This seems higher than most peoples . Is it for stability ?

I see much lower volts from others, but damn if I can get Vista to load at anything below 1.55
Question for the more experienced here...are the hardware monitor readings in the BIOS correct? They seem either wildly inaccurate to me or there is a whole lot of over/undervolting going on with just about every voltage setting in the BIOS. For example, setting the CPU PLL to 1.6 and restarting reports a CPU PLL in the Hardware monitor of almost 1.76. And setting the DRAM voltage to 2.0 yields 2.098, far from the .04 overvolting that many have reported.
Is it best to set the BIOS settings as you want them to be and disregard Hardware Monitor or do we really have to play this guessing game in order to get the correct voltages?
Yes,
thks a lot dmight and also nuckin futs, your latest posts are helping me to understand better the volts relations between components, mainly because the settings in bios are really never the same as they will show on win.
For instance my non oc-friendly corsair 6400 c4 (non dominator) is rated at 12-4-4-4 2.1 volt, if i enter 2.1 in bios will show up as 2.18 in win (frightening!), dont wanna fry up my hard earned mobo!
I think i have a concave IHS/zalman, because either lowering or upping the cpu volt a bit does not change temps, always running like at 40 idle/ 62 load (fans at minimum). Im waiting on a easypckits lapping kit (David is a very friendly guy, recommended), will also try the 120 ultra to see if it is what everyone is talking about in performance, i have both liquid pro and mx-2 to tryout (guess ill try the mx-2).
any reports on
Transcend DC Kit 2GB DDR2 AXERAM PC2-9200 TX1200QLJ-2GK ?
prob ill swap the corsair for these.
thks a lot again!
oh snap !! I don't even mess with my ram voltage at all.
I have been on vista since about march and I went back to XP and I couldn't take it . Vista grew on me and I won't switch back to xp .
I win :P
Whoops, just screwed up my Vista install with a bad OC :) haha
Now I get the Black Screen Of Death before the logon appears, with a mouse pointer that I can move about and do nothing with.
Lovely jubly!
Time for a re-install.
can someone explain what Ai clock twister is please?
OK, I think I am going to start doing some research into chilled water. I got this thing 1 min stable OCCT load @3.91GHz at night and 3.97GHz in the morning. Decided to try a longer time period of load tonight and watched the cpu temp climb and climb. Ambient air cooled water cooling is not cutting it.
do it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Im on chilled water bro and i can tell you that it does not help on this board all that much. I can sometimes get a 3dmark06 run in at 4 gig with q6600 but not very often. After playing with this board for one month now i have decided that the only way im gonna get 4gig+ is with an extreme chip with unlocked multiplier. My x38 dq6 runs a q6600 at for gig 24\7 with much lower cpu temps. I have had problems with many asus boards regarding cpu temps and cant figure it out .
Hello...
I have 4x1gb ballistix tracer 1066 on maximus with 0903 bios and Vista x64 installed.
I tried most of the settings posted in the thread but I'm having big problem with ram overclocking..(Anything other than stock ram speed results in memtest errors or os bsod).
Any help would be appreciated...:)
Did you read any of my previous post? They all point to overclocking challanges when running 4 slots and overclocking at the same time. I and many serious overclockers since the birth of DDR have never fussed with overclocking 4 slots occupied. It put a major address load on the memory controller and is really only a bennifit for servers, not overclockers. 2 gb of RAM in 2 slots has prooven to be the most reliable for several years now. even dence RAM of 2gb x 2 is adding a challange.
You can do it but you now need to do a lot of relaxing and upping on some mobo volts.
For starters, try this. Keep strap and frequency to AUTO (1:1), up PCI-E to 111, open timings close to stock (usually 5-5-5-18 for 1066), Enable Static Read Control if using or wanting higher FSB, Disable DRAM Booster and relax to 3~5, set Ai Clock Twister to light. Up CPU GTL Ref to 63x, and chipset GTL Ref to 67x, FSBT to 1.47~1.50v, and NB to at least 1.5v~1.52v for the 450~485FSB range. Although, the 4 slot configuration is a compromise of a bit of less FSB on top of looser timings and yet a lil added mobo volts.
This should get you to Prime further. Scores will report a tad less on paper but you may never notice if you didnt see the numbers.
Let me know how it works
For what is worth, I have run Abit, Asus and Gigabyte boards and will not go back to Gigabyte. I had the P35-DQ6 returned it 3 times, finally ended up with smeone elses junk board and never got it running. I switched to the Asus Max board and it ran first time out of the box. I hit 4.06 on my Q6600 and though I did not stress it, it ran. The Gigabyte has impressive specs, but service is very poor. I have not used Asus customer service, but you know what, I have not needed it.
Its funny how some boards work better for peeps and some dont:) I would like to know why cpu temps have increased so much using bioses after 502? Im sure that its the temps that are hurting this board. Im showing temps over 70c at full load with 8c water cooling? same water setup on my dq6 loads 60c full load. Im in know way saying that the dq6 is a better board I actually like this board very much that is why I have not gave up on it yet:up:
Severence, everyone is entitled to their opinion and experience. My particular board did not run and customer service was not there to help and because of that lost future sales from me on any Gigabyte product.
What were the loaded core temps (cores 1/2/3/4, not CPU die temp) in BIOS v0502? 70c is bout right for an exreme OC. That's what my Q6600 on another mobo hits on 2 cores, and other 2 average round 68/69c as read in Everest v4.20.
What are they reading now in Everest coes 1~4 temps?
