waiting to see if gigabyte can make the 6600, 6700, 6800 hit 400+ FSB stable 100% all the time. mostly the 6600 though cuz thats what i have lol.

well 1000mhz DRAM doesnt work but i believe this is a fualty board as several kit have failed but there are other guys running 1000+ dram freq.

Being able to cold boot with FSB over 400 that MUST be fixed. MUST !
using a windows program because the system cant handle booting at over 400 is stupid.

on a DS3, i can run ram at ddr1000 or so, but i can't boot an ES E6700 at anything above 375 reliably, even with the multiplier dropped to x7 :shrug:
increasing fsb, mch, pci-e or core voltage doesn't help :(

Agreed! At least with F4a I can just hit reset when the cold boot fails. F4c resets everything automatically and continues to boot. Annoying as hell.

I got this with all the F4 bios in Win x64. Booting on my WinXP Pro (32 bit) partition allowed flashing with @Bios

i need to make a correction to my fix-it wish list.

I personally have absolutely no issues with booting with 400mhz FSB 1:1
cold boot warm boot reboot whatever you name it. its ok.
right now im running 412 fsb. i can reboot but i can not power off and then power on. the overclock fails.

that right there is 110% the motherboards failure. nothing else.

if its stable and yet you can not power on from the off status,, its the boards failure.
but 400mhz fsb is 100% groovy for me.

now if i can get the ram to run 1000mhz i'll be a happy camper.

Today tried to flash the DS3 BIOS to F4E, but it gave me the error ERASE FAILED....then.....Write Protection blablabla....

After restart...It always stuck at AWARD BOOTBLOCK v1.0 screen.....

With : Scanning BIOS image in hard drive...



just stuck there forever.......is they any way i can fix it? If I get a floppy drive, can I rewrite the bios with it?

I tried to do it at DOS, but it always give me FLASHROM PROGRAM ERROR......then only I tried the @BIOS...

Yes! Exactly! :toast: I can reset and reboot fine as well. It's only the cold boot that fails.

Hehe, this is EXACTLY what happened to my DS3. Dead and worthless. Except it was a "bad" version of the f4e BIOS (supposedly)

I has been confused by the msg, It told me Erase error, than recover from image, then write protection error.....I think i should not restart =_=

Some of this is specific to the gigabyte boards in this thread you are reading. This was my current experience but some of this may change in the future or for you.

1. To add access to the advanced features of your gigabyte BIOS, you have to hit ctl-F1. If you use a USB KVM switch, it may screw up some keyboard keys so you'll just have to plug an old non-USB keyboard into the back.

2. If you want a multiplier of 1:1, of course, you set the system memory multiplier to 2. Probably because its DDR2 memory. I guess with DDR3 we'll be setting it to 3. In any event, this will help you OC because for some reason on my board it ended up (not by me) at 2:3 (not 3:2) which will limit your OC.

3. You'll need to download the excellent CPU-Z tool from cpuid.org. If you want memory timings of 5-5-5-15 set the first 4 guys in the MIT section of the BIOS (you hit ctl-f1 first right?) to those numbers. cpu-z will now report 3-5-5-15 with some brands of memory, but it means 5, not 3 honest. Also, for some new CPUs e.g. the e6600 it will report a multiplier of 6.0. But if you run some software it will jump up to 9.0. There is a forum at cpuid.org. You may need to read through the forums for this and other tools. There's a tool that lets you change memory timings on the fly too, I forget the name. Also you should get Easy-Tune from Gigabyte and at least monitor temperatures with that or something better.

4. On the non-OC level, there are 2 issues. Get the Realtek Azalia audio drivers straight from Realtek website, Gigabyte has some old ones up that didn't work for me. The larger issue is to get real clear on if you want your hard drives in 1. IDE emulation 2. AHCI SATA (no raid) or 3. RAID. Either way, you'll need to put the drivers on a floppy and hit F6 during the XP install. (Or roll a slipstream install). I hear its possible to switch after the fact without re-installing XP but I haven't succeeded; the intel driver installer won't unpack the drivers since I'm set up for ATA, a chicken-and-egg problem. I think (1.) may not let you take advantage of SATA-II burst speeds.

For all of that, I'm still stuck at 340 (3.08Ghz), it may post at 360 but XP is unhappy. This is with 5-5-5-15 timings (3-5-5-15 according to cpu-z 1.35) and 1:1 memory ratio. I wonder if its worth relaxing the memory timings but keeping the ratio, to try to get more FSB?

as for the audio. bah.. i never use onboard audio. its never as good as my audigy 2. maybe think about grabbing one. you can get them really cheap around here in the VS section or at other forums.

the DQ6 still hasnt matured as far as the DS3 has, and only Gigabyte knows why.
personally with your current line-up it was a waste to go with teh DQ6 but thats just my thoughts.

Man oh man, what a thread... spent a few hours reading through this one, and it sure as heck was worth it when I saw the new F4e BIOS! The CAS 3 bug has been driving me nuts!

I am currently testing it out right now, looks like I have one core unstable at 485FSB, will continue tweaking and am willing to push as far as 1.4vcore but no further. THe E6300 just gets to hot at 1.36v, and this thing is EXTREMELY heat sensitive! If I run the exact settings in my sig at 53c I can run 24/7 folding or 8 hours dual-Primeing without an error, but once it hits 58c it will throw errors and promptly stop Prime or mess up a WU.

Current issues that I still see with the F4e BIOS: CPU Fan speed is STILL reading 6000+RPMs in Speedfan... I am using a 120mm Zalman 7700Cu cooler, and I know the fan does not go over 2,000RPM.... ;) EasyTune 4, EasyTune 5, and even some beta version of EasyTune5 all do not work and will not start on my machine. The Qflash program in the BIOS will not allow flashing to the F2, F3, and F4c BIOS versions, and only the exact version of @BIOS that comes on the driver CD will flash my BIOS. None of the versions I tried from Gigabyte's website will allow me to flash, also claiming the wrong BIOS versions.

Now here is where it gets good... anyone run XpressRecovery2 from the driver CD during the boot process yet? With a RAID 0 array I might add? I really would like to know, because both times this program got accidentally started, I exited out and one reboot later my RAID 0 array was flubbed. I've had to reinstall XP SP2 with ~60patches, all the mainboard drivers, and usual OC programs three times now and I've given up using RAID for the moment. So anyone else had this problem? Again I never RAN the backup software, it started up and I promptly exited out of it both times...

Just found a stable 485FSB setting, 3.4ghz exactly. Vcore needed a good jump to 1.375v... but upon a hunch I have lowered the FSB Overvoltage to "+0.1v". MCH Overvoltage is at "+0.1v". Doing fine, but temps are getting near to 55c again... I swear this CPU will make a watercooling user out of me yet, that's the only thing holding my OC back.

Haven't even finished this post, and I've just made a 501FSB OC. Ram a 32M SuperPI, installed and am running AquaMark3 now. As long as I keep the CPU temp nice and cool the sky is the limit it seems... :slobber: RAM is at 5-5-5-15 2.1v to ensure it's not a limit. Was going to flash my board today with the F4e BIOS but the reading some of the problems some have had I'm not sure I want to. For those that have done it with success have you done in in DOS or through the Boot screen option?

I have been stuck at a FSB wall of 450 and cannot shift above that. Some people seem to think that it could be to do with the graphics card which is a 7900GT i dont know though, but yeah a complete rundown of your settings would be great

I came, I saw, I flashed to F4e via @BIOS in windows, and lived happily ever after... ;)

F4e fixed the DS3's CAS 3 problem, and so far I have yet to find any drawbacks whatsoever. My OCs range even higher than 376FSB, I can run stable at 385 now, and actually boot and run programs at 501FSB. If I dared to try 1.4v on my CPU I bet I just might stabilize it at 3.5ghz... But the temps would get to hot without good water cooling, so I am going to just run 376FSB 24/7 folding again for awhile.

The BIOS still recovers fine from bad overclock settings for me. Several times I set settings I was sure would preven XP loading and they did, the board would either reboot and at least POST, or it would power cycle itself once very slowly and then POST with stock settings. I am more than happy with this BIOS and board's performance.

Can't say if the F4e BIOS did it, but I followed Thrawyn's post and dropped the FSB Overvoltage back to "stock", and it worked.

476FSB, 3.33ghz, stock MCH & FSB overvoltage, DDR2 RAM running at 2v. (+0.2). My E6300 calls for 1.325v stock, and at these current settings it would run anything from 1.3v through 1.375v!! I was forced to use 1.356v at minimum for a completely stable 3.33ghz overclock though...

I am with youKougar. changing to the F4e made a world of difference for me. i just have to correct my throttling problems.
