Forward: official GIGA 965P-S3/DS3/DS4/DQ6 beta BIOS

For the 965P-S3 and F7 users

I have a good feeling about F7. At 480x7 using F6, I could run Orthos blend for 19+ hours no problem.
The issue, I was having was failing dual super Pi 32M, could not do it.

Today flashed with F7 (went back to defaults before flash). Booted checked things out. Reboot back to bios and reset to my 450x7 numbers. After saving settings had the shutdown, restart, shutdown, restart...beep,beep...deal. Shut it down. Startup back to bios. Changed vcore up notch from 1.325v and went up to 2.2v on mem, added +.1 to mch and fsb. A couple of more shutdown restart shutdowns and finally booted to xp. Ran dual Pi 32M passed. Once you get past that, things will start to look good.:D

Restarted and change bios back to my F6 numbers.
450x7 ~3150
1.325v bios
FSB v: normal
(G)MCH v: normal
Firestix FSX800D2C-K2G 2 4 4 4 12 2.2v
Booted to xp, completed dual Pi 32M

Moved on to
480x7 ~3360
vcore 1.425v bios
FSB v: +.1

44c-45c idle
58c-65c load (I really need to slap my maze I on this. This should be my 24/7 set-up)

As I said, I ran Orthos blend for 19+ hours no problem with these numbers but, it would fail running dual 32M.

Today with F7 completed dual super Pi 32M. Currently doing an overnight Orthos blend. I about a hour in to it.

i know, but i'm using vista x64. are u on 32 bit or 64? if you're on 64, what benchmark programs are u using? can't find any to run on 64 bit yet. was just using the vista test as a quick check for stability as it does stress the system somewhat

Alright, sitting here with an E6600 & a Gigabyte GA-965P-S3 mobo & 2 gig of Crucial DDR2 Tenth Anniversary PC5300 mem. :slobber:

The S3 F7 BIOS = DS3 F9 BIOS is by far the most stable for me at FSB 400 ( and higher ). Better than F8i, F8j & F8 final. Better than F1 to F7.
Finally I can use 9x400 4:5 at 4 4 3 9 with Turbo setting in BIOS, completely stable and without any post/boot issues.

Very well done Gigabyte, I :clap: You for very good BIOS support & for your efforts.

The good things;

* Vdimm +0.5V ( and possibly +0.6V too ) can now be selected at 1GHz mem speed without lockups/issues.
* CAS4 @ 1000MHz mem speed now works without lockups/issues.
* Turbo mode can be used at 9x400 4:5 ( impossible on earlier BIOS's ).
* 3+ restarts belongs to the history, unless I use some stupid impossible BIOS setting.

The bad thing;

*BIOS F8i, F8j, F8 final & F9 are slow in 3D benching compared to BIOS F7 & lower.

Don't believe me, have a look at this '01 compare at the same settings ( F7 left, F9 right ):

*and this goes through most ( if not all ) 3D benches on most ( if not all ) settings. Graphics card X1900XT.

But of course Gigabyte must relax something if gaining stability is priority #1, so I don't blame them for doing what needs to be done. :D

WinRAR & Super PI 32M etc etc are blistering fast and I'm seeing numbers that I haven't seen before.

I Agree with above Post the F9 (S3/F7) is the best yet.

Long Story short I could not go over 450FSB at all doing ANYTHING.

After flashing with F9 I am 100% stable at 460FSB and can actually Post @480FSB which was previously unheard of (maybe I can make stable,however I can get into Windows, just Orthos fails very fast).

All the F8's were crap compared to this.

These are my following stats.

CPU E6300@3.22 gig
FSB 460
Vcore 1.3V (undervolting)
Corsair 667 @ 920 (effective) +.4 (2.2V) *** this was important for me
G)MCH v: +2 *** this was important for me



**No cold boot issue seen yet

A final note, the F9 bios behaves better I noticed. Less farting around when you get a failed overclock.

I do not believe 3D benchmarks are slower for me, in 3D mark 2006 my CPU score stayed the same as the F6 for the F7 on my S3. Once overclocked from 3gig to 3.2 gig the CPU score went up 200 "ish". Also Sandra (piece of crap that it is) showed no difference in performance F6-F7 S3.

They are the E6850, E6750 and E6650 and should be seen in early Q3, around the same time as the new 'real' 1333 FSB P35, G33, G33, and G35 chipsets.

Indeed, the F9 absolutely rocks unless You're a serious 3D bencher and want/need the best clock-for-clock 3D score out of your system.

Orthos is now passing the 1½ hours mark at settings that were impossible to even post with before.

Next I'll try the lower multi's to see where my mobo craps out, at what FSB.
I'm not dependent on high FSB like You are, but it's still fun to play around with different BIOS configurations.

So handle, Battleneter and OnLine loves this latest BIOS, who are the haters?! :(

DS4 f7 BIOS is out.

Currently Seems to be stable at 480x7 where before couldn't even do 435. There is Hope AGAIN :)

ram at 1:1 960 +.4
Have FSB +.1
and have PCIE lock at 104. where before i had to leave it at auto for stability now it doesn't seem to work. putting it at 100 didn't work. 104 got me to boot and seems to be stable.

UPDATE

The above was stable for 5 min so i decided to move to 490x7
Booted up !! Feeling was just amazing as i have never NOT once posted that high. Running orthos at the moment as im typing this.

ANOTHER UPDATE

Seems to be stable at 490x7. Ran for 10 min then i tried 500x7. BOOTED UP!!! WENT INTO windows did some benchmarks. but Ortho would crash within 1 min. Went back to 490, will see if i can get that stable enough and if its stable will try to move up but i would really be happy with 490 :)

I now stable at 3.3gig (impossible with F8**)

As I posted above I found no difference in 3D mark 2006, be interesting to see if others see a performance drop or gain.

I'm not talking CPU score(s), actually that one will stay roughly the same for me too. I'm talking about the graphics tests. The fps in '01 system tests are 2-5% lower.
AquaMark and '03 shows lower scores too.

It's not within the margin of error, it's beyond that point. :slapass:

F1 to F7 are faster clock for clock than F8/F9 in 3D graphics tests. At least for me.

Edit: Oh well, maybe someone else here can confirm my findings that '01 is 2-3 % slower clock for clock on later BIOS's.
Maybe it's a pure 4MB chip thing. :(

My 3D scores on 2006 and final scores were also the same.

I am suspicions you have a bit of an anomaly on your rig at this point, see what others say.

I haven't had time to stress-test any better overclocks, but bad overclock recovery is now much, much better for me. No more reboot cycle, just a pause and then it boots with default fsb and multiplier.

count me as a hater! still having cold boot issue. even my tried and true 400x8 won't hold 100% of time. can't even cold boot once at 450x8, just starts the looping and pooping. went back to f7 bios. can't go much over 400fsb, but at least it holds the freaking settings. i did notice that i'm using 1.55 vcore which is higher than some other guys not having the issue, all other volt settings seem the same. but at 400 fsb i was at 1.3+ and still got cold boot issue sometimes. hmmmmm....

Ive just tried the F7 BIOS on my DS4 and no matter what setting I choose, I just get short beeps in sucession :confused:

My first batch of Ballistix died (which did 490 with F3), so i've gone back to the F3 with my new lot of Ballistix which im just testing at 450. Incidently when I was on the F6 with new ram it happily passed tests for a few hours @ 460...

Any DS4 users having problems with F7?

dq6 still having cold boot isssues with F8 for >400 fsb here. it remember its settings more often, but still unable to boot properly with it sometime :slapass:

F9 is the best for me so far. No cold boots and better OC.:D

Glad I didn't give up on this board. I am done paying big $$$ for a mb that is about the same OC but a few more bells and whistles.;)

New mb's are not much better then the first boards that came out, just more money.:(

Beyond FSB 400 the 2.50 multi doesn't work anymore for me. No post.
That's cool, I don't need it to work because my E6600 A chip starts to crap out after 9x400 in Orthos.
