Wire or rocker switch sound good, but that adapter is really nice! Thanks to both of you, now I know how to setup a quad 295 rig, if I ever get the money to pay that kind of electricity bill lol. But it's nice to know. :)

Well looks like I may have solved my PSU issue. I switched some plugs around on the modular PSU and it raised my 12V back up to 11.95V and I'm consuming 770W...so I think this is a bit of improvement over the 11.84V and 900W+. Time to overclock and crunch crunch crunch!!!
Okay well just filed my tax return looks like I'm going to bite the bullet and buy...
i7 920
EVGA X58
Corsair Dominator (3x1GB)
2x EVGA 295's
Now all I gotta do is get is going for this competition :D
lucky you!
I need to file mine. Probably won't go to any crunching stuff though, I have no real job and need to pay down school loans and car payments and such  I do plan on setting aside some for a little stuff but it won't be anything earth-shattering.
I think I'm going to completely switch over all my DFI boards to EVGA. DFI boards have been quirky as of late with me. Trying to find a EVGA 780i so I stop running into nvidia gpu issues.
Slap me, I rebooted my PC because of an AV update requiring restart and forgot to start the GPU client back up on my 4870
12 hours of work missed :(

:eh::eek::shocked::eek2::nuts:
I never thought I'd say this but there's no better way to describe it than with those smileys.
Interesting, If I didn't had that many instability issues I wanted 3x 295 GTX but the drivers sucked and I said no ... I want to play and work on that PC not just watch it fold
Still pretty nice, but I rather spent $_$ on goodies :hehe:
1070watts without SMP per 4 cards......calculator time :)
One in each room and turn off all the heating in the house might offset some of the cost
I don't need a calculator 38 X $500 is 19K just for the GPUs. On his website i think hardware costs were 3 large per node and 9.5 nodes = is 28.5 K for hardware.1070WX 9.5 X 24 X 30 divided by 1000 times whatever the KW rate is more than I could ever afford.
Anyone having any luck with the new 182.06 drivers? Seem to work a little a better, but having some compatability issues running three cards though.
Haven't tried them. 181.20 runs perfectly in XP so I'm sticking with them for now. I've just been fighting on my main rig with a driver change on my ATI card, 9.1 was causing random system pauses while folding, and 9.2 just came out so I installed them and so far so good.
And the HD in fold1 pretty much quit today, so I'm imaging the drive to another one (which is taking forever) so I can get the last gfx card online for the race. Figures the drive has to wait until now right before the race starts to fail.
I think it is still having issues with .NET framework 3.5. What version is everyone running still? 2.0???
I thought I had 3.5 on one of my boxes but apparently not. I only see up to 2.
Quick question on vga dummies, when using a dual card in vista such as the GX2 or 295 do you need a dummy for each dvi port or just one per card?
On my dual 9800GX2 rigs, it's 1 monitor and 3 dummies per rig. On the GTX 295s, you'll have to figure out whether the 2nd gpu is associated with the 2nd DVI port ot the HDMI port. It may vary with different brands. My MSI is associated with the HDMI. In either case... one GTX 295 1 dummy. 2 GTX 295s= 3 dummies.
:( at the current moment I have three gx2's on only 3 dummies.
You think bestbuy or radioshack will sell them?
Yes radioshack will have adapters and resistors.
Radio shack should have the risters. You should have gotten the DMI to VGA adapters with the cards. :) Fry's would definitely have what you need if there is one close.
Well just got back from Radioshack with all the accessories going to install vista32 and give things a go any benefit on going with vista64 yet?
When I went vista I went 64 bit. 32 bit is old :p:
But the only real benefit of 64 bit is you use the whole of your CPU and can use 4+GB RAM mainly
the whole of the cpu? you mean lower cpu usage?
I mean, the CPUs these days are 64 bit capable but on a 32 bit OS you are only using "half" the CPU in that way :p: not sure how much of a difference it makes for most things though. You generally won't notice the difference probably.
okay you have me convinced I'll roll with vista64 :) but now when I install it gives an error saying its not win32 compatible.
install what?
Jeeze could I run into a little bit more trouble. Okay so I am running Vista64 with nvidia 182.06 drivers because none of the other drivers work. For some reason when I run the SMP client its drops the score on 9800GX2 -3 dramatically. Heres a screen any suggestions? BTW its a 353WU so it should be roughly 6k like 9800GX2 -2.
What is the CPU usage of each of the fahcore_11?
Set the GPU clients to one notch above idle for the CPU core priority and have SMP on idle. That'll give the GPUs a little bit of preference and may help.
To make sure the smp doesn't step on the GPUs you can use Prifinitty to set the priority of core 11 to "above" or "real time." The smp should already be set to idle.
http://www.geocities.com/edgemeal_so...nity/index.htm
Tried setting to a higher priority but no luck...I think I will just run only two video cards and go back to xp32 atleast that stable with running smp.
You are sure it isn't just the WU? Some of the 511 pointers will drag them as low as 3800 ppd. :(
Positive itll be at roughly 6k a day when its overclocked, I'll let it run for a bit then start SMP and after like 2% more its drops to like 2.5k. Oh well it gives me the excuse of instead of trying to run 3 cards in one rig, run 2 cards in this one and go build another :)
i just got home this morning i do a lot of traveling for my work i got 1 dead psu and 1 dead vid card.i just ordered a new psu a seasonic
M12D SS-750 to replace an old 750 coolermaster realpower sli i got it when they first came out so it serve me well, i should be getting
my new 260s in today i hope if the tracking order is correct so i will be up and runing soon. i got jet lag so off to bed i go,
i will get things up and running after my little nap
Oh that's a joy to come home to
yup it was but i had that psu since the old nf3 days so i cant complain. got say it was worth the money spent back then the good news is my psu is coming from NJ so i will get it tomorrow
hehe i love the egg and the ups man woke me up now im playing with 2 gtx 260s and trying to get them running with wine good lord its no easy task but i will get them running in ubuntu and wine.
so be warned guys if i cant get it running there going to be some pain in the ars new threads hehe.
i might write a tutorial but right now i can get both cards to fold to 30% then they error out so im still playing with the cuda wrapper i think i almost got it ive bin up all night playing with it.and im going to take a nap where is shadowtester when i need him lol.
Woot! 11,000,000 on the last update. I just wish I could afford to keep the hammer down. :( I just got word PG&E is installing "Smart Meters." If you use too much power in peak periods, (And they determine what is "too much.") they make you grab your ankles and pull a train with out any grease!!!:shakes:
cable is going down for 2 to 4 hours they are working on the lines again so no points for me i got one wifi and im going to try and get things going on that board.
hope to be up and running soon. just when i start getting points baaaah.
Another hardware casualty!
Horrible grinding roar started coming from my closet. Another cooling fan just kicked the bucket, and of course it is the one in the bottom of the stack!
Well I started folding for the team with my 4830, and I have a question. I tried searching it first, but I have an extra 8600GT. Is there a way to have both folding. I am confused and the MultiGPU guides i read didn't mention anything about different cards, so if you guys could help me out that would be great. Thanks!
Yeah, something about the Vista driver model doesn't allow or like two brands of cards in the same PC.
Dat goose is a sneak! The day after the contest he encouraged me to ramp down so I quit eating a slice of his pie. :ROTF: Meanwhile he still has the hammer down. Don't worry Dak. I have to pay bills soon so I'll be down to 2 rigs. :( Maybe we should negotiate a cold war type truce where we each eliminate 1 rocket/missile/ warhead at a time. :yepp:
BTW... hit 12 million yesterday so you are plenty safe with a 4 million point lead. ;)
I agree. You two should do that.:yepp:
WFO> Congrats on huge milestone of 12+M...Da Goose no sneak, da Goose blatently go forward... Cold war huh? 1 ACME Jato at a time? I don't think so, maybe when I have 5+M head start:rofl: Keep in mind that you didn't observe any speed limit signs during da race...I need 2+ weeks just to make up da difference. Da Goose is taking flight over your house...It's a BIG GOOSE too....:rofl::rofl:
ThunderDuck...Please don't take this wrong but...
BITE ME ....
I see you in the rearview mirror. You have consistently put up points, big ones too...You and Mike are trying to fly under the radar and stomp on me, Angra & WFO...
:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:
Thanks Dak! :)
Speed limits? There are none in a race. The race is over so you should be doing 25mph! ;) I'll send the highway patrol after you if necessary. :ROTF:
Oh man. The big geese are the messiest. I'll do my best to jam your laser targeting system!!! Hopefully you'll hit Angra's house instead.:rofl::rofl:
OK, I will throttle down some....AFTER YOU 1st...
The Cold War begins...
Assman on the tee...Da Goose winds up with the swing, luvs the sound of titanium hitting the ball, straight down the fairway, nudging out Assman's drive by 40 yds...Da Goose walks up to watch Assman as he approaches the next shot with a 3 wood, ge swings and woofs the ball. Da Goose farts a little and says "you should have use a 3 Iron". Assman gets pissed, the Goose craps on his golf ball and says " So sorry", you are now in my rear view mirror.
All of this talk of "ramping down" and "speed limits"...
TSK TSK TSK
This calls for a serious penalty! How un-Xtreme!
http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q...6972/girls.jpg
Oh what a sweet mega penalty. Very nice.
coo-coo-clocker> Pls slap a BIG penalty on MikeB12 for his output being far below his average....
Mike> Step it up already...
Agreed...
Sorry I've been gone for a bit had to spend 2 weeks out at NTC in cali, back to folding :)
Hey Goose, she's waiting for you in Arizona. Shut down your machines and get over there!!!:rofl::rofl:

Everyone better PRAY i dont join Xtreme Team, ive got (thats right) ONE (1.0) 9800gtx +, yes (PLUS) (aka +1) (aka better than your card) about to crank out so many PDD you all might as well quit at folding all together. Infact, ill be folding so fast im going to fold for XS BY MYSELF and you can all join some other team so its FAIR
Okay something is officially strange. I was always running 185.xx drivers because with 182.xx I've got black screens on boot. Now I gave the 182.50 a chance, this time I've left the dummy off. Installed the driver, rebooted. Switched SLI off and left PhysX enabled, rebooted. Booted with the dummy still off, and not only do I get to see my desktop with this config, no, I was even able to extend the desktop to the HDMI port (screen 3) without the dummy! Vista64 with no dummy, no switching around, just boot, extend and run the GPU clients....
Did I miss something here?
Edit: Rebooted now again, but this behaviour was not repeatable. I'm still running without dummy, but that's just because the dummy didn't work anymore. Plugged it in, tried to extend but it didn't stick. So I left the dummy off and tried disabling enabling PhysX and now I'm up and running again on both cores. Without dummy/monitor. Could it be that nV drivers are inconsistent crap?
I'd say that's a fair assessment. :yepp:
Woot! Blew past 16,000,000 tonight with a personal best daily total!!! 146,763 today. :) No hardware changes since the last race. I'm getting lucky on the WUs I guess. :p:

lolipop penalty on wfo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIP7W...eature=related

Please note, the Goose has been locked in the basement with one of the ladies he was penalized with.
Here is the result...

Don't tell his wife. She doesn't know. His points will be back up shortly. ;)
Strange bit of production today:

Slow down Dak! How am I supposed to get your lead to under 4 million if you keep folding over 100k ppd? :ROTF::ROTF::ROTF:
I am closer though!

I see ROADRUNNER is back!

Welcome back RR and anyone who's joined the team lately!:welcome:. Also congrats to WFO on his 17mil :shocked::clap:
I'm going to be down for a few days on my folding rig whilst I sort out a problem and reorganise....no more pie for a bit when that happens :( I put the old one back together for now meanwhile who wants to have a go at the problem??
I have two k9a2 platinum boards one 5050e processor so far. The first board although lit up won't give me any video signal. tried to clr cmos but did not help. Picked up another on ebay which booted fine started to load windows which needed format first, that was ok....started loading windows and bsod..... driver problem. Turned off to start again and now this one gives me no video signal to crt as well. Board lit up cards lit up in factall seems well apart from this. the cars work fine back in the old rig together with mem psu etc.
I will borrow a dvi screen tomorrow in case it is a frequency problem but other than that I'm stumped....... anyone got any ideas?
Check mosfets... some of the original k9a2 boards had bad mosfet issues.
What is to check?? what to look for?
Is it possoble to hold down certain keys during post to any effect ??
I am a believer in check the simple things first. Twice this week moving stuff around I forgot to plug the power lines in the cards. Next I would double check power supply.
Good luck
Okay, because I'm fed up with them I'll put up a little warning here:
If any of you are planning on buying more 295's for Folding, I strongly suggest to avoid buying an XFX brand card. Those guys are ignoring my RMA concerning CUDA computation errors on the second part of the card (as I wrote somewhere else already they happen with 59xx WUs and on GPUGrid) and they are convinced that if it runs Furmark and some games without problems they are free to do so. It looks as if I'm stuck with a borked card, fun fun. Don't buy XFX 295s.
when you rma stuff. just make up some reason like it worked yesterday and not today and you want a replacement. play dumb, dont show you have any intelligence and just say "It broke, me want a replacement".. if they ask you if you overclocked, say "what's an overclock? I have a watch on, it's a timex ironman from walmart, will that work?"... and eventually the csr will get tired of dealing with you and just replace it.. dont get into a technical conversation with them, seriously it'll just give them loopholes to find and use their scripted response book. just say, "it worked yesterday, and doesn't today. I want another one." and then just keep it to yes, no, and simple answers that lead to an rma#.
I swear it works everytime as long as it's under warranty. they dont want to deal with idiots, and it's easier to make you go away with a rma #, as long as you dont admit something stupid like you took it apart or overclocked it.
Well, it won't help at all, they say there's no error in their tests, and that they have been very thorough, yadda yadda. They're basically saying "F$ck joo, not our problem.".
Fun thing is that they and NVdia advertise with it's CUDA capabilities and they don't even test that.
that sucks... I've had a nasty taste in my mouth over msi and evga recently. they sent sold me gts250's, that are 65nm 9800gtx chips from mid 2008. I pulled the hsf's and checked after I saw the gpuz data that it was 65nm and July 2008 bios.
and I bought these because they were advertised as 55nm...
Yeah, those basturds do what ever they want and get away with it. I can't afford a lawyer so I don't really know what to do now. Ebay this piece of crap?
Send it to mee...... :D
Enough people have had issues with dual-GPU cards and folding that I usually don't recommend using them. Seems the 295s are more of a headache than the 9800GX2s were too. Single cards for me!
I rarely have issues with the single cards, that's why I run them :)
Points whores like me need to point out small victories when we can. The screenie below is for "points today." :ROTF:
http://img30.imageshack.us/img30/620...oreslikeme.png
I'd also like my point out my last 24hrs before 1 rig died today. :yepp: 168K may be a record for me.

Missed me cream lickers ? :cord:
Yeah... you gotta get to work yet?!! :p:
