Well upon saving F9 bios this morning (previously I was using F7) my computer would not hold my overclocked setting and I had to reset the CMOS:confused:
This has never happened before when I update the BIOS (my overclock holds with the New BIOS)
Well I'm back down to sqaure one with this Celeron (previosly was running 3.8 Ghz Prime stable on the stock HSF). I'll try and slowly take the CPU up again to faster speeds and then see if this F9 really ends up hurting my max stable settings.
What version is the JMicron bios ROM?, and have the Intel bios ROMs been updated?
I can't flash or do anything until my new 2.0 DQ6 arrives Tuesday.
You guys saved me the hassle of reinstalling the DS3 and reformatting to confirm the cold boot issues still exist. Today the board is sold and delivered to it's new owner with F7 on it. Thanks for all the help everyone!! :cool:
And will the Asus board be any better?...all boards have issues, GB have worked out many of what beefed me, but they continue to introduce new bugs with each bios upate...which i don't understand.
The cold boot is a new problem introduced and it's a real pain if your OC settings won't hold on each and every bootup.
Have the X-Fi issues been resolved with thse new bios?
For ColdBoot issues with my dq6, I "fixed" this by lowering the multiplier to 6x, then putting the desired FSB in bios for my intended multiplier of 8x. So I could boot fine (yes even cold boot) with 6x476, then I used RightMark Cpu Utility, set up a profile to switch to 8x multiplier in widows. Of course you have to setup all the voltages for the intended setup ghz, rather than the actual startup speeds, but it works :)Quote:

My only beef with the Asus board is less vdimm, 2.1v which doesnt affect me as my current memory does up to 520 memtest stable with 2.1 vdimm. Further than my CPU will go. And the fact that selecting 1.5v in the BIOS delivers ~1.368 under load.Quote:

Its not even a droop issue, it's just they have their BIOS voltage selection messed up. If they went through and just changed the 1.5 setting to 1.4v, and the others to more accurately match what voltage was being delivered it wouldn't be such a problem. On the DS3 I could set 1.4v and get the same voltage the P5B-E delivers at the 1.5v setting. Actual voltage is the same however.
As for which board I prefer. I prefer the GB DS3 over the Asus P5B-E - what I don't prefer to do is having to play with my overclock on every cold start. Both overclock this CPU to 515 Mhz without a problem - the Asus has some sluggishness since I moved to the 8800GTS while in the BIOS and tops at at 2.1 vdimm.
Ha Ha, it's me again. You must be really tired of me & listening to my crap but I've done some more 3D testing.
At 8x400 4:5 4 4 3 9 this S3 F7 BIOS ( which equals to DS3 F9 BIOS ) is;
* Blistering fast in WinRAR single- & multithreaded benching ( much much faster than before )
* Very fast in AquaMark ( yep, faster than before :slap: )
* Fast in 3DMark03 ( as fast or faster than before )
* 3-5% slower in 3DMark2001SE system tests. Don't ask me why but it's soon year 2007, I guess 3DMark2001SE belongs to the past, such a shame it's still the funniest bench!
Enough of me and my stupid benches :slapass:, to sum it up:
- this BIOS is def a keeper! :D
what hes saying is he wants to boot at 476x8. You set the bios to 476x6, then in windows it switches from 6x to 8x, by using the rightmark utility.

I've ran my Geil GX22GB6400UDC nicely in up to 485MHz. The only problem I had was my CPU, it turned out... It didn't want to go past that limit.Quote:

I had 13+ hours Orthos stable on mine and once it was shut off overnight the DS3 reverted back to default. Re-read some of the thread to understand the cold boot issue. It has nothing to do with pushing your OC too far - it's when on a cold start the S3/DS3 reverts to defaults. You can go in and configure your OC again and it runs fine.

thanks scyth, you got me thinking and you were right, my oc couldn't be handled, but not by the cpu. it's my psu. i have xclio 500w, and had up to 9 total fans, 2 hd's, 2 dvd burners, floppy, etc. eliminated 4 of the fans and have no more cold boot issues. initial draw must've been 2 much for it. i'm now stable at 434x8, but can't seem to push it to 440. also just tested 460x7 and no cold boot prob. don't know if this is your issue too dnottis, but might look at your power.Quote:

Cold boot does not matter to many people since majority just keep PC on all the time.
btw creative has some new Vista drivers out, still beta ones but reports seem to be better all around.
