Hi.
Did any of you who have tried 0901... experienced a huge CPU temp drop??
I had 0704 and 1,44 vcore with 35º @ iddle,... now I have about 15º less !!!
I haven't upgraded my H2O cooling and these temps are confirmed by Everest, Coretemp and RealTemp. Room ambient temps are just 2ºC less, around 26ºC.
I don't know what to say ...
Regards
Hi everybody, My first post here :)
Got my P5Q deluxe yesterday and found the bios a bit of a step up from my AW9D-Max to be honest.Googled this thread and have found it a godsend, some great advice, thank you
Got a couple of questions
Heres my settings and results so far, how do they look?
Are my temps ok?
Would i be better with some PC2-8500 ram?
Any advice would be great :D

Looks great Sativa, good CPU too mate, nice clocks at low volts... small question you are running 1:1 yet in ya template you set 1081... second question you mention LLC disabled yet Vcore is 1.23 and real Vcore under load also 1.23... sure LLC is not on AUTO or ENABLED ? I need to set about 1.3 to have 1.24 without LLC...
Only thing you can improve here is to play a bit with the PL levels... since you are running 1;1 and Transaction Booster at AUTO PL level is set at 13... you can lower it to 10-11 and get a good increase in bandwith and a drop in RAM Latency...second thing you could do is to play with the clock tiwster... try moderate instead of AUTO and test again...
Good Job mate !!
Thanks mate :)
Edited my above post was a copy and paste job from a previous post missed a few.
My DRAM frequency should of read 901 and my LCC was on auto.
Also my Common performance level was set to 10.
Will have a play about with clock twister thanks.
One thing though,Bit of a noob question, Vista now takes a long time to load, about 20 sweeps with the green bar , do you think thats down to the overclock?
I have a friend with the P5Q Pro and is having the same problems as this person is, gets errors using both EZFlash and AFUDOS, used various tags with AFUDOS. Has there been any response to this, I did a little browsing and didn't find an answer to this, sorry if there is one. Thanks.
EDIT: He just told me that he tried both methods with 0703 (official from asus) and also to the 0901 (the one he want to install) and nothing worked ...
Ok I just got 2 640GB WD Caviars and put them in the EZ Backup setting (RAID 1) and tried to install Vista. I got to like 56% and then I got an I/O error 0x8007045D so I researched and thought it was my CD drive. Took me forever and 2 trips to best buy to get a Sata drive, but it still doesn't work. I'm on the verge of a break down, I can't take this. I am very depressed.
Hey all,
EDIT: Nevermind. I'm an idiot. :)
Using some settings I copied off some templates here I just got this.
 I know I can go to 4Ghz.

Bios 0901 here ... all ok till now. Didn't noticed any performance diference from 0803.
Have it like this for now :
http://img161.imageshack.us/img161/5...18800piqv2.jpg
Notes:
- a little bit more of vNB as reported by Leeghoofd ( must do some DMM readings )
- still no PL=7
- still 1200MHz was a no go here with 450fsb:
@ 1203MHz (strap 400) = no boot at all
@ 1199MHZ (strap 333) = crash entering windows
@ 1128MHz (strap 266) = OK using only 1,9vDIMM ! ;)
I had this board, but i have some problems: i can't reach 600fsb.
my 8400 on a commando reached 610x7, but with this board it stops at 580x7...
what is the better bios in max fsb? now i had the 702, i tried also the 704...
i have an other question: how does the clock skew operate? how can i know what is the component that is in delay respect the others?
sorry for my bad english!
Guys, the values of overvoltage of this mobo, that the jVIDIA posted a few days ago, is occurring in the same way in these new bios?
You check bios 0803, jVIDIA?
thanks!
No I didn't measure yet 0803 or 0901.
I don't know I don't have a voltmeter. I just bumped everything a little from stock sos not to have that happen. The highest clock on air for me seems to be the 8x 490 I reached last night. I can run my 24/7 3.8Ghz like I wanted to now though
as a few of ya guys here may know im kinda new to the OCing world, and i see a few other new members (not saying they are noobs) could some one clear up some terms for me?
PL=
LLC=
and anything else?
PL = performance level : it's a setting that influences the rambandwith, latency, it's value is dependant on the ram you use, type , amount, FSB selected : in fact the lower the better : Expect with this board around 9-10 with 1:1 divider, 7-9 with a divider (eg 3:4,...)... try to get the lowest value for best RAM performance
LLC = Load Line Calibration : eliminates Vdroop/drop so setting in bios corresponds with the voltage value given to the CPU under idle/load. To clarify an example :
In bios set 1.4, without LLC it will be around eg 1.37 in Windows at idle, around 1.34 under load... With LLC enabled you set 1.4 and it should give 1.4 under load and idle... I said should as this board slightly tends to overvolt under load with LLC enabled...
Hope it's is somewhat clear, I don't use magical technical terms as I don't understand them and mostly neither of you...
What are the pullins?
Hi all:) my first post on this forum
I overclocked E6600 to 3.2Ghz with bios memory settings on auto and i have high latency in everest test. Can anybody help me to tweak it to get a lower latency, please.

P5Q Deluxe rocks. I have virtually no vdroop at all. 1.3000 set in BIOS, 1.296 reported by CPUZ under load.
Currently running my X3350 @ 470 x 8 w/ 1.3000 v in the BIOS. 3 cores are stable with lower voltage but the 4th core always crashes p95 so I'm still finding stable settings for 3.8ghz.

New mobo for me with Q6600
400 fsbx8 multi
Why core temp appears ok and CPU-Z wrong
You still got EIST on mate in the bios... it drops down to 6x multi when CPU is idle... do you need 1.39Vcore for 3.2Ghz ? LLC enabled yes or no ?
Dunno mate, I don't have the MF II, but next week my mate will have his 2 4870 cards and he will test them on his P5Q dlx, hopefully he can deliver us some good news that the Tweaktown review was a bit over the top... I like my board with a single card solution... totally amasing to me... P5K Dlx revisited for me...easy setup and reliability... and coming from an Nvidia mobo you will be pleasantly surprised
You can't test for stability at idle, other than letting the machine sit idle.
How I will go higher with muskin 800MHz 5-5-5-12 memory
Trying with all straps I can go higher, with 8 multi, than 400 fsb and KEEP MEMORY AT 800 MHz 1:1
any suggestion?
best Bios so far is ???
No real differences from 0702 onwards.
Just finishing measuring the voltages of the 0901.
All stays the same as my previous overvoltage readings with the 0702:
http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/1...eadingscl8.jpg
But I downgrade back to 0803 because I feel it more solid than 0901.

Thank you for information,
is it mean putting a min.voltage value on this mobo leading to serious overvoltage? also for SB and PCIE?
What are the pullins for?
Hey guys and hope you can help.
New install E8400 and P5Q Pro using 2 X 2GB Corsair DDR2800 PC6400 5,5,5,18 1.9v
Everything runs fine at default, all stress testing is ok.
I made only a few changes. Just taking FSB Freq to 400 (which my RAM is rated for) and rasing DDR Volt to 2.0.
I can not get through memtest w/o errors. I lowered CPU ratio so CPU is not at 3.2ghz. I tried raising DDR volt 2.1, and no help. I also tried using DDR slots 2/4 instead of 1/3.
This RAM ran fine @DDR800 in previous P5B 965 board. What should I try next? I really don't think the RAM is bad.

What are the pullins foir?
I believe they are almost the equivalent of running one notch lower tRD (Performance Level).
I know they affect Everest scores about the same was as dropping to one lower tRD notch anyway.
So in my case, i run tRD 8 + all pull-ins enabled, since i cannot POST if i run tRD 7.
Well, i've spent hours & hours changing timings & rebooting, running HCI & rebooting...etc.
Doesn't really help that i've updated bios pretty much every time a new one is out.
There are three sets of subtimings on this mobo, & unfortunately for my tweaking, one (or a few) of those timings affects HCI Memtest stability in a big way.
So i'm presently running the 1st set manually set to the same timings as auto puts them at, & the second & third set i've set one notch looser for each one, since auto sets one (or more) of them a wee bit too tight...just haven't figured out which one(s) wrecks stability...there's only like 12 to pick from :(
One thing i am happy with is how much lower i've been able to drop NB voltage & vDIMM.
I've gotten to somewhere i'm pretty happy with in terms of performance, but also stability, though i'm still going to eventually try to figure out which of those remaining 12 subtimings prefers being set looser.

I was looking to find out other voltages for Dram etc etc. I have all them to AUTO at min.
Take a look at my post just above yours.
It seems this board really doesn't need much voltage.
Other than CPU, vdimm, & vNB, i have everything set one notch above minimum, mainly since intially i was hearing that minimum actually overvolted a bunch of them.
For DRAM voltage, whatever yours is rated for, i'd do that or a bit lower.
Beware that the board tends to overvolt the RAM so for eg for 2.1 set 2.02 or such...Also AUTO voltages are way ganderous as some are really overvolting...
I would just see what PL is set with that FSB, download MemSet 3.5 and read out the Performance Level... Mostly the bios sets aroudn 2-3 settings to high... Lower is better there.. I think you can maybe reach 6 or so... also play some with the Clock Twister... Moderate should work fine...
Plz adjust one setting at a time ! if it doesn't post you can find a solution way easier...
Try for the voltages these plz :
CPU Voltage: 1.26875
CPU GTL Voltage Reference (0/2): AUTO
CPU GTL Voltage Reference (1/3): AUTO
CPU PLL Voltage: 1.54
FSB Termination Voltage: 1.3

I got the hacked Nvidia drivers working on my 8800Gts 512  . Check out my new vantage scoree in my sig it went up 800 points. I am going to try to bench 06 now and see if that sky rockets to.
i've noticed CPU PLL makes a difference might try 1.58 on it
Did some testing and my older TwinX 6400-C4 seems to work fine in memtest past DDR 940 and my Wolfe 8400 has a wall at 4ghz
I became very unstable at 3970@1.32v and upped voltage to 1.4 which got me to 4040mhz
still not bad being at 3.9-4.0 just wish I had a CPU that could have gone to 4.3-4.4
So it seems Pq5 dlx doesn't like some Corsair Ram the DDR1066 was a headache but does good on my older set of C4.
SInce this E8400 craps out at 4ghz think I should upgrade to a Quad since those seem to hit 4ghz??

How important is the FSB Termination voltage?
Hummmm .... lets just say that @450FSB with less than 1,28vFSB my system won't boot ;)
Well guys 1 week ago i was looking at motherbord and after ready all 50 pages of this tread i decided to go whit this baby im sure it got alot of potential but does it run hot?? and should i flash my bios before installing everything?
Thanks
Guys , are there any rams these mobos dont like ? Can I use my 6400 ballistix or 6400 Team's ? Or should I be looking for others ?
I start off with most values besides FSB/RAM speed, Vcore and Ram voltage manually set.. from there one i slowly start to set each setting manually... if you set all from the start and it doesn't post hard to know where you went wrong... the board is well designed and the bios is great as it will post mostly with AUTO , but these values are mostly over the top regarding volts so it's better to set a lower value manually...
also if it posts and get's into windows, I reboot and save the settings to my OC profile... from there on more tweak time...
On CPU-Z appears memory type DDR3 ????
The best ram for this mobo is????
GSkill PI 8000 or
A-DATA 1200 MHz
http://oc.adata.com.tw/1_product_det...?pid=AD21200EU
Target = 500 550 FSB RAM 1:1
nice, my setup is very similar...finally some decent memory performance out of this board as well.

So I need stability for 24/7 use as hight it's posible
I don't wanna O/C DDR2 any more
3 sets dead in the last 7 months (teamgrup 1200 and 1000 and one SellChock 1000)
So for the future only defaults Volts or even undervolt with asus mobo's
Compairing to simple DDR, DDR2 is an industry s_ _ _ t :banana::banana::banana::banana:
i got tired of RMAing my Ballistix so I bought 4x1gb modules of OCZ SLI 8500. These are amazing, they do 1066mhz on 2.02v (actual), and are currently running 1155mhz with only 2.16v (actual). I've had them for 6 months now, no problems so far.
Iannis, for 2x1gb o recomend the Transcend AxeRam 1200+. For 2x2GB I recomend the GSkill 8500 PK or the 8800 PI.
gurusan, very nice too men ;)
I won't OC my CPU furder because the voltage needed doesn't seems to compensate. I remember that this is my 24/7 daily config ;)

Hi
It might sound stupid but why does everyone use CPU Ratio Setting: 8.
When default is 9 is it beter to have a higher fsb  as myn will do 3.6@9 so thats what i thought was best
ps sorry for Noob question :)
cheers nick
a higher fsb will net a small overall performance increase, also around that fsb i have better ram divider options
ok thanks just wonderd why :)
hello i'am new here (sorry if my english is bad)
i have the P5Q Deluxe with E2180 and memory patriot Viper PC9600
i have a problem with FSB no pass 400
the Northbrige 1.5 and not boot and clear CMOS
This is my best results:
http://img.godlike.cl/images/39265.jpg
help me
thanks and sorry...
Still getting issues, not sure whats going on.
I went back to the basics.
E8400, P5Q Pro. 9 X 333 defaults works fine. I raised FSB to 400 and dropped multiplier to 7.
Ram is DDR2800 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145184
I get errors in Test 5 of Memtest. Only test 5. Ive tried changing between slots 1/3 and 2/4. RAM is rated for 1.9v and Im running at 2.0. All settings are according to RAM specs.
Does this look like a bad stick of RAM or should I keep tossing more voltage at it? I'm going to try the 0901 Bios and see if it makes a difference.

I put in 2 sticks of some 4,4,4,12 2.1v Corsair and have made it through MEMTEST Test5 10 passes no errors. It definately seems like I have a bad stick of RAM. I have just filled out the RMA with Newegg and plan to buy some more.
Now that I am past the RAM issue, I will start the real overclocking ;)
In first case i wanna say hello to everybody cause this is my very first post in XtremeSystems, i've been reading alot from tons of threads but i didn't dare to write till now, i'm still too noob at overclocking, just started this february. I recently acquired an ASUS P5Q Pro after the death of a DFI DK X38-T2R (bad bios flash :\) ... and i paired it with an E8400 (batch Q810A055) that had been burn-in after several weeks of benchmark and Priming for a 24/7 stable setup. After purchasing it i wanted to test if the degradation myth (not the OC burn-in process) has happened and i obtained a pretty good results. According to the last version of RealTemp and CoreTemp my vid is 1.2250, here are some shots achieving "partial" stability though:

Besides that, i'm having problems with 333Mhz and 400Mhz strap's as jVidia says since 0703 BIOS, i tried several methods as the tRFC to 55, PL to 10 and some voltages up but no luck at all, same with 500x8 who crashes within seconds at Prime Blend. Any advices to hit higher RAM speeds or should i stay with this last stable setup till a new official release of BIOS?
Sorry for this long long post, i promise the following ones won't be that long ... i just wanted to be 100% sure of what i was doing before posting it as a "stable" configuration, hope to be helpful to someone too.
Best regards to everybody :)
Did you tried strap 266 ?
And change the following settings:
PCI-E Frequency: 101
AI Clock Twister: Lighter
NB Voltage: 1.26
Load Line Calibration: Enabled
CPU Spread Spectrum: Disabled
PCIE Spread Spectrum: Disabled
CPU Clock Skew : Normal
NB Clock Skew : Normal
Advance CPU Settings: All Disabled
Is bios 0803 better then the one I have?
Yes jVIDIA, the 266Mhz strap is the one i'm using, the only "stable" with high FSB's ... to achieve 500x8 with 1200Mhz on the memory i tried the 333Mhz strap upping the voltages of the NB, PLL and FSB as well as the RAM but didn't worked, also tried with the clock skew's but nothing ... and when i try the 400Mhz strap with my 445x9 to achieve 1186Mhz on memory also fails, i'll give a try disabling all the Advance CPU Settings as you say and i'll check if helps.
Thank you!
ps: I was the one having problems trying to update the BIOS from 0708 to 0901 on the P5Q Pro (from Ezflash and AFUDOS too, even with flags) ... but i finally solved it using an old version of AFUDOS, the 2.29 instead of the 2.36 the ASUS DVD includes, can be found here: http://www.fileden.com/files/2006/8/...FUDOS229ES.zip ... i placed it into an USB stick formatted as a Win98 boot diskette and flashed using: AFUDOS.EXE /iROMFILE.ROM /pbnc /n

2. Patch for certain Quad-core CPU unstable issue.

LOL I was just going to post the same thing .... look @ Everest Sensor page :
http://img504.imageshack.us/img504/8278/tempgd1.jpg @ bios 0803
WTF !? It must be a bug ! How can the CPU be less that the cores ? Isn't the CPU temp a calculated temp ?
Yep... But the cores are always higher...
But this is all wrong ...
:hammer:
On 0901 for the P5Q Pro the CPU readout temperature is finally working well, after several hours of 100% load (F@H SMP) is saying 41-42ºC (at BIOS, HWMonitor and Everest) on the settings i have below what corresponds apparently to the TjMax of 85ºC that i set on RealTemp which is saying 41-43ºC/36-38ºC, at idle happens the same, the correlation is nearly perfect and it's closer to 85ºC than 95ºC at TjMax (apparently)
http://img295.imageshack.us/img295/1...7082002jt9.jpg
Look my temps
Everest was reading fine the temps..
10 minutes ago everything was normal, now the temperatures were crazzy!
i'm on 0803 bios
I think I'm gonna upgrade to 0901 ...
This is nasty stuff ...
Regards
0803 is wrong.
So wrong that the Everest doesn't show the MB temp :D
On AiSuite I have 104ºC on CPU and 196ºC on the System ! LOL
My older 6400-C4 is doing good had a couple of issues with no booting after doing some swapping with my CM2X2048-8500C5D.
went to 1 stick and stock 400FSB to get rebooted then upped my settings after I rebooted to windows once under the slower settings.
Memtest86+ the Dominator failed test 5 even at stock 1066 speeds
the older C4 is cooking along at 440 4-4-4-12 and I have tested as high as 470+ 5-5-5-16 I haven't pushed the ram to failure due to my limits on the wolfe which hits a wall at 4ghz.
Hey guys, got 3 questions, sorry for the newbieness:
1. Can someone tell me which is the correct fsb strap setting for 1:1?
On auto the dram freq option is ddr2-801. On 400mhz fsbstrap it is ddr2-800.
2. I want to stay at 3.6 1:1, what should I do next? Lower performance level to 8 and run memtest and/or prime?
3. Pci-e freq: 101 or 100? Not really sure anymore.

Well then I guess I will wait until they come out with a good one then "bios".
After about 25 different settings I've reached several conclusions. Here's some of my progression:
450fsb x8 --> 3.6 (Stable)
450fsb x 8.5 --> 3.83 (Stable)
430fsb x 9.0 --> 3.87
435fsb x 9.0 --> 3.92 (I ran it for 5 min in Prime95)
So basically I messed around with having the multipliers higher and lower to get different FSB's. Then after some research I set it to 8x and tried to see how high I could get my FSB.
478fsb x 8.0 --> 3.82 (not so stable if I remember)
470fsb x 8.0 --> 3.760 (1/2 hour in Prime95?) --ram @ 1:1 but with CL4-12.
Then after reading some posts I tried for 4Ghz to look like an e-thug. I raised the vCore to 1.36250 for the following
445fsb x 9 --> 4GHZ w00t (but it would only run 1/2 hour stable in Prime95)
I didn't like the combos I was getting with the ram, I didn't like them so low with a 1:1 ratio and the 5:4 ratio seemed to high. I had the ram running at 1130mhz at one time and only loosened it to CL5 with an 18 vs. a 15 at the end. Regardless, I switched back to focusing in on a 8.5 multiplier and I since tested the following
465 x 8.5 --> 3.95 (Ran for ~3 hours in Prime95)
NOW I'm currently dropping it down a bit and honing in on my final setup. I've currently been rocking steady in Prim95 for 1.5 hours with this
460 x 8.5 --> 3.91Ghz
Here's the rest of my setting that I really haven't changed much.

Then I know I have Load Line Enabled & all the rest diabled
I need to check these out, but if this runs steady I'm going to lower the vCore a bit to find the sweet spot. I know it's been the other way around for most of the time, but I've been jumping all over the place, but now I know that I want it at 8.5 with ~460FSB then I'm going to push the ram to 4:5 to get just under 1100mhz. I'll drop the last timing to 18 and hopefully tighten it to 15. This setup isn't too aggressive and seems to be the way to go. I'll double check the settings soon as I'm ending prime95 and playing some AoC and WC3.
Already I crashed in AoC so I'm assuming it's hardware and dropping down to the following and re-building up running for a night in prime95.

Any suggestions on my thoughts or tests. I've really been changing it up but I think 8.5 with a 4:5 ratio will give me the best results. I just want ~ 3.8-3.9Ghz with the ram pushed a bit further than stock.
