I think you need to either have a fan on the heat pipe or replace the stock heatpipe with something else if you are not using a CPU fan. It looks as if you are using vapochill, so the heat will not escape from the heatpipe.

Yeah, I think I'm gonna go back to a P5W-DH - at least if I can find somewhere in the UK that is selling the latest revision. AW9-Max isnt an option for me because using both PCI-e slots would mean no PCI slots available... its a really really badly designed board, I don't care what its capable of. :(Quote:

Got P5W64 which I was sure would be the answer to my prayers and would give me 450+ easily - and I hit the same roadblock as I did with my P5W-DH.
Strangely my CPU was showing a lot higher temperatures in Windows than my P5W-DH (up to 50 degrees C idle), despite the fact nothing has changed hardware wise - and the cooler uses the standard Intel push-pin mechanism so theres no real room for a bad contact.
The RAM runs 500Mhz at a non-1:1 ratio, and my CPU will do 3.6Ghz dual Prime stable at 1.4250v. Do I need to run more than 2.1v through G.Skill PC2-6400 2GB HZ to get over 410FSB 1:1, when I don't have to for the 500Mhz on a different ratio?
I could redo the TIM on the NB and SB, maybe even put my Swiftech on it but as soon as I do that I'm stuck with the board - can't return it as "new". I've already got one P5W-DH that "only" has 1.65v vMCH (thanks Asus) which I'm going to have to sell on.
Really don't know what to do at the moment.
Durzel,
If you haven't already done so, it might be an idea to get dirty with Memset and relax some of the alpha timings (beyond the basic 4 settings eg 4-4-4-12).
Read Delay (tRD) of 7 or over may help
Refresh Mode Select (RMS) 7.8us or 3.9us (this value is more relaxed than than 7.8us or 15.Xus)
Everything from and including tRFC downwards try giving a +1 and see if that helps.
I know you already said that you've had 500Mhz at async and so it would be reasonable to expect the same mem settings to work at a lower Mhz in sync but as they say, stranger things have happened :)
Yes - and all out of stock ...Quote:

Seems like I should get a P5WDG2-WS PRO :(
So far what is known about overclocking on P5W64-WS Pro PRO and P5WDG2-WS PRO?
dont know if this has been posted but a pretty good read non the less> http://www.hothardware.com/viewartic...leid=869&cid=3
If it the same like DG2 WS Pro then Vcore actually overvolted. Try a bit more vcore and probly it will help.Quote:

I really can't see how more vCore is going to help this. :(
I tried following what SimonMaltby did before - setting RAM to manual (4-4-4-12) and then using MemSet to set all the subsettings to SPD, but this didn't help from what I could tell.Quote:

does anybody know if this board works with a 7950 gx2?

You need closer to 1.5 or more to get a good overclock with what you have. Try it, but without your LS, it is going to get hot. The conroe's respond to more vcore faster than anything else as far as overclocking.Quote:

 Huh, I'm no fortune teller but awaiting my 64 this week I downloaded the 0209 two days ago to be on the safe side.... - what a luck !!! :p:Quote:

I used 0209 bios for awhile. Seemed okay to me. Multipliers up to x20 for X6800.

My P5W64 WS Pro, 2GB G.Skill HZ and a Core 2 Duo E6600 arrived a few minutes ago, only some watercooling parts are still missing. I'll flash to 0209 as there seems to be no severe problem with it. Thanks for your input. :)
@ sierra_bound
Nice overclock.
 Anyone knows the measure point & resistor to pencil for a Vdimm pencil mod on this board???
I finally decided to get this motherboard over the P5WDG2 WS Pro because of the extra PCIe X16 slots. Will come in very handy to run the Areca 1210 SATA controller card:woot: Now where can a person download the 0209 Bios?
asus website.
or not as the case may be - didn't realise it was pulled. I have a copy somewhere - if you get desperate, pm me

Personally I think it was pulled because the picture was too blue.

Unfortunately, there is no changelog, I don't know what was fixed. With BIOS 0209 I had the problem that changing multi did not work. I could set a lower multi in BIOS but only the default one was in use. With 0212 the issue is resolved for me. Apart from that I could not see any changes.
I believe Asus pulled 0209 from its server because of problems with the Marvell RAID.
0022 is probably the best, if you want high FSB without modding the board. Some of the other bios files have a FSB bug. I think AndreYang mentioned this awhile back.
Newest BIOS is 0215, it was compiled today.
http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/517/p5w64oi6.jpg
As I was told, overclocking has been improved, a Marvell bug was fixed, an issue that the board couldn't post with a certain CPU was fixed.
I did not have much time to test. The only thing I recognized was that the hardware monitor in BIOS now opens immediately, there is no more break.
The BIOS can be ordered from ASUS.
Does it still cold-restart when overclocked with this BIOS?Quote:

Ok, let's make a rule. If you get a beta/test bios and are not allowed to link/share it, then STFU about it. Looking at your screenies of amazing OCs on a bios the rest of us can't have is useless. How many of you would like to know how much I paid for my E6700 through the Intel EPP knowing you can't do the same?
I have 209 and 212, never saw 0022 or 215, links are here!

Strange! I cannot get my sys to boot up with any multiplier other than 9.

The only issue I have is an obviously misreported vcore voltage. Setting the vcore to 1.400 in BIOS is shown as 1.480 in BIOS hardware monitor and Probe.

Argh! Help!
I'm using 0022 at the moment. 0209 isn't bad either. When the weather gets a little cooler, I might be able to run 32M at 4100MHz on air. Ambient temp is still too high. I could pump air-conditioned air onto the board and go over 4.1GHz easily. But I want a more realistic air result.
You got one nice cpu there :) And yes I agree with sticking to what is real. But the colder season approaches...
Dry ambient winter = less 975X board die on phase:)
Is 0215 the official one?

Yes, this does look like one Bad A$$ board. But as for waiting for an RD-History has shown that Intel chipsets have always been the performer when it comes to Intel CPU's. so far, nobody has been able to on-up Intel on their own platform.
I will be waiting until A LOT of reviews and a few forum threads are solid before I even think about another board swap. I jumped a little to early on this P5W DH and E6600 setup I have now - and i'm pretty much stuck with a 366 FSB W 1.55volts. Unless there is something I'm overlooking..............
I have e6600 that need def. Vcore for 3,2GHz on P5B Dlx (8x400). But when i put him to the P5W64, i can't boot with that voltage. I must raise Vcore to the 1,375V, that i normally use to boot with 9x400. I think that P5W always see my CPU with multi 9 and after boot switch multi to 8. It's very irritating. I don't need more Vcore than 1,325 to use 8x400, but I MUST set 1,375 to use this settings. Is anybody has answer?
Second question is - what is VID Control in CPU Section? Default settings is 62....

What VCore are you getting in Windows? If you set, say, 1.5V in bios, it may read 1.55 in Windows. The board overvolts, which means you are actually using more VCore than you think. Also, depending on the sensor chip used, the temperature readings can vary a lot from board to board.
Im on default volts, AI booster and probe both read 1.15 in windows and they both read 40 Deg on stock 2.4Ghz speed which is the same as hardware monitor in bios. :confused:Quote:
