What is the best bios for this board with a e6400 and 2x2gb ram? I had 0809 and it didn't work that great, and I just flashed it to 0311 bios but the trfc is limited to 42, so what bios should i try?
edit: nvm, just leave it on auto and the spd sets it

So what's the verdict on 0812? Is it bunk? I see that it dropped a few bench points on those tests, but does it accomplish anything? even if "only" stability?
My P5K Deluxe is being a pansy and not wanting to boot with 4 sticks of RAM all the sudden...

yesterday i just wanted to upgrade the bios through DOS.i put win98 cd in
dvd drive to boot in DOS."start with cd rom support" but it seys the no cd
drive found.but in EZ flash program the dvd drive is mention with drive letter.other problem in windows the AI suite v1.02,02 is not working.neather clock gen showing the memery frquencies, HWmonitor also not showing the DDR volts,even when i set manually 2.00v or 1.95V.but cpuz is showing memery
frequency and timing.i dont know what is going on...........

0812 works fine here with Qx9650 and E8400 with 2 x 2 Gb sticks... I've heard comments that it doesn't seem to work good with 4 sticks... but I'm prolly repeating myself here lol

Running Bios v0812, and everytime i shut down for a min or 2, it tells me Overclocking failed even at stock settings with minute changes, could someone tell me what i need to do ?

Update: it seems like i had to set the CPU Ratio Control manually, "CPU multi" which i my case would be "8".
Try these settings plz, first try with 7 multi then test thoroughly, if all is well go to 8X you get 3.2Ghz (maybe you need to up the Vcore) and get decent speed out of ya ramsQuote:

Only thing I would do is TRFC to 55 and disable transaction booster (relax level 1), for the rest looking sweet, just ya mobo temps are getting way up there... cool those mosfets too !!... I would run that rig at 9 multi with 400FSB 24/7 just to be safer on the mobo side... you still fighting those overclock failed messages dude ?

I just updated to the 0812 bios however, my settings seem incorrect. CPUZ shows that my CPU (E6600 on P5k DLX) is running at 1603 MHZ. For now I want to get it to be stable at STOCK speeds, and I will worry about overlocks later. Can you provide BIOS settings for complete optimal stock operation? My ram is 4-4-4-12 Corsair XMS PC6400. Thanks!
It is a good mobo. I still have it in service as a 2bd PC and it did great w/ a new E6750 last July, taking it to 4GHz on air. Those settings ar for more advance overclocking outside of jusr rising FSB and vcore.Quote:

450 is on the upper end for an E6600 so auto may not be enough. Although, like I said, auto can go way over too, making it get too hot. You can record the values and adjust it a tad from there as needed. Many of us here will help guide you there if this is a 1st run.Quote:

Try uninstalling and reinstalling any apps that give you problems. Often many apps especially that one since it is BIOS based so much must be reinstalled to configure with new BIOS version. Sometimes we even reinstall fresh XP or OS to get it all right, or at least important chipset, VGA, and RAID drivers.Quote:

Here is my latest setup for everyday use. I had this system up to 4.7 GHz @ 1.55v with acceptable temps with air cooling, but the voltage is too high. It runs stable at 4.0 GHz @ 1.32v, but runs 5C cooler under load at 3924 MHz @ 1.27v...and this system usually runs 24 hrs a day.

The Premium is an awsome version w/ few new BIOS options important to getting more out of you CPU/RAM OC. The E6750 is a nice OC'r and is averaged to 515FSB but loves the 500FSB easy and is exactly what I had on this mobo back in July. So YES, this or the Premium is gonna get you further then on the Gigabyte in my opinion. 3.85GHz is a snap @ only 1.48v and a 5:6 for DDR1153. This is a 24/7 profile as also used on my X38 version. 3.50GHz as 500x7 1:1 DDR1000 is much easier and cooler w/ 1.36v (I have lower VID, so it can very to not much more then 1.41v).Quote:

Disable EIST and co again in the CPU feature... 6 x 266 is about 1600mhz... or start prime or such and you will see that it will go up to 9 multi and show 2400mhz...

Not all E6850's dop 4ghz stable, and really pumping 1.7 volts through a CPU is madness... I don't want to even know ya temps... your CPU is prolly the limiting factor here, I too could boot my E6600 at 4ghz , a quick screenshot before it BSOD on me...Quote:

Well to tell you about wolfdale as 45nm loads of peeps are also stuck around 3.8-3.9ish level due to much Vcore being needed to get to 4ghz ( so above 1.4Vcore )... could be you get a golden one or it coulde be average (like most) or just a crappy one

FSB is nice but doesn't mean ya CPU can breach 4ghz unless you whack insane voltages coupled with extreme cooling
Newer E8400 Wolfdales top out around 4-4.2Ghz stable at reasonable voltage levels (sub 1.4Vcore) for most users... while they can breach 550FSB doesn't mean they can go up to 4.5ghz and higher stable... Sell that E6850 and go wolfdale it will make life easier on ya...
ok its stayable with 1.5500v in bios 500*8 and all cpu configration to disable,core0=46,core1= 48with Hmonitor.underload 56 and 59.after hard finding.i also
found that 0812 bios is very stable compare to all other bioses.0603,0705,0809etc.if some one wants best overclocking
bios.

Just flashed my P5K to 812 from 311 and so far so good. I've got two E8400's sitting next to me right now ($140 each from CompUSA deal) and I'm tempted to throw one in, but what I really want is a 9450. I do mostly video work - Sony Vegas, Avid Media Composer, and various encoding apps so I'm a bit hesitant to install a new dual core when there's several affordable quad core chips floating around. Then again I don't think any of the apps I use are actually threaded to take advantage of more than two cores yet.
I know it's off topic, but does anyone think I'd see a dramatic performance increase or an increase in overall program responsiveness with a 9450 @ ~3.4 vs. an E8400 @ ~4.0? Stability is essential here (4+ hour renders) so if an oc'ed quad core is going to be finicky let me know and I'll steer clear.

Hi again, I had a question about the bios. I have the 404 bios right now, and the tRFC only goes to 45. I heard to run some DDR2-1000 2x 2gb sets you need to loosen this, to around 52-55 or so. Is this true? If so, will a newer bios have the options for a higher tRFC?
What bios would you guys suggest? The latest?

I just flashed my board last night from 07** (don't remembe exactly but it was a buggy bios) to 0812 and now I can't get stable with same settings as before, thanks Asus!
I was used to set vcore, vram and a few other settings let nb, sb, pll and etc voltages in auto and my system was always rock solid. Now I can't get the system stable for 5 minutes in Prime and the vdroop seems huge (at least bigger than before).
Any tips?

Fact is that at this settings you see in the pics it's prime stable rock solid...If i change to
Q6600 2400@3808 (476x8) vcorebios= 1,45

wich is also prime stable, BUT after some days of using this, one day i turn off the PC all nite and at the morning i can't boot anymore, i mean no matter if i reset CMOS, take out the battery etc, the ONLY thing that makes it boot is take out the crucials and put a standard DDR2 800 memory, then i set the bios again and put the crucials...
I started to think that my crucial's can be damaged but, stood all nite on a memtest...passed all spi (4xspi 32mb) and prime (large, blend) for hours...
Also i want to add that at 480x8 i'm on my FSB limit that maybe the cause of this bios matter...
I tested changing the FSB, NB voltajes, the voltajes ref and others and the best config i end is the one on the pics.
Sorry if this post is long, but just want to know if anyone has this problem or can suggest me another good config to run my OC at this 8x multi that is so fast and i love it

Why don't you try NB voltage at 1.4, TRFC 42 5-5-5-15 for the rams, PCI-E : 101 and disable static Read control... and a more recent bios...
I don't care if it passes Prime for hours it has to boot when you want too !

sup Sergio, I had that problem too as you know a while ago. It was the first symptom of electromigration with my crucial sticks.

The weird thing was as in your case that the system was rock stable at memtest, orthos large, OCCT, but once you power off you could not start it again.
Try to disable Dram Static Read Control, that should loose the performance level a bit, and hopefully not so stressfull for your RAM.
Your bios may be dropping back to the default memory voltage which, if memory serves, is 1.8. Crucial memory will often refuse to boot with less than 2.1 volts. When I had Crucial, if I reset bios I would have to start with a cheapo mem stick to boot to bios and then set the Crucial to 2.2 and then all was good to go. Not exactly your situation but it seems similar.

Yes I remember your situation but you told me you got errors, in my case there's no errorrs at all, but i discovered that:
At 480x8 = 3840 i have some kind of FSB gap, CPUZ and Everest shows 3833...
And at more than 480x8 does not boot, so I can assume that there's a limit there and i Should stay under that FSB
Look at this i tested
480x8 = 3840 1200 5-5-4-9 prime stable
after some days it does not boot if i leave it all nite off and NO METHOD works, just another ddr2 800 stick, and ERASING my previous CMOS VALUES
476x8 = 3808 1190 5-5-4-9 prime stable
after some days it does not boot if i leave it all nite off and JUST TAKING OUT
one Crucial stick boots again holding previous CMOS VALUES
So it seems that the near i get to the limit the hard the bios get stucked...
Now I'm on the pics settings (475x8 / 1188 5-5-4-9) a config tested form months now and no problem...

Whats the safest way to flash the BIOS for this board?
That would be EZ FLash via the bios mate (use an USB stick), if it doesn't post after the reboot, shut down he pc and start it up again... it should post then... I usually after it posts pop the Cmos battery for 5 mins so that all old settings are gone for sure
Kinda desperate here folks.
Flashed to 0812 yesterday and the board has since spontaneously died too.
It rebooted but after that no video post at all. All fans are working, the leds are ok, no diagnostic sound from bios, but it refuses to POST.
Sometimes when I flash the board it hangs for a few seconds but after a few reboots it come up normally (with all default settings), but this time seems different. I left the power card unplugged for several hours, removed the battery, clear cmos... everything I knew but... nothing!
What else can I try before cry? (EMO comment xD)
I had the same problem after trying to flash to 0812 from 0603. I ended up RMAing the board Asus sent me another board and guess what same problem. Its your memory. I went to the local comp store and picked up a cheap 1gig stick of super talent and she booted right up. Once she boots up change your mem volt/settings, then poweroff and put in your Uber mem sticks and it all should be fine. Make sure you try several different name brands of mem sticks if the first one doesnt work, my friend let me borrow a 1gig stick and she still wouldnt boot.. This board is finicky with ram on bootup.
Thanks vincey2kr1, but I only got that four sticks of Crucial Balistix 1066. I'll try to boot with one or two sticks only to see what happens. Worst case I will buy a cheap 1Gig as you said.
I love this board. Just bought another actually. It's Folding on an E3110 at 4ghz 24/7...love it. Using the latest BIOS no issues there for me. And I am running Team Xtreme DDR2 1300 (which boots at default voltage yay for me)...one of the easiest to OC most stable Folding rigs I have...

i agree with you about this board. i think this board like team Xtreem ram.i myself using xtreem ram no booting problem yet.

Fellas I really do not want to read this whole thread but I need help OCing a Q9300. I did read the first 6 pages but then realized that I have a different BIOS version than the thread starter has. Wow I installed this new BIOS and ran the exact same settings from the last BIOS, and so far 450 is stable. I did not adjust the two new setting, but my guess is that it is just a more stable release. The two added options are Clock Skew options for fine tuning timings between the buses on the board. When data flows out of sink from one another the system becomes unstable, By adjusting the Skew you can advance or delay the information sent down the transmission lines.
These options can help to increase stability at higher clocks.
Anyway I have to thank you Leeg for finding this, because it has already proven to be better IMO.

If you really think that I am gonna spend 12 hours reading this 76 page thread you are crazy. For me OCing is a hobby not a job, unfortunately I have A LOT of other responsibilities. On the other hand I guess I could take some time out of each day for the next 2 months just so that I can OC my PC a little bit more.
At any rate I find it easier and faster to ask for help from experienced people. I really didn't see any harm in asking but I forget that there are a lot of stubborn people that put out a lot of work here. I see where they are coming from but I don't see why they insist that EVERYONE learns the same way.
What I am saying is that I respect that you must have read massive amounts of post, articles and reviews to accomplish your OCing and understanding. Me personally I would like to skip the long stuff learn it all in layman's terms, by some one that enjoys the feeling of the pride they get for successfully help another person. Thank you very much for your suggestion. It is the way to go but I guess I am a bit to lazy, but I like to think of it as more efficient.
Has anybody had problems of their systems just randomly crashing? This problem only started happening when I added 2 more GB of RAM (4GB now). What happens is I'll leave my system on overnight and I'll wake up the next morning and I'll see that it's back at the login screen for windows because it had crashed and rebooted. I am running Crucial Ballistix memory and I have them @ 2.2V. I have tried updating the BIOS from 0404 to 0705 but no luck. Any suggestions?
try raise the s-b or n-b just a littlebit i used to run 4x1024mb ram and i had simular problems untill i figured it out, but can't remember if it were n-b or s-b:)
By s-b & n-b you mean north and south bridge voltage correct? right now they are set to auto. What voltage did you give your s-b & n-b?
Try 1.4 or even 1.55NB Danny, but you need to add some cooling to it plz... new bios also has some nice new features we found in the P5Q series... might be worth a try... 0812 bios ran fine with even 8Gb's of ram...
Is it possible that my MB just will not go any higher? I am stuck at 450... it's 100% stable but I would like to go higher like 475. I have tried adjusting the GTL's and the clock skew, the clock skew made it WAY unstable so I decided to leave it alone. I was able to get it stable fpr 15minutes longer than before but I cannot get over that hump for the life of me.
So, I've been out of the country for a year, and I just upgraded my bios to 0812 from 0404, and my OC wont stick anymore, not sure what the deal is, hopefully I can get some help. My most stable settings are currently: If you have a similar setup and wouldn't mind posting your bios settings, I would greatly appreciate it.

Good luck getting help, but IMO the 0812 was not a very good BIOS. Their is a newer BIOS and I think that it is a bit more stable. Give it a try and post back what you get on your OC.
Alright, flashing to 0902 worked like a charm. Here are my current settings, any suggestions to fine tune? Ambient temp is about 30c. Going to run a stress test over night.

CPU PLL at 1.6 maybe lads or a tiny bit more Vcore can help too.. also I ran NB at 0.63x or even 0.61x with high FSB with the quads...(don't shoot me if not correct, P5K dlx is a long time ago... I miss it's simplicity ) and 4gb ( 2 x 2 Gb ) add trfc 55 plz if not autodetected by the bios
I'm running 4/1gb Sticks, does that change anything? Should I try and decrease the Vcore? Also, I have my FSB Strap set to auto, should I manually set that to 266 when running 450*8?Quote:

this were the settings for a suicide shot. Also I was able to boot at 580-585 with only 1.25v in the northbridge :eek:. Im doing some OCCT test now to see how far I can go with this minimum voltage in the northbridge :D
