Idk what's up with your cards as I been on a steady dieet off 5506's for the past 2 days  There is no magic setting I can give you, just no adv methods (which to my knowledge doesn't do anything )

Idk what's up with your cards as I been on a steady dieet off 5506's for the past 2 days  There is no magic setting I can give you, just no adv methods (which to my knowledge doesn't do anything )
I think it has to do with the number of cards being run... I haven't seen 5748's all the time.. but out of 4 cards going 24/7, I usually have 1 or 2 on a 5748.. this morning at this moment, I don't.. but I had 2 on 5748's when I went to bed... and if I look at fahmon, all my cards have seen them.. imo, it probably has to do with the sheer volume of cards some members run. a user running one card will only sample x number of downloads per day, while a user running 8 cards will sample xxxxxxxx number of downloads per day.. the more x's you have, the higher likelyhood of course you'll see a 5748... a user with one card will sample the same number of dl's in a day, that user with a bunch of cards will in 2 hrs.
Yeah I know statistics, doesn't change the fact that per card the number should be the same ;) No 5748's in my log files, none, got some others which where big as well but not since I took the gpu out of the beta team 2 days.
The likeliness of 5748 occuring increases with each card but the chanche of getting it on 'a' card does not change
so you've never seen a 5748, WOW! that is strange.... we need to find out what island you're on, so everyone can ship on over.. rofl..
Idk either
You're welcome to look at my logs/config files but I can't find the 'magic' there to. Maybe the assignment servers just thought I needed a ppd boost
Edit: uploaded logs and clients.cfg ( had to take that flag out of the prev instance. )
Out of 12 cards, 3 have 5748's ATM...I have seen this as high as 6 or 50%:(
someone please answer my kill a watt meter question...
I honestly don't think we can do anything to prevent getting 5748's on the client side, especially after I played with it the other day trying to get a 55xx... I must have deleted work folders and queues a dozen times trying to pick up a 55xx. and it kept picking up 5748 no matter what I tried.. but that was in the same hr, so maybe that time frame had something to do with it too. maybe the server was in the middle of 5748 bunch it was passing out... I tried again about an hr later and got a 55xx...
anyway...
I see them off and on.. right now I don't have any... but I don't think any of mine get a steady diet of them.... was just looking at my fahmon ppd and comparing it to my actual ppd, and it looks pretty close... but I have been seeing more 2653's on the smp side, and those kinda help boost ppd too... I got so sick of messing with it the other day, I said screw it, just let them go..
here's the fahmon comparison to actual ppd..
The more expensive those killawats are the more 'accurate' they seem to be, but I had a 20e one which seemed to be ok. Dak don't think there are more then 1 kind off killawats
Though with all your hw you should be running an ups anyway I feel, and a good one has the power draw measurement built in. Those ups's will also help when you get a lightning strike, I got bricks with fuses but they are nowhere as good as a good ups.
Edit:
*Aarrghh those screenshots... those screenshots are killing me.. where is the mailman, come on mailman make me happy
( side note, my income again was not transferd on time, again I say yes.. they let me hang 3 months without it in the past, and several times a month at a time, my piggy savings are gone, I can't even buy groceries today god damn it.. no I shouldn't quit folding, I got the money to spend on the things I got, but I need for them to pay me on time, those m'fers )
and just for grins, here's the 5748 data from fahmon

Hey those 8800's are getting the same ppd on 5748 as my 9600gt is on 5506, I should have paid the extra 10 bucks lmao ( I said this before didn't I :sofa: )
yeah, those 5748's love sp count.. kinda makes wish I had g92 8800gts's (128) or gtx260's (196 or216)... but then again I could do without the extra power consumption.... 9800gx2's really aren't that bad on power considering you get 2 clients with 128sp's each @ around 200w total.... that's about the same as a 105w 8800gt (112sp's) client. except I really dont like all the problem reports we've seen recently on the gx2's..
today's scores got buried kind of early this morning a page back..
re posting them here so others coming in wont miss them...

Think your suspicion on QC was spot on, same happend with the q6600's in late life, binning got more agressive and the good clockers where just made into q6700 or up :( Maybe try to get a used one from one off the 3dteam members?
We got some empty spots in there... need to :cord: some people :hrhr:
I should be working on the installer/fahwatcher but I g2g in 30 mins anyway, got a photoshoot with the kiddo and missus :D Will make up for this morning I hope
Maybe when I get back I'll feel better, already gave wfo an intermediate build to pop up on new eue's but haven't finished the rest of the interface and changes so didn't want to put it online. Not to mention I can't log into my serverspace ( l changed the password, but it won't accept the new one trying to log in :sofa: ). Btw, those who are using it, if you have it running now don't exit the application it won't start up again ( hard coded 11-11-08 expiration date, ow wait that means, it won't boot tomorrow, it should do it today ).
Edit: Yiihhhaaa got an a2 core linux project now :D Though fahmon isn't giving ppd yet for it I think that should help put that output higher :hrhr:
I think I'm gonna retire my 9600gso in a month or 2, move my 9800gt from my main rig to that pc.. and get a gtx260 to replace the 9800gt in my main rig and hopefully help my media center playback issue with the larger atom wu's...
192sp gtx 260 is rated at about 140w, and the 216sp is rated at about 180w.
and right now I could get a 192sp msi gtx260 for $200 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127361
hopefully by Jan, maybe that will come down a little for 01Q09 or at least have good rebates like that $40 one the msi linked above..
then I'll have 3 112sp cards folding, and 1 192sp card.. which is not too bad for these bigger wu's..
Well I hope the supervillan days are indeed over soon enough even if it means I'll be chugging on those large wu's a lil slow myself. Scientificly the large wu's are where the gains are at, I won't complain about my low ppd, as long as you don't either
Btw, still making deadlines with 2 days to spare using dual vm's and notfred's. Still waiting on that answer to our added question Mike though, might drop them if it swings in the way of return times. I just which they would see how important it is to loose being political and start being dead honest.
I am ready to rip my hair out.
First, I get back over the weekend, find out the PSU in fold6 is leaking caps. Shut it down and it is waiting for a week before I can repair it. Then, I restart my PC after some windows updates and then my ATI GPU2 client goes crazy and won't work anymore, just EUE. Now, I wake up and find fold3 is sitting there doing nothing, find out it uploaded its finished unit last night, downloaded another 5506, and bam, EUE instantly. And it does that with the next several units, instant kaboom and it goes to sleep for 24 hours  So the only thing working right now is my SMP client. I went from 15000 PPD Sunday down to 2000 now.
Add on the mess at work yesterday and so far this whole darn week has been a disaster :( I hope the rest goes better than this
You can get around that 24hr eue limit by just closing out the client and restarting it. I say for the ATI card reinstall the drivers. Perhaps windows update installed something that screwed it up. Don't give up!
Marvin, how's that a2 coming along? If you get a significant points boost perhaps I'll switch to dual vm's.
Aww, that stinks. How much ram do you have? Why not just go for the 1gb each?
Cuz I run MJ12 and gpu folding, ps vs08 ect and most of the time have them all open at the same time? It's folding now btw ;)
Hang occured a 3% on one instance, other didn't even start. When I left it was 2, think it stalled when the other instance also treid to run an a2 idk. Their both still running now but no unitinfo.txt I can find on either and fahlog shows 2% each but fahMON doesn't read it :(
edit: fahmon picks up the 2% but gives no ppd yet, even with 'only last frame'
:hrhr: :hrhr: :hrhr: :hrhr: :hrhr: :hrhr: :hrhr: :hrhr: :hrhr: :hrhr: :hrhr: :hrhr: :hrhr: :hrhr: :hrhr: :hrhr: :hrhr: :hrhr: :hrhr: :hrhr: :hrhr: :hrhr: :hrhr: :hrhr:
Looks like I needed an a2 to get it steaming  I'm doing twice the ppd on this rig now then I did before.
Both smp's are 2669 btw.
I think I might put this on the c2d, have to talk with v0dka though it's running wcg for him as he is supposed to run his ati card for me, but I think I'm getting the vm linux blues..
Will put the free vmplayer on that one though, this trail workstation will get replaced as well when it expires :D
I'm finding myself a bad person right now, as I told someone darwinian evolution is the most destructive way to 'help' but hell if they don't change the point system to make it clear to EVERYONE science is best served with return times, why shouldn't I try and get the most ppd
Maybe being bad, makes me better :hrhr:
hmmm...Linux VM looks like a good option...I might give it a try...thats over 2000ppd more than what I get out of mine
OOO I'm so excited I think I got the ATI GPU client working again! :woot:
p2501, check out this: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=197751
Somebody posted it in the "WU 5748 GPU?" thread.
What was wrong?
Already posted in the 5748 wu thread I think. The Barnacle has a guide as well somewhere, both of didn't include any pictures and I explained what I done using a trail version of vm workstation but Shadowtester linked below that to the free version of vmware player so I would use that. You can still use my step by step explanation though I think, worked for me ;)
Beats me  Had a set of windows updates that had been nagging me for over a week to get installed so I finally said fine, and when I rebooted the client went into hissy fits and refused to work. As soon as it would engage the core it would spike the CPU to full usage on that core and crash the core, then blame my machine for being unstable and sulk for 24 hours
After a few reinstalls and file deletes and screaming at it, the client finally started normally and the CPU usage gently bumped up to 10% like it should when the core engaged. I have no idea what it's problem was but I hope there are no more windows updates for a while :lol2:
Now all I need is to fix fold6's PSU and I'll be back firing on all cylinders again.
Just got home and see 4 of 5 cards with 5748 wu's. Drops my ppd from over 26k to just under 19k :(
I still have no sign of these 7548 units.... :para:
That's not being dissapointed that's him being relieved and wondering wth we're all complaining about with those wu's he just aint getting
I had one, thought I didn't but picked one up anyway, still just one in the past days it seems :hrhr:
Looks like a photo finish horse race between WFO & RR...:clap:
I think I got an A2 on my E8400 at 3.0...cause its doing more ppd than 2smps on a 3.6 quad lol...instaling vmware now to fix that
reminder: check your gpu temps on 5748's and adjust fans accordingly.. I've noticed about a 6-10c temp increase on mine with these new wu's... luckily all mine were in the 60's on 55xx's, so these 5748's only puts me in the 70's...
I was referring to today, not overall points
showdown at high noon with the big guns :lsfight:
GO! GO! GO!
One day I hope to be up there with you guys.
Mike you may want to slow it down. The Bobs will come after you hard for that extension cord to your shack out back. They don't take stealing electricty lightly.:ROTF:
Marvin, how did you set your priorities to make everything work so well together?
I set the GPUv2 priority to normal manually and that of both VM's to idle in task manager, still I get a points hit on the first GPU...
Edit: I think that's solved, I'm using ProcessLasso to assign priorities and cores, both GPU's back to normal. You said you have two SMP VMX instances running, did you set both up to use 4 or 2 cores (not cores affinities, but in the setup of the VM's)? I'm just asking bc the cores are not 100% loaded, they are varying around 92-100%.
hmmm I cant track through FAHMon...all i have folderwise is "564db2aa-948c-3ee9-a534-20ae233d39d3.vmem.lck" "folding.vmdk.lck" and "folding.vmx.lck" as the folders in there...yet cpu usage is 100% and its showing no problem...any ideas?
That's Linux, it's doing more work while requiring less cpu usage. I think you're running a1 core wu's btw then as they always used about 40% here per vm but the a2's were abit higher. Still had enough to even run mj12 next to gpu folding.
I set both to use 2 cores, but even if you said four it wouldn't matter because the vm only exposes dual cores. What I should do is use that program Afc and set up each vm to use two cores on the same die ( which atm I don't know if it's two on one die or two spread over two dies causing heavy fsb usage. If rr or you pick up a 2669 we can compare ppd abit and if any of us have considerable higher or lower points the core logic is a logical thing to look at ( pun :) )
Btw if you set gpu2 priority manual in taskman it will reset itself on the next work unit ( you did change the fahcore11 or fahcore13 right? not the client itself? ). I set the priority to 'low' in the config options, still got abit of a point hit but not much and most of it is due to mj12.
Network\FOLD-%random string%\etc\folding\1 ( for first instance if set to smp per 2 cores and you run it on a quad core ) or \2 for second instance.
Enable network discovery if you didn't have that on, and during vm setup be sure to leave windows networking enabeld
I think it "cured" itself, unused cycles are now around 3-7% added up for all cores, so I guess it's okay.
I like this a2 core, 2k PPD more....
http://bandwidth.se/imgs/101/0/pointsmadness.png
(96GSO has less points because it's running on 1.19.... again.:shakes:)
I don't know who came up with the idea of VM folding, but thanks to the guy/gal. And thanks to Marvin and the_barnacle too. :yepp::up:
Credit should go to the Barnacle not me, for putting it up here on XS. Or if you really want to go to the source, thank Notfred over at 'The Tech report' for his iso creator and vmware appliance apps.
Though we could use some updates in his config thread, and an easy explanations of the steps required to clone the vm to run two instances. Think that didn't happen then because we had an argument over the ppd drop on the gpu2 clients. Dual vm's and my single low end gpu2 client is worth the hit, but if you run two high ppd gpu's it's diffrent. And iirc he wasn't running vista so he needed a core for gpu alone but I'm entirely unsure about that  I think me and The Barnacle had some arguments over it, and I think I should be considerd the guilty party in that as my communication skills are less then stellar. As I remember it we had some diffrences in how it should be explained but that was only because we both had only our own configs in mind, atleast I think that was what happend with me.
Anyway, The Barnacle brought it up here, he should get the credit. I just hope he will update his guide to consider more options then currently in there. I'm not that comfortable with writing guides for people
Windows updates last night for vista.. and they were a reboot update... FYI
Yup just done them as well ( I mean, I had them in my tray asking for the reboot and done the reboot this morning ). All went well though, just had to remind myself to not do the nvidia update :poke: :sofa:
Where the charts Mike, we want to see how RR and WFO are doing :hrhr:
edit: couple of posts up.. darn I'm just constantly wanting to see the fight evolve hehe but the stats only get updated that many times a day :(
Team Foxtwat. please welcome your newest member Jettasin
Ok this isn't right but I thought I'd post it for lulz anyway :hrhr:
And welcome Jettasin
thanks for reminding me, I had forgot about your pm last night... reports will be here in a bit..
man, what a pita. I've been trying to do the spreadsheets this morning and my copy/paste actions have been messing all up.. lagging across firefox and open office.. very sluggish. I rebooted, no help... I was starting to get miffed... so then I though , let me check my clients.. sure enough I was on a 5748.. I shut the client down and all the copy/paste between FF and OO returned to normal. man, these 5748's are a pita... this is the first 5748 I've seen on this rig while trying to move 40 indiviual user scores from 40 html pages to cells in a oo spreadsheet. the pc could not keep up with a 5748 going... too many mouse actions..
:welcome: aboard, Jettasin!!
:wtf: :up::up::up:
Welcome Jettasin. Good choice in teams, they are gonna need all the help they can get. :D
What are NF1 and NF2? Don't tell me you got that outta one quad?

I guess that's not standard behaviour?!? I lost the unit at 100%.. just checked, the client ran out of memory. Isn't the Vm automagically getting more ram when it needs it?
No that is not standard behavior andI have no idea on vmware, I use straight Ubuntu...
For VM and the smp I recommend at least 1.5gig per instance which will leave at least 1 gig for the client to use which should prevent running out of ram.
:welcome: Jettasin
Thanks for the welcome everyone. Im using a GTX260 and a q66 @ 3. running individual clients per core. couldnt get the smp to install. vista kept throwing up the program is not responding right in the middle of the command line install. any suggestions. Also tried using VMWare to run Ubuntu but it couldnt see my wireless network.
I run atm with just half that and no problems, though the a2 did throw up with just 512.
p2501 that's one quad, but the count was off it's about 8k+ now total with 2 a2 projects and the 9600gt ( which is getting chocked since the vm's use almost all and I got allot of other apps running as well, think it will pick up another 500ppd atleast when I go to bed and close the stuff which isn't needed at night.
Going to change the c2d to linux vm tomorrow  v0dka pm'd me about it, he might be joining fah as well :hrhr:
:welcome:
hmmm...are you 100% sure of your overclock...F@H is really sensitive...prime stable or OCCT stable does not equal F@H stable...I had to back off from 3.7 to 3.6 to make it work for myself
Also disable the Vista F/U stuff, can't remember what it's called...Vodka set in ya know....The PITA Vista thingy (tech terms used). I have smp & gpu's working wel on Vista with the F/U stuff off...
Now that I'm good & buzzed again...
Penalty to PG
Suspension to PG

All because of the infamous 4758's
So sorry, PG...:rofl::rofl::rofl:
F/U in dak lingo means: I'm Flippin' Under-the-table man, so RTFM if you can't understand me. :D
This is true, but my system is really weird. I was running dual smp's on my q6700 at 3.6ghz (400x9) with a low voltage, something like 1.4v, and I couldn't get my second core in prime95 to get stable, no matter how high I went up I couldn't get it stable, but folding worked on it no problem without any eueing. Very strange.
Well SMP is up and running as well as GPU2. Hopefully I can start pounding some units out.
think im in for a long day

Jettasin which client are you running? That's way to slow for your q6600
I should be happy Whiskey is in the lead.. but I'm not :poke:
Edit: btw, it's almost done now, going to post a teasing thread in a couple of minutes for ya :hrhr: Only issue I had that it missed some updates during the night, but I think I know why and that should be fixed now :sofa:

I'm not too happy this morning either. I ate mexican food yesterday that obviously had something tainted in it... I was up half the night last night with intestinal cramps spewing projectile streams out my butt. I drank half a bottle of pepto between 1am and 6am... my lower stomach/intestine muscles feel like I did about a 200 sit-ups yesterday...
Oww jeez I wonder how many hits XS is gaining with all those referree pictures being posted here
I never had any luck with the deino client on my windows rig, mpcih has worked ok for the most part...
yeah i have the -smp -deino -verbosity 9 flags. Im showing 4 FahCore_a1.exe processes and CPU in task manager is showing 100% across all 4 cores. FahMon is showing this to be worth 1920 points. The client is doing 1% every 20 minutes or so now.
20m is good enough, better then close to an hour which your other post showed
ahhh...I have another problem :( ...my virtual machine has run out of memory?...what does that mean and how do I fix it? It stops all folding when this happens
How much memory have you allocated? I got no problems atm with just 768 but Shadowtester said to use even double that ( which no way I will do but anyway fyi he has way more experience with this then I do. ).
how do you allocate memory?...because I have not touched that part yet
Right click on the vm in your left pane and select options?]
Or when the vm is selected, press VM in the top menum and in the drop down menu choose 'settings'.
Note that I vmware workstation not vmware player but I think their pretty much the same in this aspect?
wait a minute...i'm feel pretty stupid now...i had it on a 2gb usb that was full...go for not thinking lol...oh and one of them was rounding 800mbs the other at 600ish and another file on it that carried it to 2gb
Mhm ok I just run them from hdd, much easier I think. Only use the usb option on dedicated crunchers where you don't want to shell out for an hdd.
