My system now was constantly crashing with AMD driver stoped responding error, Moved my Ram sticks from the red slots to the black slots and no errors, iam also back at 1604 bios with no problems using turbo multipliers in bios.
Now what could be wrong my ram , mobo , or Cpu ?
My ram is 8gb Samsung MV-3V4G3D/US
Any ideas?
Need more info from you guys - what kind of CPU frequency and memory frequency are you running. What happens when CPU is at default and memory is no faster than DDR3-1600? These newer builds have updated microcode, that can change how stable certain DRAM types are when overclocked. If that's part of the cause there may not be much you can do to remedy it apart from relax timings a bit and see if it improves.

3770k with Turbo multi at x42 iam using Offset overclocking -0.080v (witch translates into 0.808v at idle and 1.650v full load)
The memory was run at stock 11-11-11-28 1.35v and 1.45v to test running Memtest86 gives me no errors left it over night 8 hours .
I have now put the memory back at the Red slots again and its working ok no AMD Driver stoped responding for now.
The only thing diferent now is that ive unpluged my Storage Harddrive Samsung Spinpoint HD203WI 2TB
Now please understand that this drive is only for backup nothing from the system is there. But i do have a issue with this drive on this board.
The drive only works on the two Intel Sata 3.0 Gb/s ports if i conect it to the 6.0 Gb/s ports the drive goes nuts and starts making a horrible noise (like if the read neadle is going back and forth hitting the fisical limits?) and prevents the system from booting.
Do you think that this drive even tho its working fine on the Sata 3.0Gb/s is causing this problems on my system? I have it off for now while testing.
For me, this happens at stock. I have used both Corsair Dominator Platinum 2666 C10 @ 1333 MHz(JEDEC) and G.skill TridentX 2666 C11 @ 1600 MHz(JEDEC).Quote:

I have been doing memory testing for reviews, obviously by my postings. Are you saying you think the BIOS may have been corrupted a bit by me pushing, and then the problems weren't noticed until I had the VGA crash?

But for me, flashing new BIOS doesn't fix the problem, at least not in all instances. It did fix the new Extreme board when I made the crap happen again, but my old Extreme and my Formula are very much buggered, even after re-flashing the BIOS.
The MEI update...does that reside in each individual BIOS, or somewhere else?
ME firmware resides in BIOS. Not an easy thing to flash yourself (at least not officially).
If the new BIOSes are not working out then try rolling back. If no help there, then RMA the board and try another lest there is some kind of weird EC issue. If the new board has the same problem then I suspect it is the way you are pushing the system, or something to do with a weird parts incompatibility.
Could be something about that HDD's firmware. When you unplug it, if you dont have the same problems, I guess that answers the question...Quote:

Wait, 1.65V Vcore under full load on the 42X multplier???? Sounds like a typo. If the negative offset voltage is too low, the system can crash because the VID is insufficient when the load modulates. Try using a static level of Vcore to debug this or decrease the negative offset so the idle voltage is not as low as you have it now. Ideally I would return the CPU to stock, and use static VID (not offset mode) to debug this issue before you do anything else.
If it is not that then I suspect you might need to relax some of the memory sub-timings.

i cannot get the optical in to lock with my cable box (rng110,) it works with my TV, ps3, and 360, but it will not lock with my cable box no matter what. the cable box will work with my receiver in the other room. anyone have an idea?

I think you've misunderstood what I meant. I mean there is not an open door to flash any ME you want at any time (officially at least). That update was mandatory that's why it was posted (Win 8 WHQL requirement). It's a flash once affair officially as well, they don't allow going back and forth AFAIK or reflashing the same version again. Hope that makes sense :)Quote:

Sell BIOS blocks? You mean sell BIOS chips? Not sure about that, you'd need to contact RMA. It depends on what is available. Sometimes it's easier for them to swap out a board.Quote:

edit- so apparently only the gene and formula have the good audio setup, and the extreme has the low end crap realtek chip/firmware that comes on base boards, no amp, and only support PCM on the optical since they did not license dolby or creative software for the board (i did not notice the lack of amp since i am running 32ohm headphones right now.) it seams unreasonable that the flagship $450 board does not have the good audio chipset or even the software to use the ports. so it looks like cracking the xfi driver or buying a sound card are the only options. /rant

I have the same problem on my MVG i dont know if its a MB problem, but is very anoying has one cannot tweak the system correctly because of this, getting Multiplier stuck all the time is realy bad and only way to fix it is to clear cmos :(

Stop using uefi versions higher than 0704 and you are fine,asus messed up some stuff in later uefi's,got that problme with multiplier too on my v extreme...

Oh, and don't forget those that are flashing newer BIOS because their keyboard or mouse doesn't work in BIOS, only when OS loads...

Got a new Maximus V Extreme mobo, started to build the new PC yesterday, and got a few questions:
1- The PCI-E power connector, should I connect it if I do NOT use SLI/Xfire?
2- I am going to use 'alot' of fans, should I use the mobo connectors and bios/software fan controll, or should I get a bayslot fan controller?
3- Should I use the latest BIOS or is there a special one I should go for?
4- I am just going to connect a SSD which I connect to the Intel 6gb port. Should I use a different 3gb (sata 300) port for the dvd drive?
If there is any general things I should know about this board, please give it!
EDIT:
I am a OC noob, and plan to try the OC Genie or what it is called. What can I normally hope for on a i/ 3770K? 4,3ghz? 4,5 ghz? Should I run the OC gamer thing in BIOS, or use the software in windows (win7 Pro)?

The RAM do not have a XMP profile for 1666 mhz (kinda sad, my bad, too noob to check for this) so it defaults to jedec 1333 mhz (got no interest in running at this low speed). If i run all stock with this ram setting, all looks normal. CPU speedsteps up/down and also adjust power up and down.
When I select XMP profile 2133 is when things get strange. CPU is LOCKED in turbo mode at 3900 (100x39), it NEVER speedsteps, only adjust watt usage depending on usage. And the volt is 1.1x when idle and 1.0x when under full load. Rock stable, 'Intel Extreme testing tool' burn (all cores/threads) results in about 70 degrees CELSIUS, also gfx card is OCed to 1025/1525 with fan set to 60% when playing, case fans at 1000 rpm, and fans on Hydro 80i set to 1600 rpm. Also looping Unigine Valley with no problems, gfx card caps at about 70 degrees CELSIUS.
I do not understand how I can get the CPU to speedstep at this setting, I have checked all bios settings, and as noobish me can see they are all set to enable speedstep/powersave. I do not understand that this low volt setting can be correct at 3,9 ghz. Is it a bios bug? Both CPU-z and Aida64 show same values. Neither do I understand why I get this high temp at this low volt, and with this good cooling (can be badish fitting of paste/block, but I doubt it).
I have checked for info on the Extreme bios settings, and the ones I find are not detailed enough for noobish me. Several settings are not mentioned, and for example how to manually set volt etc are not detailed, neither is speedsteping (there are several settings all over the bios). The bios on this card is very different from my 5 year old x38 card.
Any input/help/suggestions would be super!
PS! Do NOT use Aida64 gfx test, this thing is doing something strange, and I do believe it can damage your card (it produces gfx artifacts which indicates things are not good/overheating).
Make sure C1E and Speedstep is enabled in the CPU Settings section (I think XMP might be disabling it). Windows power profile needs to be set on Balanced and at its default settings for processor power management also. CPU Vcore should be in Offset mode for power saving voltage changes as well.
