WOW, all I can say is... I am jealous! One day I will have a great build like that... Keep up the good work.
You just take brilliant pictures
Keep them comming :D
Coming along nicely
apologies for the slow updates... here's something for now:
i discussed the plan with a close friend a few months back on 'updating' the old rads, and we both thought that a new paint should bring a fresh look.
that should clean up the battered and scratched bods of the rad.
finally, managed to get some time and work on it.
unfortunately, i forgot to take the before pics - although this pretty much was how it looked like before the 'operation'

at first, i had the insane idea of hand painting them... definitely not working :p: as you can see here. haha.

spent time fixing the catastrophe... managed to get down to the bare metal part! first time seeing a semi-naked feser :D

needs a bit more sanding

details on the inlet/outlet end, didn't sand too much here - worried the solder will be ruined

the other end, same thing - solder clearly seen

a little more work and should be ready for painting

:explode:I wish I had the patience you have my friend. Still very impressive build!
and so it continues...
the paraflow hole at the bottom provided some challenge in mounting the radiators. so i spent quite sometime designing a bracket that would be sturdy, fit right into the lower compartment, unobtrusive to the paraflow (and intake fans) and robust enough to hold the rads. it took me a couple of 'prototypes' until i settled on the final version.
it starts with the aluminum sheet, a few strips are cut
http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/h...g/f1805f28.png
the edges are filed and sanded
http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/h...g/3c908e39.png
the corners are rounded off and cleaned up as well
http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/h...g/3cbe1911.png
measurements done, bend lines marked and mounting holes drilled
http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/h...g/916f36e6.png
first strip clamped down
http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/h...g/9aee33d3.png
bent and hammered down

special treatment on the rad mounting holes

rad mounting holes cleaned

bottom mounting holes tapped

and done
http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/h...g/adc2acac.png
now that the bracket is done, time for 'almost' final fitting, the 240 was the first one up

view from the midplate, the rad mount hole allows minor adjustments

the bracket can block the receiving holes for the side panel
http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/h...g/4ab9e351.png
this tab in the side panel will hit the bracket
http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/h...g/ad27531c.png
solution: tab bent back flat with the panel
http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/h...g/07e60cab.png
panel secure and stable even minus 1 holding tab

360 rad gets the same treatment

looks alright... queued for painting

beautifully done bianco, love the paint and love the brackets
Nice update. I like the red rads - definitely adds a bit of flare to an already great looking build.
Waiting in anticipation.
thanks CP! now i need to decide on the color of the bracket. see if either black or red would look nicer with the rads. will be using the prototypes for experiment.
thanks shazza. and i'm glad you like it!
haha. thanks max. moving in snail's pace due to time constraints... glad to have you watching this one.
awesome looking brackets! you planning on painting them?
Very nice job on those rad mounts Bianco!
Shame you had to bend back that side-panel notch... shouldn't be a problem though as there's still two. :)
thanks sniperbob. :)
yeah, still deciding between red and black though. i'm leaning more towards black... but i'll be painting the 2 'bad' copies i made earlier. easier for me to visualize.
this is one of the earlier copies i made, had to make adjustments to the bends
http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/h...g/08edc635.png
thanks Charles! :)
yeah, it was either that or make an opening on the bracket. but i decided not to since it could weaken the bracket and bend when the rads are filled. anyways, i gave the side panel a scientific way of checking for sturdiness (by shaking the case :p), and it didn't come loose or rattle. :D
bianco, I think some black will look nice with the rads. You know, red and black :D
i hear you CP. i did a couple of sketches (on paper... still crappy with sketchup :p:) and tried red/black as bracket colors... and the black seems to be the better choice. the red just makes it look blend with the rad... while the black seems to make the bracket a part of the chassis the rad stands out better.
Aren't you not going to really see it anyway because it's behind mesh? Well I guess if you paint it red you will but black I think would stealth it a bit... go black ;)
Any updates bianco? :)
yup, the brackets will be black. i never really got to do the paint test, but been relying on old fashioned drawings on paper. :P black had a better effect than red.
thank you Max and Charles for the interest.
unfortunately, my day job required more time from me... extending into early mornings. and i will have to attend a series of training-meetings for several days in the next few weeks. *sigh*
i'm preparing a couple of pictures for upload on a very recent acquisition i've made for the project though... hopefully this would be enough to keep this project interesting. :)
