i managed to lower my timings somewhat , to 5-5-5-15-42 still cant get 4-4-4 it just goes spastic if i do . no shortage of volts either. but i did get mhc and performance level to 8. is lower or higher better? not much info on these settings.
also i tried e-a-e-e-e- /e-a-a-e-e- but it wouldnt post . tried many times same result ,no post. c1 sometimes sticks on 25.
im not sure why my latency is so slow . ive tried differenct modules -double sided ballistix this is all highend gear im using . psu cpu etc it should be giving me alot more. i cant even get 4-4-4-12 with 2gb ram. im starting to think its the board. every change i make makes it c1 . does this board ever not c1 lol its all it does , its like its being designed to c1 on a pro level. its so annoying.tested my ram on another system and it runs great but on this board it just gives u c1.
I managed to fix stable my UT X48 with a Q9450 cpu and 4x2gb g.skill 8500 at 3400mhz (8x425), with the following settings:
CPU 1.35000v
DRAM 2.03v
SB 1.510v
NB 1.392v
VTT 1.250v
GTL 115-107-100
considered this is my first attempt with DFI I cannot complain that much if somebody has any suggestion to fine tune even better my settings feel free to do so, my end goal is to reach stable 3600mhz (8x450) for 24/7 usage.
Just purchased 4x1GB Cellshock PC-2 8500 D9GMH 64Mx8 chips from MemoryC. I hope these clock better than my 4x1GB PC-2 8500 D9GKX Mushkins did on this board. I had a hard time getting 5-5-15-42 @ 1067MHz PL7 stable on this board when I was running 5-4-4-12-32 @ 1067MHz PL7 on my Maximus/Rampage conversion. This has got to me my last DDR2 purchase or I am never going to be able to move up to DDR3.
need help guys.....:)
just bought E8400 but i dunno why, nothing can detect it, whats going on here...? heres the ss of real temp, everest, core temp, and cpuz.....

anyone any idea whats going on ?
thx
anubis_is_evil, is multicore processing enabled or disabled in bios?
Hi guys can any1 tell me if this looks ok for my new oc.
http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg211/wils07/RAM.jpg
You were able to hit 4-4-4-12 @ 1000MHz w/ your Mushkins on this board? If so, what NB voltage did you need? I would have been happy with those timmings @ 1000MHz but for some reason I couldn't get CAS4 to work. Did you have to lax PL in order to get such tight timmings?
I don't know, to me your Rd speed seems rather low and your latency high. Couldn't you choose a different divider to increase throughput and maybe go 5-4-4-12 w/ your timmings? I was in the mid 9000's with a much lower latency running 1067 @ 5-4-4-12 on my old Formula/Rampage board.
Hi to All,
One simple question: is the bios from 20-03-2008 the last one for the LT board?
In DFI website, it's the last one available, but in the beta section this board is not even listed there...
This seems strange, because I've read here some time ago about a new bios comming out soon...but that "soon" seems to be 1 or 2 months ago...
HastaSSSS :)
That's a 2 gig kit though, right? So I'd probably need around 1.55V for a 4 gig kit then, about the same as I needed with my old board. Have you tried to hit CAS4 w/ 4 gigs? I'm starting to think its nearly impossible to hit CAS4 w/ 4 gigs.
I spoke with Clunk the other day and he had said that the new BIOS should be out any day now, until then 0320 is the current BIOS.
Thankx for the info m8
[offtopic] Love your headhones m8. Just awesome! [/offtopic]
:D
touge im thinking about buying the exact same ram ,4x1gb as well. ill wait to see how far u can push urs though  if u can get close to 4-4-4-12 at 1000mhz + then ill get em for sure.
just curious ,what error code were u getting with ur mushkins when ur timings were to tight?
Thanks for the info zsamz. I thought I had tried a PL of 8 with all pullins set to Auto but I was still getting errors @ 1000MHz 5-4-4-12 w/ 2.3V on the 5:4 divider and about the same nbv as yours. Maybe my trusty ol Mushkins are slowly dying, too bad. I'll give all this a whirl when I get my cellshocks from MemoryC.
I don't know when I will be getting my cellshocks from MemoryC. I chose 1 day delivery but then I realized that they are located overseas--for some reason I thought they were a Canadian company. I sent them an email asking how they could offer 1 day shipping to America but didn't get a response yet.
As for erros, I used memtest to check for stability @ 5-4-4-12 and was getting errors about 5 minutes into testing. When trying 4-4-4-12 it wouldn't load windows.
yeh same , seems like its hard getting tighter timings with this board. i have noticed though its alot faster and more stable with 2x1gb 1141mhz with 5-5-5-12-30 pl 8 than with 4x1gb 1141mhz 5-5-5-15-47 . not only with benchmark results but i dont seem to get many errors now, unless i try 4-4-4- then it just dies.
instead of getting 4x1gb of cells or team im thinking of just sticking with 2x1gb and getting this gtx 280 nxt mnth, it has 1gb of ramdec so that would solve alot of slow gaming issues i have with vista .i noticed a massive difference with vista/gaming when i upgraded from a 7800/256 to a 8800/512
Yeah, I've been told by some over at the Formula/Rampage post not to expect much performance from using 4x1GB kits as these boards were not designed for such usage and that it puts too much stress on the NB but......
If you don't need the extra RAM then go for the 2x1GB set-up and save your cash for the video card. You'll definitely see better performance going that route.
After some further fine tuning I found optimal settings for 24/7 usage at 3400mhz, here are my settings for who is willing to use/tryout them:
CPU 1.33750v
DRAM 2.03v
SB 1.510v
NB 1.367v
VTT 1.250v
GTL 115-107-100
I will try next to pump up to 3600mhz as in my past experience I found some problem to reach the needed stability I am research, if anyone has stable settings at 3600mhz and wan't share them let me know :)
Hi Guys,
I currently have a Maximus Formula SE, was wondering whether a switch over to the DFI X48 (LT) would be of noticeable change.
So would it be a good change? Has anyone made such a transition before?
Just found this link:
http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?f...e&dno=6395&i=1
DFI doesnt have the latest x48 drivers, everything comes up as x38 in the system section of device manager. But after installing the above - all good! :)
PS. I'm LOVING THIS BOARD!!!!!!!!:up::up::up::up::shocked::shocked::shocked:
I thought I was a veteran overclocker - how wrong I was!!! This board is a killer for configuration, soooo many bleedin edge options, and all where it counts, memory stability... just wish there was a paragraph that in just a few words could tell me what it all means lol.... Newbie I most definitely aint, but this motherboard is like showing a VB programmer some C++....
I'll be back with some updates and loads of questions, so you guys who've been through the late nights and beers/coffees and countless CMOS clears - dont run away just yet! I need help!!!!
I've watercooled the CHIPSET/CPU/GPU (in that order) using 1/2" tubing, Apogee GT block on the CPU and the similar looking version for the northbridge and a Danger Den Ione 8800 (92v) gpu block.
Also removed the heatsink from the mosfet area, and removed the nasty gunk that was there (highly recommended, looks like the this paste they use just ripples to the sides so definitely not as effective as it should be, so replaced it with some AS5. Did the same for the southbridge, I know it barely heats up but what the heck I was bored! :D
I still cant get my head round how STABLE this board is, once you go D-F-I you aint ever going back to M-S-I... lol
I had the Gigabyte x38 board, pile of crap IMHO, it didnt last with an extreme clock (and yup I do have fans all over the place to keep things cool, I think its :banana::banana::banana:ty dual-bios implementation didnt work quite right and totally screwed the board up when it tried to recover from a fatal crash or something).... The Asus Maxi just had too many operational quirks...
DFI - PLEASE JAZZ UP YOUR SMARTGUARDIAN SOFTWARE WITH SOME SLICK VISTA SKINNING FOR US VISTA FOLKS - IT LOOKS LIKE A 50 YEAR OLD WROTE THE SOFTWARE USING 80'S GUI SKILLS!
a SXS way to have your board walking the green mile by putting as5 on a pwm, migrating conductive paste on a pwm whop would have thought that that was a good idea especially when every1 says mx-2 or cermiq (mx-2 being preferred)
i hope that u didnt also as5 your grafix card
Good point... but that was more of an issue before version 5 came out.
"Arctic Silver 5 contains over 88% thermally-conductive filler by weight. In addition to micrometre sized silver, Arctic Silver 5 also contains sub-micrometre zinc oxide, aluminum oxide and boron nitride particles."
It should be noted that AS5, although slightly conductive and capacitive, is not as great a danger to electronics as believed. Its ability to capacitively couple adjacent traces only becomes a problem under high pressure.
ages ago during my foolish years i used AS5 on my 6800 Ultra
a little bit got on the contacts and thought i killed the card when it wouldnt boot up
i cleaned it up and then it worked again
after that i dont bother with AS5 anymore i only use ceramique or more recently mx-2
It is not a real conductor, it is rather more a capacitive substance, it will change the impedance across electrical points if under pressure. When applying, you just need to be careful to just spread a thin layer where you need it. AS5 does not run, it cures over 200-250 hours, becomes a thick gasket clay type material and thats when it comes to its own. The problem with many reviewers is that they dont cure the damn thing before testing its ability against other compounds. If you let it cure across 200 hours of continuous hot-cold cycling (regular PC on sessions and the switched off overnight etc)... you will notice its thermal conductivity improves over time, from 2-5degress in most cases...
Correct application is 9 tenths of the law in these things... ;)
I use it everywhere, from CPU to GPU to MOSFETs... I even use it as toothpaste now and again! great stuff... :ROTF:
finally, was able to run my DDR2 at 1020 4-4-4-12 2.3v, vNB 1.5v, OCCT 2 hours. Tried with 5-5-5-15 2.25v Orthos blend 16 hours, it's amazing coz with my abit x38 i cannot post with 1000 5-5-5-18 even with higher vDimm and vNB, will try memtest..
also, with enhance data transmit fast, enhance addressing fast and T2 dispatch enabled really add more speed
love this board
asap
well i was going to be a member here of the x48 club.. the new board i got just went up in smoke.. burned up fet melted really bad.. so i guess im out for a good while seeing as i sold my x38 to get this one.. this sucks
do they warranty a board bought used from another member here?? if not guess i will not be building this for a while
yes i have, my board already have the newer bios, but i tried to update it once again, but it still won't detect the cpu..
yes, but it seems not detect complete of the the cpu, real temp is detect it but why only one core ???
the one thing is funny, when i attach E84 in the first time it does'nt detect, but when i start the computer in the next morning, it's finally detect it, oww it feel so glad, but now it's undetected again, realy2 weird going on :( damm what the hell happen here....thinks to throw this board away :( back to maximus again.. :(
sorry bout ur board anubis , go for RMA m8 :) it has spectrum warranty if im not mistaken, same as abit. I have 2 of my abit being RMAd and they are quite well with their services... unless if they already had their own ditro.
good luck
Either a dud board or you got something funny going on in there, do you have access to another CPU other than your 8xxx? bang it in and see what happens... also check that all your pins in the CPU socket are pointing north all equally, also inspect your board - follow all traces on rear and on front just to make sure you or someone else havent accidently broke a trace...
First try the other CPU thing, if its still a problem then RMA definitely, but always helps to do a bit of investigation - speeds up the RMA process and also peace of mind if you can suss it out... Good-luck...!
Just a quick question, whats the difference between 1.0 and 1.0A as to the video,ie PCI-E in bios?
Reason I ask is that I am switching my vid from an HD3870 which is 2.0 and bios detects 1.0A for the setting, and am going to an 8800GTX and just figured I may need to switch it to 1.0 in bios?
Thanks
Larry
Can any1 tell me the difference between using 400;800 and 333;667 because both give a 1.1 ratio ???
Thanks Paul.
Thanks m8, so 400;800 should help me overclock more that if it was set at 333;667. I only ask as when im messing with occt i can get code 1 and code 4 errors so by using 400;800 i could push my cpu more because of the looser strap on the ram??
finally, it detects my E8400 :( weird !
so i tried to pushed it while it detect...
some how its hard for me to clock my E84 into 4.4Ghz 440 X 9...:shakes:
is it true that this X48 have limitation ??? :(
anyone can help me the best voltage setting to raise up about 500 X 9 ?
and btw what is the perfect GTL should be ? is't neccessary to use GTL ?
thx........
every chip may vary m8, i reckon around 1.37 - 1.44 for that clock.. my Q6600 needs only 1.4v stable at 3.6 with this board instead of 1.47v with my old x38 quadGT, but u can find tons of guide here if u havent read.
good luck
no probs, bro ;)
happy to hear that 45nm of yours working well now
trima kasih
Not sure if this was posted before, but TomsHardware just did an X48 roundup here:
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...d,1941-29.html
And guess what..the DFI came out on top as the best CPU overclocker..:)
http://media.bestofmicro.com/Z/U/106...l/image042.png
I can't wait for a bios update I hate the fact that my usb or ps2 keyboards won't respond sometimes at boot.
here's a bench of everest photoworxx DFI x48 vs Asus MF at the same clock. guess which one is faster ;)
How have these boards been fairing from a QC point? I will consider buying one tomorrow if people haven't been having too much trouble with the lottery.
EDIT : I see some people have had issues. Time to see what the warranty policy is at my shop haha.
@Martinm210 & safan80: thanks for posting! but this article from HardwareZone is making the DFI get burned by a clown board.
Bloody hell it is so confusing. HardwareZone got a low OC but I'm going to blame it on their skills. I'm still deciding on whether to get this board or wait for P45. I don't see P45 being that much cheaper, especially when everyone starts piling on the extra things like 4 ethernet ports.
Cellshocks came today. MemoryC rocks for cheap fast shipping:up:. I've got to go to work in about 30 minutes so I'll mess around with them tomorrow morning and post back my results/problems.
works goods cell shock with this board...

LANPARTY LT X48-T2R
2008/05/30
File X48AD530.exe
Major Reasons of Change:
Added New Micro Code for 45nm family CPUs
praz: - nice results with 4gb.and vantage. my score was alot lower than that , i wont post it since its fairly misserable lol
just wondering if u tried tighter settings with ram and what happend . also do u think theres any benifit to setting tref higher ? with either latency or stability? i have mine on 16383T but didnt notice a difference . not sure what its function is exactly.
What is the maximum FSB with dual core support in this motherboard?
It's possible 555MHz in the bus ?
very nice praz
hey praz in your opinion which board do you like better for max crasy clocks, the p35 ut t2r or the x48 t2r?
Hey guys i'm about to buy the lt x48-t2r, from your results with this board do you think it is the best at that price range? i mean there are quite a few x48 ddr2 mobos at about the same price
Whew... 60 Pages is a lot to read! Mind you, after the first 15-20 pages, I started skimming a bit more as most was just about different overclocking/tweaking settings... which will be more important for me later on down the road.
Hi! I've actually been a member here for sometime, but havent posted (or logged in!) for sometime. In fact, my last visit was 12-06-2006! I've been on the same system since, and it being an oldy, havent had much to post about it. However, I am thinking its time to start looking at a new system.
After much looking, the LT T2R (X48, DDR2 and non-heat pipe) is looking like the board for me! Now I've used DFI products before (LP Pro875B...old!) and thought they boards were great. However, my experience with cust/tech support frustrated me SO much over many months that I swore off DFI and went with ASUS (P4c800EDLX). Yet this time around, I am not liking the looks of Asus and DFI is looking better.
After reading the posts here, and Clunk's awesome review (congrads!) I really think this board will be great but still have a few questions.
I'd like to use a Quad Core, Q9450 - not an Extreme edition. Initially I will not be doing much (or any) overclocking. However, after I regain the loss of buy this board, I will eventually move to water cooling (water cooled 95% of my computer building time) - mainly CPU and FETs and maybe NB. Posts have said the Q9450 has a pretty stiff wall yet reviews else where show it oveclocking pretty well. Any thoughts on this? (EDIT: What about unlocking multipliers? I always thought intel processor multipliers were locked up tight unless you got ES or EEs. That still true cause I've seen a lot of unlocked processor pics around).
Im up in the air about using either an HD 3870 or an HD 3870X2. Ive read there is a problem and there was a link to another forum but couldn't find what the cause/solution was. Any thoughts on this one?
Thanks all! Hopefully these questions are okay to post here (should I've made a new thread instead)?
One quick thing... this may seem wrong coming from a person new to this technology but back in the day I was big in oveclocking and stressing.
I am a little disturbed by people calling their system "Stable" and posting screenies with Prime95 after only 4-5 hours. I never call a system stable unless it has ran Prime95 for 24 hours the right way (9-10 priority with screen savers and all other apps closed). I've oveclocked systems that run prime95 for 4-5 hours yet show errors around hour 18 or 19. Yet if it runs 24 hours... It will run forever (tested up to 56 hours).
I'm not trying to come in an start being all high and mighty but just from my years of overclocking (Socket 370 and 478...long time) that's how we dealt with it. Just my 2 cents. Sorry this got off topic!
The only thing I tried tighter was tRD. There is no problem running a straight tRd of 7 with a slight bump in NB voltage. As the only way to set tREF is with MemSet I haven't messed with it. I think the bottom portion of this post explains why that is.
For max FSB as has already been posted the P35 for sure.
Any non-Extreme 45nm quad a person can expect 3.2 out of it. 3.4 if they are lucky enough to get a really good one regardless what review sites would have one believe. If speeds faster then this is expected out of these processors then it's time to pony up a grand for the QX.
Although 3870 cards work fine at this time there is a compatibility issue with the X2 version
As 4 to 5 hours of Prime comprises most of my screenshots I'll assume the last bit was directed at least partially at me. Have to remember we are no longer dealing with yesterday's AMD processors. In the here and now extended runs of Prime mean very little. There are plenty of users that will tell you that 24, 48 or however many hours of Prime run successfully doesn't count towards much when the first app or game you launch crashes before it even finishes loading. You can be sure that 10 loops of Crysis, rendering in 3dMax or the full 1 1/2 hour run of PCMark Vantage tells more of system stability then countless hours of Prime.
Most of the screenshots I post here are done so as secondary. The main purpose of them are to be used as a starting point for users that are having difficulties with the board on another forum. I have never once stated they would be 100% stable for someone else but rather as a point to work from. That is also the reason most of my settings are never maxed out. Would be of no benefit to a user to post settings that were on the ragged edge.
Are there other benchmarks I'd like to run or maybe allocate more time for? Sure but as I work with more boards in a week then most users do in a year that is not something practical or possible.
nicely put praz
i myself test stability with games lol crysis is a verry good test
Praz you are just as helpful and knowledgable to me as you were to everyone else in this thread! Thanks alot for the input.
3.2-3.4 sounds great in my opinion! An overclock like that would be wonderful since right now I am not looking at much - this system will blow anything I have now out of the water so whats a few extra cycles going to do?
What type of memory would go well with the system? I have always used OCZ memory but notice few people here are using that. Should I get DDR666 or DDR800? If my memory works properly, DDR should be twice the external clock or half the FSB (since the FSB is quad pumped)... under that assumption DDR666 would make sense because the 9450 has a 1333 fsb, right?
Is there any fix for the 3870X2 or should I just get 2 3870s and use cross fire? This board support PCIe2.0 x16 in cross fire (and doesnt revert to x8), am I right?
And praz, no! My comment about prime95 24 hour stable WASNT at you, just something I am noticing across various other boards. You bring up an interesting point about the current relavence of prime95 stability versus other applications. "Back in my day" we often practiced if it was not 24 hours prime95 stable, then the system is not stable. If you are just trying to get a benchmark, then needing 24 hour stable isnt that important.
But if you want it to be stable for normal use, isnt it a good practice to use 24 hour check? The reason I ask is, say you are watching some HDTV, burning a DVD, rendering your latest 3D image and encoding your latest movie you "Acquired" from the internet... all those applications running will sure to push all cores to 100%. If it threw an error in P95, isnt it safe to assume it will do so here? Thats why, in my opinion, it seems important to run for 24 hours to check for complete stability.
Thats just how I do it but, as you said, this isnt the old AMD days!
Once again, thanks for the reply!
i want to get some good memory for this board what would be the best 2x2gig kit i was looking at these

what do you guys think?
thanks praz+zsamz
just ordered another dfi p35 ut i like them alot.
@@danmoody
i'v had the same set for two weeks on my ut p35 there ok but pita to o/c sometimes so i use them for gaming only not benching.
get the 2x2 domintors same price this week
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145197
^^^ if you ever get the rebate ive been waiting FOREVER now..
power chips R are the top, they are rated for 1200mhz cas6 or cas5 with single sticks if im not mistaken and are in nearly everything even the red line (but internal binning puts dominators higher than the gskill 1000 and up with the gskill 1066 but those are 8 layer and the pi line is 8 layer)
and they ripped u off, gkx sells for like $150 a 2x1gb or did u kill them, or were u helping some1 out and they are out of production from micron so that cant hurt the price
the last set were deffective from day 1 gave me 1 error per pass anything above 830mhz
4th rma on the mushkins was gettin tired of it n 3+ weeks of just waiting to even get something shipped back is ridiculous
only 1 outa my 4 mushkins were d9gkx
them redlines better be good lol hope they were not binned too low:rofl:
i seen many sets hit 1100+ they should be good for surfin + daily tasks
i bought a set of 2x1gkx for 70$ and a set of 2x512 for 8$ so ... lol both my dfi boards dont wanna clock them too high so i run em cas3
funny how from all my d9 only my mushkins kept on dyin lol n my gigabut boards killed em all:rofl:
Been playing with this board for the past few days, its AWESOME! Still cant get over how well it clocks and nicely it plays when it doesnt like a clock.
For those that havent figured it out yet:
Hold down rest button for 2 seconds - then keep the reset button pressed whilst pressing down the reset button too, hold both buttons down for about 4 seconds and then let go of the power button first, then the reset button. Thats the way I do it, and it always goes back to default settings and boots up and then I restore one of the configs from the 4-banks storage space in the bios. :) SWEET AS!
Ok, I've managed to clock this thing to 4ghz on a Q6600G0, but thats taking my cpu to the limits and its unstable as f***.
So a reasonable clock, 24/7 stability required (do a lot of video compression etc work), and also good on the temps. Found a sweet-spot at 3.7ghz.
As we all know, 4 x 2GB sticks of RAM pushes the x48 to its knees in comparison to 2x1GB sticks mega-overclocking... so I'm pretty chuffed I've achieve this level of clock at exceptional temps and lovely stability. DFI you are the nuts! (I'm still waiting for a vamped up better looking version of SmartGuardian!)
Ok, enough with the words, heres a screenshot of it all.

I'll bang up my bios settings if anyone wants them too... :)
SXS I think your VTT could be lowered. I think even mine (VTT) is a little high. here's a run of superpi at my OC of 4Ghz ram is 1:1.
4ghz!!! with 8GB!!!! thats an awesome clock safan, is that running Prime stable?
Ok I'll try and bring the VTT down...
I'm running the 65nm quad, is the 45nm quad really that much better an overclocker??? Sounds sweet!
You got a picture of your install? as in inside PC case? :yepp:
yes it's prime stable. I had the chip running at 4.4Ghz in a different board a while back but the heat dump cooked my room, so 4Ghz it is. As for my case it's a hacked up P180. I haven't changed the loop config at all just the motherboard a few times and the graphics card. here's a pic of the case when I made the loop. it's the same exact loop but with dirty tubing :ROTF: I'll take more pictures when I either install a GTX 280 with water or add the waterblock I got for my 9800gx2.
anyone know if the enzotech CNB R1 will work on the NB with this board
if not what over options do i have if i want to mount the TRUE so it exhausts out the back
i cant use the HR-05 SLI
enzotech lists 53.5mm diameter support, which might just not make it if you have the DFI UT X48-T3RS which has ~55mm diameter NB holes.. not sure if it's same as my UT X48-T2R (haven't measured it yet).
I opted for HR-05 instead

they need to make that pwm sink a stand alone product
I can't get 4gb (2x2gb) to work at all on the x48 lt board. I am not even overclocking..all stock settings and during my windows install, my PC keeps on freezing. I tried both green and yellow slots and still same problem...any help guys? I tried the Corsair 4gb kit and now the G.Skill...same problem.
Only settings I set were 5-5-5-15 and vdimm to 2.10 and tried to run the memory with 333 strap and memory running at 1066 default speeds.
