what is the purpose of AHCI? do you need to install drivers when loading windows (hit F6) when using this mode?
Good for you. At what FSB is everyone "working fine?"Quote:

Also my CPU (E6300) now runs @3,5GHz (but @1.525V unfortunatelly so I might go lower because the CPU is getting quite hot - 70C in Orthos, this seems a lot to me).
So anyone on a DS3, do yourself a favor and sell it ASAP and get the P5B DELUXE ;) The DS3 is a good board but not good enough for hardcore overclocking IMHO - already 450MHz FSB the board was making screeching sounds when Orthos was running. The P5B Deluxe, on the other hand, is really rock solid thus far and also doesen't make those dreaded screeching sounds. Btw, it took me around 30mins to setup a stable 500MHz FSB system on the Asus  But your mileage may vary of course :bounce:

we keep it cuz the P5B is only going to get you the higher ram which doesnt give you much performance at all, and maybe a slight higher fsb. which again is only a slight increase.
or.. people cant afford to buy another board.
Same crap with F5 :( Goes from 8x390 to 8x400 without a problem then when i shut the computer of for a while its restart restart restart and CMOS all over again... What to do. Can it be something with the settings?? Still does 8x430+ if I clock with EasyTune....Quote:

I freakin' hate that!!! The one thing that really pisses me off about this board is that damn restart crap happening after 12hrs+ prime stable... I haven't found a solution to this and it seems to be random, I also get the same thing if I press the reset button. So I just unplug at wall.Quote:

Lestat,no offence, I just wanted to share my thoughts (being an ex-DS3 user) and tell people to reconsider buying a Gigabyte board until they sort out the issues mentioned.. or encourage people that already have a DS3 to switch to a different board.
A few things I'd like to point out:
1. P5B is only 30 USD more than DS3 - it's not that much really,is it?
2. I needed higher RAM to get higher overclock on my E6300
3. P5B's chipset seem to run cooler than DS3's
4. DS3 was screeching at higher overclocks, P5B doesent, thank god as I use watercooling and got used to silence!
5. DS3 has problems setting certain VRAM, P5B doesent
6. New ASUS BIOS versions improve/fix things, with Gigabyte I noticed no significant change from F3-F6
...
The only thing I miss on the P5B is 1.0V VCORE ;) (minimum on the Asus is 1.25V, I used 1.0V on the DS3 when the CPU was running at default speed and was Orthos /SuperPi/MemTest stable)
Anyway, good luck to everyone that has problems with their Gigabyte board, I hope they finally release some miracle BIOS to fix them all.. I just sold my DS3 yesterday

Can someone update 1st post with the latest bios?
Latest bios is available at www.giga-byte.com.tw
No new beta bios as yet, interesting to see C2 stepping chipsets show up.
I'll wait and see if these new revision 2.0 boards are that different.
Dumo...any chance of some shots of the mobo?...as in the chips such as ITE/ICS/JMicron etc.

there arent any issues with the DS3 and Vram.. never once have i seen anyone have issues with controlling or setting the vdimm on a DS3. ony issue is using certain ram as it cant boot since the vdimm defualts to 1.8v or it used to.
but to each their own, its our right to pick a board that we think suites our needs and works best for us.
i cant complain about my DS3 its worked great, and yes the gigabyte bios's havent improved anything, atleast the F5 and F6 didnt.
the screaching is from the coil packs on the board and not every board does it,, even the P5B will do it for some people.
i would say if your going to spend any more money get the P5B Dlx or wait,, just a little longer til more of the C2 boards come out and wait to see if DFI is able to pulla rabbit out of their arse with the aTI board.
Did anyone try the DS4 F6a yet?
Where can one download this beta bios then?

Damn I HATE MY DQ6!!
I had a DS4 before en I could overclock to 420 FSB, that one goes RMA en I buyed a DQ6, and really it sucks for €220 , even a DS3 can do it better wich is a bit cheaper, and this is the topmodel of Gigabyte? Shame you!!
Bios F3 I can give +3v to mem, can overclock to 380 FSB
Bios F4 I can give +2,75 to mem en goes to 390 FSB
Bios F5 I can give +2.75 to mem en I managed 1 time to get 405 stable, ONLY 1 TIME!! en then i couldnt get over 390.
And the F5 bios is the baddest bios, it constant restarts , fans go 100% etc etc, This must be better then earlier biosses? NOT:s , I hope my board will die soon so it can go to RMA, then I buy a P5B..
Whats the problem of this thing man? Higer then 3v on mem is noo boot, it says bios rome image failed or something.
I want a P5B Wiifi but nobody buys my DQ6 :( .
Gigabyte this was my first Gigabyte mainboard, I choose becose the bad support of Asus, and now im gonna buy always a Asus board again, because Gigabyte... Nevermind
Thats for the ds3.Quote:

Have you played with this board? I'm a bit dissappointed to find the DS3 didn't have the R designation for the chipset...no RAID for Jod. I guess I shoulda paid a teeny bit more attention there, lol! So now I'm left in a dilemma of boards. The new Abit looks nice...Quote:

Only 2 drives supported, but its there.
TBH intel should include raid support in all of their chipsets, thats a fairly basic function these days, and has been supported by nvidia & other chipsets for years. (on ALL sata ports)
Is there a big different between bios F3 and F6 ? I'am running now at F3 and i don't have any problems. Keep F3 ?
If it ain't broke... :D
I have a tendency to upgrade whether it works or not, but it's your choice.
no i havent, and i dont need to if it is made by or carries the Asus name it is instantly stuck in the trash in my eyes.Quote:

Still no bios updates?...see this is what happens with Gigabyte, they end up releasing bios every like 4 months after the initial board release period...so we all have to suffer for months!
Richard,
LAst Bios Update was two weeks ago! You can hardly call that a month let alone 4 months, please keep your flaming and be reasonable...
and besides the board isnt even 4 months old you silly goose.
i have a sneaky feeling the guys who were sharing the beta bios's were NOT supposed to be sharing them and gigabyte said to stop it or else.
I'm got a big problem here. I think others have had the same problem, but I couldn't find a solution. DS3 won't recognize my ide hdd (which has been verified to work) or any additional ide hdd for that matter. I've got 1 sataII drive and 1 ide drive. However, when I try to add the ide drive, windows displays the drive as "unreadable". Anyone come across this?:(
Lestat, do you know if Team and Gigabyte have made any progress with the D9 issues?Quote:

No one from gigabyte ever visits here or openly admits they work for GB. so when all of the sudden all the beta bios's disappear and so does the guy who was sharing them.. you better believe that guy was probably never supposed to be sharing them anyways
no i havent heard anything on the TG or the gskill ram. to me thats not a good sign, if they had fixed it we probably would have heard something by now. i take it as a bad sign.Quote:
Lestat, do you know if Team and Gigabyte have made any progress with the D9 issues?
personally i figure the true fix will come in the C2 chipsets.
I find it rather disturbing the DS4 and DQ6 run that ram just fine but the DS3 cant.. yet they cant sit down and say..ok what did we make different in the DS3,, and then fix it,, if possible.
i dont think the DS3 has the backbone in the NB chipset to handle the ram at any higher than 950. but thats just my opinion.

i think its a good idea too and the only known bad flashes,, atleast around here was the F3 betas where they mislabelled the DS3 bios,, it was really a DQ6 bios. and that was 100% their fault.. not ours.
but either way.. i have a feeling they are working on things.. its just that with the C2 boards coming in stock... i dont even want to mess with mine anymore.. atleast not until i find out if they fixed the f'ing D9 issues... cuz if they didnt fix the D9 issues in the C2 then fook gigabyte right in the arse whole im going to buy the Abit baord.
If Gigabyte won't fix all those problems this will my FIRST and LAST Gigabyte mainboard, they will lose many customers.. believe me  :slapass: :nono: .Quote:

Wow, every review of the DQ6 I've found has been extremely positive.
This review is pretty good though - they even tell you how they got an E6400 running at 3.5 GHz and how long they stress tested it for:
http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/200...65p_dq6/9.html
I completely agree that the eSATA brackets that come with the board are pretty much useless. I'd rather have a Firewire/USB2 PCI bracket instead.
i'd stake my paycheck that they are using the C2 rev board.
the review date is just yesterday, Oct 4th
Yeaah I bought this motherboard because in every review they got excellent results, and i've got it home... and it sucks....
Maybe hand-picked boards or what?
My DQ6 is as good as the one in the review. Using the F5 bios (and previous F3 as well) I can reach the FSB of 450 w/o any problems. I can do it with ease. Didn't try more than that, as my chip - E6400 - requires 1.5V to run 3.6 GHz, and that's really hot. Overclocking with this mobo is extremely easy.
Emperium - I advise you to run your with different sticks - that may help. It's not really smart to use el cheapo RAM with a low multiplier CPU. RAM might be the culprit here.
My dq6 is performing great too... got it spi 32m stable an 3dmark stable at 495 FSB. Can take memory at 500 mhz 4-4-3-4 with divisor
The ram does 5-5-5-15 @ stock voltage 800 Mhz, even 830 is no problem with 1.8, ig i give +2v it can handle 870 100% stable, why cant I touch the 400 Mhz FSB?? Not matter wich settings I use..:slap: .Quote:

3. try not to plug in USB mouse. my board is able to OC without USB mouse. Ps2 mouse will do just fine. this also applies to keyboard.
4. when i OC with all the above conditions, the enabling of usb legacy support doesn't really come into play. i guess it's not affecting mine.
that's all that i've found out for today. i'm still not OC-ing my board cos no PS2 mouse. btw, i'm getting another replacement gfx and hope to post more findings.

All the other things I could say have been said many times already, but not these two.
why should you have to remove your USB mouse and keyboard? That's pathetic...
you dont have to touch the usb mouse and kb,, for the sake of arguement i switched to a ps2 setup and it made no difference. none at all. usb devices havent caused issues for a long time. and thats not the issue now.
Emperium just set your FSB to 400 and reboot, make sure you give the cpu plenty of juice. regardelss of what your using now once you hit a certain spot these chips usually require a hefty jump in voltage to get higher.
try 1.45v and see what it does. or even 1.5
the early conroes sucked for overclocking. and cold be the cause,
you could also just have a bumb board

wierd indeed.
