Ok so I got my RAM and my pc is booted, yay!
Ok so currently my settings are:
cpu frequency: 370
RAM Frequency: 740
Memory Voltage: 2.15
Vcore: 1.45
FSB Termination: 1.45
NB Core: 1.45
SB Core: 1.60
CPU Ration: 9
Ram Timings: 5-5-5-15-5-35
Then 3-11-6-13
So what's the first thing I should do to try to push this ram... For the RAM frequency the next option from 740 is 960... could I try that? Or would tighter timings at 740 yield faster/more impressive results in real time usage?
MRT2 - 960 would be a big jump on 800 mhz memory (even though the Crucial overclocks well). You might try reducing your multiplier to 8, setting your FSB to 401 and working your way up slowly from there (leaving the memory divider at 1:1).
So would that give me better/faster performance? Or just a better overclock? I'm trying to find the fastest tightest memory/cpu settings I can and still be stable.
It's slightly slower than what you have now. Running at 370 on this board is tough on the NB. Moving to 401 FSB, however, will allow you to slowly work past 800mhz on your RAM to figure out how fast you can get it while keeping it stable. Note that the internal latency is slowed down signficantly once you get past 400 FSB (moves to the 1333 step).

@ 3.25 gig (ie 360x9) - 1.5 Vcore - stable - boots fine - Orthos stable

I've tried VMCH low and high, same with VSB etc ...
I'm a bit concerned to whether its a mobo limitation or a CPU limitation .. ie have I hit a fsb wall on the CPU ? (ie why does it work fine at one frequency at 9x but at 8x but same freq - its a no-no ? - only difference is fsb is higher)
or a mobo limitation - this concerns me a bit more as if I buy another CPU at some point - I may hit the same limitation ?
just confused really -any ideas please ?
I also tried 1:1 RAM, 4:5 RAM, and I've had 2 sets of RAM in the mean-time - one Corsair, and one Crucial Ballistix - same results.
any ideas please ? or just very poor CPU wrt fsb overclocks ?

my CPU must just hate high fsbs - or its my mobo - lets hope not the latter.
its probably my CPU - after-all it does need 1.5375 Vcore for 3.28 gig 0 which is pretty naff - comparitively - its a week 24 :(
Did some cable tidying up today (and it was quite neat anyway) - and Mobo temp under heavy load went from 42 - to 33C - airflow is a weird and wacky thing !!

Well just as a comparison I am using the Tuniq Tower for my CPU cooling. I also do not consider my E6600 to be the best overclocker either, it takes 1.58vc to get 3.6ghz orthos stable but my temps are really good despite the VC.Quote:

Oh well, I will be selling this E6600 pretty soon anyway because in a few more days I plan to have a Q6600 with G0 stepping in this bad boy!
Be sure you flash the BIOS prior to installing your G0 stepping... my understanding is that it doesn't POST w/ anything below 1210.

whats the overclocking like with Q6600s and E6850s with this board like please ? OK but not as good as the P35s ?
could I reasonably expect with a decent cooler -for the P5B to be able to cope with a Q6600 @ 3 gig?

thought I'd give one last ditch overclock attempt with my E6600 @ 3.25 gig @ VCore Auto ... to see what the mobo thought the CPU needed ...
expected it to way-over-volt -so went into bios to check V readings first ..
set Vcore to 1.4V instead of the 1.5V I normally set.
great I thought ... but 20 seconds into Orthos blend -blue screen.
I thought Vcore Auto tended to be stable but gave way over-volts to what is needed ?
