What have you got FSB and memory set at currently in your BIOS. 1:1 to me for example is setting FSB to 400 and running memory at DDR800. Post your current BIOS settings vrcore , MCH etc- you are hardly o/c your CPU. Its same batch as mine and they can normally clock a lot higher.Whats the rest of your setup PSU etc?
Surely he means 3.75Ghz in his sig as 1.4V for 2.75Ghz for a 29b is very very poor!!!!
I will be jealous if he is and on air!

I would not like to overclock till extreme stage. My intention is to run my vCOre at around 3.00Ghz-3.20Ghz and memory at 900-1000Mhz. I tried many times, but failed to get to that stage. Anyone please help me.
Quick question... I've got trouble getting the eSata to hot-swap. Anyone else had this problem? What's the solution??

I havent... When i installed windows it was set to IDE mode.. and I cant boot the machine (gets some BSOD while windows logo is up) if I put it into AHCI (didnt want to reinstall windows unless it was necessary)...
Also, while I'm here, you guys get problems with the Firewire controllers ?
The first time I installed windows the firewire was going haywire... I'd boot and it'd detect the controller.... but install it like 40+ times, which in turn would lead to a BSOD (driver stack overload or something of sorts)
I discovered that to fix this problem, I had to disconnect the front firewire cable, boot the machine, delete all the extra controller drivers, and then close the machine, plug the wire back in again... and boot, and everything'd be happy.
Odd thing though, these things only happened after installing any kind of infrared driver in it (once it was the remote that came w/.. the other time was another program, but was still using the same reciever)..

Your boot drive ( the drive containing your windows installation ) is connected on the Jmicron controller ?
Where's your boot drive connected to ?
The Intel ICH7R ports ? ( SATA1/SATA3/SATA4 ) or on the Jmicron ( black SATA slot under the heatpipe next to the CPU socket ) ?
All 3 of my hdd's are WD Caviar 320gb SATA. one's in the nextar, the other 2, including the one with my windows installation, are on the intel ICH7R ports...
So, first off let me apologize for a small oversight, I can put only the jmicron into AHCI mode (this wasnt the case before... I flashed my bios just a few days ago.)
Problem remains... the drive doesnt hotswap, and while having the jmicron in AHCI mode, I loose all the IDE controllers... Both my dvd burners (samsung 18x PATA, 1 hooked up to the ICH7R IDE controller, the other in the jmicron one) are non-operational.
I take it you have checked the meory with memtest86 to check it is okay. Disable memory spead in Jumper free and virtulisastion in CPU configuration if you havent done so. Your CPU will easy do 3.0-3.2 probably on stock volts and your memory should certainly do 1000. Try FSB 333 and Memory at 999with looser timmings of 5,5,5,15. You can use memset to tighten once booted if it will let you. If it wont boot try it with SPD enabled. I posted a couple of references a few days ago to other posts about 4:5 and 2:3 memory settings. You can have problems with TRD=6 but normally only with high FSB.
So, you're using the ICH7R for your 2 internally connected HDDs, and you've installed windows with the ICH7R Controller Mode set to "IDE" ( @ IDE Configuration @ BIOS main page ). Ok then ;)
And when you set ONLY the Jmicron ( under Onboard Devices ) controller mode to AHCI you lose BOTH ( ? ) Optical drives, even the one connected on the PATA Controlled by ICH7R ?
That's weird, and shouldn't happen at all.
Do the following:
Set Jmicron to IDE mode again, get into Windows, go to Device Manager, and uninstall the Jmicron controller.
Shutdown, and get into BIOS, and set the Jmicron to AHCI.
Boot into Windows, and install the Jmicron controller drivers again ( use the latest ones from Jmicron's website ).
Do you still lose the dvd-/+rw on the ICH7R ?
And last but not least, which BIOS version are you using ?

May I know which setting to disable the memory speed in Jumper Free configuration? By the way, I have got a ratio of 2:3 (CPUZ) from the above setting. How to tighten by using memtest to get 1:1 ratio? Anyone help please!!
Sorry - I meant disable memory remap in chipset in the BIOs. Why do you want 1:1.? Your memory is rated to 1066Mhz without overclocking. Your current 2:3 it utilising the memory properly and giving greater bandwidth. To run 1:1 at your current speed you would set memory to 666. This will reduce memory bandwidth and seriously underutilise it - you may be able to run tighter timings but what a waste. Unless you are upping the FSB past 400 to run 1:1 you may as well have bought some cheap 5300 memory. What you should be doing with that CPU and memory is get the FSB higher and use either a 2:3 or 4:5 ratio to get the most out of what you have got. You will need higher vcore and MCH as you up the FSB and memory speed to maintain the stability of the o/c Check your stablity woth Orthos and Superpi. Refer to 1 post on the thread for detail if you get keen to try overclocking higher.
Ok, BenchZowner, we're definately getting somewhere. Following your instructions, I've got the ODD running off the ICH IDE channel working again,, but this only happened after installing the jmicron driver... rather odd..
Furthermore, the ODD running off the jmicron IDE no longer works... to get the computer to even See the drive I have to go into device manager and tell it to scan for new hardware... drive gets detected... but works extremely unrelliably, lags the entire explorer especially in the mycomputer... and yeah, it uninstalls everytime I reboot! So for now no 2nd ODD.
The bright news however is that the vantec is hotswapping... There,s a 3sec. or so system freeze when powering it on, which I read somewhere else as Normal behaviour, the time that the SATA controller recognizes what's on the other end..
So if we can get that ODD to work now, it'd be really great... Cause yeah I could plug it as slave to the ICH IDE.. but the extra bandwith by using both controllers is phenominal, especially when I'm burning 2 DVD's simultaniously.
And, to answer your question, I updated the bios from version 13xx (forgot the number) to 1901.. As 1901 is the latest non-beta driver according to the asus website. :)
As ODD things keep on happening, do the following magic trick, switch the DVD-/+RW drives ( swap the drives, take the DVD burner off the ICH7R & connect it to the Jmicron IDE, and take the DVD burner off the Jmicron and connect it to the ICH7R IDE )

As simplistic and might have worked kind of solution you proposed, it unfortunately didnt work.. Awaiting your next idea. I'm fresh out for now... Updated the drive's firmware but to no avail.
My oh my don't I feel a bit silly... and alot more wise tonight!
As it turns out, running it in Basic mode was the key... the other key : the jmicron driver.
Seeing how I couldnt get the ODD to work, I took a stroll down the manual, many sites.. a few hours later anyways it struck me "hey, what if I put it back to basic and try with that new shiny driver?"
And guess what? It works, as advertised, now :)

Another new guy to the forums with similar questions to every other new guy.
Hopefully you guys can give me some pointers, although I think I have checked my system over pretty good.
I'm having a hard time overclocking my system. As you can see, I can only really hit 3.0 GHz. Beyond that things go south. Here is what I have done:
B2 stepping if it matters.
FSB voltage 1.4
MCH voltage 1.75
Mem voltage 2.2
ICH voltage 1.4??
I have tested the memory using the 3.0 GHz CPU setting and they hold to 900MHz. Fair enough for 800 MHZ memory. I have not tried higher yet, but at least I wanted to confirm my problem is not in the memory.
I have also tried the 1901 and 2004 bios's and can confirm that the 1707 allows for a little more CPU overclocking than those two. I can squeeze 3.15 but felt I should drop back a step for security. In the 1901-2004 bios's I can do a 333FSB but any higher and the system dies. With 1707 I can get a FSB of around 360 before things die. Just a word of strangeness in reversing the bios. When I renamed the 1707 bios P5WDH.ROM, it would not flash using small caps, but did flash using upper case script. Strange as there should be no diff. Anyhow, it can be done in case anyone is asking. I suspect the differences are in where the strapping is set.
So far my temperatures seem to be in the low 40's (C) while pushed so I don't think there is an issue there. I don't seem to be having any issues with my cd rom's or DVD rom/writers (I have 2 of them, LG and Pioneer). I did upgrade the firmware in both of them though. The Pioneer really needed it as it had poor writes on different media.
I see that a bunch of you have increased the CPU voltage to 1.5v. When did you have to bump the voltage that high? When you crossed the 333 boundary? It was scary how particular the system was back on the 1901-2004 bios's when I crossed from 333 to 335.
I would have thought I should be able to hit higher numbers than I am.
Also, one other note. I was over on the OCZ memory forum where the discussion came up on whether it was worth setting the memory above the 1:1 ratio. IE my system clocks to a FSB of 333 and that sets the memory at 667. I ran tests there and the same tests with increasing the memory to a speed of 800. The argument was that there would be no value to setting the memory at higher rates because the CPU could only process the data to a maximum of double the processor speed. In any case my 3Dmark scores on the first run was something like 6200 while the second run was closer to 6700. Enough of a difference that it was worth doing.

#1, unless you have a certain few types of ram that will do it, you must use SPD over 360 fsb or so.
#1a, having 4 sticks of memory will limit your overclock a bit.
#2, From my experience if you put too much voltage into you chipset things get a little flaky.

I dunno about MCH voltage, it's kinda weird for me... used to be fine with mch 1.65v @ 400fsb but after overclocking to 425fsb @ 1.75v mch for a few hours with a subsequent crash I need 1.75v mch to run 400fsb (425 no longer works :( )
AHolland, I'd suggest looking into NB/SB cooling mod, which involves taking off the stock heatsinks and replacing factory thermal compound (dry stuff) with AS5 or something like that.
