Are all quads this hard to O/C? If I go anything over stock, it wont restart after exiting bios or restarting the machine, have to hit reset. And it will freeze my games and give error messages a plenty. It also recognizes my ram as ddr2-800:(
My E8400 clocked to 4Ghz, no problems at all.
Is it the board thats picky? I have never seen so many bewildering bios options in my life:(

The chip starts shooting up to high temp wise when I set it to use the load line past a certain point but, I am using it at the point right before it makes my CPU temps go to high "90s" which is @ 1.3475 or something really close to that number. Anything higher then the before mentioned Voltage setting and it sky rockets.
When I set my CPU voltage without the Load Line I have to set the CPU voltage to 1.4v to get 1.280 some times under load and it stays at idle at 1.342v, thus my VDrop of sorry my math was off I see now, .058v . I set it to use load line at 1.3475v and I get a constant of 1.296 which keeps everything stable under full load. I hit 81C under full load with Intel burntest with load line turned on at that, voltage.
I know for a fact my, gtl happy spots have changed on me because I wrote all the settings down before I cleared the CMOS after lapping my CPU. I had everything set in my BIOS manually, it took me about 24hrs total time to get everything perfect before clearing that CMOS. I have everything honed in again setting wise and everything is stable again now. I just want to know if the VDrop, is bad enough to warrant an RMA. I am picking up a Corsair HX 850w for the hell of it tomorrow.
Don't be mean like I know absolutely nothing because I am fairly experienced when it comes to over clocking. I do not claim to know everything but, I am fairly well off knowledge wise compared to many. I help people when I can and ask questions when I need advise.

P.S. : I am not coming in here tuting about ASUS, this board spanks my Asus which is why I bought it a week or two ago. :p: I sold my friend my old GA-P35-DQ6 so I know Gigabyte has good boards. Hell I was 7th in that overclocking contest Gigabyte had right about when they had come out with the GA-P35-DQ6, or a little time after not to long that's for sure.

Questions: After all that change and after lapping your cpu have you flashed your bios to try different versions? If so you might have flashed a newer BIOS with the new RAID firmware and those (1.20E) impact stability too.
Another factor is temps. Q9650 above 60oC will throw out unreliable results when it comes to Priming. Lapping will also have a direct impact on this sometimes a negative one.
I never seen Ref's on the same board changing, only if something significant within that same board has changed too (ex. weak capacitor, banged smd etc).

Another footnote: My entire experience surrounds Rev. 1.0 and 1.1. I just checked your sig and the 1.6 might be an entire different animal.
So people with that Rev. could be a more reliable source of information.
As far as I'm concern Rev. 1.0 with F4 bios is still the best.

Sergio you are wright. With LLC Enabled you will have more vcore when idling 6x500. Then it will drop a little bit when under 50% of load, for example, and it will drop fully when 100% load. If you want to reduce vcore when at 6x500 you can do it by software.Quote:

What kind of vdrop is everyone getting with these boards with LLC enabled? I have a chart I'm going to put up, when I get home today and I'd like to compare notes with you guys.
I have noticed a few areas where 1-2 bumps in bios vcore will keep the cpuZ voltage the same at load. Also, there are a few voltages I can set in bios and cpuZ will bounce between two values at full prime load (like they're in between).
Additionally, I just put my new ud3r in a few days ago and I'm getting slightly lower cpuZ voltages as compared to my old board at the same bios settings. I'm a little bummed about that one.

I have also noticed that if you use Intelburntest when first firing up the mother board you will get lower GFlops for a little while and slower completion times with it as well at first. Then as I reboot it and bench it more it will start picking up and getting eventually back to what it should be pushing. I have been utilizing Intelburntest by paying attention to the completion times and how many GFlops the CPU pushes out and by paying attention to the temps on the cores as well to tweak my GTLs to perfection, very helpful there.
This morning, I went ahead and bumped up my FSB Term voltage to see what happens and I noticed that it bumped the speed back up to normal instantly but, I have it set @ 1.4v now. That might, have been my problem there but, I am still poking around with it here and there to better feel that one out. Also, the GTL wanted to be set back to around the .88 spot when I bumped the FSB Term up.
This board wants to adjust your CPU Reference GTL when you bump FSB Term up and my board really seems to like being around the .88 reference spot. Maybe this is normal and I am just noticing it for the first time but,I am sure this info will serve some people well some where down the line. I can post other interesting quarks as I come across them if people like.
What you both are describing is not an anomally, but rather bios design. The voltage feedback or registers are measured at defined increments, unless you exceed a threshold, no change is registered. So a very fine voltage adjustment may be within a defined threshold and therefore won't necessary register even though the effect is manifest. So eg. 1.4250 and 1.41xx may both register 1.3920v because the register threshold has not been crossed.
This was discussed once already on pages 175 and 176. As I mentioned there...BIOS can adust vCore in steps of .00625, but CPU-Z reads in .016 increments only.
LLC may or may not be on your board, it helps prevent vdroop of the vcore voltage (loaded) when enabled. GTL is a reference voltage, different BIOS's call it different things. on your board it is CPU reference voltage (i think) in the MIT tweaker menu. you set this by taking your CPU voltage and multiplying it by .67 (standard) and select the voltage closest to the result. Some ASUS boards display the percentage in decimal form IE .67, .63 etc. for the cpu & NB reference setting. usually the percentage for CPU is .67 and the NB .63. IIRC...Quote:

i know this chip will do more than 3.7ghz i just ned to learn what to tweak and what things are called on this board until i get my UD3P...
