Forward: official GIGA 965P-S3/DS3/DS4/DQ6 beta BIOS

I am experiencing Vcore drop as following

BIOS 1.48750v -> ET5 1.47v -> CPU-Z 1.440v : Rock stable
BIOS 1.49375v -> ET5 1.48v -> CPU-Z 1.214v : Orthos failed in seconds

It looks like Vcore in CPU-Z v1.38 is more reliable,
but just can't figure out why increasing Vcore in Bios will result in such Vcore drop,
Is it caused by PSU, mobo, or Bios?

Current config.: DQ6, F7, and PSU is T.C.Star H480/480W.

I almost decide to place my order for a Seasonic Energy+ 550, but want to seek your valuable advice before that.

DS3 1.0 works fine with vista AND quadcore. So its just marketing jive.

I'm really curious becouse now it seems to be a faulty DS4 board.
I have tested my X-Fi eXtreme music on another two computers and it ran flawlesly. But my DS4 seems to have same problems. It's the same with all BIOS revisions and without X-Fi the system runs fine, I tested 5 hours of movie playback and without a single skip.

It looks like the XFi is somehow overloading PCI bus or something.
Maybe someone from Gigabyte could help me?

System:
E6600, GB DS4, 2GB Kingston, X1900XT, X-Fi
System is NOT overclocked.

As mentioned ALL over the internet. X-Fi is prone to over saturated PCI bus, you can do a number of things to correct this issue (I had same problem on old motherboard, i don't have it with DS3).
1. Adjust PCI latency in BIOS to different values.
2. Turn off all memory "turbo" options, or put to default options in bios.
3. Disable all unneeded sound options in windows.

Personally, I think your issue is a driver one, since you say it is ONLY in movie playback? If it was a soundcard issue it would also appear in music also. Did you make sure you have the latest video card drivers AND codecs for computer installed? I would investigate that before the soundcard.

Remove all codecs from system, reinstall the basic ones and try movie playback again.

CPUZ and ET5 are not a reliable source for vcore... you can only trust a multimeter..

PD: I want a DQ6 2.0!! :D

You could try increasing the PCI latency level for the PCI devices in the bios. That option shows up after you have done a Ctrl-F1 on the main bios screen. You can set it from 32 up to 128.

Just a thought. Maybe it will help.

any news on the ds3 f8 bios? i emailed gigabyte and they said they didnt know when it would be out, if they dont know who does??

The beta one is working pretty good for me. 516 max.

f8i tested here with my d9gkx and they won't even boot higher then f7. No fix there atleast for me :poke:

yeah the f8 is good till you do a cold boot, or leave the computer off- i turned it on and all the bios settings are on default- not good!

I use Everest and CPU-z for various details. Everest is always in line with CPU-z as far as vCore goes, give or take rounding. I'm running Everest v3.01.715 beta, several weeks old so there's bound to be new Betas since. Don't mean to ask a seemingly silly question, but are you reading your vCore from Everest's 'Computer|Sensor' page, as the 'Motherboard|CPU' page shows only the default vCore i.e., 1.325v.

i got ds4 with f3 bios and it stucks at 428fsb. which bios of ds4 (rev1 ofcourse) can take me up to 440+ fsb

thanks! I'm on it right now. Looks good so far. I still can't find a trend when setting my vmch and vfsb for optimal fsb. Anyone have any hints? Or are most boards different?

Try F5c and F6 Final and F7e for find your best

I wouldn't use F8J on any P4. I loaded it and my board is dead. It died where it would have usually gone into it's cold boot recovery. It actually booted a few times and then when i tested acold boot it killed itself.

I tried clearing cmos and taking out the battery and it wont put a thing on the screen. It sounds like it is posting but nothing. It is dead!

F6 is the best one... I've tried F7e and it's no boot after FSB 490MHz, but F6 works fine even at 510MHz

I follow this thread from page 20 (mid august) and still can't solve problem with my comp. Maybe some of you know what could be the cause and can help me.

I have problem with my system on Gigabyte DS4 board and Core 2 Duo 6600 - all at stock speed. When turnining on the comp or restarting, system powers off for a moment and then powers on again and then post and go on. Sometimes it goes at once but let say 80% is first power off and then on. System is rock stable. I had no single crash or reboot when working. I noticed it loads different bioses - sometimes it's main bios and sometimes backup. When updating bioses I have to update both of them ;-).

There's one more thing with my cordless Logitech MX700 mouse (ps2) on this system. Sometimes after system starts, on welcome screen with user listing mouse works OK, but when I click on user to login mouse freezes after user profile is loaded. I have to remove and then inserts cable to mouse ps2 port and then mouse is active again. It happens only after system start - when changig profiles later there's no such a problem.

I wonder what could be cause of these - faulty board, cpu, not compatibile memory, still early BIOS. I thought it could be incompatibile memory or early BIOS but we have F7E and problem still not solved - maybe it's faulty mobo?

Reseting CMOS, removing battery, changing bios to newer didn't help to resolve this. I tried every bioses from out of the box F2 to actual F7E and found no fix.

I also e-mailed Gigabyte support, but they only advised me to update BIOS or send them the board.
