Asrock P67 Extreme4 UEFI & Drivers thread [Extreme6 & Pro3 owners welcome]

Anyone else running a Sata3 Sandforce 2281 SSD and this motherboard?

I've recently added one - Corsair GT series. Had great results with a OCZ Vertex 2LE (Sata2) and performance appears to be almost double with the second generation Corsair (Sata3). Not that you'd notice... but thats another issue and I dumped the OCZ into a new netbook anyway.

Had 1 BSOD but think that was just an old driver issue. Seems fine now. The BSOD seems to be related more to your hardware/mobo than anything else so thought I'd check here for issues.

With some of the latest drivers, I haven't had any issues. Same goes for the Z68.

Ket did you disable the aggresive link state option in the Bios under the ACHI?

I've just had my second BSOD - stutter, freeze then Crash. Without doubt related to the SSD.

I've also added to registry with:-

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\servic es\iaStor\Parameters\Port0]
"LPM"=dword:00000000
"LPMDSTATE"=dword:00000000
"DIPM"=dword:00000000

Might enable BIOS LPM if I go freeze free for a few days. Weird never had these issues with Gen 1 sandforce.

My P67 Fatality is still suffering sleep resume to black screen. Has any one gotten that to work with any particular setting? Thanks.

1. I don't have any SSDs to test with :(
2. On the boards I have tested, and what some other users have tested, sleep works just fine. If you are having trouble resuming from sleep you must be OC'd, in which case the problem is with your OC.

my p67 fatal1ty with light/mild overclock(4200) sleeps and resumes ok (Ati 6950 vga if has anything to do), all power savings options enabled, o/c with offset vcore. If you need some specific page screenshot with settings, feel free to ask.

Check the UEFI settings for onboard sound. Set them to "enabled"

Is this a separate setting from "HD Audio" on the north(south) bridge? I've already disassembled my machine to RMA it, but if that is really the solution to my problem then I will put it back together. I guess I'll try it anyway, I hope your solution wasn't just an offhand joke!

It's weird that after 8 months after releasing the board we can't use bundle bracket with extra USB 3.0 ports.

The USB front panel works fine, it just seems to have a performance issue which is likely driver related and thus, just have to wait for Etron to fix it.

Okay, I reassembled the machine. The only setting I see in the UEFI is "Onboard HD Audio" as shown in this screenshot. It was enabled by default, but I'm still not having any sound and a constant high pitched buzz emitted from whatever audio output device I try to use.

My external HDD has got LED. It becomes Blue when USB 3.0 mode is active (back ports), and Green when USB 2.0 mode is on (front ports). It's not simply performance issue. I would call it fake USB 3.0.

Does anybody else have an issue with the offset voltage where it seems to ignore the offset you've set while under load? No matter what offset I put it's giving the CPU 1.43V under load, whether I put +0.5 or +0.75 it's always loading it out there for some bizarre reason. Really obnoxious since I just want it to be 1.4V flat under load and let it drop otherwise.

I'm using BIOS 1.8. What I have noticed when using offset voltage, is that the loadline calibration that you select, has a significant impact on cpu voltage when the cpu is under full load. A LLC of 3, maintains my cpu voltage at 1.46 when using 0.65 offset voltage. A LLC of 2, spikes voltage to 1.5, using 0.65 offset voltage.

What I have done is target my stable voltage at a given multiplier using fixed voltage, then tried to duplicate that max voltage using the LLC & offset voltage together to get the desired max cpu voltage. In my case, I run my cpu at 100x48, LLC 3, offset voltage = 0.65. I see a max cpu voltage of 1.46 V under load. On rare occasion when running Linx, I'll see a spike of 1.47 V. Otherwise my cpu sees 1.45-1.46V under normal loads, ie, gaming, BOINC.

Edit: I also utilize turbo voltage to maintain stability once I've targeted my stable fixed voltage. The turbo voltage can help to yield that little bit extra rather than spiking the voltage very high.

All voltages are monitored using the ASRock Extreme Tuner. A DMM may tell a different story. I have not measured voltages on this board directly.

Radier, I have no problems with USB 3.0 front panel that came with the motherboard. Everything is working fine and my HDD has the same speed no matter if I use front or rear USB 3.0 (around 60-80MB/s).

Has anyone had issue with the onboard sound giving out? Mine stopped working the other day. Strange thing is windows sees the audio and anything plugged or unplugged from the rear audio jacks. If you play music or a YT video, the bar graph shows it playing, but nothing out. Plug a mic in an it shows a mic plugged in, but nothing in. I of course made sure onboard HD is turned on. I even re-flashed the BIOS to another level. Tried using the front panel audio header, still nothing. No change. I then loaded the OS on to a clean HD I have. No change. I really don't want to RMA so a sound card it is :-/

There is an Extreme BIOS section, but it's not very populated. If you start something there, you may want to reference it here so people with these boards will see the thread notice.

nvm I had a misconfiguration of a SATA setting.

In good news, the switch from a Corsair A50 to a H100 has taken my 4.4 OC from 70 degrees to 58, and that's on the lowest fan setting and push only. Plenty of room to keep going if I desire, while staying very quiet.

Forget the bios mod, whilst it successfully injected slic 2.1, there was too many BSODs & I couldn't access my DVD burner.

Edit: It wasn't OCed.

I got a very noobish question, but has to get a answer before I get my rig (tomorrow):

About the drivers, which one (or all of them) should I install after I've installed Win7 64bit? I'm looking at this page Asrock homepage. Or is the driver package at the first post here in this thread enough and contains all the necessary drivers?

Try placing a copper heatsink over the Realtek audio IC, this will limit electronic crosstalk and might solve your issue.

It could simply be a compatibility issue. Check to see if there are any updated firmwares for your device.

Get all the latest drivers from the necessary sources (Asrock don't have the latest drivers listed on their site) and install in this order;

Chipset (PCH) drivers
Etron drivers
Graphics drivers
Audio drivers

Then just install any other drivers for any other devices you may have.

Just DLed that package. How on earth should these drivers be installed? Eg. that PCH driver or the realtek, do I have to copy/paste those files into some folder or can I only run the Setup.exe (the realtek driver doesn't got any setup.exe-file)?

You are doing this for the first time or what?

Just put the CD into drive and procced with auto installation because manual path is a Yedi path and you are definately not a Yedi... :f

I wouldn't want to go with the CD, because the drivers there are probably old. So it would be nice to go with the newest drivers from the start. But hey, if my question bug you so much, you don't need bother to answer at all...

The package on the first page is fairly up to date yes, I need to make a new package with all the newest drivers. Just run the Setup.exe file for each driver and you will be fine. The setup file for the Realtek driver is in there, you just missed it ;)

Can't speak for ket's driver package, but all of the drivers on the official site have setup.exe files. I believe some of the subsequent drivers posted here just have inf files, which isn't noob friendly. You'd be best served just grabbing the drivers off of the offciial site

It wasn't the modded bios causing the BSODs, I've been hit by the Intel SATA 2 bug, HDD not bootable by this morning. I'm now connected to SATA 3 & running perfectly.

I want to connect my DVD burner to SATA 6, is there preferred slots for DVD & HDD, or it doesn't matter?

EDIT: Burner connected, running modded UEFI 1.9 with SLIC 2.1, looking good so far.

In Ket's driver collection, the Realtek RTL8111E v7.046 Driver is the only one that lacks a setup.exe file. The setup.exe file for the EtronTech EJ168A USB 3.0 Driver v1.1 is in the \InstallShield\Regular Installation\ directory.

Thats the Ethernet driver ;) to install that you need to go to the Device Manager (Right-click "computer", click "properties", then in the "system" window that pops up click "device manager") Once there look for any devices with a exclamation mark, double-click them, click the "driver" tab, then click "update driver" and browse to the location you have extracted the drivers to. Windows will then install the driver :up:

FYI folks, I'm updating the driver packages now for both P67 and Z68 boards. The packages include the installer version of all the drivers to make things easy for n00bies. On the downside, the package sizes are bigger.

What do you guys have your various power settings set to in UEFI? I've read conflicting reports that disabling Speedstep or C-States can harm/help HDD performance. I do like having the core and clock idle down when it's not needed. I guess that's Speedstep. What effect do the other power saving settings have?

Just leave every power saving options enabled. I have no problem with reaching sky high OC and rocket speed SSD performance.

Just messing around with it, the power states absolutely affect writes. An easy test for this is to run whatever CPU stress test you like while running AS-SSD. Then run AS-SSD again while idle. Writes take a substantial hit. It's not important, since SSDs are all about reads. But my 4k write saw a 50% increase while running Lynx

Uninstall what drivers you can, then install the new driver. In the case of chipset drivers just install on top of them.

Hi, anyone was able to use on ASRock P67 Extreme 6 rev B3, those memories on default specifications?

I tried also Vcccio up to 1,15V, and same...

Bios is P1.70

Have you tested the sticks individually with HCI memtest with the system at stock to make sure you don't have a bad stick?

If both sticks work flawless at 2133Mhz ar 1,55-1,57 volts for 8.10.10.26/1T, I think they are OK.

Same voltage for 1866 Mhz with 6.10.10.26/1T

For anybody experiencing slow USB3 performance via the front panel it may be unrelated but with Etron drivers 1.105 and 1.104 front USB3 support is broken with the USB devices I tried, go back to Etron driver 1.101.

It seems that Asrock is not proposing any Bios Update for the P67 extreme 6 anymore: we are stuck at the 1.7 version while the extreme 4 is reaching 2.1...

That's one of the reasons why I went with the Extreme4--it's a popular board still making money for ASRock, which means it's more likely to keep them fixing problems with it. IMO manufacturers are churning out way too many models that they then have no financial motivation to properly support. The marketing mindset says "more models that appeal to more consumers means more money." Which translated means tech support = fail.

Less is more. Build fewer models that get better, longer-term tech support, and watch what happens.

No want in any way to boot at 2133Mhz, the replaced SSD was Team Xtreem SSD G1, , with that, no problem with memories at 2133Mhz 8.10.10.28...

I doubt you'll find any modified UEFI for your Extreme6 anywhere on the web, and you shouldn't be using one if it did exist anyway (IMO way too risky). So the latest official UEFI is the L1.85 beta from ASRock on the Extreme6's "Beta" page:

I'm having problems with my USB 3.0 Drivers.

Motherboard: ASRock P67 Fatal1ty Professional
Drivers (Before): 0.96 > 0.105
Drivers (Now): 0.89

They are causing multiple BSOD and have been since day 1. They got worse after using 2 Lian-Li EX-503 Enclosures with USB 3.0 Connection. One would drop out and go under 'Unknown Device' and the other would connect/disconnect every 5 seconds. The mouse Fatal1ty port would cause a BSOD every 20 minutes, even untouched polling rate or adjusted. I have installed 0.96/0.98/0.101/0.104/0.105 - They have all caused BSOD in under an hour (0.104/0.105 = Worst). But my temporary solution is drivers 0.89, they have stopped BSOD's and don't have any conflicts or issues with anything USB 3.0 that's connected. Also the newer drivers have major issues with USB 2.0 products as they don't install or work (WiFi Adapter, Other hard drive enclosures, Headphones (USB), etc.

CPU PLL Voltage is minimum setable in bios so is 1,586 volts

What is the maximum safe value for multiplier (CPU ratio, actually is 100Mhz with 48X for 4800Mhz)?

If I set 102 or 103, or 105 Mhz, etc, for overclock memory lowering by example at x47 or x46 ratio?
I want to have by example memory at 2200Mhz cas8, or 22xx cas 8, but for this need bigger than 100Mhz...
So let's say 105 Mhz is safe for 24/7 use?
No want more than 4800Mhz for cpu.

I've got really different answers to this question; what LLC level "should" be used when OC'ing with offset mode? Some say 4 or 5, some say 2 or 3. What is the most "stable" level to go with? The goal is to get the vcore in load as spot on as possible what it is set in BIOS, right?

Here is some data that I've collected. The stock VID when running prime95 is 1.261 according to real temp. When I've the system OC'ed at 4.5Ghz, the VID goes up to 1.3661 while my Vcore is bobbing between 1.312, 1.320 and 1.328. I've stated that my CPU needs 1.320 to be stable. In BIOS I've +0.020 and LLC level at 4. So is this ok? Or should I set my LLC level at 2 or 3, and put the offset at something like -0.050 to achieve that 1.320 in load?

Hopefully you guys understand what I'm after here :)

I am using LLC 4.

My VID in idle is 0,965-1V and in load 1,361-1,4161V

This is a issue I bought up a few weeks or so ago, Etron 1.104/105 drivers are buggy. Switch back to 1.101 drivers and most of your issues at least should go away.

Maximum BCLK will vary depending on the CPU and other hardware in the system. I've got 104.5MHz stable before, but there are some users where 101MHz isn't even stable. Generally, I set BCLK to 100.1, and leave it at that. This way you get as good as exact numbers to work with, something you won't get when leaving BCLK @ 100 due to minor clock generator variations.

LLC 3 seems to work best for me.
But I need to do more testing.

Maximum BCLK will vary depending on the CPU and other hardware in the system. I've got 104.5MHz stable before, but there are some users where 101MHz isn't even stable. Generally, I set BCLK to 100.1, and leave it at that. This way you get as good as exact numbers to work with, something you won't get when leaving BCLK @ 100 due to minor clock generator variations.

Adjusting BCLK pushes a lot of other busses out of whack, while 104-105MHz may be stable, I wouldn't recommend running higher than 102-103MHz 24/7.

Thank you, so 102 BCLK is safe for 24/7 use, with no other overvoltages in bios (set on auto, and measured like in upper printscreen), excluding VCore set at 1,29 volts in bios.

I've been reading this thread for what seems ages, but seem to have become a loungeroom expert: when it's finally come time to do something I'm a bit confused on some very basic stuff.

If I have a 2600k for example, it clocks at 34 x 100 = 3.4GHz, and turbos to 3.8GHz, and will speedstep down to 1.6GHz

Now if I make its multiplier 42, what does that do? Will it run at 4.2GHz and then turboboost up from there? Or is 42 the maximum turbo it will get to, and it'll run at 42 - 4 = 38 multiplier and turbo up from there, or will it just run at 4.2GHz and not turbo at all, but will still step down to 1.6GHz sometimes.

I feel sort of embarrassed writing this, but the only foolish questions are the ones never asked, or something like that :)

I was planning on getting a p67 Extreme4 gen 3. Alot of users have the non Gen 3 board however. Is there some advantage to the non Gen 3 board? Also I was planning on this memory: F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL. I did not see it specifically listed on Asrocks support page. I did see plenty of G skill with similar model numbers. Probably fine right?

Oh. What did you guys do to fix that SB heatsink by the way?

If the multiplier is on 42 then when the load is important you get 4200MHz. Rest of the time, you got 1600MHz and also some variations regarding the load.
That's the maximum and you got no turbo so if you set 42 that means 4200MHz (not 3800), when idle that's 1600MHz, all depend on load.

As Olivion said, but to expand on what he said a bit, it depends what the system is going to be used for. If the system will be a gaming system it could be to your advantage to disable all CPU power saving features, this way the CPU will constantly run at whatever the multiplier is set to so you won't experience any slowdowns in older games that are more system dependent but the CPU doesn't deem them "challenging enough" and speedsteps down.

You should be fine with that G.Skill memory. The main advantage of the non Gen3 Extreme4 at this time is a much more mature UEFI. As for fixing the heatsink, replace the TIM and use screws and nuts to hold it down. Also lap the base of the heatsink if its pitted or dirty, that'll get the vest performance out of it. The design of the heatsink itself has been changed on the Extreme3 Gen3 and Extreme7 Gen3 boards, I assume it was too late in the day to change the HS design on the Extreme4 Gen3 by the time I had talked about it and suggested alternative designs to my contacts.

i went to install the intel rapid storage driver i got from the asrock site

i downloaded the bios version it said (1.8)installed that and then i tried to install the driver through windows and it said my system didnt meet the minimum requirements for the software...im going to run a raid setup with regular hard drives..no ssd's. do i need to install this driver? or am i ok without it?

Look again. This driver requires UEFI version 1.90 and upwards. I suggest you to flash UEFI 2.00. Very good, very stable.

So that is your problem. You want install SATA AHCI drivers when your controller is set to IDE.

The best way is to reinstall Windows with AHCI enabled and then install that Intel driver.
Or you can google for a guide how to enable AHCI mode when OS is already installed on controller in IDE mode.

no... if you have the option of one 3rd drive (externel/internal) you clone the windows partition (with acornis true image for example), restore it on the raid volume and do the trick @Grips posted

Ket, I'm curious as to whether ASRock has asked you for any feedback/suggestions as to future UEFI updates for their motherboards (other than bug fixes?)

I ask, as one monitor I've encountered (the Acer G235H--very popular of late) is incapable of stretching/fitting the P67 Extreme4's 1024 x 768 UEFI screen to it's full 1920 x 1080 HD display (leaving a 1 in. black border around the edges). Granted, this may just be an issue of Acer cutting corners, but I'm wondering if perhaps direct support for larger resolutions, or perhaps scaling built-into the UEFI might be a good idea as displays only get larger in the future?

I installed a new SSD (Crucial M4) today, unfortunately I can't update the firmware, as it wont update when plugged in to SATA3.

My Extreme4 (B2) SATA2 is stuffed due to the infamous "Intel Bug".

Would a SATA2 expansion card be seen during boot?

Just connect Crucial to SATA 2 port, set controller to IDE mode and proceed with the flash.
