wow... after reading everyone's efforts to overclock the Asus Workstation board... I've concluded one thing. That board is a piece of crap for the price. lol. I'm currently looking for a decent motherboard and this one is off my list being how a lower cost motherboard is just as able to overclock as this one is (and then some). Well, gl to all of you Asus P5WDG2-WS pro owners, but I'll either hold my 300 up for an AW9D-Max or go pick up an MSI i975X for half the price with equalling performance :)

What are your temperatures?

I'm almost done with my build tonight.
This one has given me a hard time, mainly the Zalman 9500 LED. It was hell to mount it today. I've done it many times before, but today turned out to be my "not so lucky day"

So far I never have to clear cmos. Its the easiest 975X mobo to oc. I'm running all settings @ default 24X7...only multi @ 13X and so far no problem:)

Natalie is seriously the first lady I've met in the OCing world!

I think that since she is at a nice, stable overclock, as long as she remembers the bios settings(so she can revert back, if she wishes to), there is no reason to not tinker around and try for a higher FSB, to run benchmarks at.... As log as temperatures stay reasonable(61.5C is the C2D Thermal Spec).

I'm able to do 9X400 3.6ghz with 1.56 Vcore but it is not stable. I cannot finish 3Dmark 05 or 06.

Try 370X9 (Vcore 1.475 in bios will be overvolted to 1.53V) and clockgened to 400. Vmch max. and FSB termination 1.4V (1.5V no gain for me)....Mem. voltage/settings depend on your ram

Not if you have a VapoChill LS because it also shutdown the Vapo too and turning the Vapo on right away after shutdown is NOT a good idea. :(

I ran dual PSU for phase. One for crossfire cards/fans/vapo LS and the other for system.
You can get budget psu to run just vapo's controller + all fans.

Much to JasonDTM's Dismay, the MSI board is dog crap compared to the WS PRO.

yeah I tend to agree, even e6600 and above (apart from fsb bugged X6800) can boot up to 460-470, that's unique on the 975 chipset...

I will have the board soon and will be able to test with phase in a few weeks. First I will run my E6600 stepping 5 with watercooling on the board and see what I can get.

I am running BIOS 0307 with this P5WDG2 WS Pro, a Scythe Ninja and Wk.27 E6600. ASUS PC Probe II is reporting rediculous temperatures, such as 96 degrees Celcius and above, which I know can't be true. I had read elsewhere that this board did not report accurate temperature readings. Anyone else experience reports of temps this high? Anything that can be done to get a true reading? Core Temp also reports way too high. Overall, however, the board "feels" like it is pumping out less heat from the memory, northbridge, etc. than the P5B Deluxe and DH did.

There is apparently not a more recent BIOS to try.

Please advise,

My temperatures seem to be completely reasonable for the most part.

Also, like I promised. I tested out higher FSB :banana:

This board is so easy to work with after RangerXL taught me the basics. I was able to get to 425 FSB at a voltage of 1.5V with very little effort. THis motherboard really is nice! (Though I really have no frame of reference for comparision :p:)

Some questions:

1.) What does the ASUS PC Probe II show for your CPU temperature when you get to 380 FSB or higher?
2.) What is the temperature at 425 FSB? Also, what week is your E6600?
3.) Did you change the multiplier with software?
4.) Were there any key BIOS settings that had to be changed as you got to the higher FSB's?
5.) Also, what was the highest FSB that you had total stability at (Orthos, etc)?

what I meant was that it's crap for the price. and the MSI board is only limited becuase of bios problems (which every board is suffering right now) and can be alleviated through updates that MSI is providing. 300 dollars to get 475FSB, at least to me, isn't worth it. the MSI board can hit around 450, and it's 175 dollars on newegg right now. =). and the Intel BOXD975XBXLKR has been proven to OC well too, and it's around 230 USD. I was just mentioning the price to performance//potential performance (overclocking) ratio.

If I set the Vcore to 1.55 in Bios, Asus probe or AI Booster will read higher in windows, about 1.6V it shows.
Now, I don't know it that is accurate (Andre Yang said it wasn't) but it is scary. I mean, setting 1.6 in bios is scary enough, to later boot and see 1.65 through AI Booster.....

Right now, I'm running 380X9 = 3.4ghz @ 1.4875 Vcore (in windows it reads 1.54)

I can boot 400X9 @ 1.55V but it won't pass 3DMark 05 or 06.
Anything higher usually fails for me!

Temperatures: Idle @ 50-52c

Using Bios 004 Beta or lates 307 didn't make a difference!

Anybody knows how to stop this board from going OFF when restarting?
If I choose to restart the system, it will always shut down for about 2 seconds and then start again!

I'm probably being stupid here but if you know it overvolts by a set amount in Windows can't you just set it lower in the BIOS? I'm sure that I read that someone else on here thought the P5WDG2 was better than their P5W-DH because "I can run the same speed at 0.75v less vCore" when in reality it was the same in Windows.....?

Asus Intel MB, when overclocked, powerdown\turn on for restarts...That's just how it is.

Done on normal WC, BIOS 0004 fixes the COLDBOOT bug when read delay in the chipset menu is set to 7. :YIPPIE:

Some heatsinks placed in certain directions end up making contact with surround capicitors. Most of the time if you simply turn the heatsink 90 degress (on its base) then you may find it will fit. If it still doesn't then the heatsink simply isn't compatible with the motherboard.

Well, that's the thing. Those same caps are at 12 o'clock and 3 o'clock relative to the cpu socket, so I'm confused as to how they mounted the infinity. If they just turned it 90 degrees, those same caps are waiting to block them there as well.

To be honest, if I had to do it again, I wouldn't do the same cooler. Not the best fit for the board due to clearance is .1mm at best.

The front is metal. All around this is a super high quality case. Extremely sturdy and very sexy :p: I love the Motherboard tray that just slides out in a jiffy too!

I have the 810 and I like the fact that it has wheels and also has vents at the bottom of the case. Makes it easy to put a 120.2 rad on there :) One of the key differences between this and the 830 is that the 810 does not have a sliding mobo tray. However, that's not too big of a deal since the case is so big you won't have much trouble getting things in and out.

that clamp actually sits very high. sits about 1/2 inch higher than the caps on my board.

I meant you don't spend $250 to $300 on a decked out case only to slice and dice it when, if that is what you wanted to do, you are better off getting a much cheaper and mod-friendly case.

i have the Aspire X-Navigator and its a breeze to install stuff....bigger than Coolermaster and alot roomier, comes with 4 fans for like 100$ 120 in back and 3 80mm all around..
easily customizable and metal, so its sturdy..but i have no ideas of what to mod it into

i could never get my E6700 to go over 400 FSB (at any multi) without raising the Vcore to ridculous level...i am talking 1.65v and above...max FSB was 404!

i switch the E6700 to my P5B Dlx...i can now push it to about 460 FSB at the lower multi's...could not even get close with that FSB on the Pro...go figure!:)

that's the difference between chipsets. generally the 965 chipset is going to hit much higher FSB's. C2 rev. supposedly hits 600+FSB.

What were your board voltages with that? I have the same set-up basically and I find 400 to be rock-solid stable but 410 to be totally quite unstable.

If I had to do it again, I would not use the same cooler on this motherboard. Not worth the effort of trying to get it to stick to the board without falling back off.

nah you wont ground out the coil you'll just smash it or bend it over.

its the same way with the DS3 and an XP-90/120 it sits right on some cap's and you dont even know it unless your looking for it.

are you still using the Scythe Infinity with the stock clips? i had to take the motherboard out of the case in order to get the cooler to mount properly. and then i found it was still resting on the caps.

I'd say you need more vCore than that to run higher FSB, but no doubt you already tried that.

EDIT: Holy crap you've got a Scythe Infinity!! You should be able to run at almost 4Ghz with that sucker. Feed it more vCore :D

after reading it, i will NOT buy the Scythe 1000...not worth paying $60+ for a HS that needs that manipulation to make it fit correctly!

it doesn't need it. it works perfectly fine with stock mounting, but it just works much better with a tighter fit. which is what the guide shows you how to do. pretty much every HS will work better the tighter you get it.

You don't have to take the backing off the foam if it's a temporary build or you plan on using it on a different mobo later. I think there's even a blurb in the instructions about it. I used the BT while I was waiting on my WC parts and just didn't stick the foam on the mobo side so I could remove it when I was ready.
