I'll be taking it easy on the cpu for the first few days, but I can post batch#(ordered it from the Egg.) and prelim results.

right guys i decided to stop at 4ghz for the time being which will benifit gaming more
500 x 8
or
475 x 8.5
or
450 x 9
cpu temps are not a problem at 450 x 9 @ 1.336 vcore. 6 hours prime stable max core temp is 53.
and get this using ocz flex 9200 4gb kit was able to get 1200mhz 4-4-4-14 @2.15v

right off the bat 500x9 @ full load.. same setup/ep45 dq6/ifx14 cooler/etc.
@ Napalm, do you reckon you could hit 500FSB without your PSU mods ?
Here's my stepping, but can't find any info on it:L825B513-9/17/08
The RMA on my Q9650 was approved and a new chip was shipped back to me today. My rig has down for a week and now I am not so sure I want to put the new chip back in this board as ASUS suggests and have it fry the new one also. Waiting on an ASUS response now. I might get an 8400 for this RE.
So the question now is what other boards are having good results with the Q9650? I have a 4870X2 so should I be looking at a P45 or another X48?
the q9650 seems to be all about the VID 1.20 is the best i think and 1.25 is the worst well saying that i am stable at 4ghz with a VID of 1.25 and vcore of just under 1.29 which is nothing given you can take these upto 1.40 - 1.45. so i dont think there are any rules with these chips seems the game has changed and the 1 thing that will hold you back is you mobo's fsb wall.
!THE QUESTION IS HOW FAR CAN YOU TAKE YOUR BEFORE IT CRAPS OUT!
sorry to go back to this after all this time but the great white by scan they used 1.62 or somthing near there to get 4.4ghz. im priming my evga 780i not the the 790i that they used but no real diffrence stable for prime blend for 10mins now on 1.38 vcore beat that SCAN!!!:ROTF:
isnt that for you guys to explore/figure/find out ? :D
lol
not yet primed.. im gonna start @ 4ghz and work my way up.. gotta do some breaking/burning in..
4 x memtest.. yes all air
you mean 4.5ghz.. ?
that is the Q.. where are the 1.15/1.05/.095/.085vid q9650s and all the others in between ???
well guys.. i barely had minutes to play around.. but got 4.8ghz out of this lousy 1.25vidder
http://img518.imageshack.us/img518/4447/4806zo8.jpg
though @ higher vcore than my other 1.2125vid q9650 but this cpu hasnt popped yet
What do you mean this CPU hasn't popped yet.. did the other one Die??????? if so I wonder why? could it be the voltage or vtt you gave it.
also thats a GREAT clock already sir. Thats just crazy how easy you can do that. I'm thinkin it MUST be the PSU Mod.. thats probably it. I'm planning on doing it to my HX520 eventually. but thats the only PSU I have. wouldn't wanna kill my only PSU. Maybe I should order something else just in case.
Also how in the hell are you at 4.5 Ghz.. on FULL load with only load temps of 45-47 MAX.. thats just crap. the IFX-14 isn't THAT great is it. I heard it's not much better than the TRUE, but by those results it sounds great.. you have 2 fans on it I'm assuming. or even 3.. and are they 150CFM loud boys?
with my Tuniq Tower and 1.304v at 4.0 Ghz I'm getting load temps in small FFT's around 62/56/56/56 Thats higher than MOST are getting. I'm wondering if my Tuniq is messed up. I've been thinking about buying a true, or a IFX-14.. some guy wants to switch his TRUE, for my tuniq, as it doesn't fit his new case. and the tuniq will. but he drilled into it with the bolt through mod. I'm not sure I wanna trade, as it might be all messed up. waiting for pictures right now.
edit* better idea.. is there any PSU's that come with the adjusters stock.. instead of having to mod it.. Can I buy a PSU with them inside it like you said they "Might have"
do you know Napalm.. if so, then maybe I'll buy that. I don't wanna spend over $175 though if I can.. I only need around 700w or so.. as I'm using a 520 now.. and I might go SLI in future.. let me know? thanks!
My Gigabyte Odin GT800 allows me to adjust the 12v line via software in windows, pretty sweet. I adjusted mine up to 12.04v, but I haven't had time to play with it, also I am using a QX9650. Currently at 4200 at 1.40v. GTL Ref adjustments seem to help a lot.
ordered another Q9650 DAMN these are addicting ! 1st one = 4Ghz @ 38.38.38.41 100% load
xguntherc
lol.. it didnt die still kicking hard.. what i mean by pop is like corn pop after burn in.. whether itll pop or not.. ill see if it clocks at lower vcore or clocks higher
i never said its just the psu.. just the mobo.. just the cpu.. just the cooling.. its a combo of all
yes the 2 x ystech 7.92w fans probably rated @ 125-130cfm which @ 12.5v is louder than normal and the ifx14 @ 73 F ambient are able to handle the loads @ 4.5ghz @ those temps.. i have 2 x tuniq tower the cooler handles 4ghz fine but not 4.5ghz
http://img264.imageshack.us/img264/306/systemyp2.th.jpghttp://img264.imageshack.us/images/thpix.gif
one sandwiched the other cools the cpu/vga/nb/sb/ram/the whole mobo
the beefiest 750watt pcpower&cooling under 150$ should be able to handle 4.5ghz.. road-runner in this thread posted 4.6ghz
if any of you would be able to run 4.5ghz @ full load on a 500watt psu id be shocked
again no gtl adjusting.. not saying that gtl doesnt work.. it is smtg i dont/never rely on
Ya I was looking at some PC Power and Cooling PSU's. they have adjustable POT's. but they are expensive, plus the adjustable POT's didn't help much in the reviews I read.. I wonder if my PSU is supplying enough power for my system? I think it's probably ok.
I did look up the Odin GT. I checked out the software. looks pretty good. I wouldn't mind having that one.
also Nice bigslappy.. I sure WISH I had the funds to get a second one as you are... and that I had water to get those type of temps. if I could.. I'd be doing 4.3 Ghz 24/7 probably.. or maybe a little less.
Also I noticed you have both PC P&C PSU's. they have adjustable POT's. do you dare get the needed tools to turn them up and see if they help your overclocks as Napalm has said?
For the past week i've been playing with EVGA 780i FTW, MSI p&N Diamond, Rampage Formula and a MIIF. The Maximus i am the most pleased with so far. I've ran a couple of 1 hour Blend/Small FFT with no errors. Definatley more to Stability tests to come.
Memory is on auto, i'll tweak that after i find my max fsb. Needless to say I;m pleased with this 9650 and Maximus II Formula.

do you guys oc @ fsb/ram 1:1 ratio or some other crikey ratio ?
i see you nugzo @ 1:1 but referring to everyone
