Installing Win XP now as part of a dual boot, Win 32/Win 7 64 dual boot, with a GTX 285 arriving tomorrow (will buy a second one for SLI later) Win 7 goes onto my SSD before even XP video drivers are installed.

But ...

I've been worried about all these horror storys of I7 boards only seeing 2GB of 6GB.

Hope mine see's all 6GB.

Hmmm, my USB keyboard works fine with the F7 BIOS, it is only the F8f BIOS that I had problems with my keyboard..

Also, I wouldn't worry to much about the RAM problem, you should be fine I would have thought..

I still haven't got around to testing my new processor yet, so I don't know if the 4GB issue will be sorted or not, but someone sent me a PM on here yesterday, and they were experiencing the exact same issue as me, and they also have the UD5, and he replaced his mobo, CPU, RAM and PSU, and it would still only see 4GB, anyway, it turns out that it was his HSF that was causing the problem.. it was fitted to tight, so he refitted the cooler making sure not to screw it down as tight, and it cleared the problem up!!!

I was actually starting to think it could have been something to do with my HSF tht was causing the problem, but I never wanted to say anything because it sounds kinda stupid, I mean, you wouldn't think that a HSF could cause a problem like this...

I should be putting my rig together again tonight, I will post back on here how I get on with the new CPU...

I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with batch 3910A*** processors, are they good clockers??

Can't seem to find anything on here regarding these chips..

OK my USB G19 keyboard .. boots the beast, G5 mouse is working too.

ITs odd.....not just the UD5 that has this missing memory problem, its all over the net about random missing memory across different board and m'fers. Perhaps this HSF idea has merit!?

That's me up and running, and all 6GB is being detected!!! :D

I am sooooo happy now.. I am going to put my mobo tray back into my case and then let the fun and games begin!!! :D :D

I just hope this replacement chip isn't a dog like my previous one..

@Johnny, yeah I have seen several people complaining about the same problem, and it isn't just the UD5.. I seen people with RIIE, P6T, EVGA X58 Vanilla who all have experienced this problem..

There are several things that I have read that can cause this RAM problem, bent socket pins, CPU not seated properly, incorrect distance between QPI and VDimm voltages, having RAM timings set to aggresively, and the HSF issue as well..

Now tbh, I don't know whether it was my HSF, or if it was my previous processor that was causing the issue for me, as I have switched over to my TRUE this time, as well as changing CPU.. I guess I really should have tested the processor with my Zalman installed, but I have been wanting to test my TRUE ever since I got the Bolt Thru Kit..

Anyway, at least the problem is solved for me.. I can now enjoy my rig!!! :D

@M31, I to will be doing some Win7 testing real soon as well, I have just setup my 2 34GB Raptors in RAID0 so that I can use them as my OS drive, I have never tried a RAID setup before so it is all new to me.. I have my copy of Win7 x64 sitting here, I just want to do some stress testing with my system under my Vista Ultimate x64 install first before I try Win7...

regarding pcie improved...maybe. I always froze at or above 103.3 on earlier bioses, now I freeze at 104.0 (using set fsb), 103.7 is stable 103.9 is kinda. My bclk made it to 230.7 before freezing, maybe 231 with tinkering just did quick test need to head back to work, whereas before 229 froze, so if it is an improvement and not just variability, it is a baby step improvement on mine. Though I did not try tinkering with volts much...

its not a very useful Bclk without some stress testing either CPUz doesnt mean the PC is stable?

How you finding the TRUE in terms of temp performance?

i have no usb probs with f8 final but i am not using a g15, using a g5 mouse tho.

Tbh mate, this TRUE isn't as good as I had thought it was going to be.. infact it is actually performing worse than my old Zalman!!

Even at stock frequency my processors idle temps are 44c, whereas with the Zalman they were only 36c, and when I have tried for 4GHz the idle temps are 52c and under load the hottest core reaches 92c!!!

Also this chip is an absolute dog, it refuses to run at 4GHz stable, I even tried 3.8 and 3.6GHz and it is a no go.. tried underclocking the RAM using 6x multi instead of 8x and still nothing..

I am really pissed off to be honest.. I am talking with the tech guy who shipped out this replacement chip to see if he can just send me the old one back, because I think that it is the Zalman bracket that was causing the problems and not the processor..

And another thing that is bugging me now, is the fact that when I opened the box for this replacement chip, I had a look at the contact points, and the chip had already been used on a mobo, as the contact points all had pin marks on them from the CPU socket on a mobo..

My last OEM chip never had these marks when I first got it.. I told the tech guy and he said that it was a brand new chip never been used, and that he only broke the seal on the box so that the people who deal with packaging would have thought it was an RMA being returned and not a new chip going out, but I think this is a bunch of nonsence tbh..

He told me that there are very few of their current batch of 920's that will do 4GHz, so what I think they have done here is given me one of the processors that didn't make the grade for their 4GHz o/ced bundles that they have on sale atm...

I have said this to him, and I am awaiting his reply to see what he says about it..

Regardless, I am absolutely pissed off, my last chip used to be able to boot into Windows at 4.4GHz without an issue, but this pig of a chip struggles to boot @ 20 x 200... and as I said, it just wont run stable with 21 x 191..

I am just away to test it @ 20 x 160, but even if it does run stable at that frequency, I still won't be happy, I built an i7 rig because I had seen all you guys on these forums running them happily at 4GHz+ without any issues.. and I actually had my last chip sitting at 4GHz fully stable with Prime Blend Test and LinX using all available RAM, it was just the RAM issue that was giving me headaches with that chip, but like I said, I personally don't even think that it was the chip that caused this issue before anymore..

Extremely annoyed.. and also angry at the fact that the tech guy from OcUK is blatantly lying to me about this processor being new.. he must think I am a complete fool if he thinks that I believe him about the processor being "brand new"... new processors don't have pin marks on their contact points...

This chip is defo one of the processors that didn't make the grade for the 4GHz bundles... I mean, why else would they give me a full retail chip as a replacement for my old OEM chip that didn't even show any faults when they tested it?!?!?!?

I thought it was to good to be true... :mad::mad::mad:

As for these temps with my TRUE, do you think that it could be the processor that just runs hotter than my last one??

I have tried reseating it twice, the first time I removed it, it didn't look as though there was enough TIM, so I applied more, but it never made a blind bit of a difference... :(

Blunt: Try turning the TRUE 90 degrees so that it blows "up", it gave me way better temps than the normal left/right.

Sorry to hear that mate, but i find this quite normal for most of 39**** batches. It took me weeks to figure out how to get stable 4GHz (it needs 1.3V), it also run quite hot compared to what i'v seen around the forums, but again those guys usually have 38**** batch. I was also very annoyed, i thought its gonna be matter of 2time visiting BIOS and dang, stable 4GHz, but reality is much more harsh. :down: I even thought i am gonna get this chip replaced, but now i really doubt i could get much better one, since they dont have old 38 batch anymore.

BTW. I'v got Noctua HS and my load temps are 80C.

@ Blunt - Gutted mate......but something is defo amiss with that TRUE. I get 39'c (hottest core) at idle and 65'c loaded with Linx 20 pass - 1.15v for 3.8ghz HT on Turbo OFF!!

What fans you got on it?

That chip defo seems to be a pig mate.....might be worth doing a swap back, or just demand a chip from their 4ghz range as a like-4-like swap (as your old one did it)....worth a shot!!

Lap your True, lap your chip, use Arctic Cooling MX-2 or MX-3. That should help a lot. Assuming you haven't done this already.

Sorry to hear of your problems, mate ... to be honest, I dont trust OcUK, only reason I used them this time was because I couldent get all the parts I wanted from Scan in one order, so with fingers crossed (lots of bad experience with them before) I ordered my parts from OcUK and so far its seems like I've been lucky this time, my I7 is working stable at 4GHz, all my ram is recognised ... phew.

I'd demand they take back that CPU, you are entitled to send it back under the distant selling act at the very least.

I'm pretty sure your CPU will have been tried in one of their overclocked bundles and was one of the few I7's that never made a good overclock, pretty Rotten of them to pass it on to you though :down: I read on their forums that they use the CPU's that dont overclock too well on stock speed systems ... obviously not!

As regards the True cooler, they are famous for not being flat, the one on my E8400 was far from flat so I lapped it, it runs a lot cooler after that.

I use OCZ Freeze and might lap my TRUE but I have a £200 CPU that I aint gonna lap.....just have to deal with what I get for now :D

I just hooked up a 1200rpm fan on my Sys fan 2 header.
And for some reason its only spinning at 600rpm.
Im running UD5 F8 final bios and any of its fan control features are disabled.
Anyone knows what causing this ?

I 'think' the sys fans run at 5v speed rather than the full 12v cos I had a similar problem. I used another header a voila.....full speed :S

True loves lapping, this might be the reason of your temps being off. It's almost necessary in some cases.

Didnt think they were so bad......Coretemp currently reporting 32-37 on the cores (coldest core to hottest core) so load will be around 60-64'c on the cores.......thought that was ok??
