Yeah, how much moolah does a chip like mine run for these days? Can do 3 ghz on 1.4ish volts, probably less with some good-ass tweaking and cooling.
Man, I was so happy when I saw the stepping of my new Opteron 170 saw. 0617 FPMW:banana: . But I think I got the worst 0617 ever. I can only do 2700@1,4V stable on my KN8 Sli, at 2800/1,4 I get instantly errors in Orthos:(. Temps are 54 C under Prime so that shouldnt be a Problem. That sucks so hard.
But is it CCBBE or CCBWE ...?
Hmm wierd....But temps seens to be high with so low vcore..have you tried 1.3v and 2700mhz?Quote:

With 1,3V Orthos stops after 1 sec. With 1,35 it ran about 10 min then also stopped. Perhaps my board is the weak point?Quote:

Have you tried running it at x9 instead of x10. I have noticed a trend that the 170's are not getting as high even though they are the same steppings. Maybe these opty's just love the x9 instead of the higher multi's. Might be worth a shot. They should be the exact same chip with the exception of different steppings unlocked.
My 165 will be here tommorow from Newegg. I am crossing my fingers.

That's not too shabby for 1.45v.
Just got my Opty 170 in from the egg, stepping is CCBBE 610. I've run a Prime for 8 hours at 10x290 with 1.4v. Pretty happy so far seeing as the 175 I had couldn't run over 2550Mhz stable no matter what I tried.
Playing around with my 165, and now it clocks better than before :D
Haven't changed a thing, and now it does 2592 mhZ with 1,4 volts, which still isn't "good" :( But it's better than before!
I finally got some new ram that lets me go down the next divider so I can overclock. Still trying to figure out my max though, seems 2.5 ghz at 1.35 volts is pretty stable. 2.6 ghz is unstable though at about 1.4 volts, sometimes it'll post, sometimes it won't, I'm not sure what to do.
2,5 ghz is too little ..
did you set ht x3 and low mem div ?
testing stability of my opty 165 @ 323x9 = 2906 1.456v
2 x spi 32M

it can run 1h dual prime then it stops. I have the problem of temps ... above 55c
Chop chop, off with the top! :DQuote:

Just use a standard razor blade and go very slowly. It'll take forever to get the top off that way but you won't hurt anything either. It took me 2 hours to take my first one off - #2 took 15 minutes ... :)
So there's still some active dual-core opteron talk over here.
I've managed to get mine stable at 9x355 with 1.61v. *IHS removed*
It's cooled by an 1200L/h hydor L30 pump with a bottom-mounted black ice pro 2 radiator running 2x120 sunon fans.Does up till 130cfm.
Not just the cpu-block is in the loop, but also the chipset.
Planning on going higher than 361 fsb tonight.
how much vcore did it take to get your XPMW to 3.2?Quote:
