v with the same above. i dont wanna go over 1.5v to get 3.6. well see.
My ZZF L649G979 seems to be solid in Orthos at 3.6 with 1.45v. I tried for 1.425v and Orthos caused a machine exception BSOD.
Man.... how did you get your chip that high? I've got a L647G413 E6600 and can't get it Orthos stable past 3.3ghz even with 1.475v. My current voltage on the chip is 1.4v Are there any other things you're over volting to get those speeds? I'm an intel noob, and haven't really gotten into all the other bios adjustments on my board yet. I'm not sure what is safe volts and what isn't.
Hmm.... tomorrow morning i'll try ramping up the speed a little higher with more voltage and see what happens. I wasn't sure how much higher than 1.5v is safe on these chips.
I've got great cooling. My Enzotech Ultra-X keeps my load temps during Orthos @ 49-50'c max. I can get the computer to boot at 3.4 and 3.5ghz but i always get an error when testing with Orthos.
But.... at those same speeds with 1.475v I was able to run vista fine and play a few hours of Oblivion @ 1920x1200 with 8xAA and 16xAF just fine with the TOTO high resolution texture package installed. It's without a doubt the most taxing game I've ran to date.
I'll try 1.525v tomorrow and perhaps a little more as long as my temps stay reasonable.
Update:
e6600 49G from zzf @ 1.50 (1.48 load) @ 3711 412x9. Orthos and OCCT Stable. Thermalright eXtreme 30c idle 57load in 80 degree room with lapped cpu :)
mine is pissing me off, 3.55 @ 1.52v. my 6420 was as bad, my 6300 does 3590 under 1.4v. these 4mb cache chips need mad volts!
L644G e6600
3ghz (333x9) barely stable with 1.4v
I've given it up to 1.5v and with that 3.15 is semi-stable, 3.2 posts but isn't stable at all. It's depressing to see all the 400x9's that post, I can't post higher than 3.3
I'm hesitant to try anything higher voltage wise since I'm only on air cooling (Scythe Ninja). Also, it's always core 1 (0 & 1) that fails the tests, I'm wondering if there's something wrong there.
Let me eat my words.
Not knowing much about higher end chips like the 6600, I was trying to force 400 x 9 and even at 1.6 volts had no luck. Then something hit me, the charts with the FSB speeds and high the chipset being tighter at 400 mhz than say 420 mhz. So I dropped the multiplier to 8 upped the FSB and dropped the volts. Right now 3.6 is running orthos at only 1.5v, load dropped ~6 deg to 44 at 450 x 8.
So for those of you that have forgot about the chipset latencies being tighter; also my cpu temps were hotter at 400 mhz, try dropping the mult and see what happens!!
I'll give a report when I get more results.
http://www.3dxtreme.net/other/ontap/E6600/IMG_4145.jpg
very interesting dnottis. im gonna give that a try because i was trying for 400x9 but i kept failing orthos even with 1.5v . im gonna give this a try. Thanks
dnottis: are you able to get the same performance @3800Mhz as you got @3600Mhz? I'd like to see some benches at 3.8Ghz 8 multi vs your best clocks @ 9 multi just to see if it's worth it.
