It has three x16 LENGTH slots. The bottom slot is always x4 because it is run through the southbridge. The other two are x16/x1 in non-Crossfire mode, or x8/x8 in Crossfire.

Hi guys,
Hey I just picked up this board and have a quick question. I have a really good Q6600 that clocks well and wondering what BIOS I should grab. I'll be using my Ballistix Tracer's pc8500.
Thanks in advance!
truehighroller, did you do a fresh Vista install with your Raid? If you did, did you add the ICHR10 driver during the install? I have played with 4 different Core2 cpu's with the board, all using Vista and Raid, and have not had a problem at all with any bios. I have followed all the problems you have had and it just baffles me as I have had none.
Does this board have digital PWN? How well does it do with Qx9650,Q9650,Q9550?
And i just found this, is it true?

Pros: This review comes from the heart. I really wanted to love this board. Several great features, looks beautiful, plathora of overclocking abilities, potential to please, love the passive cooling system, well-packaged with cables.
Cons: Anyone planning to purchase this mobo with a Yorkfield processor Q9xxx or above should seriously consider purchasing another non-ASUS motherboard. The main issue is the BIOS support. The default BIOS version (v1103) cause BSOD and will never pass Prime95. I had to DOWNGRADE to v0803 in order to not crash. Unfortunately, 0803 is not compatible with my GSKILL RAM that I purchased. So now I am using an older pair of 1GB DDR2 800 that I have. Just take a look at the ASUS forums for this mobo at all of the problems and lack of support. BEWARE!
Other Thoughts: I purchased an ASUS A7V266 way back in the day and had problems with that... I should have taken that as a hint never to buy ASUS again but was overwhelmed by the features by this board. Now, I know better - NEVER AGAIN. I hope that everyone with a Yorkfield gets this message and looks at another mobo for their $200.00.
i turned off the '6 engine' using msconfig rather than uninstalling (although it will have the same effect) and i turned off LLC and now my computer shuts off normally.
looking at cpuz it seems the cpu is throttling between 6x multiplier and 9x with the cpu fsb etc.. set manually in the bios
i am finding the auto voltage options although stablish, too low.
does anyone know how to stop the throttling please?
cheers
Well, let's see. I have used this board with Gskill ram with 3 different Yorkies, 8400, 8600, and now a QX9650. I have used just about every bios since 0803 and I have never had a problem. Like said above, sometimes you just can't believe everything you read.
Heh.
I used two separate HDDs (non-RAID) on the orange Marvell posts just fine till about a month ago.
Then one of the ports suddenly stopped working.
I tried everything imagineable, a ton of different bioses, & i cannot get the second Marvell port to work anymore (the device on it won't even be seen in bios).
Did yours "just work"?
Hmm seems you just notice same problem that i had before... In the beginning when i buy this mobo i installed a driver on my old Windows installation, even if 2nd HDD are not seen in BIOS, or anywere else, hoping for driver to bring the HDD and it works... It was logical hope regarding this circumstances... Then it stop works like yiu said but i think i do something that forced this to happen and when i do fresh installation or WinXP x64 and installed driver again it works... I dont know for how long
Yes sir. I think it has something to do with the Q9450, don't ask me what because I don't know but, at first I thought maybe it was the CPU Margin Enhancement thing but, I don't know for sure any more. I know this, they recreated the issue within a couple of minutes so, maybe it is the fact that I have three drives in raid 0, or the fact that I have three Western Digital drives in raid 0 or the fact that I have the 9450 with three Western Digital drives in raid0. I will post what it was though when they tell me. They expect a solution by Monday they said so.. Thank you for paying attention though. I felt like no one cared besides ket and a few other people that posted a response.

My Response:
As far as all that goes, Ket's modified BIOS 0803 fixes any memory issues .. I never really had any issues and I have G-Skill memory but, with his modded BIOS "Ket's" I have way lower latency now and I can actually push my memory to 1200Mhz now as well which I was not able to do before so, as far as the Q9... part goes he is kind of right there maybe. As far as my issue goes know what I mean but, I think I brought this to there attention now so that will go away what ever it is hopefully within the next week but, with 0803 I have had nothing but, good luck look at my sig, 3.85Ghz on air when my GA-EX38-DQ6 would only let me get 3.6Ghz with the same Q9450 so , I think this board is good for them IMO besides this little issue I have run into whatever it is.
on my x48 board it was a setting in the bios.

I believe it was the C1E feature but I disabled all these and it went away so I'm not certain. Not familair with the asus bios but it should be something similar.
If you put your CPU under a load it stays at the highest multiplier right?
As tempting as it is to pickup the asus board and re-install and configure everything for the 3rd time in a month, I'm tempted to just grab an E0 stepping CPU and see how It does, if it fails I'd still end up with the P5Q delux and have a faster CPU as well... I might try the TRFC thing, but this memory is rated for 500 FSB it should not break a sweat at 425FSB?
@ Justintoxicated; What PL are you running on the board? Reason I ask is that I ran that board for about 3 months with the ram in my signature and an E3110, I never could get the PL lower than a solid 8, or 9 with all pullins enabled.
That was only running at 480fsb too.

I replaced my IP35 Pro (a damn good board, sold it to a friend) with the P5Q-D a few weeks ago. Worked very well out of the box with the 0605 bios. Flashed it to Ket's 1402M bios, the usb key flash went as smooth as silk, and the board is running great. I don't know about the newer Quads, but it's fine with any Wolfies. Maybe his board was a dud, it does happen. Any product can have issues, but the P5Q-D is a solid board.
So if i want to use a Q9650 on this board i have to change the bios that comes with it? What if i don't have some other CPU to turn this motherboard on, what am i supposed to do?
Temporary insanity, eh?:D
Well, good that it's being looked into and they see your problem. I have avoided quad-cores so far, nothing against them, but for my needs a dual is sufficient and less hassles tweaking them. My 8400 is nothing special for overclocking, I bought an 8500 which was virtually identical with it's overclocking ability and the volts required. Now I'm considering an EO stepping, looking for a better overclock with less juice.
Then again, maybe I should have bought a Quad:p:
I love my Quad and Temporary yes no biggy :p: .
Well, ya got me thinking about getting one. Since I'm going to get another cpu to replace my old 8400 (sold the 8500), I may just consider stepping over to the Quad side, rather then messing with the EO stepping Duals. At $600, a 9650 is way out of my price range, but I can get a 9450 for $320 or a 9550 for $355. Not decided yet though.
Start with BIOS 0803, then upgrade. People have reported issues with quads using later bios versions than 0803 so just try and see.
Yes the P5Q-Deluxe is better at higher FSB too, takes way less vNB to hit decent speeds on both duals and quads. I'd definitely prefer my Deluxe to an -E
