Must be lost in translation as I do not understand what point you are trying to make. Are you saying that he/we shouldn't expect higher clocks? Or that it takes a lot to get to 4600 and beyond?

This is not meant as an attack, just looking for clarification.

He always posts sentences like: "it's no problem to reach high fsb, with this and that settings" " you just need a modded psu with > 1000W" etc.

It just sounds like every cpu will go up to > 540MHz FSB, or > 4600MHz with the things i wrote above. But i don't think it will be like that. :)

Now people maybe will buy 5 new motherboards, 5 new psus, maybe new memory and imho at the end they will just realise that the cpu isn't better then before.

Just what i think. :)

PS.: But maybe you do not understand what i mean bcs. of my bad english? Sorry, i try to do my best. :)

I've been following this thread for awhile now, and from what i can see NapalmV5 is right on the money, he is making perfect sence in my head, we are raising the voltages on every bit of out boards/cpus except the 12, 5 and 3.3 volt supplys to it, from what i understand by doing this it is keeping volts not only stable but above what they need to be...just like what we have to do to overclock our cpu's...but there comes a point in overclocking where it is necessary to overclock/over volt other things besides vtt and nb..hence over the years how we have seen so many more options for voltage control, doing the psu thing is just the next step....i say well done NapalmV5, your thinking outside of the box, and thats why you have, and will do better...

Just keep in mind that generally Napalm is pretty modest in his posts, so he may still be in denial that he's got a golden chip...but yeah, like I posted before, you cannot adjust just one voltage...if you are, the others are too high in the first place!

First psu i modded with adjustable rails was in early '04, it is nothing really new. And there was a reason these days, the vdimm limtied by the +3.3V rail.

After that i bought the OCZ Powerstream wich had adjustable rails at the back of the psu.

Maybe someone else(more known, respected guy?)will explain how the difference is between the voltages you can set in bios especially to your different components and the voltages a psu give to the system.

Ajusting RAILS to achieve better OC is as old as Lincoln but kudos for Napalm to use this with today's OC's as well. I did have a OCZ 520 with adjustable rails and to OC a good old DFi Nf2 'sista' it would require a lot of tweaking in 3.3v and 12v rail.

Nope, this I get and as I stated before, I wasn't attacking you, just didn't understand what you were trying to state, so I apologize if I offended you, that was not my intention.

I have a single rail psu. Before I make any adjustments to it though I want to see how high I can go with the vdroop control enabled on this mobo. I will start working on the oc again in the morning. I was wondering what kind of NB voltages people are needing to get this board stable beyond 450fsb.

Not to mention he went through 4 boards (Foxconn Mars, Black Ops, and a P35 board) before he realized his sweet spot. Lesson, it's not all about the PSU, or CPU. It's a combination of everything. All the PSU has to do is be reliable; supplying a sustained current to the board. I got a PCP & C Turbo-Cool 860, and saw no difference between that and the Antec EW 500 I was using before. Not to belabor the point.

Edit: Plus that 1.90v+ Vtt. I bet that's not for you folks who are here to find 24/7 stable clocks.

well I'm down to 4.050 with only 1.3v vCore 100% prime stable 8hrs ^^ I was having heat issues as my d-tek fuzion v1 is beginning to fail me :( so i decided to move down in clocks and much in voltage

the vtt really does the trick with this chip. I took mine up to 1.4, not because I needed to but I just felt like it :)

well sniipe.. my q9650 not one iota better than yours :up:

most of the B q9650s on the right hardware/cooling should do ~4.5ghz :)

even the worst q9650 out there with some loving voltage/cooling budge should do ~4.5ghz :D

You just wait and see what happens when I get my proc lapped and the apogee GTZ + 2xMCR320's on there!

one problem is that my board has issues over 460 FSB. Once the p45 avenger comes out it will be on overnight shipping to me and then we will really see this proc burn some rubber :yepp:

Hello everyone.

I joined this site over a week ago after Finally getting my Q9650.. I've been coming here for awhile, but never joined. I finally did and I'm exited to start posting on a new, and great forum. I've been sent here by many many people as this is one of the best places for us Enthusiasts. Finally past the waiting period. :)

After seeing this thread it made me abandon my plan on getting the Q9550. I just went for the Q9650, no more waiting. I wanted a E0. I'm now very happy to say that 4.0 Ghz was very very easy to do with this thing. I've pushed for 4.2 Ghz on my eVGA 750i. and thats farthest so far. Will try farther later. I've been following all yours posts Napalm, looks like you sure know what your doing. I'm new to this (4 months Oc'n.) and I've heard of modding PSU's a few years back.. I'd love to get some info from you in helping me do that.
