So, the socket 754 bracket doesn't seem to clear the F socket itself. The holes for backplate are there and spaced correctly, the plastic bracket just won't settle in solidly. I have at least one socket 940 cooler that will work but I'd prefer to use my much quieter AM2 coolers, ideas? I might just need to jiggle it some more....
pictures plz mojo
ramz came in today, hope they work. what's next? retention brackets or test board?
+1 on the pics. Thanks.
alright just throwing this power supply out there for you guys getting this board. 80 plus certified, 520W, single rail, no rebate crap, free shipping, promo code till tonight makes it $45

i just ordered one.
I bet they don't ship to canada :( I can't really look because I'm not subscribed
You are correct, was the four screws. Glad I noticed before I did too much work.
Just got done taking a couple, let me see how bad they came out. The red circled corner needed the most shaving. I left the four feet of the bracket intact and cleared out the flat area along the back wall. The retention arm for the socket fits underneath the sidewall, don't think thats going to give me any problems.
Oh wow, that board is nice!
How much RAM you running?
nice mojo! mind telling us where you got the board?
I think he got it from eBay
4gigs, was that $25 dollar deal. This board is easy mode, it even fits and has proper screw holes to go into an old Chieftec Dragon case I had laying around. CPUs are still inbound so don't know what all works yet so fingers crossed.
Board was $70 shipped off ebay, sold as new and came in the original box.
so when the description says:
"Supports AMD Opteron Socket F 2000 Series Dual core and Quad core Processors"
does that mean 2000 series dual core and 2000 series quad core or 2000 series dual core and any series quad core?
Should be the same CPUs as the quad board we want.
I'll know if the 8347s work soon enough.
Oh yeah, if I cut the back out of one of those 8x PCIe slots I can drop a 16x graphic card in there right?
Just a heads up if you get any problems - people here reported stability sometimes (only on your particular board) when those 4 screws you removed weren't tightened, for some reason. Of course, there's no way you can tighten them now! Hopefully it should work fine for you though.
Yes as long as nothing is in the way of the card. The topmost one looks like it would be fine, the one below it wouldn't because of the heatsink right behind it.
And those bolts on the sockets are needed, think of how the CPU is held down. The bolts keep the pressure on the hold down for the CPU.
After checking that out some more, the bolts through the back plate mehtod doesn't look hard at all. Just have to hit the hardware store to get something the right size and drill a few holes.
wait why are you drilling holes and leaving out screws and this and that? i thought this was a straight forward install of retention -> heatsink..
The board comes with 4.1" backplates held on by 4 screws. Those 4 screws also lock down the metal frame of the CPU socket. You have to remove the screws to put in the 754/939 brackets. My plan is to replace the screws with some nuts/bolts threaded through the 754/939 back plate.
