Wonder why your memory load is only 326 MB while you have 2GB in total.. not sure if Orthos defaults that way. I'd always ensure my dual prime95 to utilize about 90% of physical memory (leaving 10% unused to avoid HDD context switching) so that most of the memory is exercised along with the CPU being tortured. :cool:

True to get CCBBE about a couple of months back from the SoCal warehouse, but not recently. More reports are showing that SoCal warehouse started to ship LCB9E stepping since beginning of this year... I hope this is only some transient supplies.

no, thats not core temp. your right, add 10c to my temps. around 55c is the hottest ive seen

I don't think so...they passed 70 loops of Test 5 last night and they are at stock settings...I guess I'll play around a bit

Ok I just ran 7 loops of Memtest while I was out and no problems...
So thats 12 hours dual prime, 70 loops of Test 5 and 7 full loops of memtest...

Got exactly the same problem as you, Magnj. Opteron 165 LCB9E 0646RPMW

I'm getting the same kind of random lockups when using the internet, or playing some relatively low powered games. This is even when just clocked at 2350mhz (261fsbx9) @ stock volts.
Orthos runs fine for hours, Vista memory checking completes without errors.
I've set the ram timings to exactly how they are at stock cpu speed. The divider is set so ram runs at 191mhz. But also tried at 2400mhz with ram at 200mhz, same problem.

Can't work out whats the problem, if it runs fine in orthos without overheating, and mem tests are fine. Seeing if i can make it lockup on stock speeds, so i can send it back...

are u using firefox2.0? i´ve got those crashes too...
with my old 165 ccb1e0605xpmw@2,8ghz
and now with my new 165 ccbbe0616xpmw@3ghz (both 8hrs prime stable)
i think it´s a problem with the new version of firefox. never had a previous version of firefox crashing, but this new 2.0 really sucks..

Think I sorted it out. I was on Bigtoes most recent modded BIOS...decided to get the latest official BIOS and that seemed to do the trick. So I'm stable at stock speeds and RAM so I'll go from here...

EDIT: Ok ots fine and dandy on Auto Settings...but other than that I'm getting windows issues :(

hi guz, just wondering anyone here having problem with opty 165 running @ stock on eXpert mobo?

Wat problem I get is OS hard lockup (freeze) or even shut down by itself when running ORTHOS priority 9. But it seems fine when using prority 1.

CPU is running at stock, and I tested my current ram setting and memtest 12 PASS without any problem.

I start thinking if my nf4 chipset overheat?? I replaced the DFI HS with thermalright HS-05 SLI.

is the chipset temp from ITE accurate?? it reports 32-35 degree of chipset temp .

Some more scores...final passed 3.2ghz..but this was reallly pusing the chip to the limit on air coling and 23c indoor temp(Big Typhoon with orginal fan,23c indoor temp), This is one and only time i will use 1.58v with indoor temp

CoreTemp is what I was asking - I've noticed with my opterons that they're stable up to ~60'C core temp. I can OC them as far as my cooling only, that's why I'm happy to get watercooling parts :D

When your Windows shut down, do you see BSOD (Blue Screen of Death)? If so, your dual-core system could use some patches. I'd recommend you to re-install Windows from fresh and follow these instructions.

The DFI nF4 chipset fan is fine and it's ok for the chipset to operate around 50 - 60C. You can control the temps by setting when the chipset fan will kick in in the BIOS menu. FWIW, many folks set it around 50 - 55C.

No.. there is no BSOD. The pc just either froze or competely power off by itself when running ORTHOS in priority 9. It seems no problem when using priority 1.

My WinXP was just re-installed with dual core hotfix and dual core driver.

By the way, what PWMIC readlly mean? and where is it on mobo??

So I'm on 406 BIOS, having all sorts of stability issues at anything other than Optimized defaults. But my first Question is why is the BIOS not showing more than 3.2V available as DRAM Voltage when I have the 3.3v Jumper Trick ?

I see. You might want to play around with DRAM settings and maybe try a different BIOS. I have had good luck with the latest Merlin BIOS, which can be downloaded with TMod's BIOS CD v9.0.

PWMIC is the Pulse-Width Modulation Integrated Circuit that regulates your Vcore and Vdimm. DFI has an excellent execution at this which makes OCing stable and easy. The normal T range on these chips should be around 40-50C.

Magnj: I personally don't like Expert's 406 BIOS. If yours is an Expert I'd recommend Merlin instead. If you use an Ultra-D/SLI-DR then I'd recommend OCZ Tony/BigToe's 406-BTA BIOS which can be had from TMod's BIOS CD link above. I've found that 406-BTA has better tolerance with memory.

But the wired thing is my ram did pass the memtest for 12 PASS full loops! So it is very unlike the ram fault.

Also any detail about the Merlin BIOS? is it base on the official 406 BIOS?

Memtest is no absolute guarantee for windows stability, its only an absolute guarantee for instability if it doesnt pass. Remember that.

i agree with v0dka.My ram was stable to memtest but couldn't pass s&m memory tests in windows at tight timmings and got crashes
