max fsb stable?
My appologies if this shouldnt be on this thread but I have the UT-X48-T2R and am using 2x2gb gskill 8500 1066 ram. I wondered if anyone could tell me how accurate the memory voltage reading in smart guardian is?
This memory is designed to run at 2.0-2.1v now if I set it to 2.0 in the bios SG reports 1.91 and if I set it to 2.1v it comes in at 2.03v. It would appear to be quite unstable at 2.0v set in the bios but it may just be that I need to work on the timings more.
[edit] bios reports 2.06v when set to 2.1v and it appears to be more stable, still getting complete lockup's in memtest so i'll have to try tweaking some more. maybee I need to up the NB volts.

I'm getting close to just giving up with this board; no matter what the damn setting it doesn't even like running stock settings. One thing that doesnt make this board easier to use is the fact that it seems little is known about gtls, or how to adjust them effectively without spending your life and soul sitting in a basement trying random settings (Sorry, but this board just pisses me off so far). I'm starting to wonder if my board is just a POS.
The P45 chipset still needs tuning from all board manufacturers. But it looks like the X48 will still be able to hold its own. Top screenshot is from Anandtech on the ASUS P5Q Deluxe. Bottom screenshot is done on the DFI UT X48. Both using OCZ Flex II 2x2GB 1150MHz memory. Impressive when the difference in speeds is taken into account.

I posted a thread on the DK X48 but oh well...it dissapeared.
Does anyone have a DFI DK X48 and has anything good to say about it? or why one should consider the X48 instead of X38 or even P35 ?
am just looking for some info...
thanks
nothing to compare there from my point of view
from different OS optimisations to different system timings
and P45 is "worse" than X48, so X48 has to be faster!
Both screenshots were done with Vista 64Bit. I really doubt that Anandtech is using an optimized operating system. Mine is a stock install as well. The article stated the configuration was stable as is mine. And the timings are naturally going to be different as the chipsets are different. Regardless, both screenshot contains nice results for 2x2GB modules.
which is better, higher or lower numbers?
http://img329.imageshack.us/img329/7...ambenchqf3.png
latency lower
all others higher
does anybody know how to change the tref without having to use memset? or does anybody know the tref per strap? i can only "match" the bandwidth i had on a maximus formula, but cant get to the level that i had on rampage... most likely due to the fact that i cant get pl6 or cas4 + pl5 on this mobo.
A multimeter is useful, as I have found smartguardian is bad at telling voltages. Bios VTT = 1.415 actual = 1.438 with Q6600. Anyone get these results or similar, or am I just reading it wrong?
praz how come the l2 cache latency is so high?
I haven't tried this MB yet (right now, it's at the top of my list;)), but all MBs are notorious for being a little off on the voltage readings (and settings). You really need a multimeter for an accurate reading and setting -- especially if you're planning to push to the very edge.
been playing with the asus p5k deluxe ddr2 version
after 2 days.. into the bin u go.. :P
and back to dfi LP x48.. come home to mama :P
the asus board bios 0405 is freaking flawed..
will wait for more bios update for it
also it has corruption issue with the bios..
one wrong ram timings.. it will revert to the duallie bios to the stock mobo bios which is even worse..

OK I just updated the UT version bios to my LT board, everything seems to be working just fine. The CPU special VID has been disabled when vcore is set under 1.3000v. The Vcore turns red when going past 1.4500v :) Other than that, no other visible changes (apart from a new POST screen).
I'm still struggling to get my comp prime95 stable with 8 gigs 9x400MHz. I can do 5-8h prime95 blend but after that a BSOD. :(
I got my Flex II yesterday and so far they are working great with LT X38 and current BIOS (03/14). I'm very happy with it.
DDR2-1168 was the max stable clock I could achieve:
http://www.abload.de/thumb/438x8_584czs.jpg
Although the screen shows tRD 8 it's 7, only one phase is running at 8.
My CPU does not like FSB higher than 460, so I'm a bit limited on dividers.

FSB266 and 266/1066 divider or FSB333 and 333/1066 divider did not cause any issues to me. DDR2-1200 was no go with current BIOS, I could get it nearly stable at DDR2-1192. Do you have any news on the new BIOS files with PSC IC optimizations?
I'm seeing lots of numbers here, but has anyone formed any opinions yet on whether this board is better than the competition (say Gigabyte or Asus)? Or whether it's a good choice for a fast reliable overclock?
Thanks.
Any word on next bios release, or is there a good site for beta releases?
Thanks
just joined the group.... cant wait to get it.. now i have a basically brand new x38 dfi going up for sale lol just couldnt resist trying this out..
I think I'll be buying this board as soon as I save up the $$. Goodbye EVGA 680i, hello DFI..:)
I might even take the time to fabricate some custom blocks for this one...:D
you guys should be lookin hard @ the dfi ut p35 cause its way better lol
only thing i see better on x38-48 is runing 4 sticks n crossfire
unless they come with a nice bios to give same performance as the dfi p35 lol
i went back to the x38 just to keep my p35 nice n fresh lol

I don't see any difference in performance setting these options to "Fast". Most important seems setting "T2 Dispatch" to "Enabled" whenever possible. When it comes to 24/7 stability I noticed that setting these options to "Normal" improved stability a lot, at least with my old G.Skill HZ, and it did not cost performance. With BIOS versions prior than 1/11 I saw some improvements but now I don't.

Don't know what the problem is there. There should be several hundred MB/s difference in Read and a difference in Latency depending on how the Enhanced settings are configured.
With BIOS versions prior 1/11 I saw differences in bandwith and latency, with 1/11 and 3/14 it does not seem to matter anymore. I don't know, either. :)
The only board I have set up at the moment is the UT x48. I'll check what it does. Might be able to point DFI to these posts and find out what's going on.
That's nice, thanks.
I went ahead and made my order for this board a few minutes ago..
This review was convincing enough for me..

after spending a week figuring out this mobo, and tweaking it out. ive come to 2 conclusion. #1 latency on dfi is approx 2ns slower than my asus, and read bandwidth is about 100/mb less however ive been able to run @ the same speed before w/ lower overall volts and my read + write are about 200mb faster. perhaps i have more tweaking to do but im at a kind of a stand still atm. dont know where else i can get a bit more performance from other than more fsb or cpu freq.
i wil post up my full settings w/ bandwidth screen shots @ around 3pst. thanks in advance for any suggestions. :)
I've noticed this as well. I have nothing left to tweak as far as memory goes and I'm a little slower on the bandwidth and latency. I experienced the same thing with the DFI 680i when comparing it to my P5K-D and EVGA 680i. I can also confirm that this board runs at much lower volts than my Formula Rampage conversion but wasn't that the point of the x48 chipset, the higher binned north bridge?
I think my memory's holding me back at the moment. I couldn't run my 4x1GB Mushkin's on this board so now I am using 2x2GB OCZ Flex II's. For some reason I am having issues running the 400 strap @ 400MHz w/o losening my timmings too much.
Hi, I just bought the UT mobo and I have some problem to run my ram at stock speed its a Gskill F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK, anyone who use this ram please can share the exact settings?
memset is still reading my tRTP values as 2 higher than set in bios. is this a known issue w/ the software?
quick s/c @ 1200
http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2...6/cachemem.png
once again, slower than my asus... but still nothing to sneeze at.
*edit*
also, i can not just set +1.4v in bios as it crashes and i have to reset cmos, however i can set +1.4v in bios if i use the special vid section. is this something w/ the board i should be worried about?
*edit edit*
ok NOW we are getting somewhere. latency is still not as low as on the asus HOWEVER ive exceeded read, write, and copy bandwidth.
http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2...cachemem-1.png
apparently i left the pull ins on auto instead of enabling them to get pl7
also tweaked tREF from stock 3120T to 14592T in memset. that netted me 200 more mb read and almost 2ns less latency. now to stability test it. i expect it to pass w/ flying colors as ive done so before w/ same settings. just re-checking at this point.. 2 hours orthos ram test and im calling it a day. this dfi is getting better and better every day :D
Great job clocking your RAM Zen:up:. Really impressed.
I've got tRTP set to 3 in BIOS but MemSet 3.5 sees it as 5 as well. All other values are reported correctly.Quote:

cost me $45 after rebate :D
*edit*
had to set trfc to 50 to stabilize it. apparently 46 is too tight
here are my ram settings. the only thing i tweaked in memset was what i mentioned before.

what are the available waterblocks for the PWM?
I have been looking on some UK e-shops but I haven't found any :(
i had messaged jimmyz about a custom one he said that it was doable but never went through with it, since i never raised the money for liquid
If i set the read delay phase to enabled i got a complete nogo, on auto it works. whats the clue for read delay phase ??
Currently i am using the cellshock pc9200 sticks with D9GKX chips.

thks for the further hint buddy.
have changed the tref on fsb 440 and got this:

thks for the great tipps
maybe i will reach the 460 but tomorrow i have to change the radiator :D
greets
are u realy using 1.6V on a 45nm chip, thats not a good idea
saw it after the reboot and in everest. dont know why but probably i changed it by mistake with the other Voltages, but it´s already changed again to 1,35V. it was my fault.
tia
Good call on the tREF Zen. I just started messing with this now that I've tightened every DRAM timming in the BIOS. I'm already seeing an increase Rd/wt/copy and decrease in latency with just a small bump, 3120T to 4041T, in tREF.
I'm running 3 instances of MemTest to 100% between jumps so it might take a while but I'll post a before and after when I'm all done.
Thanks:up:
Do you guys like using OCCT? I hadn't tried it until this system, always used Prime 95. I'm trying to figure out why OCCT fails after 5 mins at the current speed, but Prime 95 had no problems doing 4 threads for 3 hours. I don't consider 3 hours a final test, I usually go 8-9 hours for that, I just hadn't settled on a final setup yet. Should I trust OCCT and assume that P95 just hasn't caught what OCCT has?
well x38 is gone so ill be here with the x48 soon as i get it.. cant wait for it!!!
can someone please explain the issue with the 3807x2 what is the problem exactly??
ZenEffect
When you set tREF in MemSet does it save your settings upon reboot? I can set tREF to 14592T and run Everest cache and bandwidth benchmark and see the improvements but once a reboot MemSet resets tREF to 4041T. Is there a way I can make this change permenent so that I don't have to reset tREF everytime I boot my computer?
Thanks.
..................................................
Nevermind, figured it out. You first have to delete your old save before you can apply a new one.
Ok now ive managed to get 4005Ghz stable on my E8400 but i need 1.39v as any lower i fail in occt. Without sounding stupid how can i get my v-core to 1.38v and stay there as ive tried the 100.23% with almost all volt settings and i can get 1.39 constant or 1.39 idle and 1.37 load but this make`s occt fail. If i could get 1.38v to stick at load and idle then i would be happy as i could test it in occt because 1.39 seems alot for a 4ghz overclock..
what are good DDR3s that could nicely go with this board?
Ive just run occt for a 2nd time just to be sure im 100% stable with the following settings. This has taken me 4 days to get right:rofl: and these are the only settings that give me a pass.

Can this board run stable with 4 sticks and 8GB or not really recommend?
Anyone tryd DFI Lanparty UT X48-T2R? Getting my today aswell as an E7200 ;) Is there anything I should know before I boot here upp for the first time? Issues, Buggs...?

the UT adn LT are the same board so it dosnt matter
and dont get teh 7x00 they have 3MB of cash and thats a huge drawback, but there shouldent be any problems except some GKX based ram dosnt do cas 5
Anyone was successfully able to run the g.skill 8500 ram with this mobo at its supposed speed (1066mhz)? If so please share me the bios settings cause I have big trouble actually running this ram.
Between the ram works, I've successfully tested it on my friend pc which had an Asus Rampage Formula mobo and it worked flawless at 1066mhz, so it's not the ram fault but some bios settings on the DFI mobo.
If the X48 DFI is anything like the X38 the standard settings are simpley way too tight for most ram modules. Check memory settings and set them from turbo to normal or maybe fast. Turbo is simply not working with many PC1066 modules out there (including my apogee GT's).
My CellShock D9Gkx runs great on this board with no issues.
i just discovered t2 dispatch. i set it to enable and went from 56ns to 53.4.
finally found something that works lol.
Anyone know any other timing related tweaks that could improve memory performance?

u need a bigger screen shot or a cropped with the everst/mem set
if those are double sided balistex try 333/800 with 5-5-5-15 with aggressive on your sub timings and e-a-e-e-e/e-a-a-e-e for your phases, and u will need like 2.15V ram and 1.5-1.55V NB
and set your performance lvl so its the same on both banks (8 or7) and set the same for mhc latency
yeah i know its abit slow.
two are single sided two are dble sided.cant get dble sided anymore they dont make em.
ive tried a few other settings but lost stability. ill try phases like u suggest ,thanks .
i set mhc and performance level to 8 and lost stability ,so i took out the 2x 1gb single sided modules.
ill see how i go with 2 gb of dlbe sided instead of 4 gb with mixed types. i did get 52 ns with 2gb of dble sided as oposed to 53.4 with 4gb mixed.
i think crusial lied to me when they said single sided modules perform better than the older doulble sided, thats why they dont make them anymore.
seems like there either wrong or lieing.
yep , its alot more stable now that i took the single sided modules out. no more c1 errors etc.
it is a shame because its almost impossible to get double sided modules now. ill have to use my crucials for boomarang practice and just buy some new sets. was thinking mushkins or gskill.
mushkin and gskill have no revD microns, u have to go team or cell shock or year old modules that are hard to find
or risk tank guys and get the gmh 1000mhz team thats back in stock
http://www.tankguys.com/product_info...oducts_id=1809
or some cell shock

ignore those ur OZ sorry
thats what i use, but the 667 rated ones
and they come with a spreader unless u ask for no spreader
Hey , Guys just wanted to stop in and say Hi:welcome:
How are all you fellas doing? Praz , emoaners , etc;)http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/h...ot_fun-1-1.gif
are u the GIF master now
Why you opposed to a little color to Brighten you're Day?:)
Anybody can share its bios settings for a stable OC a 8x450mhz 24/7 usage (I have the Q9450 cpu), if this aint work I will consider 8x425 or 8x400 solutions, I really care on stability, thanks in advance.
I'm thinking about getting the UT version of this board...... But I seen alot of post about G-Skills memory. I have the DDR2-800, will it give me any problems
