sounds pretty brutal but the 3 times i have called in with issues that could have been easily handled by the little punk on the phone he tried to tell me to use the web form.. needless to say me and the Tech manager had a nice long talk about customer service and the legal ramifications of simply telling everyone to "go to the website and submit a trouble ticket" to which your reply has little to nothing to do with solving your issue. and they dont even read the form you fill out prior ro answering you. they will ask you what bios you have or what hardware you have when the fvcking form you filled out just answered that question,. so there goes another 3 days waiting for a reply when all the little bastards had to do was read the friggin form.
so now your at a week ,, and still not one helpful answer to any of your questions.

just like with the IDE PIO mode. Gigabyte denied there ever was an issues, tried falsifying pictures and information to me and i took that to their regional support manager and one of their sales manager and pretty much explained what happens to companies here in the good ol usa when they try to fook over consumers like this.
and low and behold what happened 2 weeks later ? oh my gawd,, the F3 bios was released that fixed the friggin PIO mode and ,, oh yeah,, they didnt know a thing about it and denied there was an issue,, yeah uh huhm,, thats why you fixed it huh..


andways the moral of the story is gigabytes support is good for only 1 thing.. RMA nothing else,,, nothing...
just come here and we will help out as best we can but when many of us tell you to RMA it quick jacking around and just RMA it.

Yeah, they went in circles when I asked about the Smart Fan option in EZTune. In the end, they told me Smart Fan was replaced by QST...I asked them what that was for giggles at the end. :D Enjoy...

Richard, to work around the SYS_FAN being at 100%, have you tried the latest Speedfan? You should be able to override it into Software Controlled mode. And perhaps you can switch it back to SmartGuardian mode to knock some sense into it - it might just work until the next reboot!

I agree Gigabyte's customer service has gone downhill from 10 years back, allthough I thinks it's improved from 2 years back where it was taking over a week for each answer all in with backwards and forwards I was 3 weeks trying to sort a problem for a friend in the end I never got the right service and the board went in the bin and I vowed to never buy Gigabyte agian that was until the DS4, which I am happy with but I haven't had to contact them thank god.

Considering those latest 2 beta bios's were released by gigabyte Germany over on there forums for people to test.

Concludes there tech support has no idea what's going on.

They still have haven't fixed the Creative X-Fi losing the sound card and have to reinstall the drivers. I couldn't get my sound card to working half of the time with the official F6 bios.

does it make a difference if you run stock or overclock ?
and if overclock what FSB does it start to puke out the XFi ?
also are you locking the pci-e at 100mhz ? or higher ??

My xfi works fine

My bet is the Creative drivers are messed up.

you have to uninstall them and then go through the registry by hand and remove all there entries.

Trust me that should fix it :)

Even at stock speeds. It works fine with the F5 bios. PCI-e is locked at 100mhz.

F6e also loses the X-FI from time to time.

Sorry for not wanting to read 60 pages of replies, but what is the best/most stable bios for overclocking so far? I notice that f6 is out but some ppl like Lestat stick with the f4 bios...what is the consensus? I bought a DS3 with a f5e bios for my other e6600 which seemed ok for a while @3.6ghz but then would have reboot issues. Upgraded to f6 and am doing ok so far. Never tried f4. What do you guys think?

See to me this is RUBBISH!...why?, because the beta F6e fixes the problems i mentioned, i can now enable USB Keyboard Support in bios + have my Plextor 716SA connected to the yellow Intel ports + setup a RAID 0 array. It works...i am able to boot from the RAID array + the Plextor drive is detected in bios and can be set in the boot order.

As i have tried to explain to these muppets...you *NEED* to enable USB Keyboard support in bios, because other wise you cannot fully use a USB keyboard, specifically being able to hit Ctrl+I and enter the Intel SATA RAID bios ROM to setup a RAID array and stripe size etc.

(mad as hell) !!

i have with some of the servers try the europe server.

i already flash to f7 using @bios. havent have time to test it. but one thing i notice is that there is now a gigabyte logo on starup which i think is really cooool

richard there is not a need to use the usb ketboard enable option for the ctrl-i or any other POST function.
If you needed to enable usb keyboard then you wouldnt even be able to get into the bios if you disabled it. see what i mean ?
usb keyboard support is just as he siad it is.
its ONLY for using a usb mouse or keyboard in DOS, pc POST is not DOS , it uses its on built in Legacy hardware to use the usb devices.

as for different bioss not letting you use raid and usb kb support, well i wouldnt know about that, bu frankly it sounds like once again you have a goofy board.
i'd seriously ebay that thing and go get a C2 board... or something entirely different.
you can still get a P5B Dlx for less than the DQ6. and i think you'd b a helluva lot happier with it.

They definitely did more than that. The menus are different (colorful voltage warnings and such!) and the big gigabyte startup screen.

Also, after quite a few reboots my X-fi is still installed. So maybe they fixed that as well.

I've only had this board/setup for a few days, but that :banana::banana::banana::banana: was driving me crazy. I thought it was my X-fi's fault till I came here.


edit: saw you were referring to the DQ6, I'm talking about the DS3. Sorry for the confusion. Hopefully you get more improvements as well.

Excuse me...but there IS need need to enable USB Keyboard Support. I'm using a Logitech MX3100 wireless desktop kit, if is disable USB Keyboard Support in bios i cannot restart my PC using Ctrl+Alt+Del nor can i setup a RAID array or enter the Intel Matrix bios ROM or the JMicron controller...as if you hit Ctrl+I or Ctrl+G nothing happens...you HAVE to enable it.

It's essential i enable it, with USB Keyboard support disable does allow some basic DOS options such as entering bios etc., but to have more functionality you need to enable USB Keyboard Support.

It's not a goofy board, the fact that official F6 fixes my issues PROVES it's a bios problem, not the board.

They did do more then just add Kentsfield support, but many of what has been added was already seen in the beta F6e, this new Gigabyte logo at POST is newer still...but what a waste!

They DID NOT update the Intel Intel Matrix bios ROM, it's still version 6.0.0.1022, whereas Intel and Asus have updated to 6.1.0.1002, also the AHCI bios ROM is old...Intel have just released version dated 13th September 2006 and can be found in their own latest bios updates.

The JMicron controller has not been updated, still 1.06.53 whereas Asus have updated to 1.06.56a!!

So much more could have been added then a crappy POST logo.......grrrr!

new f6 for ds4 allows 2.5V and more than 1.67V on cpu... but wall 450fsb with 6600 and 4*512spectek still exist

Richard has a very valid point.... and the boot screen appears in weird colors for me, but thats cos of my graphics card so no worries there, bit disappointed the bios update is essentially nothing... :(

3Ghz with voltage set manually to one notch down from 1.4750V, dosen't the voltage seem high for this O/C?

I did try and boot with 400x8=3.2Ghz....but i was at 1.5250V and not stable at all, failed Orthos in seconds. I'd suspect a i'd have to set 1.5500V and probably higher.

Considering VDroop....dosen't this seem high?

max vdimm is now 2.5. so thats good if they would ever fix the friggin ram issues.

Ever since F5 they have the SYS_FAN running at full speed and no longer controlled by the bios.

Prior to this both the CPU_FAN and SYS_FAN were temperature/bios controlled.

I had the G.SKILL HZ kit at 900Mhz with 2.2V and 1000MHz with 2.3V, 4-4-4-12.

They were using Corsair 6400C3, the only D9 modules I have got to work on the DS3 past 460FSB at a 1:1 ratio in a stable manner. They were burning the midnight oil on this issue yesterday. ;)

The Gigabyte DS3 overclocking issue with most Micron D9 modules has been solved. Expect a new bios later next week after testing is completed. :D

Richard man, dude, look... Get off the sys_fan issue. Gigabyte doesn't care and if your that concerned with the noise from it 1) DL speedfan and set your own speeds / temps 2) buy quieter fans.

But but...it was working right! until GB screwed it up!!

whats your temp and cooling with 400x8??

temp is 33oC idle and around 45oC, at 1.47v after vDroop (this is on everest beta edition). It's a crappy week 24 so I need a lot of voltage to get any higher, cooling is an arctic cooling freezer 7 pro in my Antec P180.

Question guys. Im still on F4 for my DS3 and i havnt updated because im assuming if I do I'll need to go borrow some cheap ram again from Bestbuy. For those of you that cant boot at default ram voltage, does the voltage setting reset when you update the bios?

I just wish the DS3 would correctly detect my RAM as DDR2-800 instead of DDR2-667.

I'm using this GEIL RAM http://www.geilusa.com/proddetail.asp?linenumber=71

I'm pretty sure the new bios have better default voltages. I wouldn't worry about it.

I updated my DQ6 to F6 but I am not sure it worked as POST screen, Everest and CPUID show F5, although I did have instability until I properly cleared DMI data and loaded Optimised Defaults. Back to 400x8 for the moment because it didn't seem to like 425. Now that it is booting into Windows and showing some stability, I'll try to 425 again. Using 'normal' for vCore.

guys please get the F6 from the official gigabyte site.

Now folding dual cores (100% CPU) @ 425 / 3.4GHz.

I lashed out and bumped the vCore from 'Normal' to 1.425v and vDimm to +0.4v. Temps have jumped by about 5c, but I think I can drop the vaults a little once I've finished playing. I'd like to 450 FSB, stable. That would be sweet :D. (...enough for me for the mo ;)).

Still not sure whether I am truly running F6 though. I doubt it. :confused:

[edit: @laziepid, just saw your post (probably while I was posting), downloaded the 'official' version. About to reflash and try again. Will report back soon.]

Was in the midst of posting to advise that I was running FSB 438 @3.5GHz and running dual prime95 (small/large FFTs) when boinc. Restart! :doh:

@1.42v vCore (1.38v), temps were hitting 59c max on both cores (Everest) for the <10mins it lasted.

I've now reduced back to FSB435@3.48GHz(44412), stress testing... 5mins so far.
[edit: 60c now @ 28c ambient, upto Test 4.]

You simply can't read. That's all. There isn't any problem with your mobo concernicg RAM detection.

"The safe-mode SPD will be applied to all GeIL's DDR2 series product 667 & above with shipping date December 2nd, 2005 and beyond. You will find a "CAUTION" card in every retai packaged DDR2 products mentioned above. "

Anyone having more troubles with the latest F7 then they had before updating? Flashed yesterday and max overclock has deminshed :stick: I could boot 520x7 but now max is 500x7 though with better subtimings... Anyone else having these problems?

Btw I'm using the same kit as above, 1gb version for 115E or so at dutch online shop. Tell me what you can do with it, I'm rather stuck at max suicide shot off 531x7, lowering multi didn't help as well as running higher ratio's so I'm sure it's the ram. Though ddr1000 5-5-5-12 stable for 115E is good enough for a cheap kit, I wonder what others are doing with it?

Edit: after looking again I noticed I got the red heatspreaders... and their rated 5-5-5-12 pc6400 instead off 5-5-5-15.. sorry diffrent kit linkie..

Yep saw that on the Geil website, however it doesn't explain that when I manually set all the memory timings so that it should be DDR2-800 5-5-5-15, why every diagnostic program around detects the RAM as GEIL DDR2-667 PC2-5300. If the DS3 was correctly detecting it so would the diagnostics.
