Weird, Gigabyte DIRECTLY sent me the bios file in response to a technical support query, they provided the link and stated to resolve my issue "X-Fi" to use the lastest available bios, F5.
how did you contact them? Is there a support e-mail addy?
I posted the file on my server so you can get it
Here
MD5: 4A9C5D475BCD77F3FA9C3CB7F14BF1E5
And it is also over at http://www.bigappledirect.com/965pdq6.f5
This is for the Final that got taken down so not sure if it is the absolute final or not but is still worth a look .
no real difference between this and the F5d.. except "system voltage control" which is all the voltage controls either set to auto or manual
what the best bios for DS4 anyway?
damn it i want to get my hands on a DQ6
if not to have my gskills actually run the way they do on every other baord.
then i jsut want to see how ugly this baord really is when strapping an ES chip into it, actually using BOTH eps 12v+ plugs and using a GOOD psu....
how many of you people with the DQ6 are NOT using all 8 pins of the EPS 12v+ connector.... its both 4 pin plugs and they need to be used.
YET another problem has been introduced by the new F5 bios...i sent this to GB tech support:
I would like to report some serious problems with the latest F5 bios which was given to me direct by Gigabyte tech support:
http://ggts.gigabyte.com.tw/FileList/393610/965pdq6.f5
This bios release is very flawed, one crucial issue is *THIS* bios file has a major bug in that auto fan speed control is no longer functional.
I have two (2) Evercool 92mm PWM fans connected to my motherboard 4-pin fan headers which are also PWM capable. My fans are Intel certified for PWM connection/usage.
One fan was connected to the main "CPU_FAN" 4pin header, the other was connected to the "SYS_FAN" 4pin header.
Using ALL bios releases (including beta) for the DQ6 my fans would run under 1000RPM when i had the fan speed control option in bios set to "Auto".
Under "PC Health" section in bios i have "Fan Speed Control Method" set to "Auto", i also have "Fan Speed Control Mode" set to "Auto". With both options set to auto BOTH fans would be controlled by bios, and BOTH fans would run under 1000RPM.
Under "Current CPU Fan Speed" and "Current System Fan Speed" BOTH fans would disply the speed of the fans under 1000RPM.
As such my system is quiet as the fans are making less noise due to the lower RPM of said fans. Again let me say *ALL* bios i have used thus far have controlled BOTH the CPU_FAN and the SYS_FAN.
With bios version F5 this no longer happens!!..only the CPU_FAN is being controlled, the SYS_FAN is no longer controlled by bios and runs at FULL speed, 2400RPM...which in turns makes alot of noise.
Let me stress once again...this problem has ONLY been introduced since bios version F5, thus there is something within the bios that needs to be fixed quickly, please report this problem directly to the Gigabyte team resposible for writing bios files for the DQ6 motherboard and have them issue a fix quickly.
Also note....my own highest FSB has gone DOWN!...stable 440FSB, was 445FSB with F5d beta. I had F5 at 450 but it was unstable.
Not happy thus far with F5, hope this is NOT official..nothing new in bios either, they have not updated the Intel ICH8R bios nor the JMicron...no new bios options.
All they did was move things around and put voltage options in to a new sub menu...and the VDIMM voltage colors are gone. F5d had the VDIMM voltage split into three colors depending on voltage...this is gone.
Not sure why they put the voltages into a new sub menu, and the colors for the DDR2 voltage is gone.Quote:

Lestat..stop slamming the DQ6, it's a great board. The problem like with alot of mobos is the BIOS...nothing more.
I have the 8pin 12V in use, all pins connected using an OCZ GameXtreme.

Can you post your settings to get into 450 FSB.
I upgraded to the F5 Unofficial and it seems to have fixed my continues reboot cycle after CMOS battery pull out reset. it would boot normally after 20 resets but now it boots just fine. im still on my 400 FSB and it is stable. seems like this bios is solid. I have no fan in the sys fan plug so that is not a problem for me and my timings are set manually for the memory so there is no problem. my temps went down but that could just be the Arctic Silver setting in.

I for one use a ThermalTake ToughPower 750W PSU, and am yet to to have a single issue with my DQ6. I can Prime for 12+ hours at 3.7Ghz and can boot and game all day etc at 3.8GHz with my E6600 at 1.525vcore. This is the least problematic setup I've ever used.
izit ok for my mobo ds4 to flash from f2 to f5? coz i skip f3 bios.and izit better to flash it by using bios menu..rather just updating thru bios utility under windows?
yes it is romeo, and lestat I'm using an enermax 620W and I deliberately chose this board because of the 8 pin connector for increased voltage stability :S...
What settings do you have your board on?Quote:

Offical F5 DQ6 is up.
Well I ran WinMD5 on The F5 Bios that was released before and got taken off and the new one that got rereleased and the sum is the same so it is in fact the same file.so no need to reflash the bios.
Official F6 for DS3 is up as well - http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/M...me=GA-965P-DS3

This is the reply I got from Team Xtreem tech support when I queried about RMA, as my ram wont stay stable above about ddr 650. Even though its rated ddr2-800 4 4 4 10
So what do you guys think of that reply? Everyone agree outr boards are sh1tty?!!Quote:
this is OPB, I don't think you get the point how to get it stable
DS3 basically is the wrost board I don't even wanna take a look
it got tons of problem, I don't think our 800 4-4-41- is that bad.
I mean it's up to you if you wanna rma or not , try get a good PSU, from your rig,
I don't think you WILL make any conroe system work stable
My honestly and sincerely suggestion here, I just don't wanna piss you off and don't wanna waster your time,
get real, Gigabyte 's ds3, dq6 are all :banana::banana::banana:ty board without any value. period.
I personally think its a little premature considering people over on their forums are having lots of problems with that particular ram, on a range of mobo's from different manufacturers.
fingers crossed they have fixed the coldboot "bug" , if anyone tried it yet please give info :D
lmao what great support they have :slap:Quote:

DS3 has been one of the best OCing experiences for me. :toast: First time I've had a board that "downclocks" itself properly when in trouble.
Weird problems u have with F5 , i can select timings like 4-3-3-9 and boot
6x500 . Made a short vid about booting 6x500 save it, sorry about guality, but anyway no problems here.

tried the F6 bios on my ds3, now i cant boot at 450. F3 is still the best for me.
I'm thinking about going back to an old BIOS as well. Using My DS3 still has trouble seeing my 150GB Raptor on a cold boot.Quote:

463 x 8 is 90%
i say 90% since i can bench and crunch all day long but 3dmark hardlocks my system. and i dont know why.
the official retail F6 sucks for me. now 463 x 8 is not stable.
Pi hard locks my system.
one thing i just realised is tha i have my 12v 3.3v and 5v rails on my psu overvolted so i will lower them to normal and see what happens.
if they fixed the overvolting ram then having the rails overvolted has a direct increase on vcore and vdimm. so it may be locking since its trying to lower the voltage and it cant since my rails are jacked up higher then normal.
Richard - that is odd about the fan controllers. Ever since I got my DQ6 board (with the F2 BIOS), I could never control the system fan. It was always at maximum! Not even Speedfan can adjust it.
I can ONLY auto control the CPU_FAN header.
But wait - where is the SYS_FAN header? Perhaps I'm thinking of the PWR_FAN header? What is the name of the fan header that is right next to the DIMMs, at the top (when in a tower configuration) of the board? Hmmm....
Richard, can you still control both fans with SpeedFan?
Sorry, I meant if I clock something too high in the BIOS and it doesn't take...instead of pulling out the GPU to reset the cmos jumper/get to the battery, it'll just go back to 266. Worst case...I have to hold down Insert.Quote:

F5 for my DS4 is crappy too. F5 refuses to get stable at 4-4-4-12 for my OCZ's while F3 works splendidly on the same timings. I did revert back to F3 from F5. Dang! I had high expectations with the F5 and now I am very disappointed with it.

Thanks for the geographical advice, WarpCore. :)
I've got a ton of wires coming from the PSU down near the system fan header (Antec P180 case) - no wonder I didn't see it. Now I need to rearrange my case fan power cables - they're all attached to my CPU fan header, controlled by Speedfan!
But - I think I'll avoid F5 Final. I have F5d now and I hope I can still control the system fan speed.
System info:
E6600 cooled by Scythe Mine with Silverstone high cfm fan
Gigabyte GA-965P-S3 (F5 bios)
2x1gb OCZ PC8000 (4-3-3-12)
OCZ GamerXtreme 700w PSU
Powercolor x800gto2 flashed to 850 xt pe for 16 pipes (405/530)
etc.
One thing I have found on this board in comparison to my P5W DH that I fried, is that it's really finicky with Windows. Fresh install is a must otherwise 3d just bugs out.
Also, I can boot 8x475 and 9x415 with this new bios. I found out the board is just so tricky when it comes to ram it'll let it work incorrectly and it'll not let it work properly at times.
Before this bios my pc8000 wouldn't even post, now it does. My 3dmark score at 9x400 with p5wdh was 38,265 and now with 9x400 on the 965p-s3 i'm scoring 39,452. With any previous bios on the s3 3dmark would just lock up for me. When I finally did get it to run it scored 34,xxx .
Ram is everything with this board. These gigabyte boards are rockets when configured correctly but just 1 timing off will set them in a tailspin. Eventually they'll get them figured out and they will be the best available imho.
The only timings I set in bios are the first 3 and rest are auto.
Any questions just ask, I've pretty much got the bugs and settings figured out now and I'm sure I can diagnose and resolve issues with these boards when asked.
is your ram D9 based Radelon ? and if so what timings are you using in the bios ? 4-3-3-12 for what ram speed ? 800 ? or higher ?
and your comments here is another reason why i have said and continue to say pound for pound this is the best conroe board to have why spend 100 to 150 more when you can get the same overclocking with this board. or almost the same. sure its picky about ram and psu but buy good stuff and its fine.
and for those thinking of going with the new ABIT look at your clocks here vs what they are gettings.
i have yet to see the new abit get any better clocks than what i am getting at a 9x multi. it does boot at a slightly higher clock but not enough to warranty another 80 bucks. and losing pci slots.
but then again. it is a good board. so.. its all about what you want and how much you wanna spend i guess.
I will not upgrade my BIOS as I'm very happy with where I am at :)
yeah i havent gained anything since F4 either.
infact i think F3 is the same for me also..
i'll have to do some testing.
Ever since I installed the F5 on my DQ6 I was able to lower my vcore to 1.3 everything else is on normal and my mem is +0.1 (1.9) and it seems stable so far ill make it run for 12+ hours and then update to see if it is still running. Can everyone run on voiltage this low or is it just me? my previous temp was 57 with my ac on it the room now the AC is off so it is about 10 degrees warmer in the room and my cpu is running 3 degrees cooler. This is soo cool. I think my OC adventure is done and im going to stick with this bios and settings :toast:
http://justoverclockit.com/pics/Voltage.jpg
1.3v is stock voltage for ALLLLL conroes.
this isnt anything special its just that recently gigabyte finally got of their arses and fixed it.
The X-FI issue is back on the DQ6 with F5 bios...has not been fixed.
1.325 is stock :) 1.3 is a tad lower but try going even lower.. I have mine at 1.264 :) some reports have e6600's @ 3GHz on 1.125 volts... now that is a cool running chip :)
id love to see a 6600 at 3ghz at that low.. id have to see it with my own eyes.
1.3v is intel spec stock voltage. period they use 1.3v for defualt until you start raising the fsb then it lifts the vcore.
and they didnt use to run 1.3v they used to run 1.2375 until F4 when they fixed it. (now im talking DS3 not DQ6)
drop it to default and see how low you can go on the voltage. mine hold nice and steady at 2.4ghz @ 0.975v thats before droop but at such a low voltage there is almost no droop. the higher the vcore thats used the more droop the DS3 has.
also try measuring vcore on your motherboard.... see what it really is
There isn't anything as the same stock voltage for all intel conroe and allendale CPUs. Some of them have the default vcore of 1.325V and some 1.3V. So far I've seen just 2 CPUs that would have the default vcore of 1.3V and more with 1.325V.Quote:

On the P5W DH the ram kicks tail, so there's still some work to do.

i believe the simple answer is that the chipset is changing its timings to a looser timing to accomodate for the tighter higher clocking we are doing and in the end it just slows you down.
4-4-4 is still the best for the board that i have seen.
hold the voltage for cpu on 1.325 and dont worry.Quote:

Yes but OCing with undervolting is nice, all the benifits of an OC with much lower temps!
IMO the tighter timings aren't entirely stable, that why the score is lower, the memory may be throwing out errors, slowing it down.Quote:

WTF has Gigabyte been doing with these BIOSs?
Strange , i also got a raptor and XFI and no problems here , F3,F4 gives me max 355 fsb , F5 , F6 410 fsb.
I'm at 451 FSB. 410 won't cut it with an E6300.Quote:

nothing i do will allow my HZ's to run over 950mhz stable not even 5-5-5-15
98% of the time my system wont even boot with 950+ 5-5-5
let me know what you find out... i may switch back to F3 and see what happens.
for now though i have updated my sig with my new 24/7 clocks...
422x9 1.52v(bios) windows is reporting 1.48v.. and 1.43 or less w/ droop.
ive mentioned before but ill mention it again.. with the DS3 and most boards.. the lower the voltage the less droop the higher the voltage the more droop.
i can run my cpu at stock 2.4ghz @ 0.975v with zero droop. but start raising the voltage and droop increases but this is normal as the PWM cant handle the load of the higher voltages.
this is when a DQ6 would come in handy,
So i've given up on the DQ6 until the bios matures more. I have all bios settings set to Auto and i enabled the Intel QST option, now both my fans are being controlled by bios and running slower.
Interesting...under PC health with Intel QST enabled the temps for GMCH and ICH are displayed. Wish don't appear if you disable Intel QST.
What's even more strange is that my VDIMM voltage is set to "Normal" which should mean it's 1.8V...right?
Yet my G.SKILL HZ 2GB kit is booting and working, at 1.8V?....what the hell?
Don't forget to download the driver to enable QST:
http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scri...ional&lang=eng
rich the gskill hz's always boot fine at 1.8v..
if your done messing with the DQ6 for now send it to me let me break it in for you properly. i'll make her WANT to overclock.
time to ditch that cpu rich and get a week 28 or newer
I've decided to buy an E6700, i'm seeing can i get a sweet deal on one somewhere, where can you get an OEM chip?
Hey guys...let's keep this thread alive!

I agree with lestat, but also I don't think its worth it unless you increase your cooling...
increased cooling doesnt make any difference just cuz its a 6800
its still the same voltage to run it.. its a matter of how much voltage for stock.
but you are correct for high clocks 24/7 air just dont cut it.

Come on Gigabyte, this one has to be special...
With al the biosses ( f3,f4,f5,f6 ) my pc wont boot if I set vcore more then 1.58v , oh and why jumps Gigabyte from 1.6v directly to 1.8v vcore ? why cant we select 1.625/1.650 enz... ?
Need new BIOS !!
if you need more Cranox then hats off to you bud,, if you got the balls to do more.. then seriously.. wow.
but look around fellas,, look at some reports from people who have done 1.6 and higher and their chips are dieing.
personally.. and this is just me if you need 1.6v to get this chip anywhere then your just gunna kill the chip. i know i see people doing it but the heat generated by these chips at that voltage is just insane. and i personally dont recommend people do it.
if you need that much then your hitting the wall in the cpu where your treading on dangerous ground... i wouldnt be doing it. the cpu cant go any further for a reason .. and smashing it with that many volts.. isnt the smartest thing to do.. unless of course your super cooling it.
and i to have the no booting thing above 1.58v but that doesnt bother me i have no intensions of going more than 1.55v
even with water she hits 70c at that voltage.
not to mention the heat and stress put on the pwm area.
the higher vcore the hotter the pwm area gets and even at 1.52v i have used a probe and also my Infrared Temp gun,, and i have seen the PWM get to some insane temps. alot hotter than you might think.
I'm still getting the occassional "Disk boot failure" with the latest BIOS (F6 final). It's so random that I have no idea how to root cause it. Usually a CTRL+ALT+DEL will get it to work again... I'm using the Gigabyte SATA connections on the mobo btw.
I can't believe some of these guys running 70C idle. I'm only @ 3300, but my load stays under 50C. IMO a 1.17G OC ain't a bad thing to live with. Especially when it can happen without any extra voltage.
Same here, quite content at 3.2 (8*400). Wouldn't mind 3.4-3.6 as long as I don't start getting constant reboots and the like again. But I admit I am fearful at the moment after finally getting this board back from rma :para:
I have a gigabyte DQ6 and E6400, update to f5 bios but, in windows cpuz 1.36 show F2...
When the computer boot, show f5... but in windows only show f2
Any tips?
I cannot exceed fsb 400>:(
