Impressive 6200 Overclocks

Even Apollo's website doesn't list a ram speed. I hope they let me exchange this thing also. I'd be getting the more expensive ASUS 6200 so I don't see what they have to lose but a customer.

Apollo's website doesn't even list a speed for the memory so I really have nothing to go on other than newegg's description.

EDIT: Just got off the phone with newegg, they are going to give me a full refund for my card. I think I'm going to pick up a ASUS 6200 from them now.

there seems to be a bug in the Sparkle temp monitoring as the lowest it ever goes is 36C. When I bench at 1.72v and 685Mhz all I see is a dead flat line at 36C as the temp is actually lower than that.

Temp of coolant is -20C.

I am severely bandwidth limited at present, stupid memory .. 2.92v and only 714 when some people are hitting 800 :rolleyes:

You may need some cooling on the DDR module. I can reach 743MHz at 2.72V and they become quite hot, so you may have a thermal issue there

Seems to be a driver issue as well, changing driver reduced the minimum reported temp to 29C before it "stuck"

My memory is pretty cool, at least to touch, maybe just a chip not so good.

Do you guys think is better putting Artic Silver 5 or use the paste that comes with the Zalman VF700?

I orginally bought a Sparkle 6200 AGP 128MB so I could compete in the 6200 class. When it arrived it was the Sparkle 6600 AGP 128MB. I should have guessed as they were the only people in the UK who had the 6200.

So I benched it and half way through dropped it and killed it. So I ordered another Sparkle 6600 AGP 128MB and completed the benching and all was happy in the Land of Andy

My suppliers have now got in Sparkle 6200 and 6600 AGP so they must have finally got the 6200's and not the 6600. So I ordered one of those and it arrived yesterday.

Says 6200 on the receipt
Says 6200 on a sticker on the box

So it's a ... 6600 .............. aaaaarrrrghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh


Now, if I was ordering a 6200 expecting a 6200 I would be most happy, but as I am not i am most unhappy. Everything is unhappy in the Land of Andy.

This 6600 is weird. It does 750Mhz RAM ... yeah baby !

But does 420Mhz core .. sob sob ....

I shall investigate further but in the meantime I have given up and ordered a Gigabyte card. I would have gone for the Asus but that is a known quantity with Peter Lu now so I thought I would add to the knowledge pool for 6200's and let people know how these do ( unless I have missed the threads and 100 Gigabyte owners now pipe up ! )

I still say that you are justified in benching your 6600 as a 6200, if you can successfully change the ID. I want to let everyone reading this thread know that Andy's card is exactly the same pcb and memory as my 6200(PNY)......short pcb, extends about 1/2" past agp clip, 'spag43' printed on pcb, hynix 3.6s, etc.

Well I was tempted Jay but I've decided to use it as excuse to buy yet another card :D I'm such a whore for unwrapping that nice shiny box and then smelling the brand new card. Although, to be true, I am now having to have them be delivered to work and sneak them into the house so my wife does not suspect.

The sad thing is that even if I can get this current Sparkle 6600 to work at 680/750 it still will not beat a 6600 with 2ns memory at 550/1100, such is the memory bandwidth limitation. Oh well.

If i remember correctly how number should be read, it seems to be a NV45.
It can also be a NV44 (0445A2) but for sure it's not a NV43.

That '0445' refers to the 45th week of '04 for a production date.

It looks to be the right size for NV43 or possibly NV44. Is there even such a thing as a NV45??

nv45 is nv40 with native PCIe support AFAIK.

If that is an Asus GE card the chip is on then that would be nv43 core.

16 pipes v 4 or 8
256 bit memory bus v 128 bit bus

You'd need a 6200 or 6600 at 800/1800 to beat the GT's.

How does the 9550 Speedy Edition perform against a 6600?
