May i ask if somebody actually could do a 333mhz mod on a E2160 ? If so could I get a nice picture to see what i have to connect ?
I hardly reach 3.6ghz on my QuadGT with this cpu so i m hoping with BSEL Mod to reach some higher FSB or at least a stable 3.6ghz.
For 800-to-1333MHz FSB, you'll have to make BOTH the 800-to-1066MHz and 1066-to-1333MHz mods.
There are several topics on the 800->1066MHz mod, so you just need to check on that.
Also, I believe somewhere on this thread there was a user who actually made exactly what you want to do. I don't remember where exactly, though... This thread is huge...
Btw, BSEL mods seldom result in improved OCs... Or, even if they do result in improved OCs, the upper strap memory latency settings will probably negate any small speed gains you can get... Well, at least it's what I've read about straps and FSB... usually the lower "upper-strap" MHz are slower (memory-wise) than the upper "lower-strap" ones...

Sounds good, i check on the 1066 first. I have an ABiT QuadGT 965 Board where i can set the CPU Straps in teh BIOS. Thing is even though the Board is capable of 1333mhz CPU's after Bios Update i don't get a Strap for that. I also have seen somebody modded a E6600 to 1333mhz and that didn't work out to well for this board. I have to look into it.Quote:

My QX9650 make it into windows and BIOS at default vcore on 3.6Ghz but not stable doh.

Also, keep in mind your particular CPU might have a wall below the 400MHz FSB, and you WILL need extra cooling, and most likely more voltage to the core. Though I suspect you knew that much already :p

Hi - this may sound a bit strange but I also want to force my CPU to run at 1333 FSB... Thing is, it is a QX9770 and it's default is 1600. The reason I want to do this is to run it on my ABIT IP35 PRO and the BIOS doesn't work nicely currently...Any chance of this working?
give it a shot. the technique will be different since the bsels are starting from a different value. try it out and report back
fwiw, is there a newer bios that supports 1600fsb?
and even still, have you just tried the qx9770? does it not post as is? i worry it might not boot if the ucode isn't recognizable
QX9770 on an IP35 PRO will boot with the latest BIOS but I can't enter the BIOS. It errors on me when I try. To change memory strap etc I have to put my old E6600 back in. I was hoping that with thf FSB at 1333 It might let me into the BIOS. I'm currently running 385 FSB with a 10.5 multi for 4GHz. The XE version of the MB was able to run FSB1600 default processors. The plain IP35 PRO version never officially supported the QX9770. Would it be risky to try the FSB1333 mod on this chip?
You might want to either force the BIOS to 1333MHz with another CPU first, and then pop in the QX9770, OR find out exactly which is the correct version of this mod for underclocking.
This mod if for overclocking the default FSB from 1066MHz to 1333MHz, and only those CPUs will see the benefit. That's because the pins (pads, since we're talking socket 775 here...) that control the FSB have specific high and low states for each FSB. Using this mod on a 1600MHz FSB CPU will either do nothing at all or damage it (which is not a great idea since we're talking about a €1000 part...).
So, first get to know the state your FSB pads are in 1600MHz FSB mode. Then, check out how they should be for 1333MHz. Last, but not least, tape up any of the pads that needs to be set to low (0) if it's now high (1), and trace a link to a Vtt (if memory serves me right) pad nearby if it's low and needs to be high.
