No capacitor/choke squealing, that is a very good sign :)
My 3870 does that under load, pretty damn annoying. even moreso that its vmodded

No benefits for me in crysis with hotfix as well.
Is anyone getting flickering on the second DVI port when overclocking? When using even the smallest 5mhz overclock in CCC, I get slight image tearing and flickering on the second DVI port. This is on vista 64 with the hotfix drivers, and one visiontek 4850. At stock there are no issues at all.
Sweet cards Jimmyz, I'm glad that ATI has turned things around in the GPU market, and I'm also glad that we have a new Etailer (FX) who don't price jack stuff.

I'm going to ask here cause there isn't anywhere else I would find the info. Well, short of looking up the chips themselves and finding out manufacturer specs...
Anyway, what are the dimensions of the of GDDR chips on this board? They don't look like the standard 14x14mm bga chips.
I'd like to know so that I can get appropriately sized sinks for them.
Thanks for any info on that!
Great review! Happy to see people gleefully ripping off the stock heatsink and poking around under the hood of this superb offering from ATI.
So what waterblocks are being used? I saw the DD Maze mentioned, trying to decide if I can't wait for something else to go with either some low profile maze 5s, or see about the Fuzion GFX 2, if/when it comes out, though the mazes are cheaper. That's about the only drawback I'm concerned about with getting a pair of 4850s, is having that heat sitting in my case if I don't watercool them, at least my 8800GTX shoots the hot air out the back.
Did you replace the thermal tape on the memory as well or just on the gpu? Did just the gpu on my visiontek's and idle temp is still 81.
I've made comparison between these two
4850 power is absolutely twice the power of 8800GTS 320MB in devil may cry 4 benchmark and also lost planet extreme edition game
In lost planet all high AA 8x I got about 30fps stable 1440x900 while 8800GTS is about 11 fps all high no AA
I know it's more powerfull. I've read the official benchmarks. I will go for 4870.
I picked up a zalman vf1000 today and temps are so much better now. I was loading at 80c im now loading at 45C and i overclocked it to 700mhz.
only by bios mod at this time , it is risky if you aren't familiar with the process.

keep in mind you can't really add voltage so it needs to be hardmodded for that. the mod thread is listed in the first post.
With the Powerplay being defective and hopefully being fixed in Catalyst 8.7, is there anyone who can confirm for now that the 4850 will use only 10w in idle? I tried some fishing but that failed unfortunately.
Pretty important issue considering that my videocard will eat out of its nose in 95% of the time.
