Looks like third time was the charm. Instead of scratching lines I went in circles and really filled in the top of that chip. Also had to be careful to clean off the lead dust that collected around it. Prob just being paranoid but I was afraid it would settle somewhere and short something out. BTW, my pencil didn't have a number but pretty sure it was not a #2. Its a construction pencil for writing on 2x4 wood and stuff, its thick and pretty hard but guess it worked well in the end :)
* At 1.4875 and above CPUZ just pooped out and obviously didn't work anymore. I know its not right b/c my overclocks were stable.
BTW, here are my overclocks with an E4300 (L2):
1.475V 360*9 = 3240
1.5V 365*9 = 3285
1.55V 370*9 = 3330
Not great I know but its not the board. I only got 9*333 with my DS3 board so its just not a better chip. Overall I'm happy with the OC as I think 85% for free is still pretty good ;-)
I know it has been discussed a few times (and shows my noobness), but when you see the list of Qualified Vendors for RAM on this board, do I really need to follow this??
I want to get 4GB, but according to this list, there is not many ways to do it...I need mismatched RAM to do the 4GB? Or two matched pairs? or the 4GB set all matched??
From what I have been reading, this is a great board for my next purchase this month...but I want to ensure I get the right RAM straight up...and really, I am not too worried about the cost of it either...present to myself :)
So, after all that above, what I am really asking for is a suggestion based on your current findings of 4GB of RAM for this P5K :D
I don't think the RAM list really matters. Probably just there to save their asses in writing if something goes wrong ;)
I'm running 2 x 1 GB sticks of GSkill ZX (DDR2-533) and 2 x 1 GB sticks of Kingston ValueRAM (DDR2-667). Just be sure to increase NB voltage if going to 4 sticks makes your system unstable.

I finally found a program that gives you accurate cpu voltages to 3 decimal places.
CPUz craps out at 1.40 to 1.45 volts so I've been using SpeedFan which gives you 2 decimal places but Lavalys Everest gives you 3.

Hmm, i downloaded the latest Bios now, and renamed it to P5KBASIC.ROM. Do u think it will work this way? If not i must install my old 331..

Flashed the 0414 now, using AsusUpdate. Until now i had no problems anymore.. I hope it will work now and in the future! If not, i must RMA the board. ;)
Edit: OMG, again Bad Bios Checksum... xD
I have not idea if 414 is an official release, but if not, that can cause bad check sums; also, i've had bad check sums before on Asus and had the bios still work fine.Quote:
