Are you refering to AUTO values (obviously), or fixed values?
. Words not required.
Alright, here's the latest scoop. Got off the phone with ASUS, after a miserably painful 'on hold' wait. The tech I spoke to says that not only has he already heard about this problem, but calls about this problem are 'pouring in'. They are already investigating this issue (Q9450 / CPU Margin Enhancement) and they have a few cases of people with problems running this CPU on BIOS > 0803.
The Good News: He was frank enough to say If this issue is pushed any further, they are most likely going to remove the CPU Margin Enhancement from the BIOS for now until they can properly resolve the conflict. I spoke to him in depth about my CPU being potentially damaged with this setting, and he remarkably replied that they would be willing to "Replace" my CPU if it appears that this setting has indeed damaged the CPU.
Leeg ... I just want to point out, unlike your contact at ASUS, as you had posted, Quote "Talked to my Asus contact : who wasn't aware of the issue at all", Unquote ... the Tech at the ASUS Center I called was more then aware of this issue, as is his department. I'm not sure we called the same center, could be we're calling different centers. I'm not sure how their support operates. I can give you the number if you need it.
I just want to stress that this issue is "NOT" just 2 guys experiencing here on XS ... it's much widespread and already in ASUS' attention. I'm hoping they will remove the setting from the BIOS, and on the same note I'm going to Urge each & every single member here running a Q9450 & P5Q Deluxe who has experienced similar issues of any nature, running BIOS > 0803, to please pick up the phone & call ASUS. You might be damaging your CPU!! And if it is damaged, we're going to get ASUS to replace it!!
true... thanks for the number.
Well add another one to your list. I had to downgrade my BIOS to get stable stock out of my Q9450 to 0803. Not sure if it damaged my chip though.
I can't seem to use BIOS boot image with 1403 BIOS. I've tried integrating it twice with no success.
Anyone else noticed this?
I'm running my q9450 with this board and no problems... but I'm on the original bios with no overclock :p:
After reading the past 20 pages or so... I'm glad I haven't changed that yet
*What is the exact issue with the q9450s?
*What is this CPU Margin Enhancement that is added to the later bioses?
I see that the 1306 bios is giving too much PLL voltage 1.8+!!!. I hope I have not damaged my cpu.
I was able to go past the initial vista loading screen changing CME to performance mode. It doesn't work with the default optimized or the compatible mode.
I loaded the modded 1403 bios. Thank you for the link. With the CME at default optimized, I was able to initiate the Vista loading screen.
I didn't have time to load Vista, I just tested to see if I could get past the point I was stuck at. I am scared with the default settings now so I set every voltage to their standard values.
I will load the proven 803 to load the OS etc... I just wanted to check for everyone if the 1403 passed the smell test and it does.
*do you guys know if the maximus II formula has similar problems? I may just send this back and get that for a piece of mind.
Not very cool to hassle with the board at only default stock settings on day one.
Apparently the m2f doesn't have this option but, they will probably be yanking the setting on these soon any way is my guess.
so is it just that cme setting that causes the instability on the q9450s?
how does that setting damage the cpu?
I would think the 1.8v pll auto setting would damage the cpu.
so the p5q deluxe is high end enough to receive a new setting but not the highest to be the lab rat. M2F will get it after it is thoroughly tested?
maybe asus was simply nice to offer it to the p5q deluxe that probably has a bigger customer base and more owners. after all, biostar tpower, dfi dark p45 etc.. is competing with this board in the same price bracket so it needs some attention.
Thanks for the update...very interesting. Still don't know what it is or how it is degrading the chips, but it sounds like ASUS accepts that it is a problem...now, considering the q9550 is just a higher clocked q9450, I am wondering if I should downgrade to 0803...after a month trying to get this OC stable, or wait for the fixed bios....
Going to butt in here, my GA-P35-DS4 just blew up and was considering one of these as a replacement (screw waiting for RMA).
Got a bit of reading to do , but scrolling through last few pages, seems it'll be good with my Q6600.
Upgraded the bios from 0803 to 1306 via the internet with the Asus application and that seemed to fix some of my 4870x2 issues. Also using a Q9450@3.8GHz.
That is correct the M2F does not have this option (thankfully).
No way will the M2F get this option, it's the top of the line Asus P45 board. No one who purchases a M2F would ever combine it with a cheap, low end cpu, which that CME option is designed to assist the overclocking of. The P5Q-D is a cheap mainstream board and many people would just pair one with a low end cpu so that's why it has the CME setting.
What are you talking about?
He needs the higher bios for better compatability with his X2 card... Nilos needed at least 1201 to get better performance/compatability out of his 4870's in crossfire... hence why sadly 0803 is only for most of you a solution...pmp is on the case too now...
OK, I'm considering this board for my htpc, with a Q9550 (slightly oc).
My questions is:
1) it is stable with this cpu? If so, which bios? I dont want to see a bsod with lenses.
2) The extra sata ports can be used for a dvd and the boot drive? I need all 6 intel ports for my storage.
If you want guaranteed ram compatibility, the ability to use the latest BIOSES and equivalent or better overclocking than the P5Q-Deluxe, get the Maximus II Formula instead. I can't answer concerning the SATA ports. P5Q-D (and other P5Q series boards too) is just too big a risk with a 45nm quad at this stage. If you were stuck on the 803 BIOS like a lot of people are, you are very limited in your choice of ram. I'd also consider the DFI P45 board (DK Plus) it seems solid and is relatively inexpensive.
:Attention Everyone:
Anyone using a Q9450 w/ P5Q Deluxe having any issues using any BIOS > 0803, please head over to this thread opened by Leeg to post your issue in detail. We need numbers, we need posts, we need strength.

As Leeg personally brought it to my attention that ASUS Tech's will be looking into this thread to see what kind of problems (and by how many) are being faced due to this 'CPU Margin Enhancement' feature -- I think we ought to let them know that this problem is widespread.
Again, please take the time out to post in this thread for review by ASUS:
