X3350 Arrival

Settings for the above overclock. It was still Priming, but I'm about to go to bed so I checked out the BIOS settings before I turn it all off (I don't want anything exploding while I go to bed... I had a bad experience with a P5K-VM :))

im sure its a matter of cpu, no matter how hard i tried mine wont post past 480fsb and wont boot windows past 465. even 450 isnt really stable. it's a shame... i wish i could try many cpus and keep the best

To reiterate, I do not believe it is an issue with the CPU, rather it is with the motherboard and BIOS. This is true for my case:

DFI X38-T2R + X3350 = POST @ 450, won't get into Windows. Barely stable at 438 FSB (crash on high loads), rock solid at 425 FSB.

Dropped the same chip into a P5E-VM HDMI, at least 3 hours stable in Prime95 at 475 FSB.

Cool now all we need to do is wait for ASUS to fix this in 6 months.

Or get an ASUS P5E-VM HDMI board and build the ultimate SFF computer. :)

I think RunawayPrisoner stated this before, but it does seem like the X3350 requires less voltage than the 9450 to reach the same frequency...Maybe I am just seeing things...

1.46v for 4GHz is nothing funny... but I'll take the gamble. At worst, I'll just have to run the processor at stock. :(

well got 3.6GHz stable passed OCCT 2hr test and folded for about 6hrs

on 1.3v going to try less

also what temps are you guys getting im going to redo the tim cuz im getting idle 40-45c at 3.6 1.3v :(

33C idle and 70-75C load at 4.0GHz 1.46v.

real temp or core temp

your idle is lower but your load is hotter then mine

Temp reported by motherboard's sensors, neither real temp nor core temp. But real temp would also report the right temps. It's actually gone to 75 like... only once. If I lap the chip, I believe it won't go over 65C (because I tested and saw that the IHS is not flat at all).

I can't believe the P5E-VM seems to be the best mobo (highest FSB) for the C1 yorkie quads (at least right now with the current BIOS revisions)

Do you guys think you could squeeze a few more out on water? (i.e do you think heat is a factor holding you back)

How much higher do you want go? I'm at 4.0GHz 1.46v and it's been kind of stable so far... (don't know until a true GPU arrives) Guess 1.46v won't be a problem with water.

Any update with Asus fixing the clocking of these on X38/48?

It won't get fixed within a week, you know... unless ASUS is just THAT magical... :p:

Anyway, seems like I need .2v (!) more on the NB for the onboard VGA... versus non-VGA, so... tested these:

400: 1.35v (1.25v with PCI-E VGA)
450: 1.55v (1.35v with PCI-E VGA)
475: 1.65v (1.45v with PCI-E VGA)
500: 1.75v? (1.55v with PCI-E VGA)

So it's not impossible... but it'll require a lot of voltage through the northbridge to stabilize both the CPU and the onboard GPU at higher clocks.

Also to note that it's possible to leave both VTT and vPLL at stock on any clock up to 500 FSB, but it seems like the required vCore will be devastating (about +0.2v) for stable clocks.

I am not entirely sure what that does.

I believe clock over-charging is used to eliminate cold-boot problems for when you use LN2 or sub-zero cooling methods. It might be a voltage charger for clock generators... so they are warm enough to start up without giving any trouble at all.

Tossed my water cooling on the X3350, 3.9 GHz (488 x 8) stable so far for Prime95.

However my Vista install de-activated itself and I'm running it in reduced functionality from my Firefox open dialogue. :rofl:

Can't figure out how to get 494 fsb stable :(

I still cannot for the life of me figure out why that P5E-VM HDMI board is doing so well with 45nm chips.... Nobody really has had an explanation for it either.
