We learned that Intel is about to release a new stepping for its Yorkfield quad core CPUs. The name will be R0-stepping and this new stepping should be better than the current C1-stepping.

The new stepping will arrive with a new batch of Yorkfield CPUs and let’s hope that this will increase the yields and efficiency of a pair of dual core 45nm stitched together into a quad core socket 775 CPU.

As we still don’t know what kind of improvement you should expect from it, we're expect slightly better TDP and thermals, but this doesn’t have to be the case.

Lets hope it will bring us a bit higher FSB clocks :P I think i need to wait untill the Q9650 drops in price. Or get a Q9550 and take the risk that i get stuck at 3600-3800 aswell :)

Hi ..

I have tried increasing the NB to 1.45v(1.49v) and Vcore to 1.2500 (1.23v)in the BIOS, but the BSOD still happens. Is there a settings that could be casuing this? as i don't think it will need much more volts for this small overclock.

I can run prime for hours and it wont crash or give errors, but i get a BSOD on boot up, but it wont happen all the time and i sometimes i get it by just browsing the net.

Any suggestions on what settings to change would be much appreciated,

Isn't your latencies a little too tight for 4*1gig ram?

no thats their rated spec and have always worked at that even with 4 sticks.. I was looking through google and found a article saying that Loadline Calibration can casue problems ...i've disabled it, but get a little more Vdroop, but hopefully it was that it was causing it. As i find it odd i can run prime for hours and hours and get a BSOD while doing nothing :/ .

What is the BSOD error? That should tell you something.

I never heard of LLC making things worse, it supposed to make it BETTER.

I usually get rid of BSOD error by increasing the vCore and/or VTT and PLL voltages; but it does vary from board to board.

Increase DRAM volt to 2.20v. I've never seen any DDR2 800MHz stick running at 4-4-4-12 that would require less than 2.00v to stay stable.

That and I think you need to go with 1.51v on your Northbridge. Why? Because 4 sticks of RAM running at 4-4-4-12 is a lot for the Northbridge to take.

Exactly my point...

Looks like a memory issue yes? If the sticks are stable at those speeds (drop multi on PCU and find out), up that NB like others have said.

I'm happy, My new Q9450 idles at 23C on mainly all cores. On max load it peaks out at 42-48C.

What kind of cooling are you using, if I may ask? I had mine watercooled, and it idled about 32-35C, and went up to 49C under full load [Prime95 running 4 threads].

Air Cooling. With 60F Ambient. I knew you guys would doubt me, Just like if you look at my SuperPI 1m record, You would too, I used air cooling on that. with a -10F Ambient.

Instead of taunting us with a golden Q9450 that can achieve what almost no other can, why don't you crank the voltage to 1.35-1.4v and really see what it can do?? Oh, and if I said I was not extremely jealous that about your Q9450 doing 3.6GHz below the stock voltage of my Q9450, I'd be lying.

The voltage reading is correct after vdroop I use a Maximus formula X38 flashed rampage bios 0403. The vcore set in bios is 1.275v and it drops to 1.216v load that I am counting as vcore? My intentions was not to taunt u I was only showing what my new cpu could do. I booted windows in 4ghz 1.4v vios set but it requiers insane vBN voltage and it is not that stable either I can run a 3dmark06 perhaps if I am lucky. T

he other problem I have is that I am running 4 sticks of ram that means I really need to push the vNB alot to not get thoose random reboots in Vista but with 2 ram sticks it is eaiser to overclock and get it stable. 475 fsb with 4 sticks is ok though and my cpu is completly stable prime blend with 1.28v vcore after vdroop 1.3v in bios set. Need 1.55v + on vNB though for 475 fsb which is bad imo :P

Could someone please recommend me some settings i shoud change/look at to get my chip stable at 3.6 plz. I can get my chip stable at 3.55 with 1.35 or so vcore 10hours+ prime just fine. Thinking it could be this motherboard :( I can boot up into windows with 3.6 but prime can only last for about 5-10min then freeze up.. Temps seem to be fine doesnt matter how high i put the vcore. always stays under 62C. Ive even tried to give cpu 1.435v but still freezes.

As far as voltage needed, with my CPU all it needs is 1.36v. Try running your RAM with a divider to see if the RAM you have is supported on that board at 1800Mhz. But seriously, you shouldn't need more than 1.36 - 1.38v to the CPU to make it 3.6Ghz stable. I get mine to 3.2Ghz at just 1.20v [set in BIOS, shows 1.168v in CPU-Z 1.45]. I can run at 3.2Ghz with the RAM on 1:1; but for me to be stable at 3.6Ghz I have to divide my RAM [5:8 I think] so that it gets below 1600Mhz [runs at 1350Mhz]. Hopefully my woes go away with the new board I ordered, the Foxconn BlackOps. Previous board does not like my RAM at any speed beyond 1600Mhz with 4 sticks on the board.

Ok... well thats still a damn good chip :) I need 1.40625v for 3.6GHz, and ~1.45v for 3.8GHz. I can POST but not boot at 4.0GHz. I also have 4 sticks of RAM, 2gb x4.

I honestly think that is overkill voltage. You shouldn't need that much on the vCore. What are your PLL, VTT voltages set to 003?

My average chip being pushed to it's limits.... Could those of you running high fsbs on your maximuses/rampages post your settings?

I made a typo, I meant to say I can POST but not boot at 4.0GHz.

Anyway, PLL and VTT and vNB seem to have little to no effect.

PLL is at 1.58v, VTT at 1.28v and vNB at 1.35v. I can also get stable with stock PLL and VTT and lower (but not stock) vNB ... I just have them bumped up a bit to ensure stability.

Increasing them seems to have almost no effect for me stability wise. I agree my voltage is a lot, but I have 8GB of RAM @ DDR2 1083 keep in mind, and my chip may not be the best. Also, I have not touched GTL settings.

In my case, I was unable to get any stabilty until I raised the PLL and VTT voltage on my P5E3 Premium. I had them at 1.50v/1.10v for 3.2Ghz, then 1.60v/1.20 for 3.4Ghz, then 1.70v/1.30v for 3.6Ghz. I raised the voltage in increments of .04 and did a final raise of .02 to round off the total [silly compulsion I have]. I know 3.4Ghz works on 1.58v/1.18v but 3.6Ghz was shaky until 1.70v/1.30v.

Did you ever try lowering the PLL after you got stable? Because in my case it really seems to have made very little difference. Is PLL dangerous for 45nm?
