Funny you should say that. I dropped back to stock speeds and just did 10 hours overnight of memtest. No errors. So I'm pretty sure my RAM is okay.

But I'm not sure my timings are right...in addition to upping FSB term voltage in order to get into XP, I also dialed back AI from moderate to lighter, and that helps me get into XP as well.

Basically, I'm trying one thing at a time to isolate the problem. Even though my RAM passes all the tests I throw at it, there's something very strange going on and I'm not convinced that my RAM isn't the culprit.

I'm off to do 4 hours RAM test in OCCT, if that turns out good with my new settings then I'll move onto the CPU to see if I can isolate the problem there.

I am on the 9893 modded and man are my memory latencies better check it out,

I looked at the Linpack thread and saw AgentGod released a new version 1.6... Cero this one works for me as I passes maxium stress test with 3.5Gb of ram occupied, it finished too with the lower vcore... but it had one error (so it didn't reboot the pc like before)

Thanks mate yeah I hope I get it sorted, and I would love after sales service like you seem to have there in Belgium. Australia is pretty bad in that regard. Our prices are high too, which is one of the reasons I'm not looking forward to having to purchase a new board.

I'm interested though, are you saying the 1306 bios allows you to run the vcore lower but remain stable at the same cpu speed?

any one help me i try to 450 fsb with e8500 everything auto only cpu 1.3v system boot run fine but try to run p95 after 12min getting error

Prices are in Belgium also a bit high compared to surrounding countries but stuff like mobo and ram I don't mind to pay the premium as my shop is really fab for RMA and swaps...

For the Vcore yes it works stable enough for me...it's not linpack stable (with 2 lower settings on the Vcore), but it's prime, OCCT stable with the lower setting... and that's enough for me... The above linpack test was at 1.25Vcore again at 4ghz ram at 1066Mhz, for day to day ops I can run about 1.24Vcore...

Plz try this template sir : are you trying to run 9.5 multi with 450FSB at 1.3Vcore, that's a bit too low unless you have a golden CPU

If they have really pulled the bioses then it could be because of this issue

803 is stable here for me, using ket's modded 803 (see other thread) since last day but not going to try more than 3.6, its just for tweaking my memory in the future as I have not done that before, and its supposed to be more forgiving on memory. At the moment I am all "auto" on these stick

After having multiple problems with a previously rock stable 3.6 (from that margin enhancement issue) I am happy to sit @ 3.6 24/7 with speed step using 803 bios. I dont want to push it (I'm on air and need 1.34375volts with this chip)

Will be interesting to see if future bioses from asus have the feature removed

Leeghoofd, define golden cpu... something with low VID like 1v or 1.1v VID? :D

Vid to me has got nothing to do with a golden cpu yes or no.. a golden cpu is one that clocks well with low Vcore, that does good FSB and isn't a hothead...

For example I got a pretty good Qx9650 here: VID is 1.25 (one of the worst I got on the Qx's) yet it remains mega cool, does 500FSB if required and only needs 1.25Vcore for 4Ghz ops (it's daily speeds, in the summer it's at 3.6Ghz at 1.12Vcore)... I have one Xeon 3110 Vid is 1.1ish , but is an extreme hothead and needs watercooling or better above 3.6ghz as temps go over 65°C on the True (CPU is already lapped)...

VID is nice but doesn't necesarrily mean it's a golden one... but opinions differ on that matter :D

hey guys quick question, should "acpi 2.0 support" be enabled? It's disabled by default and I can't find any good info on google.

ACPI 2.0 is harmless and should be enabled. however, it should be enabled during OS install, if it wasnt and you enable it later you might not boot. in that case youll need to reinstall your OS with it enabled for it to work.

i am going to try kets 1306 bios as a last resort before i ditch this mobo. funny thing is i dont think there's anything actually wrong with it, i think asus just dropped the ball on it. probably the worse asus mobo i have ever bought.

Is it better than p5q?

All bioes are listed on Asus website 1306, 1201, 1103, 0803, 0704 and 0610.

Asus website is screwy as say one min they all there the next min only up to 0803 is there and same with day by day .....

Although my board still has the can't boot at DDR1200 - 1277 issue, which is obviously an issue, I know why my board is no longer stable. It's my damn cpu degrading. It already degraded so that I had to bump vcore to 1.32v load to have 4GHz stable, now it needs more vcore after another week. Damn these degrading wolfdales.

I downclocked from 4GHz to 3.93GHz, and passed everything I threw at it. Rebooted fine, passed everything again and again. I upped it to 4GHz again, gave it more vcore (had to enable LLC to avoid going over 1.36v idle) and with 1.344v load, it passed everything like it used to. Dammit. I need a new cpu, I can't stand to be under 4GHz now I've had it :(

I think I'm going to give my board and cpu to my gf (she's more than happy with 3.9GHz 24/7), and get an e8600 & Maximus II formula.

So, in summary, I'm an idiot, and blamed all my issues on my board, when it was my damn cpu.

Anyone who reads my statements about these boards, take them with a grain of salt. The board, apart form it's DDR1200 - 1277 no post issue, is the same as it was when I bought it.

Cryptik, you really like to use the F word a lot... Can't you calm down and RMA your cpu instead ;) :D

i try 3dmark06 with out of box e8500@4275 with 1.3 v in bios setting everything on auto here is result cpu seem stable

lol I was using the awesome bananas in place of more than just the f word :D I just needed to vent. I'm not that homicidally mad, just irritated at the situation, and now looking at all my bananas, I can see the humour in the situation, and it makes me laugh, so that's good. I'm calm now, promise :)

I can't RMA the cpu, it runs at it's rated speed at it's rated voltage, so I'm stuck with it.

CryptiK, sorry to hear that... well, maybe you can still RMA it and say it's overheating :D

Looks good but better back down on the volts (you got pm for that) looks nice your EO 8500 mate, might be a nice one... just test CPU first with some OCCT or whatever program you prefer... then test the ram and co... a 3dmark run is not always conclusive enough

Well you all know my CPU issue Q6600 = Degraded = 2 weeks of stressing it out and now i can't pass linpack and few other programs at 3.6ghz any more.... is it CPU or is it this friggen mobo?

I am getting scared as my E8600 should be in on Monday or Tuesday and i fear if the MOBO is causing CPU's to degrade . then i want to sell it off and get a better mobo.

Now that being said do all Wolfies Degrade? and if so at what VOLTS is acceptable for NO major degration.

Nah it will be ok, my gf will be more than happy with it. There's no guarantee that the one i may (or may not) receive in return would clock well either, I have seen a lot of people needing 1.4v+ to get 4GHz on CO stepping 8400's. Mine isn't that bad in the grand scheme of things.

After pricing the 8600's I think I'll just get an 8500, but I want an E0 stepping so that may take some time, or gentle persuasion, to get someone in a store to verify they have E0's and agree to send me one.

I have had the pc up and running for 4 weeks. It has degraded in that time. Everything was brand new out of the box when I set it up. I had it running for 2 weeks before I noticed any degradation, and now 4 weeks later, I am 50mV higher than I was to begin with, to be stable at 4GHz.

I would suggest from the amount of reports about wolfie degradation, that yes, they do degrade, but whether they continue to after an initial degradation phase, I don't know for sure. I hope not. However it is also difficult to pinpoint a safe voltage for them, I have personally never gone above 1.360v, and 1.32v is max load vcore it's ever got. After raising the vcore to 1.32v load (1.36v idle) it was stable for 5 days, before degrading more, and now it needs 1.33Xv to be stable at 4GHz. It concerns me, as intel state 1.3625v as the max, and I have never hit that, let alone gone above it, ever. I also have never seen it go above 52*C.

I would say keep it as close to 1.20v as you can, but even then you couldn't be sure it wouldn't degrade. I am thinking of getting an 8500, and I too am now concerned that it will also degrade as this one has.

EDIT - as for your Q6600 no longer being stable at 3.6GHz, that could be cpu or board, although I never saw any reports of 65nm chips degrading unless they were severely punished.
